Abstract

This report examines absenteeism and accidents. The first section provides some background information on absenteeism. The second section examines trends in absenteeism in underground coal mines over time. The third section examines causes of absenteeism. Models were examined. The first model looks at self-report reasons for absenteeism. The second examines demographic correlates of absenteeism. The third model includes demographic and attitudinal predictors of absenteeism. The next section of the report examines the effect of absenteeism on accidents. The last section contains strategies for reducing absenteeism.
