"The REFLUX™ Classifier (RC™) consists of a fluidized bed housing, with a system of parallel inclined channels above. This system performs a simultaneous gravity separation and desliming of the feed material, utilising the inclined channels in order to retain the relatively fine dense particles. These particles promote the formation of an autogenous dense medium within the fluidized bed. Relatively large, low density particles are displaced from the fluidized bed and conveyed upwards through the inclined channels reporting to the overflow with other finer particles. Given the hydrodynamic role of both the particle size and density in determining the particle transport through a water based suspension, all gravity separators operate over a limited size range. In the case of the REFLUX™ Classifier, efficient separations can be produced across a very broad size range, from nearly 10 mm down to 10 m, however, for a given application the size range is much more limited. This study was concerned with the processing of dense minerals over a broad size range, and the need for multistage processing. Here the overflow from the first stage cascades to the second stage, incorporating coarse gangue rejection. This approach is shown to deliver remarkably high grades and recovery.INTRODUCTION The performance of the REFLUXTM Classifier (RC™) in beneficiating fine coal is well documented (Galvin, 2012). Although the technology can be applied to relatively fine particles below 0.1 mm, or coarser particles below 2.0 mm or even 8.0 mm (Galvin et al., 2010), in each case the technology is applicable to limited particle size ranges. In coal preparation, the most common size range is 0.25 to 2.0 mm, covering an eight-fold range in the particle diameter. Coal has a relatively low density, typically below 1600 kg/m3, with a significant portion below 1400 kg/m3. In water, the buoyant density difference (~ 400 kg/m3) is therefore low compared to that of gangue minerals (1600 kg/m3) by a factor of 4, enhancing the potential for separation. Thus, in coal preparation, the technology can be applied over a commensurately broader size range, typically up to eight-fold."

Reutilization of waste printed circuit boards (PCB) can not only prevent potential environmental pollution, but also achieve recycling of secondary resources. Study on recycling of discarded PCB belongs to the front edge of environmental pollution prevention and resource recycling. In order to effectively crushing waste PCB, and solve the problem of secondary pollution of fugitive odor and dust during the crushing process, a wet impacting crusher was adopted to achieve comminution liberation of PCB in water medium. 96.79% of the crushed yield was distributed in ?2mm, and metal took 97.18% in this grade of production. Size distribution of PCB particles was characterized double peaks at the sizes of ?1+0.5mm and ?0.074mm. A double Rosin-Rammler function, is called DRR function, is put forward to describe the size distribution of PCB particles. The DRR function of cumulative weight percentage oversize of PCB was non-liner fitted by self-defining DRR function of the Origin 7.0. The evaluation indexes of the fitting results are the correlation coefficients R2 of 0.9994 and residual E of 0.18671, those show that DRR function is perfectly accurate. Based on the research the mechanical separation and material properties of PCB, a wet process of reclaiming metals from PCB using a new style separator ? tapered diameter separation bed (TDSB) in water medium was designed, and the related separation mechanism was studied. The fluid field of the tapered diameter separation equipment was simulated by the Ansys Flotran software, the variation laws of the velocity in each position in the fluid field as well as the equation of axial distribution sectional max velocity were analysed according to the simulation result, the stress change and motion trajectory of the pellet in the certain fluid field were analysed. The results show that the expanding tubular structure of the varied diameter separation bed indicates gradually decreasing velocity of water flow along the axis, assuming a certain angle in the bed, as a result of the gravity?s influence, and there was corresponding change to the distribution of the flow velocity, thus the whole formed a special fluid field where velocity variations exist in different positions. When the material passed through the fluid field along with the water flow, as a result of the difference to the particle density, the granularity and the shape, there would appear the difference to the motion trajectory as well as the movement distance under the action of the fluid: The lower density materials discharge along with water flow, but the higher density materials would be kept in bottom of the bed and discharge through material mouth. Therefore, light and heavy products were separated effectively according to the density. Using tapered diameter separation bed to process the ?1mm size crushed material of waste printed circuit boards, with the discharge of water 5.5m3/h, feed-rate of the material 250g/min and with an obliquity 35°, product with 93.92% in integration efficiency and 93.73% in recovery ratio of the metal were obtained by the primary separation. Compared with other mechanical methods, the range of particle size was broaden using the TDSB to recovery metals from PCB, and lower limit size of separation almost approach to 0. An innovative process of ?wet impact crushing+ classifying+ tapered diameter separation? recycling metals from waste PCB was developed.

