Abstract

The Zarafshan/Newmont Joint Venture is currently operating in the Republic of Uzbekistan producing in excess of 400,000 oz. of gold per year from low grade oxide ore stockpiles adjacent to the Muruntau open pit gold mine located in the Kyzylkum desert of central Uzbekistan. Four stage crushing and screening produces a final product for heap leaching, Merrill-Crowe processing, and local refining for International market export. The Zarafshan/Newmont Joint Venture is the first major commercial project of its kind in the former Soviet Union to be successfully negotiated, engineered & constructed, and placed into continuous operation,
