"Electromagnetic surveys were conducted over the Yava sandstone-hosted lead deposit in Nova Scotia to evaluate the usefulness of such surveys for detecting and mapping sedimentaryhosted metallic ore deposits. Both transient and multifrequency systems were used for that purpose. The deposit consists of three zones of disseminated galena which also contain minor amounts of pyrite and sphalerite filling the interstices of the sandstone grains. Each zone overlies a basement depression and is separated from the adjacent zone by an intervening basement high. A conductive shale layer underlies the galena-rich sandstone formation at all three zones.Because the concentration of galena (3070 to 4% ) and other sulfides is too low to affect the resistivity of the sandstone formations for detection by ground electromagnetic (EM) methods, the strategy for our survey was to look for areas of basement depressions and the presence of conductive shale in those depressions by EM depth soundings. The presence of the galena-rich sandstone formations could be inferred because of the close association of these two features with the deposits in the Yava area. Both transient and multifrequency EM systems were successful in mapping the basement depressions and detecting conductive shale at the three known mineralized zones. The technique, therefore, seems to offer good prospects for mapping similar stratabound sedimentary-hosted sulfide deposits."

"The purpose of this paper is to introduce to the minerals processing marketplace a viable alternative to conventional mechanical agitation and pachuca airlift agitation. What follows is a brief introduction to the Atara Corporation and the fundamentals of how an Atara ""cannon"" mixer operates. The main body of the paper is concerned with the results of a study to evaluate the cannon mixer for a gold cvanide leach application. A brief summary of research and testing for other metallurgical applications is also presented.1. 1 THE COMPANYThe Atara Corporation is a privately owned Canadian company, headquarted in Dorval, Quebec. Its subsidiary, Atara Incorporated, located in Paramus, New Jersey services the municipal wastewater treatment market in the United States. Dorval focuses on industrial mixing applications in Canada and the US. The Atara Corporation provides design, engineering and specifications of agitators for mineral land other) processing applications. Fabrication of mixers is pursued in either Canada or the US, depending on the ultimate destination.Although Atara and its unique static in-tank mixer are relative newcomers to the mining industry, the cannon mixer has demonstrated its value over the past 20 years in municipal wastewater treatment services. In the past four years the Atara unit has been developed for industrial applications; the bulk of the development work has been for metallurgical applications. To-date the cannon mixer has been evaluated for mixing slurries in the following applications: nickel-copper concentrate storage, copper concentrate storage, coal slurry storage, gold cyanide leaching, uranium acid leaching, silver leaching and zinc acid leaching. "The Detour Lake gold deposit is located within the northwestern limit of the Archean Abitibi Subprovince of the Superior Province. Mineralized zones are hosted by a sequence of pillowed and massive flows, hyaloclastite units, and altered ultramafic rocks, and are commonly oriented parallel to a series of high-strain zones that are co-planar to the regional-scale Sunday Lake Deformation Zone. Early in its kinematic history, the Sunday Lake Deformation Zone placed older (2.72 Ga) volcanic rocks of the Detour Lake Formation over younger (2.70 Ga) sedimentary rocks of the Caopatina assemblage. Gold mineralization is also parallel to the position of a laterally persistent siliceous rock unit, the 2.725 Ga ‘Chert Marker Horizon.’ The Chert Marker Horizon coincides with the boundary between the mafic-dominated upper Detour Lake Formation and the ultramafic-dominated lower Detour Lake Formation. Stratigraphic and geochronological data suggest that the Chert Marker Horizon is a deformed felsic volcaniclastic unit. At a cut-off of 0.6 g/t Au, the Detour Lake deposit contains 17.26 million ounces of Au within 445.9 million tonnes of rock grading 1.20 g/t Au. Gold occurs in shear-hosted and extensional vein arrays within rocks of the upper and lower Detour Lake Formation and within the Chert Marker Horizon. The Detour Lake deposit has many of the characteristics of a greenstone-hosted, quartz-carbonate vein deposit; its very large size may be attributed to large-scale rheological controls resulting in the formation of dilatant sites in permissive rock units."

