Abstract
In Japan, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) commenced a research and development (R&D) project on seafloor massive sulphides (SMS) in Japan?s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the 2008 fiscal year. In this plan, the road map of Resource evaluation, environmental impact study, mining system technology and processing technology fields consisting of the first and second stage has been shown for the commercialization of SMS.
