A constante busca pelo aumento contínuo de produção e redução de paradas não programadas em transportadores, tem gerado demanda para equipamentos inteligentes dotados da capacidade de corrigir os constantes problemas de desalinhamento dos TCs. Os métodos hoje utilizados para corrigir este problema são prioritariamente passivos, o que impossibilita uma intervenção mais direta, precisa, automática e efetiva no posicionamento da correia. Esta publicação descreve o funcionamento e os resultados obtidos com a integração do sistema Alinhador Inteligente para Transportador de Correia AITC em um transportador de minério de ferro com vasto histórico de problemas de desalinhamento. Assim, a linha principal deste artigo mostra através de um exemplo prático os benefícios e ganhos mensurados com a aplicação do Alinhador Inteligente para Transportador de Correia.

A ArcelorMittal Tubarão vem trabalhando nos últimos dois anos na implantação de um sistema automatizado de julgamento da qualidade da superfície de bobinas laminadas a quente, juntamente com a ArcelorMittal Global R&D. Tal sistema é denominado CGSIS – Coil Grading Surface Inspection System – e tem a função de interpretar as ocorrências de defeitos superficiais, identificados por um sistema de inspeção automático através de câmeras CCD auxiliado por técnicas de visão artificial, à luz da necessidade requerida pela aplicação final do material. Todas as ações sugeridas pelo sistema são baseadas em regras de aplicação e nas informações obtidas do sistema de inspeção automático, requerendo para isso taxas de acerto de classificação de defeitos adequadas para uma boa tomada de decisão. Para tanto, várias melhorias foram necessárias, envolvendo questões de ambiente, desempenho, confiabilidade, disponibilidade e treinamento do sistema, para se obter com isso melhores níveis de detecção e acerto. Outras questões envolvidas em tal processo concernem às mudanças aplicadas a políticas já estabelecidas de julgamento e comunicação do novo sistema com os sistemas já existentes. Vários benefícios da implantação do projeto já estão sendo percebidos provenientes das etapas de preparação para a instalação e espera-se que após a operacionalização um ganho superior a R$320k entre redução de custo com pessoal, aproveitamento de material e redução de reclamações de clientes seja alcançado.

By applying high-end rolls with utmost performance and superior surface quality, hot strip mills can be further optimized. Operations in the mill have been also waiting for improved roll solutions that can minimize required roll changes which impact production efficiency. Limitations are usually due to the low performance and surface degradation of the rolls in the late finishing stands (F5 – F7). VICTURATM is the most recent developed grade for rolls utilized in the late finishing stand at Union Electric Åkers (UEÅ). These rolls have been tested and applied in mills all over the world. A significant improvement over the enhanced ICDP rolls has been observed. Hot strip mills are realizing improved operating efficiency and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) through the transition of their entire roll inventories to these break-through products.

Nos últimos anos, especialmente fibras naturais extraídos de plantas lignocelulósico, ganharam atenção devido ao seu desempenho como engenharia de reforço compósito polímero. Por exemplo, as fibras lignocelulósicas extraídos a partir das folhas da planta curauá (Ananas acutifolius) exibir um potencial de reforço devido à sua relativamente alta resistência. As fibras, entre 0 a 30% em volume de, foram misturados com resina de poliéster sob pressão num molde metálico, e curada à temperatura ambiente durante 24 horas. Este trabalho procura avaliar a resistência ao impacto deste tipo de matriz de epóxi fibra de reforço. A resistência ao impacto aumentado substancialmente com a quantidade relativa de fibras de curauá reforço do compósito. Este desempenho foi associada com a resistência imposta pelas fibras e o comportamento de propagação da fissura

No lingotamento contínuo de placas, rompimentos de veio pelo colamento e problemas de qualidade de superfície, como trincas longitudinais, são frequentemente relacionadas à lubrificação insuficiente no molde de lingotamento contínuo devido ao pó fluxante ou a prática de oscilação inadequados. Para detectar, com vistas a prevenir, este tipo de problema de processo, um método para avaliar em tempo real o coeficiente de atrito entre o veio e as placas do molde foi desenvolvido, utilizando-se a medição da força que atua nas placas laterais do molde e as forças de oscilação. Observou-se que o coeficiente de atrito do molde é um parâmetro confiável para auxiliar no desenvolvimento de pó fluxante, na otimização de parâmetros de oscilação e no monitoramento online do desempenho de pó fluxante.

