Abstract
Provide respiratory protection and a clean work environment for stationary or semimobile workers at minerals processing plants. Approach An Overhead Air Supply Island (OASIS) was developed which filters, conditions, and evenly disperses an envelope of clean air over a worker's head, thereby insuring reduced dust levels and a clean work environment. How It Works The concept for the OASIS derives from an earlier Bureau development of a canopy air curtain for continuous mining machines (see Technology News #21). In this application, the benefits of a reliable, self-contained, self-cleaning industrial-duty air filtration and distribution system are extended to the minerals processing field. The OASIS draws dust-laden room air into a filtration system, removing the dust and delivering clean air to a specific 16-square-foot area. It consists of: ? a self-cleaning primary filter ? a heater (cooling coil optional) ? an airflow distributor and secondary filter (combined)
