Abstract

The oxidation kinetics of A13Ti intermetallics have been studied at the temperature range of 850°C to 100O0C in pure dry oxygen. The oxygen diffusion rates were investigated using TGA method. Parabolic rate constants were calculated. The oxidation scales were analyzed using SEM, EDS and X-ray diffraction. A continuous A120, scales with a little TiO2(rutile) were formed on the intermetallic surface. The A13Ti intermetallic exhibited excellent oxidation resistance among the Ti-Al base intermetallics.