The customer asked for a 5” angle roll pass design. For this angle, in a normal pass design, a 160mm billet is required. For the production of this billet would be necessary a new 160mm mold for the Continuous Casting Machine, which produces 150mm billets, increasing the complexity of the melt shop. The rolling mill is designed to produce angles up to 4", technical information recommended the replacement of a gearbox because this process would generate torque up to 15% above nominal. An innovative roll pass design was done using 150mm billet using the Aparecido-W Method that cause a higher spread in the first three passes, thus reaching the desired leg length. As this method is not used in any other known rolling mill, a FES (Finite Element Simulation) and FEM (Finite Element Modeling) was done by a Research & Development center which demonstrated that the design was viable. From July, 2018, three tests were done being produced around 700 t of good quality products without difficulty of set up. The rolling mill team carried out this project at a very low cost and in record time of five months. The average torque of the motors was 36%, without overload for the equipment.

Delivering liquid steel to a steel processing unit at right temperature is an important criterion for high production steel shops, but it is surprising how little attention has been paid in the past to manage this vital phase in the steelmaking process-the steel in transit. The ladle running costs, both directly and indirectly, contribute significantly to the cost of steelmaking and should be an area of concern to any high production steel plant. Here we are talking not only of refractory costs or preheating fuel costs, but also cost of extra heating in ladle furnace, additional process delays incurred in delivering steel at right temperature to downstream unit in case proper care is not exercised at upstream unit, and occasional costs of ladle breakout due to inability to judge the residual life of the ladle. This paper emphasizes the need of a comprehensive ladle management system, an aspect which has not been properly addressed in the operations of a steel plant, in improving the productivity of a steel melt shop. Starting with review of present status and the attempts at implementation of ladle tracking in steel melt shop automation system, it looks at components of an exhaustive Ladle Management System (LMS), and finally gives an idea of benefits that will accrue from implementation of such a system in a steel melt shop.

Automobile manufacturers are developing Electrified Vehicles with light steel body structure designs that reduce mass and therefore greenhouse gas emissions over the vehicle’s entire life cycle. This raises the demand for the production and development of Advanced and Ultra High-Strength Steels (AHSS / UHSS) and Electrical Steels with increased permeability and reduced core loss to improve energy conversion efficiency. To meet this requirements the steel market is tending towards new generations of AHSS with improved formability (3rd generation AHSS) and high-silicon steels with higher strength and thinner products. With this growing demand for advanced high-strength steels and electrical steels, producers are faced with a unique and interesting challenge in producing materials that strain or exceed the capabilities of existing mill equipment and automation designed to produce low- to medium-carbon sheet. While specialty steel producers have known for decades how to process special high-strength steels and thinner gauges, this equipment typically does not offer the yield and productivity desired by the market, necessitating innovation in re-engineering existing equipment to meet the market demands more economically than new construction. In the case of cold rolling, this can be supported through variable roll geometries, more effective roll-gap lubrication technologies, application of strip heaters (Warm Rolling) to reduce risk for edge crack propagation and strip breaks as well as continuous rolling managed by state-of-the-art automation technologies.

Atualmente uma das maiores preocupações da humanidade está relacionada as questões ambientais, o que tem motivado a pesquisa e o desenvolvimento de materiais provenientes de recursos renováveis e ambientalmente amigáveis. A despeito disso, este trabalho objetiva comparar a resistência de compósitos desenvolvidos com fibras naturais e, portanto, ambientalmente amigável e de compósitos desenvolvidos com fibras de vidro, que por sua vez apresentam impactos ambientais desde a fabricação até o descarte. Foram fabricados 13 corpos de provas para amostras contendo 0% de fibra, 30% de fibra de curauá e 30% de fibra de vidro na matriz epoxídica e ensaiado na máquina de tração. Os resultados obtidos apresentam valores bastante superiores para as amostras contendo fibras de vidro, contudo, ao relacionar a tensão do compósito com a respectiva densidade da fibra, foi possível constatar que os compósitos com fibras naturais chegam a apresentar resultados superiores aos compósitos fabricados com fibras de vidro. É possível concluir, portanto, que do ponto de vista da propriedade mecânica em questão é possível substituir as fibras de vidro por fibras de curauá.

Manganese, a toxic mineral, related to manganism may have high added value for the steel industry. The difficulty in obtaining manganese encourages the exploration of new secondary sources such as the lateritic nickel effluent. In Brazil, nickel reserves are predominantly lateritic, making the country a potential producer. For the tests, a synthetic solution was used which simulates the lateritic nickel effluent from leaching. The oxidative precipitation with ozone occurred at the oxygen flow rates: 0.5; 1.0 and 2.5L/min, at the original pH 1.5 at 21°C in a 500 mL bubble column reactor. O3 was produced in the benchtop generator feed by 99% oxygen. The ozonation time was determined by the oxidation potential1.55V. The ozonated solution was centrifuged and filtered. The filtrate and collected samples were characterized in ICP-OES. Optimization tests with ultracentrifuge were performed. The best precipitation reached 97% at 0.5L/min O2 at 6.07 ± 0.045mg/min of O3 dosage and resulted in a solution 10-15mg/L Mn+2, above 1mg/L, maximum value acceptable by Conama 2011, to be retreated before being discharged into the water body or being reused as a manganese source.

