Abstract
The CPT pile design method of the ‘Laboratoire des Ponts et Chaussées’ (LPC) uses the cone resistance
(qc) for the design of axially loaded piles. It was originally proposed in 1982 and was revised in 1993
and 2012. It has been widely used in France for several decades and is included in the current French
pile design code. The objective of this paper is to summarise the two first versions (1982 and 1993) of
the method and to detail the most recent one as described in the current French pile design code (AFNOR
2012).
