High Pressure Grinding Roll (HPGR) plays a major role in increasing specific surface area of iron ore concentrate for producing pellet feed. HPGR grinding mechanism implies that material be compressed between the two rolls, therefore layer of material must be able to resist required pressure for achieving suitable grinding conditions. In this study for determining a simple relationship between material pressure resistance ability and HPGR main design parameters, piston press tests were performed on different iron ore concentrate samples along with HPGR Blaine increasing tests. Piston press tests results showed that by decreasing moisture content, material pressure resistance increased and in constant moisture content this parameter will change based on material specifications. HPGR Blaine increasing tests results showed that by decreasing moisture content, HPGR specific throughput and working gap increased and in constant moisture content this parameter will change based on material specifications. For all of the studied samples at worst condition, we got the results including: HPGR delta gap equal to zero, specific throughput lower than 200 ts/hm3.According to the tests results, HPGR Applicability Index (HAI) can be introduced at four different class types from 1 (weak) to 4 (excellent). This index determines achievable specific throughput and possibility of using HPGR according to material specifications, i.e. for HAI 1-4 the pressure resistance is <90, 90 to<125, 125 to <150 and = 150 bar, respectively. Similarly for HAI 1-4 specific throughput is <200, =200, =220 and =250, respectively. So based on design moisture content, if concentrate HAI is 3 or 4, HPGR is a correct choice. For HAI 2, HPGR can also be used. But for a material with HAI equal to 1, HPGR is not a good solution. As a result in order to apply HPGR for HAI 1, material condition such as moisture or slime content should be decreased.

"In the Dongri Buzurg Manganese Mine of M/s Manganese Ore (India) Ltd., high grade lumpy manganese ore required for iron and steel industries is produced through multi-stage crushing and screening. This has resulted in accumulation of 50,000 tonnes of low grade fines over the years. This production of such fines is still going on. The fines create environmental problems, like air and water pollution and siltation in adjoining fields. Besides containing lot of manganese values, they occupy large space which is very scare in mining area.The Indian Bureau of Mines under one of its statutory functions has suggested the company to explore the possibility of recovery of additional values under conservation and environmental aspects. Hence the company has sponsored a bulk sample for beneficiation studies in the Modern Mineral Processing Laboratory and Pilot Plant of Indian Bureau of Mines at Nagpur, India. The main manganese minerals present in these mine rejects have been identified as pyrolusite and psilomelane. The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of evolving a suitable beneficiation flowsheet to obtain manganese concentrates assaying over 72% MnO2 to be used as raw material for the manufacture of dry cell batteries.The sample/material was subjected to characterisation studies in terms of chemical analysis, granulometry and mineralogical compositions. Based on these characterisation studies, the beneficiation process developed comprised of desliming, jigging and low intensity magnetic separation mainly to reject quartz, silicates and jacobsite. The manganese concentrate thus produced assayed 70.2% MnO2 with MnO2 recovery of 78% and weight per cent yield of 63.5. This natural concentrate could be mixed with the electrolytic manganese dioxide produced by the company and this blend can thus be used as a raw material for the manufacture of dry cell batteries by the end users. The paper deals with the details of test work carried out in evolving the process flowsheet."

"Battery grade Mn ore is not found in India except in Dongri-Buzurg Mine, Dist. Bhandara, Maharashtra. The mine located in central India is operated by a premier company viz. Manganese Ore India Ltd., under Central Government Public Sector Undertaking. The company is not selling the product as battery grade material but instead primarily catering to the needs of the iron and steel industry in the country. However, a part of the ore is being used in-house for the production of electrolytic manganese-dioxide in their EMD plant, which is located near the mine.The production of lumpy ore for steel industries generated through multi-stage crushing and screening has resulted in accumulation of about 50,000 tonnes of low grade fines over the year, which contain low of Mn values. Further, the generation of fines is still on going process due to the production of lumpy ores. These fines are stacked in the form of unconsolidated dumps, which create environmental problems like air and water pollution and siltation in the adjoining fields. Besides they are occupying large space, which is scarce in this mining area. The Indian Bureau of Mines under one of its statutory functions has suggested the company to explore the possibility of recovery of additional values under conservation and environmental aspects. Enhanced granulation of UASB granules was tested on pilot scale with two different test reactors (about 5 litres capacity each). Sludge from a local sewage works was used, with peach cannery effluent as carbon source. Cyclic motion of the reactor contents, and a daily replenishment of feed material create the necessary stress conditions for enhanced growth. Sizable granules, bigger than 0.5 mm, were produced within 20 days. Of the two reactors tested, the reactor equipped with a horizontal agitation shaft proved more effective.