The Aitik copper mine is located in the north of Sweden and the concentrator at the mine started its operation in 1968 with a capacity of 2 Mton ore per year. Since then the operation has expanded several times, and today the capacity is 18 Mton ore per year. A new expansion plan was investigated in 2005, however the building of a new concentrator was found to be a better solution, giving a lower cost, a longer lifetime and more concentrates to the smelter at the coast. Several choices have been evaluated regarding the location of the concentrator?s crushing, grinding, dewatering, process control and water systems. The energy cost comparison has been an important factor when evaluating the various choices. The single most important decision has been in choosing the grinding system. Once again the fully autogenous grinding system, favoured by Boliden, has proven to be the best solution. The location of the mill, high and near the tailing pond, gives lower transportation costs for the ore and tailings, compared to other locations. A new water system will lower the pumping cost, give better control of water circulation to the plant and create fewer problems with permafrost in the tailings disposal area. Molybdenum recovery will be installed in the new plant using a separate circuit. A gold leaching plant was also investigated. Gold leaching is planned for the pyrite concentrate from the chalcopyrite/pyrite separation and the concentrate from the desulphurisation circuit that will be installed on the bulk flotation tailings.

In this paper the test results of flotation of the kyanite ore from a Chinese mine are described. The objective of this work is to determine effective recovery process to obtain kyanite concentrate with high quality and high recovery for a new concentrator design. The valuable minerals of the ore are kyanite, garnet and magnetite, contents of them are 14.0%, 5.9% and 1.2%, respectively. The gangue minerals are mainly biotite, feldspar and quartz, contents of them are 33.8%, 17.8% and 25.6%, respectively. The kyanite in the ore contains a little iron. In laboratory flotation tests the factors affecting the flotation such as slime, alkalinity of pulp, and flowsheet configuration are studied. The interference of biotite on kyanite flotation as well as selective flotation of garnet is examined. On the basis of above-mentioned results the flowsheet of ore treatment comprising de-sliming, mica flotation, low intensity magnetic separation of magnetite, high intensity magnetic separation of garnet and coarse biotite as well as flotation of kyanite is pre-sented for comprehensive recovery of kyanite, garnet and magnetite. The kyanite concentrate con-taining more than 59% Al2O3 is obtained with a kyanite recovery of 70.0%. The contents of Fe2O3and biotite in kyanite concentrate decreased from 2.02% and 5% to 1.30% and 1%, respectively. The disadvantage of low kyanite grade in raw ore is compensated by accessory recovery of garnet and magnetite in the ore.

Key to successful innovation, whether at organization, industry or national level, is the alignment and utilization of resources in the most appropriate and efficient way. Innovation needs to be directed strategically, and it needs to be auditable in a systematic and integrated fashion. In the light of these considerations, this paper describes the construction and use of a topographical map of the innovation landscape. The purpose of the map is to provide a holistic view of the key factors that enable innovation (the so-called ’landmarks’), how well they are aligned to support a particular type/nature of innovation in the organization, and to identify possible gaps. The significance (importance) and height (performance) of the landmarks in supporting and enabling innovation within the organization is determined by means of a selfappraisal audit. The topography of the landscape derived thus is subsequently interpreted in terms of the organization’s particular innovation strategy and environmental context. The application of the Innovation Landscape Methodology is illustrated in a number of organizations within the Mining and Minerals Industry of South Africa. Important observations and conclusions regarding the strategic alignment of enabler strengths within these organizations are made.