In this study, the fine coal waste subjected to the experiments is taken from the waste stockpile of Soma Coal Plant. The possibilities of its evaluation and the production of clean coal were investigated. For this purpose, Reichert Coal Spiral and Shaking Table are used. The minus 1 mm coal waste includes 60.43% ash and 50% minus 38 micron material by weight. The microscopic observations of the screen fractions were shown that the clay minerals are in fine sizes and the coarser size fractions contain silica and carbonate minerals as ash forming materials. The tests were conducted after desliming. The commercial grade clean coal product containing 29-35% ash with a calorific value of 3800-4200 kcal/kg (15.91-17.58 MJ/kg) was obtained by gravity methods.

The Somita plant processes low sulphide gold ore in Burkina Faso with a CIL process. After experiencing recurrent low gold recoveries, Somita undertook an investigation on the source of the problem. COREM conducted a mineralogical study on different pit samples. A series of tests was also conducted on a composite sample from the plant which shows a content of 3.4 g/t in gold and 0.48 % in graphite. A reference test in laboratory resulted in a recovery of gold of 75%, similar to plant recoveries for the evaluated ore. In these tests, even if cyanide is not deficient, it was diverted mainly into iron cyanide complex, copper cyanide complexes and by graphite adsorption. Causes of low recovery were also identified and quantified. Solutions to increase gold recovery were suggested such as increasing gold dissolution kinetics by O2 or by lead nitrate addition, change in activated carbon addition point location to the 1st cyanidation tank and finer grinding to increase liberation. Increase in the pH could also contribute to reduce cyanidation consumption. Following these recommendations, Somita changed carbon addition from tank 2 to tank 1 in the CIL circuit. This change led to an increase of more than 5% in gold recovery. A system for the addition of lead nitrate is also under implementation at the plant and benefit will be evaluated in 2013. Finally, pit management for cyanidation will be done based on mineralogy instead of gold content in the future.

"Audrey Resources' Mobrun Mine is located in Dufresnoy Township some 30 km to the northeast of Rouyn-Noranda. The Mobrun tine deposits consist of two major massive sulphide lenses; the newly discovered 1100 lens located 450 m south of the Main zone, and one ntellite lens, the 850-870-930 complex.The 1100 lens is hosted in a large pyroclastic unit bounded to the mouth by rhyolite and andesite flows and by a thick rhyolite unit to the art h. stratigraphically belon the three lenses. It consists of approximately 15 Mt of massive sulphide, of which 10.4 Mt are of economic ade. The Main lens lies comformably above thick rhyolite flows, ecciated and pyritized by the sulphide horizon, and is overlain by ttercalated ash tuffs and rhyolites which host the over-lying satellite ns. The Main lens consists of 3,3 Mt of massive sulphide, of which 523 000 tgrade0.80% Cu, 2.44%Zn,30.19 g/t Ag, and2.2 g/t Au he richer satellite lens (180 000 t) is part of the same volcanic stem and resulted from a resurgence of hydrothermal activity. ructure played a role in the final geometry of the deposits but did not eatly affect the volcanogenic and stratabound nature of the lens. Total production since the start of operations in 1985 amounts to 58 000 t and is restricted to the Main lens. Depuis le début des opérations, en 1985, la production totale est d’environ 568 000 t, provenant essentiellement de la lentille Principale. "The Chibougamau Explorers property comprises 35 claims or 1,726 acres in La Dauversiere and Rohault Townships along the west shore of Norhart Lake. The property is serviced by a twelve-mile all-weather high-way leaving the main St. Felicien-Chibougamau highway at mileage 121. This road junction will be a railway siding on the C.N.R. St. Felicien-Chibougamau branch line in early 1957. The property lies 30 miles due south from the town of Chibougamau. The mine-sponsored Chibougamau Explorers town has a population of 250 with 28 residences and a well equipped recreation centre.The original showing was found by Rider Storn, a prospector financed by Val d'Or interests during the 1950 field season. This showing did not stand up to detailed prospecting but it did lead to the discovery of the main zone by A. Oakley during the following winter.The company was incorporated in I 950 under the presidency of E. Ayrhart. Financing following the initial drilling involved an increase of capitalization from 3 to 5 million shares and the advent of financing and management control by Anacon Lead Mines Limited.Exploration and development to Jan. I, 1956, has included 42,331 feet of surface diamond drilling; 31,363 feet of underground drilling; a 3-compartment shaft to 1,245 feet, with 8 levels at 150-foot intervals; and I 1,054 feet of drifts, crosscuts, and raises. Ore reserves to the 900-foot level, proven and partly developed, total 546,725 tons averaging 0·30 ounces gold and 0·93 per cent copper. A mill with capacity of 500 to 750 tons will be installed by January 1956.GeologyThe Chibougamau Explorers property lies along the belt of Keewatin volcanics striking through Bachelor Lake, Opawica Lake, Doda Lake, Coapatina, Norhart Lake, and Rohault Lake, where it is in close proximity to the paragneisses of the Grenville series. The boundary of the paragneisses, a gradational contact, lies within a mile of the Chibougamau Explorers shaft collar."