"Some twenty years ago, during construction of flotation in the “Veliki Krivelj” copper and non-metallic mine Bor, a computer supported system for remote controle of technological process was installed. Nowadays, the major part of equipment of this system is worn-out and technically old-fashioned. Having this in mind a decision was made to design a new computer supported information-management system for Flotation. The paper presents a concept and features of project solutions.For the requirements of remote monitoring and management of technological process in Flotation of “Veliki Krivelj”, Copper and non-metallic minerals mine in Bor, Yugoslavia (hereinafter: CNM Bor), a measuring-regulation equipment was implemented and a computer control system, adjusted for that time, built some twenty years ago. The major part of this equipment is today worn out and technically out of date.Having estimated that production and business activities could hardly be more efficient, operative and successful on one hand, and available mineral and other resources rationally exploited, the CNM Bor made a decision in 1999 to improve information-management function of Flotation. The idea was that the set task be realized through development and introduction into practice up-to-date integrated and computer-supported production-business information-management system. The first logic step in completion of this task refers to engineering-creative determination of information management system (hereinafter: IMS), namely to project elaboration.When considering the real system from technical, technological, organization, monitoring-management, logistic and business aspects, the Project on IMS of Flotation, should provide a rational, modern and, for the real system conditions, complete solution. The Project solutions should be based on the most recent knowledge from computer and measuring-regulation technics as well as from CIM concept (Computer Integrated Manufacturing)."

"The appearance of the precise equipment for analysis of results of the laboratory tests with using of the computer processing allows raising accuracy of the estimation of the expected indexes of the mineral processing. Certainly, laboratory tests will not be able to substitute completely industrial ones, but allow reducing the amounts of the industrial tests, that vastly reduces the cost of technological forecast and preparation of data for projection.Calculation of the potential indexes of mineral technology (mass yields and the metal content in products) is fulfilled on the base of results of measurements of the mineralogical liberation parameters using special formulas.The quality of the concentrate ßc = a + ?l • ?s • ?i (ßt - a) can be achieved on a level of the theoretical metal content of a mineral - ßt only if coefficients of mineral processing, of liberation ?l and selectivity ?s of grinding, effectiveness of separation, will reach 1 (a - metal content of the row ore).Increase ?l by overgrinding automatically decrease ?s, and only by destroying of particles of ore along surfaces of accreting of minerals (?i = 1) and when values of all three coefficients will aim to 1, then ßc ? ßt.The degree of liberation of the useful mineral is the ratio of mass of free grains of the useful mineral in the product to general mass of the same mineral in this product. The factor of the liberation, which is defined by curves of dressability by angle of slop of the curve of the elementary faction - ?, is Kr=1 – tga. Kr changes from 0 to 1 when a changes from 45o to 0o. The liberation is reached by grinding of the material, although degree of the liberation, as a rule, is lower than the degree of the grinding."