The existing construction and demolition (C and D) waste recycling technologies and standards have been essentially focused on the production and use of coarse recycled aggregates. Very few papers focus on the production of recycled sand, although some previous results show that fine aggregates fraction represents around 40 to 60% (in mass) of the Brazilian waste and it is usually used as road sub-base or disposed in landfills. The quality of the recycled aggregate is strictly related to the content of porous and low strength phases, mainly the patches of cement remaining on recycled aggregate surface. Some technologies have already been described in the literature, even though, to the moment none of these technologies has clearly succeeded in reaching the large market available. This paper presents a summary of the main properties of the sand produced from C and D waste by tertiary crushing at vertical shaft impact crusher (VSI). Additionally mineral processing technologies were applied on the attained product, such as gravity concentration by shaking table and spirals and removal of cement paste by attrition. The main properties of recycled sand are discussed and compared to the previous C and D waste, respectively: particle size distribution, particle shape, chemical composition, cement paste content and porosity. The results demonstrates that the crushing allowed producing a VSI-sand with low porosity and water absorption due to the increasing on the content of silicates from natural rock phases and increasing liberation between these phases and porous cement paste; the particles from the attained product presented also a better shape (sphericity and aspect ratio). The attrition tests assayed on VSI recycled fine aggregates accomplished a further selective disaggregation of cement paste and other porous materials - the porosity was reduced from 10% to 7%. The concentration by shaking table at narrow sieve fractions led to a product with low porosity and reduced content of cement paste, however, concentration on spirals did not succeed since separation was performed essentially by the size of the particles. The heavy product from shaking table represented almost 75% in weight and has less than 60% recovery of CaO+LOI, and expressive reduction on porosity. The aim of producing sand from construction and demolition waste through mineral processing unit operations changes the recycling approach and contributes for up cycling the recycled sand. The exhaustion of sand deposits on Brazilian large centers, the increasing price and the construction boom encourages the development of alternative materials as construction raw material. "A specially designed mill which allowed the control of pH throughout grinding was used to study the effect of grinding conditions on galena flotation and galena separation from pyrite. The changes occurring on the mineral surface during grinding were investigated by EDTA extraction and ToF-SIMS measurements.Galena flotation and galena separation from pyrite were strongly dependent on the type and amount of oxidation species produced on galena and pyrite surfaces under different grinding conditions. Iron oxidation species depressed both galena and pyrite flotation, whilst lead oxidation species activated pyrite flotation but had little effect on galena flotation. Optimum galena flotation and galena selectivity against pyrite were achieved by selecting grinding conditions that enabled lead and iron oxidation production to be controlled.Grinding conditions had a large effect on the flotation of the galena particles of different sizes. Flotation of fine galena particles (-10 µm) was depressed by iron oxidation species derived from the grinding media. Chromium grinding medium decreased the production of iron oxidation species and therefore increased the flotation of fine galena particles."

A mixed culture of moderately thermophilic microorganisms was enriched from Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) samples collected from several chalcopyrite mines in China,which can leach copper from chalcopyrite effectively. Its tolerance to chalcopyrite was brought up to 80 g/L after being adapted to gradually increased concentrations of chalcopyrite. The effects of several leaching variables on copper recovery in Stirred Tank Reactor had been investigated. The ore contained chalcopyrite (62.2%) and galena (25.6%) as the main sulfide minerals. The results of the tests show that it is possible, operating at 8% of pulp density to attain copper extraction of 75% in 44 days. The leaching rate of chalcopyrite tends to increase with the dissolution of total iron. Microscopic counts of microorganisms in the solution tend to be higher at low pH range. Furthermore, the analyses of leached residues indicate that the passivation of this chalcopyrite is mainly due to the formation of a mass of jarosite and anglesite (about 48.3% and 21.7% in residue respectively), other than elemental sulphur layer. The bacterial community composition was analyzed by using amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis (ARDRA). Two moderately thermophilic bacteria species were identified as Leptospi-rillum ferriphilum and Acidithiobacillus caldus, with different proportion in the bio-pulp, 67% and 33%, respectively.

