"The Adanac molybdenum porphyry deposit near Atlin, in northwestern British Columbia, was discovered in 1905. It was explored extensively between 1967 and 1980.The deposit is within a complex, multi-phase, quartz monzonite stock that is a satellite of the post-accretionary, Surprise Lake Batholith. Biotite K-Ar dates range from 703 ± 2.4 Ma to 71.6 ± 2.1 Ma, indicating a Late Cretaceous age of emplacement.The deposit comprises an irregular-shaped ring or halo peripheral to a quartz monzonite porphyry dome, or ""cupola': The shape of the ring, and of a smal~ fine-grained quartz monzonite intrusion, and the presence of higher-grade mineralimtion on the eastern flank of the cupola, suggest partial control by a preminera/ structure. The deposit is truncated by a steep, northwesterly dipping, normal fault (Adera Fault) that down-dropped the northern half of the deposit by a minimum of 100 mThe deposit lacks strong zonal alteration but there are narrow envelopes of potassic alteration around some veins and local zones of intense wall-rock silicification. There is considerable retrograde alteration along postminera/ faults and fractures.Molybdenite occurs in veins and fractures, many of which are relatively flat-lying. They occur in all phases of quartz monzonite. Molybdenum is the only element of economic significance. There are vein and skarn occurrences with tungsten, tin, lead, zinc and precious metals peripheral to the deposit.In 1981, Placer Development Limited reported an ""undiluted mineable mineral reserve"" of 151 971 000 tonnes grading 0.063% Mo at a cutoff grade of 0.04% Mo and a strip ratio of 1.5:1."

"Corrosion of underground support measures constitutes a concern to industry in both safety and economic terms. It also represents a potential market for corrosion resistant materials such as stainless steel.In order to assess the market potential for a stainless steel friction rock bolt, a review of current corrosion processes and remedial or preventative measures in the underground environment was undertaken. This was supplemented by distribution to industry of a detailed questionnaire, concerning the magnitude and extent of support corrosion and the costs of current support measures, and by visits to selected sites. Following data synthesis, support costs were established and the economic benefit of stainless steel rock bolts evaluated.Stainless steel rock bolts can be an effective cost reducing measure in unscreened areas requiring frequent reconditioning. Their benefit is rapidly diminished, however, if only partial reconditioning is required, the reconditioning interval is long or if screening is required.While most industry personnel are receptive to the application of stainless steel support measures, the localization of corrosion problems and the potential high cost of this type of support are barriers to its widespread implementation. They have potential for use in extreme environments. However, this relatively small market may not be economically viable.IntroductionFriction rock bolts are the simplest of all interior rock fixtures. The friction resistance to sliding of the rock on the bolt is generated by a radial pressure against the borehole wall over the length of the bolt. Two types of friction rock bolts are currently marketed, the Split Set and the Swellex.Unlike conventional point anchor bolts, friction rock stabilizers may move relative to the rock strata and maintain their capacity even if rock shifts, a condition that sometimes loosens or breaks conventional bolts. Ease of installation, effectiveness in jointed as well as weaker rock, and the possibility of having relatively long bolts are a few of the many advantages which generate considerable interest in the application of friction rock bolts (Wijk and Skogberg, 1982). However, due to their thin-walled construction and large surface area, frictional rock stabilizers are more susceptible than conventional bolts to damage by corrosion. For this reason, they are normally not recommended for long-term use (Jolly and Neumeier, 1987).In light of the above discussion; the Nickel Development Institute commissioned a study by the Geomechanics Research Centre with the objective of generating a credible database for the assessment of the feasibility of a stainless steel friction bolt system in corrosive ground and mine environments."

"Garnet occurs in schists and gneisses in all provinces of Canada, all mainly in Quebec and Ontario. There is currently a renewed interest in exploration for economic sources of garnet for abrasive applications because of the inherent dangers from exposure to ground silica from sandblasting operations.High-quality garnet is used for lapping and grinding of glass and ceramics; for coated and bonded products such as sandpaper and cloth; and abrasive wheels for grinding and finishing various metals, woods, rubber and plastics. Low-quality garnet is used for cleaning and conditioning aluminum and other soft mewls, particularly by aircraft manufactures. Garnet may be added to grouting cements for oil-well drilling applications, and it has also been used for low- to medium-level radiation shielding. Garnet has been studied extensively by CANMET and its predecessor, Mines Branch, between 1917 and 1990. Twenty-nine studies relating 10 various aspects of beneficiation are presented and a review of the more important studies is presented. The information includes mineralogy, beneficiation methods, product sizes and analyses."