The dry coal preparation technology based on air dense medium fluidized bed is an innovative dry highly efficient technology of coal by introducing fluidization technology into beneficiation.. A modularized 40-60 tones/hr system (KZX-40) with an air dense medium fluidized bed separator was established. The construction cost of the modularized system is only 1/3 of the traditional wet heavy-medium coal preparation plant construction cost with the same capacity, and the consumption of dense medium can be reduced by 50%-60%. The footprint and volume of the system are decreased by 75% and by 89.81%, respectively. These facts show the improved intensity, efficiency and economy of modularized coal preparation technique. The modularized KZX-40 system can be used to separated 50-6 mm coal over a separation density range of 1.3-2.2g/cm3 depending on the variation of <1mm fine coal content. The separation efficiency of the system was investigated at low and high separation densities by float-sink experiments. The partition curve of the products at low separation density shows that the separation density (d) is 1.33g/cm3, and the probable error (E) value is 0.05g/cm3. Using 50-6mm coal with an ash content of 55.35% as feedstock, at a high separation density of 1.61g/cm3, the clean coal with an ash content of 14.67% and the tailing with an ash content of 71.26% are produced with an E value of 0.06g/cm3. It is clear that the modularized KZX-40 system is suitable for separating 50-6mm coal effectively. During the dry coal preparation process, the dust is removed by the bag collector and recycled back into the separator. So the system has the advantages to work without environmental pollution and water. The modularized system greatly reduces the construction and operating costs and decreases the area and volume required, compared with wet dense medium system. "The mineralogical and physico-chemical characteristics of a polymetallic sample from a mine of West Serbia suggest that it can be classified as a SEDEX type of ore. Those ores contain multiple value components, being inter-dispersed as fine grained aggregates. This prevents concentration by gravity or flotation concentration processes. Mineralogically, the valuable metals (Cu;Zn;Pb;Au and Ag) occur as pyrite, sphalerite, galena, tetrahedrite, chalcopyrite, covellite, arsenopyrite, and non-metallic minerals (barite, and waste minerals). Novel technologies are under development within this project for the recovery of all valuable metals from this very complex material. The work comprises the further treatment of solid residue obtained after Cu and Zn extraction by bioleaching, for the subsequent recovery of Pb and the precious metals Ag and Au. The residue is first treated with a saturated sodium chloride solution, whereupon a chloride solution of lead (NaPbCl3) is obtained. From the chloride solution, lead was deposited in the form of lead carbonate, followed by reductive melting, whereupon lead anode was obtained. Electrolytic refining of the lead anode, using a solution of PbCO3 in methane sulphonic acid (MSA-Methanesulfonic acid, min 99.5% CH4O3S, density 1.48 kg/dm3, Manufacturer: Carl Roth) as an electrolyte, yielded refined lead cathode. It should be noted that, after precipitation and separation of lead carbonate, the sodium chloride solution is restored to its original composition by the addition of make-up reagents and returned for another lead-sulfate leaching cycle. The solid residue obtained after leaching lead-sulphate, is leached in thiosulphate solution, with the addition of an activator, a catalyst and lixiviant for gold, to yield a thiosulphate solution of gold and silver. Since the content of gold and silver in solution is low (below 1 mg/dm3), they are first electrolytically concentrated on steel cathode and then refined to pure metals using well-known chemical methods. Note that, after the electrolytic separation of gold and silver, thiosulphate solution is recycled to the leaching step."

