The present project sought alternatives for this material through the Mining Lab Beginnings program, which was developed by Nexa in partnership with Escalab to find solutions for the company's highly complex challenges. Through the program, several solutions were evaluated, with additives for the construction market being the most prominent. Tests were conducted to confirm the efficiency of jarosite in the mixture that composes this material. With successful laboratory tests, the technology was tested on an industrial scale, where it also demonstrated its technical and economic viability. The project is now moving into the operational phase, demonstrating that circular economy is the best solution for disposed tailings.

Column flotation technology was introduced to the market place about thirty ago years as a device capable of producing concentrates that were lower in impurities than those produced by other types of flotation machines. The ability to operate columns with significantly deeper froth beds and the provision of a froth washing system were the main reasons cited for the improved metallurgical performance. Column cells are now well accepted by the industry for cleaning applications, but there continues to be considerable skepticism about their use as roughers. There have been several documented cases of rougher installations which fell well short of predicted metallurgical performance. The reasons for the shortcomings vary from case to case, however they can be generally attributed to incorrect sizing, inappropriate application and or a lack of understanding of how column cells must be integrated into an existing plant or new project. Columns may not be the best choice for every application. In this sense, this paper discusses some of the important considerations that designers must take into account when contemplating the use of columns as roughers.

El presente texto revisa los métodos utilizados en las minas de tajo de abierto como son la perforación, disparo y seguridad y así mejorar los standars y el rendimiento futuro en la industria minera. Respecto al primer método empleado, se analizan los factores que afectan el rendimiento de brocas y cómo dicho factores varían, impidiendo la adaptación de prácticas universales de perforación. Asu vez, estos mismos permiten seleccionar el tipo de broca adecuado y mejorar el máximo rendimiento del mismo. En cuanto la voladura y los explosivos, se revisan las variables fundamentales que ejercen una influencia sobre el resultado de un disparo y así realizar un estudio comparativo de los agentes explosivos en uso, tratando de interpretar el mecanismo de la explosión y a la vez aplicarlo a las diferentes formaciones presentes en Cerro. Finalmente, se describe la organización del sistema de seguridad y las obligaciones de este comité en la industria minera.

In Mining, future projects could have 50/30 % less CAPEX/OPEX due to unmanned platforms, remote operations centers, and automated data collection lowering headcount. Underground mines are complex environments that require continuous control and monitoring actions in order to have a safe and efficient operation. At Nexa, the goal of achieving "zero harm" promotes the constant search for in its operational processes. Currently, there are manual activities that reduce the agility and precision when working with information from inside the mine, using mostly radio communication and management by sight of badges as an operational standard. This project was born in the context of increasing the operational safety of underground mines, bringing gains to the entire process involving the underground.

Para la aplicación de la instalación de un sistema de relleno hidráulico es necesario evaluar las funciones que el relleno debe contener y determinar si el material a usar cumpla con las funciones especificadas. En ese sentido, el objetivo del texto presenta una interpretación científica sobre tal método para especificar las funciones que el relleno deba cumplir y la metodología experimental adecuada que evalúe cuantitativamente a un relleno hidráulico.. Asimismo, se describen sus propiedades estructurales como la densidad relativa, reducción de volumen y estabilidad de tajeos contínuos, así como los métodos indirectos para inferir dichas propiedades y las posibles consecuencias secundarias que pueda generar el empleo de relleno hidráulico.

The global warming and the associated changes in climate variability would increase the risk to the mining industry in both magnitude and frequency. Consequently, extreme climate conditions would disturb the infrastructure, equipment and mine closure strategies in areas that have not consider this potential impact. To cope with these climate-associated risks is critical to understand the exposure and vulnerability with a local perspective. Having a clear knowledge of the current climate risks, the vulnerability of species, ecosystems, and ecological processes in the watershed where the mining operations are is essential to inform how patterns of risks and potential benefits are shifting due to climate change.