"The Kidd Creek metallurgical site has been highly integrated to maximize revenues from its base metals mines. The site's operations include a Concentrator processing 4.3 million tonnes per year of copper-zinc ore, a Copper complex producing 100,000 tonnes per year copper cathode and a Zinc Plant producing 130,000 tonnes per year of zinc metal. To improve operating efficiency with increasing emphasis on productivity, process control, process automation and process optimization have been augmented and expanded during the last decade.New microprocessor based control systems provided the opportunity for the capturing of an expanded number of process related measurements. As supervisory computers were already in place, databases could be generated with only increased disc space and database management programs required. Once the data had been accumulated and stored, a method was then required for handling, screening and sorting large volumes of information in relatively quick and easy terms in order that the stored information could be used. By 1984, a decision to use personal computers for accounting, engineering and management reporting provided the vehicle necessary to handle this data. Using commercially available software, large volumes of stored process data can be downloaded from existing databases, filtered, sorted, analyzed, graphed, displayed, projected, reported and distributed. All this can be performed in very little time."

"Large-diameter ball mills have traditionally used steel liners—steel being a highly durable material that can be shaped into any desired geometry, among which the double-wave has been the preferred design. Such a design produces a purely cascading charge motion, which is ideal for the shearing action needed to produce a finer product. Today, however, rubber liners, which have been in existence for over forty years, are now preferred over traditional steel, largely because they weigh less and are easier to maintain. In this paper, we show the operating data from the Hudbay Minerals’ Constancia Mine, wherein the liners on a 26-by-40-foot mill were changed from conventional steel liners to PolyStl™ liners. It is then shown that this change reduced the amount of energy consumed whilst being able to maintain previous grind and throughput levels. The design is verified via discrete element simulations.IntroductionThe Constancia Mine (“Our Business: Peru,” 2016) is located in the southeastern Andes of Peru, at an elevation of approximately 4,200 m. It can be accessed via the CU-126 road, about 95 km from the town of Espinar in Espinar Province. The mine also contains both the Constancia and Pampacancha deposits in the Province of Chumbivilcas. Hudbay Minerals, Inc. acquired the mine in 2011, through the purchase of Norsemont Mining, Inc. and currently retains sole ownership of the property. Production of the Constancia Mine began in 2014, with commercial production levels being achieved in April 2015.The Constancia and Pampacancha deposits primarily include hypogene, supergene, and skarn ores. The Mine’s main products, however, are copper concentrate, with silver contents, and molybdenum concentrate. These mineral reserves are expected to last approximately 22 years. Constancia’s open-pit mine supplies a processing plant that is designed for 81,900 metric tons per day of throughput. Average annual copper production is estimated to be 82,000 mT (contained metal in concentrate). Actual plant production can be found in Table 1."