"The study provides the comparative analysis of the performance of water only cyclones and hydrocyclone for iron ore fines processing at Joda Iron ore processing plant, Tata Steel. Joda iron ore deposits have higher proportion of kaolinite in the finer fractions and are meant to be separated with cyclones. The iron processing flowsheet of Joda comprises of water only cyclone for beneficiation of iron ore fines. Water only cyclones are used for the beneficiation of fines in the iron ore processing industry and have a larger cone angle compared to that of conventional hydrocyclones to enhance the density effect in the separation. They are aimed to achieve better product quality of underflow however; the desired result could not be achieved at the Joda processing plant. The water only cyclones were operating at the corrected cut-size of about 60 micron with an imperfection of 0.40 and water split to underflow was approximately 10%. The overall Fe recovery from the water only cyclones were 60%. Since the quality of fines produced from the water only cyclone couldn’t be improved, an attempt was made to process the fraction in the conventional hydrocyclone to achieve the desired product quality. The trial results indicated better product quality with the Fe recovery of 72% at corrected cut-size of 70 microns and imperfection of around 0.29. In view of above results it was recommended to replace the water only cyclones with hydrocyclones to achieve higher product quality of about 60% Fe content.INTRODUCTION Water only cyclones were installed at wet plant, Joda to process the classifier fines where the cyclone underflow is considered as concentrate and overflow is discarded as slime. Because of the lower capacity of the cyclones 30% of the classifier overflow was bypassed directly to thickener. Apart from this the quality of fines produced from the water only cyclone couldn’t be improved further hence an attempt was made to process the fraction in the conventional hydrocyclone to achieve the desired product quality and quantity. Hydrocyclone was installed at Joda after replacing stub-cyclone and came into operation on 23rd Aug’ 2017.The process variables of water only cyclones and hydrocyclones are tabulated below:"

"For the requirements of the mining company “Rudnik-Rudnik”, engaged in undergr-ound exploitation of polymetallic ore and lead, zinc and copper concentrates production, the Department of Computer Application of the Faculty of Mining and Geology, University of Belgrade, designed a computer supported and integrated information-management system. This paper presents a concept of this system covering both monitoring and management of production in ""Rudnik-Rudnik"".The ""Rudnik"" Rudnik, Yugoslavia is a mining company, engaged in underground exploitation of polymetallic ore and production of ore, zinc and copper concentrate as well as other metals such as silver, bismuth and cadmium. This mining company runs stable business activities and undergoes a permanent growth of valuable production volume.The basic characteristics of production-technical system of ""Rudnik"" company are: uniform and up-todate technical-technological solutions: linking of production chain from underground exploitation of ore to flotation, namely final product - concentrate of lead, zinc and copper; complete mechanization of production; relatively low level of computer technics implementation; namely, ununiformed implementation of different application of computer-supported information technologies in production and business activities of the Company.These are the assumptions on the basis of which the management of the Company made a decision, in 1999, to upgrade information-management functions through development and application of modern integrated and computer-supported production-business information-management system (hereinafter: IMS, namely IMS Rudnik). The more efficient production and use of mineral resources is a major objective of our sustainability efforts. Resource characterization is a critical component for optimization of the mine-to-mill process, including innovative processing for sustainable growth. Such characterization is now referred to as geometallurgy, with advanced instrumentation including, for example, particle size analysis, XRF, XRD, NIR, automated SEM/EDAX analysis (QEMSCAN, MLA), and high resolution X-ray micro tomography. Geometallurgical information is important for exploration, deposit evaluation; mine planning, design and analysis of separation processes, etc. Characterization of mineral processing particles in 3D is now possible using high resolution X-ray micro tomography (HRXMT), and such HRXMT systems have been installed at several laboratories around the world. After review of principles, the features of such HRXMT analyses are presented including size/shape, damage state, mineral phase identification, and evaluation/isolation of trace mineral particles. With new algorithms for image analysis, quantitative data treatment is possible for construction of liberation-limited grade/recovery curves, for the determination of specific crack surface area, and for complex texture analysis including grain exposure. Finally, new tomographic characterization possibilities are discussed to provide the foundation for the development of advanced, innovative processing strategies for sustainable growth. Laboratory and pilot-plant testing using a sample of gold-bearing semi-oxidized ore from a Russian deposit followed by a flow sheet and reagent flotation mode development to design a plant was carried out in IRGIREDMET in 2009-2010. According to the developed flow sheet low alkaline flotation conditions are recommended in order to activate the surface of sulfides. The pH lowering from natural (7.5-8.0) to optimal (4.6-4.8) value using sulfuric acid provides for an increase in gold recovery. Before CIL, a final flotation concentrate is pretreated using pressure oxidation. It was found that the use of recycled solutions from pressure liberation in order to create acidic conditions for flotation instead of sulfuric acid during pilot-plant testing is recommended. The flow sheet offers the detoxification of remaining pressure oxidation solutions together with the flotation tailings. The carbonates presented in the tailings significantly reduce the consumption of lime for detoxification and allows for the use of two tailings dams instead of three. The first is used for the tailings of flotation and pressure oxidation recycled solutions, which were detoxified together. The second tailings dam is used for detoxified cyanidation cakes of the flotation concentrate. It was found during pilot-plant testing that flotation under natural and acidic conditions provides for 88.9 percent and 93 percent gold recovery, respectively. 4.1Au percent increase recovery was achieved due to the reduction of gold losses with flotation tailings and better quality of concentrates.

