Abstract
The morning fog rolled off the Pacific Ocean as engineers surveyed a 27,000 sq ft (2,500 sq m) contaminated slope in Davenport, California. What lay before them represented one of the most challenging environmental remediation projects in recent memory - a steep hillside poisoned by decades of cement production, threatening to leach toxic materials into one of the state's most pristine coastal environments. This case study from a former Cemex cement plant site demonstrates how innovative drilling and soil stabilization techniques can address complex en- vironmental challenges while protecting
sensitive ecosystems. The project's success offers valuable insights for engi- neers, contractors and environmental professionals facing similar contam- inated site challenges.
