Human excellence in all areas of endeavour is acknowledged and recognized. Establishing role models and spreading the word on best practices helps broader audiences. For on-the-job safety, recognition awards are a component of successful programs. In Canada?s mining industry since 1941, the John T. Ryan Safety Trophies initiative has contributed to the sector?s improving record in this area. The much sought after and rich in history John T. Ryan trophies are recognized symbols of safety excellence in Canada. The effectiveness of the Ryan safety recognition program in Canada has led to its export to other mining countries seeking to improve their overall safety performance.