A synthesis of colloidal gold shell particles with a silica core is described. Small gold nanoclusters were attached to the functionalized surface of colloidal silica particles. Reductive growth and coalescence of these clusters lead to the formation of a closed gold layer. By variation of the thickness of this gold layer and the radius of the shell it is possible to adjust the plasmon resonance of the gold shell particles over the whole visible and infrared region of the spectrum. The optical properties of the particles made are in good agreement with theoretical calculations for coreshell particles. Due to their low polydispersity these gold shell particles form in solution large crystals with submicron lattice constants. It is also possible to produce hollow gold shells by dissolution of the silica core. A new method to coat the silica core gold shell particles with an additional outer silica shell is also presented. This allows due to a reduction in the Van-der-Waals forces to make more permanent dried crystals and facilitates functionalization of the particles for use in various photonic applications.

"Incorporated in 1976, Sidbec Normines was mandated to exploit a deposit of specular hematite at Fire Lake. A combined effort of three companies, Sidbec, which holds 50. 1 % of the actions, British Steel Corporation another 41.67 % and finally Quebec Cartier Mining, a subsiduary of U.S. Steel Corporation, with still another 8.23 %.The deposit is located 60 miles north of the town of Gagnon. The extracted ore is crushed, in a giratory crusher, to-8 11 chunks, and from there, it is transported, by rail, to a concentrator at Lac Jeannine.A concentrate containing 65.5 % Fe and 5.5 % Sio2 is produced, using conventional methods like autogeneous mil ls and spirals. The concentrate is then transported by rail to the Port Cartier installations.The installations in Port Cartier include a secondary concentrator, a pellet plant, and stockpiling facilities for pellets and concentrate. The pellet plant has two product lines in paralel, producing a total designed tonnage of 6 millions tons of iron ore pellets, of which 3mi11ions tons are used in direct reduction furnaces.The secondary concentrator is designed to remove a portion of the silica contained in the ore, usually less than 2 % Si02 should remain from the original 5.5 % Si02 in order to produce iron ore pellets which are well suited for use in direct reduction and electric furnaces."