A busca por processos alternativos para o tratamento de efluentes industriais contendo metais tem aumentado devido às limitações geradas pela precipitação química, como a geração de lama e alto consumo de reagentes. Dentre os métodos avaliados, a eletrodiálise se destaca por possuir ampla aplicabilidade, não gerar mais resíduos e pela possibilidade de recuperação do metal. Entretanto, para garantir sua viabilidade, torna-se necessário estudar a estrutura das membranas empregadas a fim de avaliar o comportamento dos íons durante a passagem de um compartimento para outro e definir qual membrana deve ser empregada para cada tipo de separação. Em virtude do exposto, o presente trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar qualitativamente as membranas trocadoras de cátions HDX 100 e PC-SK por MEV/EDS para avaliar a presença dos elementos químicos em cada uma além de possíveis contaminações, e por FT-IR para determinar suas ligações químicas. De acordo com os resultados obtidos, ambas possuem carbono, oxigênio, enxofre e sódio em suas estruturas confirmando a presença de ácido sulfônico como grupo funcional. As ligações químicas entre os elementos determinados por MEV/EDS presentes nas membranas também foram identificadas por FT-IR. Conclui-se que os métodos empregados no presente trabalho são eficazes para caracterização das membranas avaliadas.

Avaliando o ciclo total do pedido através da medição dos tempos de Coleta (entrada do pedido à oferta de veículo), TPV – Tempo de Permanência do Veículo (carregamento) e Entrega (viagem), foi desenvolvida uma ferramenta para medição do Nível de Serviço da operação. Com a constante evolução do mercado e à elevada exigência dos clientes, isso se torna um diferencial, agregando valor aos produtos e fidelizando clientes. A ferramenta contribuiu para melhora significativa na tomada de decisões quanto às atividades críticas e sua consequente contribuição à satisfação dos clientes.

A dinâmica competitiva do mercado globalizado demanda informações confiáveis no dia-a-dia das empresas. Essas informações são preciosas, pois estabelecem vantagens que permitem que as empresas mantenham suas lideranças no mercado. Enquanto sistemas de Business Intelligence (BI) normalmente pertencem ao mundo da gestão e da estratégia, os conceitos da Indústria 4.0 trazem um conjunto de novas oportunidades para obtenção e extração de dados direto do chão-de-fábrica, permitindo com isso que decisões operacionais e táticas suportadas por esses dados sejam tomadas quase em tempo real. Uma solução BI desenvolvida em tecnologia OLAP (Online Analytical Processing) possui na etapa de ETL (Extract Transform Load) um de seus maiores gargalos. Este trabalho propõe uma ferramenta de processamento desenvolvida em Spark, denominada neste trabalho como BI 4.0, que resolve esse problema ao realizar o ETL de forma escalável, distribuída e com alta performance, trazendo ganhos significativos para o negócio.

The highly competitive business environment of the international metals industry is driving demand for more cost-effective operation of steel making facilities, rolling mills, and strip processing lines. Achieving stable operation is vital if the steel industry is to produce high-quality products constantly and productively. In recent years, advances in computer processing speeds, data acquisition rates, and data storage capacity have rapidly led to greater use of the new technologies of big data, analytics, the IoT, and AI by control system designers and process engineers, and the introduction of industrial applications. The “Smart Rolling Mill” solutions for hot strip mills have been developed by our group with the goal of achieving sophisticated, state of the art, and automated operation in steel rolling mills. The various solution engines improve process stability, increase the performance of mill equipment, and provide improved process control. These solution engines are based on extensive knowledge of the rolling process and the associated control systems. Two solution engines in particular are the diagnosis systems for rolling condition and for product quality that contribute to cost-effective operation and lower yield loss. This paper focuses on the diagnosis systems for rolling condition and for product quality in hot strip mills. Advanced information technologies using big data analytics and machine learning are applied to real-time data collected from the automation system that controls operation and the rolling process. We have developed diagnosis solutions for rolling condition and product quality utilizing predictive and clustering diagnosis. Predictive diagnosis prevents serious problems by detecting changes in the state of the plant or in the rolling condition. Clustering diagnosis classifies patterns of fluctuation in product quality trend charts, providing effective tuning guidance for improving product quality. This paper describes these applications with several examples.

Concentrados ?midos de minério de ferro podem se congelar durante o inverno e ficarem presos nos vagões de transporte, dificultando o descarregamento e a operação. Este problema vem sendo observado nas minas de Kryvyi Rih, Ucrânia e Mont-Wright, Canadá, onde o minério de ferro possui respectivamente 10,5% e 3,5% de umidade e, durante os invernos rigorosos, as temperaturas podem chegar a valores abaixo de -20°C. Nestes locais, uma grande quantidade de energia e tempo tem sido gasta para aquecer e descongelar os vagões. Este artigo mostra que polímeros superabsorventes, como o poliacrilato de sódio, podem evitar o congelamento e facilitar as operações de descarregamento e manuseio, além de possuír fácil aplicação, sendo eficientes quando aplicados apenas no fundo dos vagões, sem a necessidade de se misturar o polímero com o concentrado de minério de ferro.