Structural and mechanical changes of urania are investigated when oxidized to U3O8. The CASTEP ab-initio quantum mechanical program, employing density functional theory is used. The total energy technique is implemented to investigate changes in the lattice constants. The ab-initio calculations predict a 36% increase in the volume per uranium atom when transforming from UO2 to U3O8, which agrees very well with experimental data. The implication of this prediction on the linear expansion and fuel fragmentation is discussed. The calculated elastic constants of urania are in good agreement with experiment. The predicted mechanical properties of UO2 and U3O8 are compared.

This paper presents a novel action recognition method for observing human workers using interactions between actions and related objects on an internal construction site. This method can be used to measure work rates for labour productivity monitoring. This monitoring is critical because the performance of a construction project is significantly impacted by labour productivity. However, construction sites are generally crowded with a large number of workers and objects. Such congestion disrupts the accurate, automatic recognition of construction workers? actions. This congestion is one reason that existing automatic action recognition studies of construction areas mainly focus on workers? actions themselves. However, the crowded conditions mean that sites could offer a great deal of clues that could be used for automatic action recognition. According to psychological studies, interactions clearly take place between human actions and related objects, such as between hammering and a hammer. Humans use these interactions to recognize actions or objects more accurately. On the construction site, workers, materials, tools, and equipment are carefully planned out ahead of actual construction. The categories of workers and objects are pre-defined and, as noted, specific interactions define relations between worker actions and objects. In this paper, the interactions are limited to human workers and their hand-held objects. Action recognition results can be combined with hand-held object information to improve recognition accuracy. With the limited interactions, experiments in this paper show a significant improvement in action recognition. This paper describes the utilization of these interactions to improve construction action recognition accuracy based on human skeleton data and 2D color video from Microsoft KINECT sensor.

"The most challenging gold gravity separations occur when gangue has a high s.g., gold is fine, or a combination thereof This paper examines such separations, and evaluates the performance of a 3-in Knelson Concentrator at various rotation speeds, a 4-in SuperBowl, and a laboratory Mozley Multi-Gravity Separator (MGS). Synthetic feeds, primary cyclone underflows and flash flotation concentrates are tested.It is concluded that higher rotation speed are mostly useful for very fine (< 3 7 µm) gold recovery, with potential loss of recovery in the 37-212 µm range. This problem is traced to the collapse of the flowing film at higher Gs, which hinders the percolation of particles of intermediate size. Increasing fluidization water flow can alleviate this problem, but the recovery of very fine particle then drops. The MGS does not operate with the same principles, and can achieve good to very good recoveries of very fine to fine gold particles, but the unit has a high cost to capacity ratio, and there is no evidence yet that it can yield smeltable concentrate grade or a concentrate that can be upgraded with a shaking table.IntroductionThis presentation is a sequel to similar CMP presentations of the past eight years; all focused on practical aspects of gold recovery. The first hard rock application of the Knelson Concentrator (Laplante et al, 1990), studies of the grinding and classification behaviour of gold and other malleable metals (Banisi et al, 1991; Laplante et al, 1995), the development of a 3-in Knelson based methodology to study gold gravity circuits (Laplante and Shu, 1992), a comparison of the Knelson and Falcon (Laplante, Laplante et al, 1993), the presentation of a test to determine the amount of gravity recoverable gold, or GRG (Laplante et al, 1996), and the use of synthetic materials, in particular tungsten, to mimic gold (Laplante et al, 1995) were presented. A summary of many practical implication of the McGill research was presented in 1994 (Laplante). Whereas gold gravity recovery was less popular and largely jig-based (in North America) at the beginning of the eighties, many gold plants now incorporate a gravity circuit, and the Knelson Concentrator is the most commonly used unit."

