Abstract

Integrity assessment of drilled shafts can be determined by considering information from many points in the construction process. Observation of the drilling and shaft installation can provide additional confidence in the foundation element. Material testing is commonplace and provides another quality assurance. This information should be considered and is critical to the final evaluation of shaft integrity. Integrity testing is an in-situ method that evaluates the shaft as constructed. Several testing methods, each with its own strengths and limitations, are available to evaluate the integrity of a shaft. This article discusses three types of tests, thermal integrity profiling, low-strain integrity testing and high-strain dynamic testing, and their results from drilled shafts installed to support two county road projects.
