Abstract

This report presents a survey of published novel coal cutting (mining) concepts and a brief discussion of each one. A preliminary evaluation follows which identifies promising concepts, emphasizing reduced dust generation and economic production potentials. The promising concepts are then studied more deeply and evaluated in more detail with recommendations given for further development action. The concepts recommended for further work include: Roan and Pillar Mining: Deep Cutting Continuous Miner Linear Cutting Rotary Head Miner Longwall Mining: Oscillating Continuous Water Jet Miner Deep Cutting Shearer