"Bubble-mineral complexes could be formatted by an attaching of hydrophobic particles to the surface of air bubbles or by an evolution of bubbles from solution onto hydrophobic surfaces. Measurements of contact angles, detachment forces (DF), induction times (IT), evolution pressures (EP) and flotation recoveries (FR) for the studying of minerals wettability at various pH and electrochemical potentials were used. An analysis of the obtained IT results show that a process of bubble attachment to a mineral surface is a rather slow one and it will scarcely be enough for bubble-mineral complex formation under the conditions of real flotation.The ranges of adhesion potentials obtained by DF measurements, Figure 1, correlate with the data of floatability-potential for pyrite. The ranges of adhesion potentials obtained by DF measurements for galena (-1 ÷0.2V) and chalcocite (-0.5÷1.2V) correlate with the potential ranges of floatability for galena (<0.2V) and chalcocite (>-0.4V). An increase of the DF and the cathodic limit of the adhesion potential with increasing length of the hydrocarbon chain were observed. EP-pH curves for sulfides are a mirror-like to the DF-pH curves, Figure 2. Structure of solid-liquid and liquid-gas borders has a determinative importance for formation of bubble-mineral complexes and subsequently flotation results. Under vacuum on the mineral surface there are produced micro bubbles and preferably they will be appeared on the hydrophobic sites. Water structure breaks near a hydrophobic surface facilitate water mass destruction and formation of gaseous phase embryos under decompression in the impeller zone. It simultaneously reduces a probability of produced micro bubbles dissolution as a result of pressure increasing owing to constant fluctuation of liquid densities into impeller zone. Comparison of Taggart’s evaluation of the suction behind blades of the impeller of an agitation-froth machine and ABEP data on galena, Figure, shows that gas evolution will be observed in the range of 1300-2700 revolutions of impeller per minute for hydrophobic and hydrophilic surfaces successively."

"In deriving flotation kinetic models, the froth phase was, until recently, either ignored or treated entirely empirically. The behaviour of the froth is now known to be usually important and sometimes dominant in determining flotation performance. Hence numerous methods have been developed for sampling the flotation froths and models incorporating the effects of the froth behaviour have been derived.Such models will assist in determining more accurate estimations of the kinetic parameters utilised in the designing of industrial scale plants thus reducing the incurred costs of over designing. In particular, improved models for batch tests may lead to more effective use of batch testwork for prediction of continuous plant behaviour. A more detailed model is thus proposed which allows for a more realistic approach to the flow distribution in the froth phase.PROPOSED MODELThe batch flotation process is split into two stages in time, namely before the froth begins to overflow and after. The assumptions made, and hence the calculations, are different for each stage.The air enters the slurry at t=0 and generates froth. The superficial velocity of the air through the cell is given by go. It is assumed that the rate of froth breakage (gb) is constant during the first stage. The froth rises with a uniform net velocity throughout the cell and no mixing is assumed to occur.After the froth begins to overflow, the velocity distribution of the gas is modeled by segmenting the froth phase as shown in Figure 1. A model for bubble breakage rate or measurements of froth velocity allows one to obtain the volumetric rate of concentrate froth production. The entrained water and associated particles and a drop-back mechanism are also allowed for in the model."