Located in the James Bay Territory of Quebec (figure 1), the Clearwater property is jointly owned by SOQUEM Inc. and Eastmain Resources Inc. Exploration on the property since the early 70&apos;s has resulted in the discovery of several gold showings. Exploration work by the joint venture since 1995 has led to the definition of the Eau Claire Zone containing an indicated resource of 540 000 tonnes grading 11.1 g/t Au (8.7 g/t Au cut at 34.28 g/t Au). Hosted by the archean Eastmain Greenstone Belt, the property geology is dominated by mafic volcanics containing thin horizons of felsic volcanics and/or sedimentary rocks (figure 2). The sequence is metamorphosed to the amphibolite facies and contains two small toalitic intrusions. Regionally, the structural trend is oriented E-W but in the area of the Eau Claire Zone a second trend oriented NE-SW is also present. The first exploration work on the property was conducted by SEREM and SDBJ from 1973 to 1976. It consisted of an airborne electromagnetic survey and a ground follow-up program on several grids. This program, comprising geological mapping, geophysics and drilling, led to the discovery of the Natel showing where a drill intersection returned 8.89 g/t Au over 2.65 m. From 1978 to 1985 the area was withdrawn from staking because of the hydroelectric projects of the James Bay. In 1985, Westmin Resources Limited and Eastmain Resources began an exploration program based on a helicopterborne electromagnetic survey. Once again, a ground follow-up program was conducted on several grids. This program included a soil geochemical survey that identified a strong (up to 10 g/t) gold anomaly. Drilling of the anomaly led to the discovery of the Eau Claire Zone where resources were estimated at 270 000 tonnes grading 6.1 g/t Au at the end of 1990. In 1995, SOQUEM Inc. took an option to gain a 50% interest on the property and obtained its interest in 1998. Since 1995, two principal mineralization zones were identified on the property. The "Rosemary Zone" consists of veinlets and disseminations of pyrite and chalcopyrite within a magnetite-rich amphibolite. The mineralized zone was identified by stripping within an area of 1000 by 500 metres. Drilling indicates copper grades up to 0.32 % Cu over 49.2 m. with locally grades of 0.75 % Cu over 5.9 m. The mineralised zone is associated with QFP dykes and corresponds to a strong magnetic anomaly and a strong copper and molybdenum soil anomaly. The "Eau Claire Zone" consists principally of a set of gold bearing quartz-tourmaline veins oriented E-W and dipping at 45-50??to the south (figure 3). More than ten different veins are recognised in the zone and up to eight veins were observed in a single trench (figure 4). The host rock between the veins shows a degree of deformation similar to the regional volcanosedimentary rocks. Each vein is hosted by a unit of actinolite-tourmaline-biotite schist up to one meter thick. The veins and their hosting schist clearly cross-cut the schistosity of the hosting lithologies and the contacts between amphibolites and felsic to intermediate rocks. Usually, the veins are less than a meter thick and are composed of quartz, tourmaline and calcite. The proportion of quartz and tourmaline varies from 0 to 80% within a single vein. The veins commonly show massive, banded or brecciated texture. Sulphides, mainly pyrite, pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite, generally form less than 5% of the vein material.