"IntroductionIndustrial applications of mica utilize two commercially important varieties of mica: muscovite and phlogopite. Muscovite mica is a potassium mica with a general chemical formula, H2KA1(Si04)3 h, and is sometimes referred to as a potas hsilicate. Phlogopite is a magnesium mica having a general chemical formula, H2KMgSi(Si04)3, and is distinguished from the muscovite mica by its decomposition in sulphuric acid.Canada is one of the major natural mica producers in the world. A large tonnage of the mica powders is at present mined and processed in the Eastern Townships of Quebec. This Canadian mica is of the phlogopite type. A closely related mineral of the mica family which is widely used in the construction industry is vermiculite. It is a dehydrated magnesium-aluminum-iron silicate characterized by a foliated structure. Expanded vermiculite, which is often referred to as exfoliated mica, is used as many types of thermal and acoustic insulation, as loose fill in buildings, as an aggregate in concrete, as an ingredient in plaster and insulating concrete , and in fire-proofing compositions. Natural phlogopite and muscovite mica powders are used extensively as reinforcing agents in organic polymers. They also have a wide range of applications in commerical products. For example, dry-ground mica powders are used in large tonnage as a surface finish in roofing materials and as a bonding agent in wallboard joint cement. Common products such as paint, rubber, plastics and welding rods contain mica. Recent studies have also shown that mica powders can be added to portland cement in the preparation of concrete products, as they could improve the tensile strength of the concrete products. "The expansion of the concentrator at New Gold’s New Afton copper-gold mine in British Columbia, Canada, completed in 2015, included an increase in the required retention time of the cleaning circuit. On site pilot testing of a Woodgrove Staged Flotation Reactor (SFR) had shown that a high grade copper concentrate would be produced with excellent recovery. The SFR was selected rather than conventional tank cell technology based on the much smaller footprint (which rendered a separate and expensive building extension unnecessary), high concentrate grades demonstrated in testing, and the lower energy requirement. Three SFRs, each capable of taking a nominal feed of 700 cubic meters per hour were installed and commissioned 10 months after the receipt of order. The SFRs operate in series and all of the cells produce a final concentrate typically grading 32% Cu, while the overall SFR stage recovery averages 55%. The tailings from the SFRs are treated in the original conventional three-stage cleaner circuit where the remaining values are recovered in a concentrate grading 28% Cu. Design production was achieved within days of the initial start-up of the SFR circuit.INTRODUCTIONThe New Afton concentrator, located near Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada processes a copper-gold ore with a designed head grade of 0.96% Cu, 0.72 g/tonne Au, and 2.22 g/t Ag.The New Afton Mine is a block cave mining operation. Ore is undercut from the bottom up and removed at the extraction level from a grid of draw points. Ore is trammed to the ore passes by underground loader and dropped to a haulage level for transport by trucks to the gyratory crusher. From the crusher, the ore is conveyed to the mill via a 4.5 kilometre long conveyor system. Block caving was chosen for the New Afton deposit because the underground infrastructure could be built below the historical open pit of the Afton Mine (a previous operation of Teck Resources) and this method is favorable to large-scale low-cost mining.The New Afton deposit is a copper-gold, alkalic porphyry system. Hypogene mineralization is characterized by discontinuous copper sulphide veinlets and disseminations, principally chalcopyrite and minor bornite, along with pyrite as the second most dominant sulphide. Gold particles vary in size from 5 µm to 40 µm and occur as native gold and electrum, associated mostly with the chalcopyrite grains and never with the pyrite. In some instances, a second alteration phase has resulted in the copper sulphides being replaced by tennantite-tetrahedrite locally and along faults that transect the mineralized body. The design head grade of arsenic is 244 PPM, although the presence of tennantite is inconsistent and can vary from trace levels to 15% of the total copper. No arsenopyrite is present in the hypogene ores. Supergene mineralization, consisting of native copper with accessory chalcocite occurs in minor amounts along faults and highly oxidized near-surface portions of the deposit."

"Titanium dioxide pigment plants using the so-called “chloride process” produce considerable amounts of chloride waste, which contains predominantly iron chloride. In most cases, this waste is dissolved in a weak hydrochloric acid solution and then neutralised. The metal content of the waste is dumped as hydroxide sludge, while its chloride content is lost in an effluent.Rio Tinto Iron & Titanium has developed a new proprietary process whereby pure metallic iron and chlorine gas are recovered from chloride waste by electrolysis. This process uses a two compartment cell separated by an anion exchange membrane to prevent iron cycling between its trivalent and divalent valence. The cathode is made of titanium Grade 7, while the anode is a dimensionally stable one of the type “metal–mixed metal oxide” (MMO) for the evolution of chlorine gas. The catholyte is concentrated and pH-adjusted iron-rich chloride solution originating from chloride waste. The anolyte is recirculating solution containing alkali or alkali earth chlorides such as MgCl2, NaCl, etc. Current efficiencies above 90% can be achieved at temperatures about 80°C using catholyte solutions almost saturated in iron chloride and other chlorides.In this paper, we discuss the details of this process, and how this could be integrated within a chloride pigment plant for the treatment of chloride wastes."

"During hard times, the focus on tax issues makes a slight change in direction. Mining companies contemplate the tax treatment of transactions and circumstances which are the product of a difficult financial environment. Some of these issues are discussed in this month's edition of Tax Notes.Every industrial sector in Canada is undergoing a major restructuring of some form, and the mining industry is not an exception. The longest recession since the Great Depression continues to affect the economy. Mining firms seek to bring their debt/equity ratios into line, and try to replenish depleted retained earnings by selling assets. This month, Tax Notes briefly examines some of the tax issues which are generally encountered during the course of such a restructuring process.Debt SettlementOne question which commonly arises during hard times concerns the tax treatment of a "" gain "" realized by a debtor on the settlement of a debt. Consider, for example, a simple situation where a creditor wants to protect itself from further losses, and makes a deal with the mining company to accept a cash payment of $8 million in full settlement of a $10 million loan. In financial terms, the debtor has made a $2 million gain on the settlement of the debt. What is the tax treatment of that gain?The Income Tax Act (the Act) contains provisions in section 80 of the Act and in section 5400 of the Income Tax Regulations which deal specifically with this question. First of all, it is noted that the $2 million gain is not brought directly into income for tax purposes. However, as indicated below, the gain could affect the debtor's income indirectly to the extent that certain of the debtor's tax pools must be reduced by the amount of the gain."

