The increasing negative public opinion toward blasting has led to stricter regulations and increased costs. This paper outlines alternative methods of rock excavation and the safety regulations and certification required by blasting professionals. Most importantly, however, it showcases the benefits and accomplishments that controlled blasting bring to society, giving the public a better understanding of the necessity of blasting in modern society.
