Abstract
This paper deals with the extension of Post Office telecommunications (telephone, data,  leased private lines etc.) network to mining  communities in remote areas of Australia. The  evolution of the "Spur Line" policy and its  application is referred to together with  comments on the engineering of telecommunication  Facilities.
