Abstract

Precipitation is a key process in the recovery of copper and cobalt. While there is a wealth of experience in operating precipitation steps, improving their performance remains challenging. Chemically, the reaction might be controlled by reaction kinetics, be limited by oxygen mass transfer, or be at equilibrium. In this paper, we examine these different operating regimes and demonstrate how they can be identified from plant operating data, process modelling, and pilot plant test work
