Abstract

Effective control of respirable dust is one of the most serious problems associated with longwall mining in the United States. This report describes the development and laboratory testing of dust collectors for use on double drum shearers. Systems tested included: ? High Capacity Flooded Bed Scrubber ? Water Powered Extraction Cowls ? Water Powered Extraction Drums ? Water Powered spot Scrubbers. The systems were tested using tracer gas in a full-scale model of a longwall shearer face. This report provides a detailed description of the test facility, test methods, and system test results.
