Abstract

"For some time, the Australian and Chinese underground coal mining industries have evolvedindependently with minimal infl uence on each other. Despite the fact that in recent years severaltechnologies and solutions have become common to both industries, this trend has seeminglycontinued to the point that there are still many important diff erences in legislation and hazardmanagement systems in both countries. Austar Coal Mine as an Australian based and Chineseowned enterprise has a unique opportunity to benefi t from the technology and knowledge ofboth nations. This paper compares the Australian and Chinese approach towards spontaneouscombustion hazard management in order to exchange experience, identify possible improvements and learn from each other."