The air dense medium fluidized bed separator which has been developed for the dry beneficiation of coal is recognized as a low cost and high efficiency process. The success of this separator for beneficiating any specific coal, alone or in combination with other processing methods, mostly depends on the characteristics of run-of-mine coal. Therefore, a thorough knowledge of the mineralogical composition and washability characteristics of representative coal sample is highly essential for correctly and effectively assess the suitability of this process. Available literature conforms that although the characteristics of Indian non-coking coals are well known, the correlations between the particle compositions with its density are entirely lacking. In the present study the washability, proximate, ultimate and elemental analysis was conducted for four typical Indian high-ash non-coking coals and their elemental compositions were well correlated with the specific gravity of coal. The results obtained in this study provide some essential information to the coal-processing engineer for efficiently operate and control the process. Furthermore, the beneficiation potential of air dense medium fluidized bed was experimentally evaluated and compared with the results obtained from an operating wet beneficiation plant. Based on this comparative study the air dense medium fluidized bed is established to be a possible alternative to the conventional wet beneficiation method for beneficiating Indian coals with Ep values in the range of 0.03 to 0.06

In general, x-ray computed tomographic (CT) techniques are able to provide 3D images of the internal structure of opaque materials in a nondestructive manner. The unique cone beam geometry allows acquisition of all 2D projections with only one rotation of the sample thus providing for fast data acquisition and better x-ray utilization, as a complete 2-D detector array receives the cone-shaped flux of rays. Thus, an isotropic 3D volume can be reconstructed without the mechanical translation and the stacking of sequential slices as is the case for more conventional CT scanners. In this regard, a state-of-theart, custom designed x-ray microtomography facility to provide very detailed 3D spatial analysis of multiphase particles has been installed and is in operation at the University of Utah. The reconstructed 3D tomographic volume allows for an adjustable spatial resolution from 5 to 20 microns for sample dimensions from 10 to 40 mm in diameter, respectively. For example, a packed bed of coal particles is shown below in which different crystalline froms of pyrite are distinguished in 3D.

