The escalation in micro-computer power during the past ten years has been instrumental in the realization of operations research and other mine planning tools as a practical mine design tool. Present day utilization of computer techniques varies across a wide spectrum of activities: from operations research to aid mine management through payroll processing to mine design, monitoring and control. With the advances in computers, increasing automation and robotization in mining, operations research techniques are being used in modeling and evaluation. The trend discernable in mine planning is increasing use of operations research models. In the next ten to fifteen years, nanotechnology will enter in our lives in a big way. There are several methods being pursued for information processing at the nanoscale. The mineral industry management in the 21st century will be faced with several new challenges and opportunities from these advances in the mineral industry applications, data and information acquisition and transmission technology

Mineral deposits with large data uses different block dimensions in Long term planning (LTP), short term planning (STP), and ore control (OC). Using applications can Re-block, Krige, Compute variable, Compute Route, etc. necessary block models with multiple dimensions can be created. For instance, disseminated deposits require granular ore control block model because mineralization can be unpredictable. Then different block size must be created for the ore control activity and different block size must be shaped individually in LTP, STP, and OC.

For mine closure, the prospect of treating mine drainage in near-perpetuity can be onerous – especially when flow rates are high. One closure option is to construct tunnel plugs within the adits to flood the mine and reduce discharge volumes. Flooding reduces oxygen access within the mine and hence ARD potential. It also reduces hydraulic gradients such that uncontaminated groundwater is not drawn toward open, acid-generating areas of the mine/orebody. Evaluation of the technical and economic feasibility of permanently sealing mine tunnels necessitates detailed hydrogeological and geotechnical investigations. The capital costs associated with tunnel plugs may be relatively high, and there are ongoing maintenance requirements, risk of significant leakage and even risk of catastrophic failure if improperly designed or constructed. In this sense, the paper point put the means available for assessing the liabilities associated with adits at project start up, and the options available for closure of existing adits to reduce long-term environmental liabilities.

Much work in the recent years has focused on identifying the characteristics of igneous rocks associated with porphyry Cu deposit, and thus to identify potential fertility indices that can be used in an exploration context. These avenues include a combination of lithogeochemistry (e.g. Sr/Y ratios) and mineral (e.g. zircon and apatite) trace element geochemistry. Understanding what these fertility indices tell the geologist about magmatic processes is important to their application in a successful exploration program.

Breaks and plugs can occur due to operator error, but are extremely rare. A review of cross-country slurry pipeline operations worldwide over the last 30 years shows that such a major event occurs, on average, once every five years. Under such a worstcase condition, the downtime rarely exceeds five days. Some pipelines have already been in operation over 30 years, the life span being a function of how well corrosion is kept in check."

X-ray systems for elemental and phase determination have become more expensive and easier to use. In this sense, although the new systems offer more functions in the software for matrix correction, preconfigured optimized measurement parameters as well as wizards for method development, they will not perform for the applications if not used with the right sample preparation technique. Experience in this sector is not widely shared since it is a more empirical trial and error approach unique to the sample preparation equipment used. This paper outlined 3 case studies, where the sample preparation was crucial in the adaptation of the X-ray technique and it also illustrated that an analytical solution is not complete without the sample preparation, which ultimately governs the accuracy of reference materials and unknowns used. Comparing the necessary sample for XRF with the one used for ICP analysis clearly shows the time and cost savings.

Kalegar Project is a copper porphyry system with gold-copper structures. The system is located in southeastern Iran, about 170Km NW of Zahedan city, capital of Sistan and Baluchistan Province. The Project is near the highly deformed and tectonized Lut Block and flysch zone. This type of mineralization is related to regional tensional structures and a pull apart basin. Hydrothermal alteration extends (4.5km x 1km), with an EW tendency. The alteration is predominantly moderate silica-clay with restricted silica pyrophyllite alteration and it is related to ‘B’ banded quartz veinlets. These alterations occur in a dacitic unit, heterolithic breccia sequences and early porphyritic andesite. It may be related to a postulated productive porphyry system at depth.

The Alpala porphyry copper-gold deposit is a recent discovery located in the Imbabura Province of northwestern Ecuador. The drilling of seventeen diamond core holes over a 900 m by 400 m area has defined a northwesterly-trending, steeply northeast-dipping dike-stock complex of diorite to quartz diorite that exceeds 1300 m in height. This intrusive complex is hosted by a sequence of andesitic volcaniclastic rocks and lavas. The host-rocks are interpreted to be part of the Paleocene to Late Eocene Macuchi Formation (BGS-CODIGEM, 1997; Cruz, 2007). The best drill intercept to date is 1312 m at 0.67 % Cu and 0.63 g/t Au from 128 m depth in CSD-15-012, which includes 576 m at 1.03 % Cu and 1.19 g/t Au.

El método de explotación por Bench and Fill tiene importantes ventajas como menores costos y mejores rentabilidades. Asimismo, entre los factores que caracterizan a este método son la dilución y la fragmentación con respecto a otros métodos convencionales como corte y relleno, shrinkage, cámaras y pilares, etc. Es por ello, que se le debe dar una importancia especial al control de la dilución y fragmentación, tomando en consideración variables generadas en la voladura. Normalmente estos controles se efectúan durante la voladura en Bench and Fill, generalizando los resultados para un nivel completo los cuales están sujetos a prueba y error, sin considerar ciertas características del macizo en diferentes zonas de ese nivel.

The Lepanto and Victoria epithermal deposits contain in excess of 8 Moz Au, associated with massive enargite-cemented breccia and quartz-carbonate-base metal veins, respectively. The two deposits are separated by 500 m, but the latter was not discovered until the former was nearly mined out. The sulfid assemblages of these adjacent deposits are characterized by high- and intermediate-sulfidation states, respectively. However, gold was introduced after enargite at Lepanto, associated with an assemblage that is similar to that of the Victoria ore. An even larger gold resource is present in similar to that of the Victoria ore. An even larger gold resource is present in the Far Southeast porphyry Cu-Au deposit, the top of which lies 200-400 m beneath and adjacent to these two epithermal deposits.