The Dominion Coal Board was created by Statute passed on July 17th, 1947, and was brought into effect by proclamation on October 21st, 1947. It is, consequently, a comparatively young body, having been in existence for only eighteen months. Before dealing with the constitution and duties of the Board, it may be well to answer the unspoken question of why it has been considered necessary to single out coal as one specific mineral requiring the continuous attention of a specially created permanent Board. In Canada, coal has been the neglected sister of the more spectacular minerals and it comes as a surprise co many to note that in 1948 the value of the coal produced in Canada was higher than that of any other mineral with the one exception of gold. Coal touches upon our daily lives in many different places of which the public are not generally conscious. As household fuel, it is a necessity of life in this northern climate; as a source of steam, it provides the heat for most of our industries; it is the food of the &apos;iron horse&apos; chat shuttles our persons and our goods across the land; it is the source of power in many parts of the country; it is the chemical reducing agent chat, in our furnaces, transmutes the metallic oxides to the virgin metal. Coal is, in fact, the indispensable mineral chat forms the corner-stone of our present structure of industrial civilization. Is it, then, such an odd thing that the provision of an adequate supply of coal should be a matter of national interest or that measures should have been taken by government co provide for a constant watch, by a permanent Board, on the supply of co al? ? The Board is the result of the recommendations of the Royal Commission on coal which made a long and detailed study of the Canadian coal problem. It is composed of a permanent Chairman and six part-time members, most of whom have had intimate contact with various phases of the industry.

"The government o f Canada has, since 1981, been under intense political pressure to modify its foreign direct investment (FOI) regulatory regime(1). To date the government&apos;s response has been limited to administrative and ""cosmetic"" changes: substantive issues have been largely ignored(2). However, as long as the economy continues to flounder , the Foreign Investment Review Agency (FIRA), as it is presently formulated , will continue to be an easy target for government critics . This phenomenon, in conjunction with the virtual certainty of a federal general election within two years, suggests that changes to the FIR Act will be seriously entertained by the present government.Recent events indicate that if change s are made, they will likely entail the adoption of a special-sector approach within the existing framework of a general screening system(3). Since this approach is currently employed in Australia(4), it would seem to be appropriate, from a public policy perspective to study that country&apos;s experience in developing and operating such a scheme. In doing so, I shall focus on the mineral sector; the rationale for doing so is as follows. First, this sector served as the focal point of the Australian FOI regulatory debater(5), Second , with the exception of the oil and gas industries, the non-petroleum mineral sector is one of the few areas of the Canadian economy wherein the Trudeau government has adopted an explicit domestic ownership target(6). Third, the non-petroleum mineral sector is, undoubtedly, a prime candidate to be denoted a s a special-sector if such a framework were to be utilized by the Canadian government!"".Although international comparisons are fraught with danger , a Canadian/Australian comparison is particularly appropriate(8). Both countries have reasonably similar economic, political and social structures . Furthermore, as noted above , Australia is the only other western country which employs a general screening mechanism for FOI. In addition, it utilizes a special area approach ; within this scheme, an explicit target of a minimum of 50% Australian ownership of all new resource projects has been formulated and clearly promulgated to all of the relevant interest groups. This policy, broadly defined, has been in place for more than six years and during this time the Australian mineral sector has, by world standards, prospered(9). Hence, the Australian experience in designating the mineral sector as a key area within a general screening system, should be of interest to Canadian policy-makers."

The Hoyle Pond underground mine is located in the Porcupine Gold Camp, 18 km east of downtown Timmins. Since the initiation of production in 1985, the operation has produced in excess of 1.9 million ounces of gold at a grade of 15 grams per tonne. Currently, Hoyle Pond ranks 8th in total ounce production for all past and present producing mines in the camp, with the highest head grade of any of the significant past, or present producing mines in Timmins. Cut and fill, shrinkage, longhole and panel mining methods are employed to excavate the narrow gold bearing structures. Using illustrative examples, this paper provides an overview of factors, such as geologic setting, rock mechanics challenges and mine infrastructure, which influence mine design at Hoyle Pond.