Settling of copper, lead, and other metals in slags is an important part of overall recovery of metals, both in primary and secondary operations. The impact of slag reduction on settling is not well known. This is important since the cycle time for slag cleaning can be significantly changed with reduction of slag, through a decrease in slag viscosity and growth of metal/sulphide particles. KPM has worked with a number of primary and secondary recyclers to better understand how reduction of slag can improve overall operation. In this presentation, we describe the type of test work and analysis done and how this information can be used to guide improvements in metal recovery from slags. INTRODUCTION Typically, copper smelter slags contain about 1-2% copper, both in the form of copper and copper sulphide beads and dissolved copper oxide in the slag (converter slags are recycled to the smelter). With the average grade of world copper deposits close to 0.7%, it is practical to recovery copper from these slags. This is done routinely by one of two methods. The first method uses slow cooling in large ladles or beds to grow particles of copper sulphide. The slag is then crushed, milled, and floated for copper recovery. The slow cooling promotes precipitation and growing of the sulphide particles from the solution and then, the slag can then be milled to recover the copper through froth flotation. A consideration of this process includes the energy cost related to grinding, the use of water, capital cost for ladles, and the availability of tailing dumps. At the same time, the retreatment of the Cu concentrate produced in the mill will displace fresh concentrate, which ultimately results in a reduction of the throughput. The second method is the so-called “slag cleaning” and is based on the settling of copper and copper sulphides particles dispersed in the slag. This is achieved by decreasing its viscosity by increasing the slag temperature and reducing the iron spinel solid phases (magnetite) that increase the apparent viscosity of the slag. Typically, the reduction does not extend to the reduction of copper, and soluble copper (mainly as oxide) and fine matte particles remain at concentrations typically at or above 0.5% (Cardona et al., 2011; Cardona, 2011). This is an improvement on 20 years ago when slag was sent to dumps at 1% or less (Demetrio et al., 2000).

"During the past few years emphasis has been placed on the importance of major faults, fault zones, and associated structures in localizing ore deposition. This interest has developed partly through experience in mining camps in other parts of the world, and partly by the discovery of such structures associated with ore deposits in the Abitibi region, northwestern Quebec. The recognition of these structures has been brought about chiefly by detailed mapping that has been gradually extended along most of the southern gold belt of Quebec and across adjacent parts of Ontario. In the Chibougamau region of northern Abitibi, progress has been made in mapping major faults by using aeroplane photographs with a scale of about 1,000 feet to 1 inch for field mapping. These studies have shown that many large faults occur in the Abitibi region; also that there is a relationship, direct or indirect, between faults and mineral deposition. The faults are, however, of more than one type and age, and this should be clearly appreciated in any planned programme for prospecting this great region adequately.Geology of the Abitibi RegionGeneral GeologyFaults of more than one age and type occur in the Abitibi region. In order to appreciate some of the age relationships of the faults, a brief summary of the historical aspects and major structural features of the geology (fig. 1) is necessary. These historical aspects may be briefly summarized in chronological order as follows:(1) Accumulation of Archæan lavas and associated pyroclastic rocks, either alternating with, or essentially followed by, deposition of sedimentary rocks, and interrupted at least once by local and perhaps regional folding and erosion."

