The memoir, presented at the North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers' general meeting held in Newcastle-upon-Tyne on 3rd June 1916, outlines the career of one of the Institute's oldest members and past-president 1896-1898, including the improvements he introduced at Harton, St. Hilda and Boldon collieries and his activities with the Institute and the Durham Coal Owners' Association
