THERMAL conductivities of several samples of uranium and uranium alloys were determined using an apparatus previously described.' The value previously reported for uranium,' 0.035 cal per sec per cm per "C at 70°C, is in error due to the failure of a thermocouple during the determination on uranium. The defective thermocouple was detected after a reanalysis of the data obtained during the run and since has been replaced. Subsequently, runs on several samples of uranium show the thermal conductivity of uranium to be 0.069 cal per sec per cm per 'C at 70°C. The accuracy of the determinations was checked by measuring a sample of synthetic sapphire whose thermal conductivity was previously reported and found to be in agreement with other values."-" The values given in Table I are believed correct to % 3 pct or 0.003 cal per sec per cm per "C, whichever is larger. Of the 20 papers accepted as Preprints 1 was reprinted in the Transactions, 13 in Petroleum Development and Technology in 1927, 2 in Geophysical Prospecting, and 4 were in Preprint form on Dec. 31. Of the 35 papers printed for the first time in the various volumes 8 were included in the Transactions, 2 in Proceedings of the Institute of Metals Division (1928), 1 in Iron and Steel Technology in 1928, and 24 in Petroleum Development and Technology in 1927. Of the 12 papers accepted for Mining and Metallurgy 1 was, accepted for Geophysical Prospecting and 1 for the Transactions. Preparation for flotation begins with dragline mining, pumping, washing, screening, and desliming. Slimes, nominally -150 mesh material, constitute large quantities of phosphate and water which are a disposal problem. Older techniques involve sizing at about 35 mesh for separate coarse and fine treatment. The plus 14 mesh fraction does not require concentration. Coarse treatment includes agglomerate spiralling, belt flotation, thickening, scrubbing with sulfuric acid, de-oiling for reagent removal, and cationic flotation of fine quartz. A recent trend is to screen at coarser than 35 mesh size and eliminate coarse particle treatment, sacrificing some grade of this product. Techniques for flotation concentration of the fine size fraction are discussed.

His alma neater, the University of the South, has given him the honorary degree of Doctor of Science for his achievements in metallurgy. He has been active in many technical societies; has received the Whiting Medal of the American Foundrymen's Association for his work in the advancement of gray iron metallurgy, and is chairman of the gray iron division of the A.F.A.; was instrumental in initiating the Alloys of Iron Research of the Engineering Foundation and has served as a member of its Alloys of Iron Committee since the Committee's organization.