In this paper, numerical simulation of magnetite, medium segregation and coal partitioning have been made in a 350 mm diameter cyclone. An attempt is made to assess the nature of impairment in efficiency in relation to the increasing amount of near gravity materials in coal. The CFD model approaches the Algebraic Mixture (ASM) model with the granular option and Reynolds stress model (RSM) to resolve the air core and turbulent mixing of the medium and coal particles. The partition characteristics of the DMC were modelled using both Lagrangian & Eulerian particle tracking for particles ranging in size from 0.5 to 8 mm and in density from 1200 to 2000 kg.m-3. Lagrangian frame work based Discrete Phase model used to simulate the coal particle trajectories inside the DMC and attempted to understand the residence time of different size and density coal particles. It was observed that coal particles having density near to separation-density (having fifty percent of probability to under flow and overflow) are exhibiting increased residence time than any density particles. As expected the smaller size coal particles shows higher residence time than the coarse coal particles. CFD simulations on effect of NGM mass fraction are simulated and analyzed using ASM model including for coal and magnetite. Coal particles with high NGM content show significant effect in misplacement of coal particles towards wrong products at all relative densities. The residence time of the particles increases because of its increased interaction with near dense particles. The effect of NGM fraction on overall cyclone performance as well as detailed flow assessment in terms of residence time distribution, NGM particle concentration profiles with respect to LZVV is presented.

A complex rare metal ore, containing various valuable elements is used in this study. The mineralogy results indicate that the mineral composition of the raw ore is complex, and there are more than thirty-eight kinds of minerals in the raw ore, and the elements, such as Nb, Ti, Fe, REO, Be etc, always form isomorphism relationship. The REO content of the raw ore is 0.45%, and the contents of other rare metals Nb, Ta, Ti and Zr are 0.33%, 0.02%, 0.93% and 2.00% respectively, and the main gangue elements are Si and Al, and their contents are 71.84% and 8.5% respectively. The beneficiation-metallurgy combination process of ?preconcentration-reduction and magnetic separation-acidification and leaching-precipitation? is used to treat the raw ore. The preconcentration of raw ore is realized through high intensity magnetic separation, and the magnetic field intensity is 1.0T, and the rough concentrate with 2.88% REO and 1.95% Nbresidue can be obtained, and the iron recovery is 92.83%, and the REO recovery is 95.87%, and the Nbresidue is treated by hydrometallurgy process of ?acidification-leaching-precipitation?, then the rare earth oxide, niobium concentrate and zircon-bearing residue can be obtained, and the REO recovery is 80.10% and the Nbresidue and the gangue obtained from the high intensity magnetic separation process is separated by gravity separation, and then the zirconium concentrate can be obtained. The indexes of the beneficiation-metallurgy combination process used to treat the complex rare metal ore are as follows. The REO content of the rare earth oxide is 92.58% and the recovery is 58.44%. The Nb2O5 and 27.42% TFe can be obtained. Iron in rough concentrates is removed after reduction and low intensity magnetic separation, then the iron powder with Fe content over 88% and nonmagnetic rare-metal 2O5 recovery is 94.77%. The rare-metal 2O5 recovery is 80.04%. The mixture of the zircon-bearing 2O5 content of niobium concentrate is 28.34% and the recovery is 54.02%. The ZrO2 content of zirconium concentrate is 28.43% and the recovery is 52.35%. The TFe of iron powder is 89.53% and the recovery is 78.13%. "The aim of this paper is to study the numerical modeling of the crushing process in a jaw crusher with complex motion jaws using Discrete Element Method (DEM). The main goals are to ensure the conformity of numerical simulation results to the experimental data, optimize the operating modes and the crusher design and develop automated verification and calibration methodology. It is offered to use automated selection of mathematical model parameters using large- or laboratory-scale experiments instead of deriving parameters from conventional intensive material tests (e.g. drop-weight test). Experimental data were obtained from a large-scale crusher designed and manufactured by the company “Mekhanobr-Tekhnika”. Both jaws have their drive shafts located asymmetrically; one jaw is driven in the upper part, the second at the base. The crushing process involves fragmentation of single smoothed rectangular granite particles of the same weight. During the experiment, the required parameters such as particle size distribution were obtained for further computer simulations. Based on the obtained experimental data, the Rocky DEM model was built. Simulation breakage parameters were calibrated using automated parameter selection methodology based on multiple set of parameter-controlled simulations. A good correlation of the experimental data and numerical simulation data was obtained. The methodology in combination with well-known capabilities of simulation modeling will help reduce the research time in the development of new mineral processing equipment.INTRODUCTION Preparation of rock mass for enrichment includes the power-consuming processes of crushing and grinding. Initial rock mass crushing is performed by means of drilling and blasting operations. To reduce the average size of a rock piece, primary crushers, mostly jaw crushers, are further applied. The advantages of the jaw crusher are simple design, easy maintenance and repair. One of the drawbacks is large oscillating masses and, thus, high power consumption during operation (55 - 200 kW). Jaw crushing simulation will help optimize the crushing process and improve further rock transportation and processing performance."

