Abstract
Traveling grate is a widely used process for iron ore pellet production; however, the thermal state of pellets in drying section is
still unclear. In this study, the temperature distribution of drying section was investigated using computational fluid dynamics
(CFD). Based on the calculated results of airflow velocity, space temperature distribution, and the temperature change of pellets,
it concluded that there is a coupling effect in drying section in traveling grate. The gas with higher temperature in DDD transfers
heat to UDD through the gap of the insulation board, and the temperature gradient of the pellet bed changed before reaching the
insulation board. The characteristics of pellet bed expected to appear in DDD was displayed in UDD in advance. Moreover, a
contrast experiment was conducted to verify the model.