"As part of the Namew Lake project a mill was constructed to treat 1900 tpd of ore grading approximately 0.90% CU and 2.45% Ni to produce copper and nickel concentrates.Nickel occurs mainly as pentlandite and violarite while copper occurs as chalcopyrite. Two main ore types are present1 lower grade disseminated sulphides in a talcose ultramafic gangue and a higher grade solid sulfide with a granitic breccia matrix.Primary crushed ore from underground is treated on surface in a conventional closed circuit crushing plant using 2-stage cone crushing. Crushed ore is conveyed to storage and then fed at a controlled rate to a grinding circuit employing a rod and ball mill with hydrocyclone classification. Rougher flotation separates and cleans nickel and copper sulfides from waste materials followed by a high lime separation circuit to separate the minerals into final concentrates. Dewatering is achieved through use of high capacity thickeners and pressure filters prior to delivery to a loadout area. The crushing and milling control is highly automated.Plant design was based on metallurgical samples obtained from drill cores. After the first year of operations, plant results compared favourably with design projections.INTRODUCTIONThe Namew Lake Project is a joint venture partnership between Outokumpu Mines Ltd. (Canada) and Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Company Ltd. (60%). The project included construction of a mine and milling complex to treat approximately 500,000 tonnes per year of copper-nickel ore grading o.91% and 2.44% Ni. Known reserves are estimated at 2. 65 million tonnes. The deposit is located approximately 65 km south of Flin Flon (120 km by road) and about 5 km east of the Manitoba-Saskatchewan border. The decision to construct a concentrating facility was made June 15, 1987 and construction started a week later. The facility, designed for 1900 tonne per day throughput, was ready for commissioning in September 1988. Outokumpu Engineering of Finland was chosen to prepare metallurgical flowsheets, select and develop plant layouts, and provide construction management. Kilborn (Toronto) contributed detailed engineering for civil, structural, mechanical and electrical components and outokumpu Equipment of Canada, the design, the supply, and commissioning of the instrumentation package. Hudson Bay undertook the initial metallurgical test work and preliminary design work."

"THE TOWN OF Salmo, rail centre for the Salmo lead-zinc mining district, is in southeastern British Columbia 26 miles by road east of Trail an about the same distance south of Nelson. The belt in which the mines occur is a few miles east of Salmo and extends about 6 miles north of the town and 17 miles south and southwest to the International Boundary. The belt includes the H. B. mine of The Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada, Limited, the Jersey mine of Canadian Exploration Limited, the Reeves MacDonald mine, and the Jack Pot property of New Jersey Zinc Explorations Limited.Since 1949, the Jersey and Reeves MacDonald mines have produced most of the lead and zinc in the district. From 1949 through 1954 these two mines together produced a total of 233,134 ounces of silver, 87,659,399 pounds of lead, 215,708,856 pounds of zinc and 475,397 pounds of cadmium. This amounts to more than 80 per cent of the total production of lead and 95 per cent of the total production of zinc from the district since the first recorded production in 1906. Reserves at the largest properties amount to several million tons of ore containing 4 to 7 per cent combined lead and zinc. Several prospects are potential producers.Regional StructureThe main structural units in the Salmo area are outlined in Figure I, and the major rock units of the stratigraphic column are listed in the following table. The lead and zinc deposits are replacements in a highly deformed limestone formation near the base of the Laib group, and all mineralized zones are on the south and east side of structural unit 2 (see Figure I)."

The difference in age, host rock lithology, alteration and style of mineralization indicates a fundamental difference in the format ion of gold deposits in the Flin Flon and Amisk Lake areas. The Flin Flon area contains early quartz-sulfide-gold veins fo rmed within intermittently active fractures and later plutonic hosted deposits thought to be generated in a porphyry system. In the Amisk Lake area two types of gold occurrences are recognized: I) gold-quartzcarbonate- sulfide veins within or flanking fault zones and 2) structurally and stratigraphical ly controlled zones of dissem inated and vein type sulfide-gold mineralization within extrusive and intrusive rhyolite and dacite porphyries. Both types of deposits are set within supracrustal rocks. are accompanied by intense alteration haloes and were formed prior to the major deformation event suggesting an early, epigenetic hydrothermal origin.
