The preparation of the General Index, covering volumes of the TRANSACTIONS from XXXVI to LV, inclusive, which has been in preparation for some time, has been delayed on account of pressure of Government work at our printers. THE specimen of glazy iron used for analysis was highly characteristic in appearance. It was made at one of the furnaces of the Glendon Iron Works, working a light burden of ore with a highly silicious cinder. There are very few records of analyses of this variety of iron. I have been able to find but the two given by Bell, and I add these to my analysis for comparison.

The armed services, industry, and the professions are sizing themselves up man power-wise and are announcing that serious shortages are imminent or already in existence. A method to improve the quality of Magmont zinc concentrates to become acceptable feed to an electrolytic zinc refinery is described. The magnesia content of zinc concentrates produced was too high due to particle locking with sphalerite in coarse fractions. Regrinding the concentrates to a very fine particle size and then refloating the sphalerite was chosen to eliminate a sufficient amount of the magnesia to make the concentrates acceptable.

Rapidly increasing energy costs and more rigid customer quality requirements necessitate improved control of pelletizing processes. With the introduction of dedicated microprocessor-based controllers, sophisticated control strategies are now possible. An application of this technology at Carol Project has resulted in fuel savings, improved pellet quality, and standardization of operating procedures. This was accomplished with no production loss by using a "building block" approach to design and equipment selection.