Each year, approximately 400 million tons of blast furnace slag is produced worldwide with a tapping temperature of around 1,500°C. It is normally used as a substitute for cement clinker or as an aggregate material in road construction. Currently, the slag is granulated in wet-granulation plants using large volumes of water and to date, it has not been possible to utilise the remnant heat energy of the molten slag, which amounts to approximately 1.8 GJ of energy per ton. However, in an R&D project currently underway led by Primetals Technolgies and industrial partners, a new dry atomising technology is being investigated to use air to cool molten slag and recover the lost heat energy. The resultant pelletised slag fulfils the same criteria as wet-granulated slag for use in the cement industry. Phase 1 of the project has now been completed where a technical plant was set up at the University of Leoben in 2012. A series of dry-slag granulation campaigns were carried out using remelted blast furnace slag. The elevated offgas temperatures and the quality of the slag product as verified by the FEhS Building Material Institute have shown the process suitability as an industrial application and the decision was taken to escalate the project from large laboratory scale to a full size pilot plant. The phase 2 development of this plant is now underway and is scheduled for installation at the site of an industrial partner in early 2016 where full slag flow will be fed directly to the plant from Blast Furnace ‘slag runners. This paper will show the development path taken to date and the planned route to our goal in 2016 of being the first to industrialise the ‘game changing’ process of dry Slag Granulation with Heat Recovery from the slag.

Production of structural hot strip coils in yield strengths up to 700 MPa and higher is increasing worldwide. In addition to requiring higher strengths, structural designs require good formability, toughness and weldability. Toughness and formability come from optimization of ductility properties while weldability comes from lower carbon equivalent alloy designs. The key to the production of optimized cost effective hot strip produced structural coils is to create the correct balance of a proper alloy/processing design to create as fine and uniformly distributed cross sectional grain size as possible. In addition to the creation of the fine/uniformly distributed cross sectional grain size, the correct microstructure needs to be created. In the higher yield strength grades, not only does the grain size/distribution play a role but a proper understanding and control of microalloying precipitation kinetics is required. This paper will present various examples of hot strip alloy designs to produce cost effective hot strip structural coil in yield strengths up to 700 MPa with good ductility and weldability. In addition, steelmaking/casting parameters will be discussed to assure successful production. Optimized reheating, rolling and cooling parameters of these alloy designs will be introduced in an accompanying paper.

Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de identificar os motivos das trocas prematuras dos segmentos da máquina de lingotamento contínuo 1 da ArcelorMittal Tubarão e indicar propostas de engenharia para aumentar a sua confiabilidade e disponibilidade operacional . A metodologia utilizada foi a estratificação dos dados históricos, coletados no sistema informatizado de manutenção da empresa (SIM), para identificar, classificar e analisar as causas das trocas prematuras realizadas. A partir disso, baseado em conceitos de engenharia de manutenção, foram utilizados métodos de análises de falhas, como Diagrama de Pareto, Brainstorming, Diagrama de Ishikawa e Matriz Esforço x Impacto para elaboração de propostas de plano de ação modelo 5W1H visando à eliminação dos problemas.

In the process of wire rod production, the rolled wire products must be cooled from the red-hot state to the normal temperature state. How to cool the wire rod after rolling is one of the key links of product quality control in the whole wire rod production process. In this paper, combined with the closed-loop transformation project of controlled cooling temperature of Xuanhuan iron and steel group co., LTD., the closed-loop related controlled cooling equipment (including water cooler, valve table, etc.), nozzle layout and process layout of water tank, and closed-loop software control system of controlled cooling temperature of high-line are analyzed and designed. Closed-loop system design USES temperature of cooling water cooling and water cooling two temperature closed loop regulating circuit, through temperature feedback and feedforward to achieve the uniformity of temperature adjustment, in order to prevent occur due to temperature closed loop control function with the phenomenon of a steel before and after the temperature difference is bigger, system Settings have "absolute temperature regulation" and "relative temperature regulation" selection mode. The system has a self-learning mode, which can modify the temperature feed forward formula. In addition, this paper takes the hard wire 82B rod as the test object, and studies the process parameters and the comprehensive mechanical properties of the rod before and after the water cooling system reform. The research results show that the temperature closed loop system, can ensure the rolled piece temperature control precision of plus or minus 10℃, enhances the stability of wire rod cleaner performance. It can reduce water consumption by about 186m3/h and improve the utilization rate of cooling water.
