Abstract

Solution-mined salt cavities are being used for storage of liquid petroleum gas, natural gas, and other hydrocarbons; waste disposal or storage; storage of radioactive wastes; and as a surge vessel for air compressed by an electric utility during off-peak hours. Examples of each use are given. Other contemplated uses of salt cavities are noted.
