El presente trabajo describe los resultados del estudio de ingeniería básica y de detalle para el abandono de los depósitos de Excélsior y Quiulacocha desarrollado por la empresa CESEL S. A, cuyo objetivo principal fue el diseño de las obras de cierre que garanticen la estabilidad hidrológica y geoquímica de los depósitos. En ese sentido, las obras de cierre diseñadas para que en un futuro los efluentes de agua ácida se reduzcan al mínimo y que su tratamiento sea en lo posible pasivo, son las siguientes: el encapsulamiento del depósito Excélsior mediante la impermeabilización del tope con geomembrana y de sus taludes con arcilla, la derivación de aguas subterráneas limpias en Champamarca a través de una pantalla impermeable para interceptar el agua subterránea del manantial Excélsior y descargarla al canal lateral de la margen izquierda y el drenaje superficial para descargar las escorrentías hacia los canales laterales. Asimismo, a fin de interceptar las aguas subterráneas que descienden desde el Club de Golf, y descargan en el lado Sur del depósito Excélsior, se implementará una pantalla mediante inyecciones de concreto.

El presente trabajo describe el proceso de la conductividad como herramienta de manejo de la aglomeración y la lixiviación en las pilas. En este sentido, dicha conductividad es un recurso necesario de manejo que garantiza la calidad de producto según los requerimientos hidrometalúrgicos. Para ello, se realizó un periodo de aplicación en la S.M. Cerro Verde, cual permitió eliminar las consecuencias de la deficiente aglomeración de entonces. De forma que el criterio de control operativo para el manejo de la aglomeración es mantener el valor de conductividad eléctrica del aglomerado en el rango de 150-180 mA,- aplicable al mineral muy alto o muy bajo en finos o arcillas- y el que garantiza un estándar y deseable calidad, sin segregación en las pilas, etc. En consecuencia, las operaciones mineras con mayores problemas en la permeabilidad de sus pilas por finos o arcillas en calidad indeseable, encuentran bajo este desarrollo, la solución para mejorar su aglomeración, así como el conocer la permeabilidad que tendrá la pila en emplazamiento, se pueda realizar las medidas correctivas.

Breaks and plugs can occur due to operator error, but are extremely rare. A review of cross-country slurry pipeline operations worldwide over the last 30 years shows that such a major event occurs, on average, once every five years. Under such a worstcase condition, the downtime rarely exceeds five days. Some pipelines have already been in operation over 30 years, the life span being a function of how well corrosion is kept in check."

El presente texto señala la implementación e integración del conjunto de las herramientas de software Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) e Ingeniería Civil para producir una herramienta potente para la planificación y seguimiento de minas a cielo abierto. El producto se denomina “Geos”, “ModGridCar” y “PlaExBan” y es un sistema del grupo ENDESA, que pertenece a ENDESA SERVICIOS representado en Sudamérica por SYNAPSIS y desarrollado para servicio interno de su minas. Para su ejecución se ha establecido una colaboración entre las empresas INTERGRAPH España como suministrador del software básico y responsable del desarrollo del módulo “Capas”, que selecciona la información a través de criterios personalizables, y SADIM (Sociedad Asturiana de Diversificación Minera, S.A.), como responsable del desarrollo de los módulos de modernización, que suministra la cubicación por calidades y bancadas, así como la validación de esta sistemática con casos reales. El resultado es un ejemplo de innovación en la integración de software comercial de movimientos en terrenos de ingeniería civil que garantiza el uso de productos ampliamente aceptados por diferentes mercados y posibilidades de desarrollo infinito comparado con las filosofías de sistemas propietarios y cerrados para minería.

At the present time, the mineral resources in the majority of underground mines are assessed and reported within a deterministic scenario. Irrespective of the techniques utilized for the estimation, the uncertainty in the reporting of resources is limited to their classification in categories such as Measured, Indicated and Inferred, according to a qualitative appreciation that depends on the abundance and quality of geologic information and sampling. Tonnages and grades reported within each category are treated as of fixed or variable precision depending on their classification; nevertheless, this degree of precision is not quantified, which makes it difficult for mine planning and can seriously affect the decisions that are taken on the resources of a deposit. The uncertainty in the resources comes from the lack of adequate geological information and grades, but this lack of information is very difficult to improve or supplement since the information-versus-cost curve increases exponentially

The paper point out some reasons why contract mining should not achieve the same success in Latin America as it has in Australia. In this sense, any reasons are: the size of operation, mining industry employees bonus scheme, the privatization of nationalized mining assets, general sales tax and the mining unions. Therefore, great deal depends on the attitude or "mindset" of a company's employees. lt is strongly my view that the attitude with which a contractor approaches a job will give rise to a superior mindset amongst its employees when comparad to those from most mining companies. The value of this cultural difference is significant and should never be underestimated. lmportantly, it doesnot only manifest itself in a more productive workplace: it is invariably the case in Australia that the safety achievements of contract miners are superior to those generally expected from the mining industry at large.

X-ray systems for elemental and phase determination have become more expensive and easier to use. In this sense, although the new systems offer more functions in the software for matrix correction, preconfigured optimized measurement parameters as well as wizards for method development, they will not perform for the applications if not used with the right sample preparation technique. Experience in this sector is not widely shared since it is a more empirical trial and error approach unique to the sample preparation equipment used. This paper outlined 3 case studies, where the sample preparation was crucial in the adaptation of the X-ray technique and it also illustrated that an analytical solution is not complete without the sample preparation, which ultimately governs the accuracy of reference materials and unknowns used. Comparing the necessary sample for XRF with the one used for ICP analysis clearly shows the time and cost savings.

El presente texto señala el uso del polímero denominado quitosan para el proceso de floculaciòn de pulpas minerales. Dicho biopolímero es un derivado de la quitina proveniente del caparazón de langostinos, el cual es desechado por la industria langostinera peruana. El estudio, se realizó con pulpas de mineral del tipo sulfurado que van desde los 20 hasta los 36 % de sólidos, donde los mejores resultados de floculación se obtuvieron en medio cercanos al neutro y con una concentración de 0,2 % de quitosan y 0,2 % de ácido clorhídrico. En consecuencia, el biopolímero con un floculante industrial produce velocidades similares de sedimentación y menor altura de lodos en la zona de compactación.

In the current difficult financial markets, only the best projects will advance to the next phases of development due to limited funding. Projects are consistently being evaluated by their initial Capital Expenditure (CapEx), Net Present Value (NPV), and Internal Rate of Return (IRR). Optimizing these parameters is the best way to gain market interest. Global Resource Engineering LTD (GRE) completed an optimization study for a silver-lead-zinc project in Peru. In this sense, the objective of the study was to minimize the project initial Capital Expenditure while maximizing the Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return. GRE accomplished this goal by completing a series of tradeoff studies for the project and combining them through the use of a multi-scenario deterministic model to find the most economic scenario.

The AntaKori Cu-Au-Ag Project in the Hualgayoc mining district, northern Peru is a complex system dominated by calcic Cu-Au-Ag skarn hosted in Cretaceous sedimentary units. The skarn system is partially overprinted by two younger epithermal systems: high sulphidation (HS) epithermal gold-copper-silver mineralization related to the adjacent Tantahuatay system, and intermediate sulphidation carbonate-base metal Au-Ag-Pb-Zn-Cu mineralization related to late stage rhyolite stocks and flow domes (Wilson, 2012).