"This paper discusses the effect of water chemistry, reagent type, and other environmental factors on the performance of sulfide mineral size reduction and froth flotation processes. Two specific problems will be discussed: l.) the importance of appropriately utilizing the electrochemical window that is created in the grinding process to enhance sulfide mineral recovery by froth flotation; and 2) the impact of steel grinding media versus autogenous grinding on the efficiency of sulfide mineral flotation with varying thiol collectors and water sources.IntroductionThe mutual dependency between size reduction and mineral froth flotation is well recognized from the viewpoint of particle size and mineral liberation characteristics. The purpose of this paper is to discuss two less obvious industrial interactions between size reduction and froth flotation that have come up in the various plant optimization studies conducted by this author. These interactions are complex but appear to be important at the industrial level as plant throughput is directly affected, either positively or negatively by such interactions. Examples v.ill be given on how the method of grinding influences flotation and how different water sources influence the flotation behavior of electrochemically sensitive minerals. With each of these interactions, a number of fundamental research studies have shown previously that some effects can be measured under idealized and very small scale experiments. Such research studies will not be cataloged or exhaustingly reviewed in this paper. Whether these same types of effects can be measured in an industrial environment and are economically important is much less certain. This paper will present some rather unique experiences gained from larger scale test experiences which clearly indicate findings that plant operators should be aware of."

"Flow of traffic in the underground mine has been improved through the years with clever use of traffic lights. The evolution is characterized by three major design changes. This paper will scan the basic criteria of these designs.IntroductionMines Gaspe, formerly known as Gaspe Copper Mines Limited, is a member of the Noranda Group of companies. The mine is the ""raison d'etre"" of the town of Murdochville, located 600 m above sea level on the Gaspe Peninsula. Paved highways link the town with Gaspe, 95 km to the east, and with Anse Pleureuse, 400 km to the north, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence.The low-grade copper mineralization was discovered in 1921 at Copper Mountain by local prospectors, the Miller brothers. Noranda Mines Limited obtained an interest in the property in 1937. World War II interrupted exploration work and it was not until 195I that a decision was made to bring the property into production.Initially, operations were confined to the Needle Mountain underground deposits which commenced production in 1955. Between 1968 and 1982, low-grade ore from the Mountain open pit supplemented the production. Due to the depressed market, surface and underground operations were suspended in 1982. Needle Mountain underground mining resumed in the second half of 1984, but the Copper Mountain open-pit operation remained idle. Since 1979, more than 75 km of exploration drilling resulted in the discovery of two new deposits, one which is located under the town of Murdochville . Mines Gaspe's present ore reserve, approximating 8 million tonnes, will be depleted by the end of 1992."

"Among other components, ore body „T“ was discovered in the Bor pit copper mine at a depth of app. 500m. The ore body is relatively small: 60-65m long, 40-45m wide and up to 50m high, but with an extremely high content of copper and accompanying metals. The rock mass containing the ore body is composed of altered andesite of relatively poor physical-mechanical characteristics. The exploitation of this ore body by way of conventional mining methods was associated with high risk, cost, and potential losses of the rich ore. Due to everything specified hereinbefore, the adopted solution involved ore exploitation with complete ensuring of excavation stability, thus forming an extremely large underground opening. The excavation and supporting were performed according to the NATM principles along with applying shotcrete, 9-25 m long cables, and horizontal and vertical lattice girders. The excavation of the ore body was completed in app. 2.5 years, all the while ensuring complete stability and security of people and equipment; construction works were constantly monitored. The proposed solution for ore excavation enabled more than 95% exploitation of ore as requested by the Investor, while depletion due to waste-rock excavation was less than the allowed 5%. INTRODUCTIONThe Bor copper deposit is located in Eastern Serbia. Copper exploitation in Bor commenced as far back as 1902. A total of 26 ore bodies varying in size and valuable mineral content have been excavated so far. One of the most recent excavated ore bodies is ore body „T“, which is one of the smallest bodies by volume, but also a body with one of the largest content of copper and accompanying metals. An important fact regarding its exploitation is that it is located at a depth of app. 500 m; that its shape is irregular: 60-65 m long; 40-45 m wide and app. 50 m high; and that it lays within a rock mass of relatively poor physical-mechanical characteristics. In addition, above it, in its immediate vicinity, ore body „F“ was previously excavated and its room was refilled with backfill and water. Excavation methods common in mining practice (excavation with caving, excavation with backfilling, excavation with protective pillars) were inadequate in this case for various reasons:• The immediate vicinity of the previous ore body „F“ room could cause expansion of the caving zone also to that room, along with penetration of groundwater and flotation sludge;• Possibility of deformation expansion caused by caving as far up as the surface of the terrain, including the urban area;• Difficulties in maintaining the stability of excavation sidewalls having steep slopes and great height;• Significant loss of ore mass with a relatively high content of metals etc."

