Abstract

The paper outlines the reasons for and research behind the recent decision to adopt oxygen decompression in the UK. Currently used measures of decompression illness are critically appraised. The paper describes the main precautions to be taken on site to manage the fire risk from the use of oxygen underground. A summary of the initial results from the use of oxygen decompression in the UK is presented.
