Abstract

The Bureau of Mines is working on a long-term program to completely revolutionize mining-to create a mine-systems technology that integrates the need to recover minerals at low cost under safe and healthful working conditions while protecting the environment. Everyone should be brought into the planning process preceding each new mining development, the Interior Department urges, and Assistant Secretary Hollis M. Dole seems determined to push this kind of systems approach with everything he can move.
