Abstract

A TECHNIQUE has been developed for the microscopic study of the three-dimensional structure of the Pb-Sb alloys by the formation of a chemical replica in which the internal structure of the metal may be seen directly. In the replica process one of the phases present in the structure as-cast is converted into a translucent material, and the second phase remains virtually unaffected, permitting microscopic examination by transmitted light. Alloys of lead and antimony were made from the chemically pure metals, cast in a sooted and pre-