One of the important decisions in the development of new mining concentrator projects is the electric power supply for the project. Key decision factors often include the production of power on site versus purchase of power from the grid, ownership of the power supply infrastructure and the choice of generation technology. In this sense, the paper introduce a methodology that will allow the evaluation of the various alternatives to supply electric power to remote mining and mineral processing sites in a consistent and equitable manner taking into account economic and technical considerations and providing the same degree of availability and reliability. The most employed evaluation method consists of carrying out trade-off studies between the various alternatives but care should be exercised so that the alternatives analyzed offer comparable operational results.

Newmont Akyem mine in Ghana is committed with continuous improving results. A new environment where the price varies rapidly requires of better understanding of the deposits and the gold contained in the ore. This better understanding allows the mine planners to quick adjust and fast response to economic changes for gold price. Newmont Akyem Mine has approximately 9.4 million tons of ore in the stockpiles. Mine planers are still using average grade in all stockpiles to do a mine plan. The re-handled material is blended with the prime material coming from the mine.

The paper summarizes the results from geochemical orientation and project surveys in North and South America. The orientation surveys were designed to characterize the soil gas response over buried mineralization and compare soil gas geochemistry with other geochemical exploration techniques for overburden. In addition to successful tests in orientation surveys, soil gas geochemistry has been applied in large-scale exploration programs for gold, copper, and zinc. The studies includes results from several of these surveys, including the Crandon Zn-Cu massive sulfide deposit in Wisconsin, USA, and the Ruby Star skarn Cu deposit in Arizona, USA.

Glencore, in collaboration with Cascadia Scientific, conducted a study to improve the haul roads at the Antapaccay mining operation. The study utilized Cascadia's SmartRView platform for data collection, complemented by precise instrumentation installed on both Komatsu and Caterpillar haul trucks Antapaccay worked closely with Cascadia's Data Scientists,employing various statistical methods to analyze the data and identify potential enhancements to the haul road design. The study utilized Cascadia Scientific's heat mapping tool to identify road segments with high fuel intensity . As a result, four main road segments were identified for improvement.

Expanded use of plant information on the desktop is a standard tool for revenue improvement, cost reduction, and adherence to production constraints. Rapid changes in technology and human resources trends require the mining industry to plan carefully for new work camps. The abandonment of the “mining town” concept and rapid increases in the adoption of long distance commuting have intensified the need for improved planning and monitoring of existing and upcoming operations. New mines will have an increasing Aboriginal participation in their workforce and will mostly to be located in remote and in extreme weather conditions. In this sense, the intensification of the use of the commuting system has increased the need for improved planning and monitoring of upcoming operations. Given that mining development is experiencing a surge in activity in Canada, particularly in remote and northern locations significant number of individuals will get jobs that involve mine camp communities. Some employees will spend half of their working lives at the mine site for a period of time that can last up to 30 years. Even though investments have been made towards particularly high quality physical environments, mine camp policies, programs and employee quality of life in mine camps have not been studied in any depth.

Although flotation is widely used throughout the minerals industry, it is a relatively inefficient process. The economic benefits of improved operation are considerable. A multivariable level stabilising system has been developed to reduce the amount of fluctuation in flotation levels. It has been shown on several plants that the better level control leads to improved metallurgical performance. A level measurement based on conductivity is also described. The device provides some insight into the behaviour of the froth.

Borehole geophysical logging has developed and improved many measurements for mining exploration in the past decade. Imaging tools such as the acoustic and optical televiewer are now being used to collect real time, high resolution, oriented fracture and bedding data. Drill holes 100’s of meters deep can be processed very quickly using automated structure picking software and borehole core samples can be digitally logged instead of using paper and pencil.

The paper point out the opportunities for improved performance from Mine to Product using a range of technologies developed at the JKMRC. There are several underlying themes: Readily available computing power makes possible instrument like SPLIT, JKFrothCam and the JK/FEI Mineral Liberation Analyser, a large research project is underway applying acoustic monitoring techniques to large mills with the object being to more accurately monitor total mill load and ball load on-line. Taking advantage of these opportunities will require detailed ore characterization, good models and accurate measurement of mine and plant performance.