"For the traditional principle of flotation cell design, or in the perspective of some researchers, the mixing effect of impeller for flotation cell is not only to suspend the particles off the bottom, but also to mix slurry well to achieve a uniform system. But for some special processing conditions, the depth profile of slurry concentration and particle size demonstrates an obvious difference. In the part around of the impeller in the cell, the slurry concentration is much higher than the part below the lip.For the vanadium titano-magnetite flotation process, distinguished with high concentration and large coarse particle size fraction, even though the concentration is very high, it can reach good gas dispersion, which is a fundamental principle for flotation cell design and application. The gas dispersion is not a challenge in the high slurry concentration environment, not only in the vertical direction, but in the cross section. Different levels (the distance from the lip is 400mm, 700mm, 1200mm, 1700mm, 2200mm, 2700mm) slurry in the flotation cell is sampled and analyzed. The slurry concentration of the 3 levels(1700mm, 2200mm, 2700mm) is about 55%, but the slurry concentration decreases from 55% to 25% sharply towards the lip.Therefore, a new understanding and viewpoint is presented, that the uniform system of slurry is not always reasonable for all of the flotation process. For some special process, if the coarse particles are needed to agitated well and transported to the upper cell, the quiescent zone in the upper cell will be destroyed and enhance the detachment probability for the coarse particles. The difference of slurry concentration and particle size fraction benefits the air dispersion and coarse mineral particles recovery.1.INTRODUCTIONNowadays, flotation is the most widely used separation process in the mineral processing industry. "From a metallurgical point of view, acid leaching of oxide zone copper ore is considered in the first place in terms of ore grade, whole rock mineralogy, rock granulometry, crushed aggregate size distribution, porosity, permeability and corresponding fluid flow characteristics. Despite exhaustive physicochemical and general mineralogical characterization, drops in copper recovery occur and are often attributed to and “unquantified mineralogical misbehaviour” of the gangue phases. This study establishes an experimental link to monitor and quantify the chemical interaction of chrysocolla, malachite and atacamite with reactive gangue phases.Laboratory-scale sulphuric acid (15%) leaching in small columns is carried out using a synthetic rock composed of 57% quartz, 1% ore phase, and 42% reactive gangue. Gangue phases were selected to represent mineralogy found in argillic, advanced argillic, and propylitic alteration zones. Exotic copper ores of Codelco Norte (in particular Mina Sur) served as model for the modal distribution of mineral phases. Natural reactive gangue phases (<200 Tyler mesh) were chosen as pure as possible: Saz-1 and Swy-1 montmorillonites, KGa-1B and KGa-2 kaolinites (all Clay Mineral Society, USA, Source Clays) Nau-2 nontronite, Imt-1 illite (both Clay Mineral Society Special Clays) and Chilean mordenite, laumontite and bentonite. Ore phases are: mineraloid chrysocolla from Radomiro Tomic (Codelco Norte), reagent grade malachite and a purpose synthesized atacamite-paratacamite mixture. Complete chemical, physicochemical and mineralogical characterizations were carried out for ore and gangue phases.The following observations hold for samples with and without mineralization: Smectite-rich gangue increased up to 75% in volume. Once wet, air-filled vesicles formed due to the rapid sealing effect of overlying smectite in the column. No volume change occurred for illite, mordenite and kaolinite gangues. For kaolinite mixtures acid puddles formed on top of the column during initial leaching due to the delamination and barrier formation of this phyllosilicate. Fluid recovery was <60% for expandable phases and reached up to 80% for non-expandable mixtures. These observations confirm the very low extractions obtained in ore with a combined smectite – kaolinite gangue for Mina Sur. The most important mineralogical changes observed in the solid residues are: reduction of basal smectite phase reflections (XRD), and slight loss of illite intensities. This is also reflected in the major element composition of the residues, which demonstrate a loss of Mg, Mn, Ca, Na, K followed by Fe, Al and Si; with their proportions depending on the starting materials. Furthermore, alunogen and meta-alunogen formed, with related phases coquimbite (illite) and godichite (nontronite) also depending on gangue mineral chemistry. For laumontite samples, meta-alunogen and alunogen precipitated from the leachate."

This paper intends to demonstrate the applicability of tools for advanced process control and online particle size image analysis in crushing and autogenous grinding circuits. In a crushing plant, cameras are installed in the conveyor belts of the circuit products. The vision system continuously processes the acquired images and thus obtains the variation of the size distribution curve. From these measurements, the advanced control system can operate, for example, at the opening of the crusher, in order to keep the P80 in the desired range. In addition, through the power information and level of the crusher&apos;s chamber, it is possible to increase the capacity of the crushing circuit. If the crusher is not equipped with an automatic opening adjustment, a warning may be issued to the operator to provide this setting manually. In mineral processes that use autogenous and semi-autogenous grinding for fragmentation, obtaining online F80 through the vision system allows for manipulating the parameters of rotation speed and solids concentration, through which the amount of material at the critical particle size that is produced can be controlled. In addition, the noise produced in the mill can be measured and controlled. Thus, it is possible to prevent breaches and to optimise the mill capacity for grinding. Image analysis combined with an expert system that translates this information and acts to seek the most appropriate particle size distribution, brings greater stability to the process optimising the capacity of the equipment, which allows for significant gains in production.

In this apparatus closed sized particles are placed in a container and then fluidized by passing water through the load of particles. Water flow is adjusted to deposit particles in one or more layers depending on the specific gravity of each of the particles, after which the deposited particles are separated in portions of different specific gravity. The obtained portions represent different ore content of the closed sized fraction. The process is repeated for all other size fractions to generate washability curve of the feed. Three different types of iron ores and one coal sample are tested in this equipment. The theoretical yield-grade curve generated for iron ore feed is unique in absence of any such practice for ore minerals. Similar curve is generated for coal and it is compared with washability curve, an existing practice followed worldwide. This comparison validates the performance of the process and the equipment.
