Abstract
To gather additional field data from the western United States,
researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health (NIOSH) installed an array of field instrumentation at
a longwall coal mine in Central Utah. The purpose of this field site
was to monitor ground movement and changes in pressure during
mining where conditions include massive, stiff overburden and
relatively deep cover. To accomplish this, field instrumentation
was installed in the two-entry gate road between the fifth and sixth
longwall panel in the current mining district.