This study has been carried out owing to the French research program PROMETHEREF, which aims to improve the knowledge of thermal and mechanical properties of industrial refractories at high temperature. In this frame, this paper relates a collaborative study between Saint-Gobain CREE, R&D Centre for Saint-Gobain Ceramics & Plastics in Europe (Cavaillon), the Materials Center P.M. Fourt of Ecole des Mines de Paris (Evry) and the Research Group on Heterogeneous Materials (GEMH) of ENSCI (Limoges). Data collected at high temperatures by using different means (bending tests, ultrasonic measurements,...) allows the identification of the high temperature behavior of two fused cast materials, produced by Saint-Gobain group for the glass manufacturing industry. The results emphasize the importance of the transformation of zirconia and of the viscosity of the glassy intergranular phase on the mechanical behavior. Damage under the form of microcracking caused by thermal expansion mismatch between the phases is also observed during cooling down at low temperature, when the material is elastic.

"The East Sullivan Stock (ESS) is a small, composite felsic alkaline pluton of presumedlate Archean age in the Val d’Or mining district. Three main facies have been distinguished: mon-zonite sensu stricto, porphyritic monzonite, and green trachytic porphyry. This monzonitic group ofrocks is of relatively homogeneous composition with high abundances of Na2O, K2O, Ba, Sr, Rb, Zr,Mo and LREE. The alkaline ESS is distinguished from other igneous units in the Val d’Or miningdistrict, such as the Bourlamaque Batholith, by relatively high concentrations of Ba, Sr, Rb, Mo, Cuand Au. The ESS hosts many base (Cu, Mo) and precious (Au) metal occurrences, including: (1)porphyry style Cu-Au-Mo disseminated sulfde deposits, (2) Cu-Au deposits in volcanic rocks near the ESS contact, and (3) pyritic gold mineralization in east-west trending shear zones. The ESS is well defined by concentrical zoning on the aeromagnetic vertical gradient color map, and displays four linear trends, which are assumed to be structural lineaments, at 035°-055°, 320°-300°, east-west, and north-south. The main mineral occurrences related to the stock display a preferred spatial association with the east-west linear magnetic trends.The ESS is preferentially located along a major structure and was emplaced late in the evolutionof the Abitibi subprovince like other felsic alkaline plutons. This stock is similar to late-tectonic min-eralized felsic alkaline intrusions of the Kirkland Lake and Larder Lake mining districts in Ontario, and to the Allard stock in the U.S.A. which is associated with gold and base metal mineralization. Similarities also exist with younger alkaline plutons associated with Cu-Mo-Au porphyry deposits in the Canadian Cordillera, which formed in tensional tectonic environments. The felsic alkaline magmamay have formed by partial melting of deeply buried supracrustal rocks, concomitant with the development of deep fractures such as the Cadillac Fault. In such an environment, hydrothermal solutions carrying remobilized metals from deep supracrustal rocks may have deposited gold and base metals in structural traps. "Selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite was studied using various surface treatment methods such as electrolysis, ozone treatment, and plasma. Oxidation via electrolysis method indicated that only chalcopyrite surface is affected by electrolysis due to conductivity difference with molybdenite. Oxidation treatments and XPS analyses indicated that chalcopyrite became hydrophilic due to deposition of oxidized iron on its surface. Various oxidizing methods also showed that chalcopyrite was selectively oxidized and this can apply selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite. The possible mechanisms are proposed in this work based on surface analyses and thermodynamic calculations.INTRODUCTIONCopper sulphide minerals often associate molybdenite (MoS2) which is one of the most important by-products (Wills, 2006). It is important to recover molybdenite perfectly not only since molybdenite is valuable mineral, but also contamination of molybdenite into copper concentrate or contamination of copper mineral into molybdenite concentrate indicates penalty for both concentrate values (Wills, 2006). Conventional separation of copper sulphide and molybdenite has been achieved with sulphide bulk flotation followed by selective molybdenite flotation with NaHS addition since NaHS works as a depressant for copper sulphide. However, this current process shows imperfect molybdenite recovery and depressant such as NaHS needs to be used under specific flotation plant since it might be environmental contaminant. Hirajima et al., (2014) have been studied selective flotation of molybdenite and chalcopyrite (CuFeS2), which is the most important copper mineral, with plasma pre-treatment. They reported that plasma pre-treatment process followed by washing treatment can improve molybdenite floatability and depress chalcopyrite. This result is attributed to surface oxidation and selective conversion of chalcopyrite and molybdenite wettability. It may be hypothesized that another surface oxidation methods could give a similar result as plasma treatment process. To test this hypothesis, in this study, as comprehensive study of oxidation effect, various oxidation methods such as electrolysis, ozone, and plasma were investigated. Electrochemical measurements, thermodynamic calculations to predict the chemical reactions happened during the process, various surface analyses, and flotation experiments were carried out."

"Porcupine Peninsular mine is at the extreme southwestern end of North peninsula in Night Hawk lake, Cody township, Ontario. It lies approximately 10 miles east of the gold-producing district of Porcupine.Gold in quartz veins was discovered on Gold -island in Night Hawk lake in 1906, the same year in which the now famous Porcupine gold camp was discovered farther west. Most of the claims now held by the Company were originally staked by Charles Auer in 1907, In 1910 when the level of the lake was exceptionally low, gold was discovered in a quartz vein near the shore and close to the present mine shaft.The mine is developed by a main shaft to a depth of 440 feet, with levels at 80, 180, 300, and 425 feet vertical depth and by a winze to 630 feet. A mill of 200 tons daily capacity was built during 1923, Production commenced on January 4, 1924, and continued without interruption to May 31; 1926, when operations were suspended due to a decrease in the grade of ore. Total production amounted to 27,416 ounces of gold from 99,708 tons of ore, an average grade of 0.275 oz. a ton. Diamond drilling and re-sampling of the mine during 1934 and 1935 indicated approximately 1,480,000 tons, having an average grade of 0.123 oz. gold a ton, above the 625-foot level."

"The Aldermac deposit and associated prospects occur in the Noranda Archean volcanic centre of the Abitibi greenstone belt. Over two million tons of are grading 1.65% copper, with minor gold and silver, were mined between 1933 and 1943. The deposit has features in common with the Vauze and Millenbach mines in the same district.Recent detailed mapping, geochemistry and petrography combined with data from former diamond drilling and mining operations permit a re-interpretation of the Aldermac area. The orebodies and spatially related sulphidic zones are con eluded to be volcanogenic.The host rocks are a chemically bimodal suite of mafic and rhyolitic flows, volcaniclastics and related subvolcanic intrusions. Massive sulphide lenses are spatially related to a quartz-feldspar- phyric rhyolite dome and siliceous, volcanic-exhalative sedimentary rocks, The succession is cut by gabbro and syenite, related to later stages of volcanism, and by post Kenoran diabase dykes. Regional metamorphism attained the low greenschist facies, but the rocks lack penetrative deformation.Hydrothermal alteration is primarily an intense silicification of mafic volcanic rock s enveloping, or lying below, sulphidic zones. Chlorite and sericite alteration zones, including dalmatianite, are more locally developed and have a closer spatial relation to mineralization, as do epidote, calcite and calcic garnet.The structure is complex and cannot be explained by isoclinals folding; rather it reflects concurrent faulting, and extrusive and intrusive activity. Fault blocks were rotated and exhibit opposed facing; the original selling was possibly a submarine graben.Sulphidic zones occur within mafic and felsic volcanic rocks and at the interface between the two; there is thus potential for discovery throughout the known stratigraphic succession. Exploration conducted according to a volcanogenic model is advisable, particularly in the light of recent discoveries in similar rocks of the Amulet area."

"The paper deals with the impact of fleet imbalance on a deterministic evaluation of shovel fleet productive capacity. It shows that if the fleet imbalance is overlooked, then estimated fleet productive capacity will be overrated.The paper shows that fleet imbalance inflates utilization, and care must be taken when using such statistics which are derived from reported field-equipment-hours. It shows that the utilization must be deflated by a factor called 'balancing efficiency"" in order to estimate shovel productive capacity correctly. The paper also shows how fleet imbalance can be controlled by managing idle time or downtime in an actual operation.The technique used for measuring the balancing efficiency factor is based on statistical analysis of equipment utilization."