Acid leach liquors from spent lithium-ion batteries employing lithium cobalt dioxide (LiCoO2) as a cathode active material contain valuable metals such as cobalt and lithium, as well as common metals such as aluminum and copper. The objective of this study was to develop a hydrometallurgical process providing a high selectively between aluminum, cobalt, copper, and lithium from hydrochloric acid solutions. Batch experiment results showed that selective hydroxide precipitation approach was not suitable because a significant amount of cobalt and lithium was co-precipitated with aluminum and copper hydroxides. In contrast, batch experiments and the subsequent data analysis indicated that the sequence of solvent extraction circuits using PC-88A, Acorga M5640, and tri-n-octylamine (TOA) extractants effectively separates four metals of interest. In the first circuit of the proposed process, copper was selectively extracted by Acorga M5640 at the pH 1.0-2.0. Aluminum, cobalt, and lithium remain in the aqueous phase. In the second circuit, aluminium is selectively extracted by PC-88A at pH 2.0-2.5. For the separation of remaining cobalt and lithium, Acorga M5640 provided higher separation efficiency compared to PC-88A single extractant and PC-88A/TOA mixed extractant. However, the stripping efficiency of cobalt from the Acorga M5640 organic phase was found to be low (less than 10 %). Therefore, PC-88A/TOA mixed extractant rather than Acorga M5640 is an advisable choice for the separation of cobalt and lithium. "While there is a large industry based on recovering platinum group metals (PGM) from complex sulphide ores containing Cu and Ni, there is little information on the thermodynamics of the matte phase formed on smelting the ore and in particular the behaviour of Pt in the matte.The equilibrium between metallic platinum and industrial mattes was studied in a series of experiments where a small quantity of matte (5g) and platinum foil of 150 µm thickness (0.5 g) were equilibrated in magnesia crucibles at 1400°C under conditions where the oxygen and sulphur partial pressures were fixed.The chemical composition of the phases was determined from EDS analysis using a scanning electron microscope. Line scans were initially used to confirm that the foils had attained a uniform composition across their thickness. The composition of the matte was determined from analysis of an area of matte including the small metallic droplets and dendrites.The results of the equilibrium study are presented in terms of how the oxygen and the sulphur pressure affect the distribution of Pt, between the matte and the alloy foil (Lmatte/alloy). Other variables investigated were matte chemistry, i.e., the Fe content and the temperature. The activities of platinum in the mattes were calculated using a regular solution model describing the activity-composition relationship in the alloy."

The froth phase plays an important role in the flotation and upgrading of the final concentrate. At present, the techniques that have been used in the mineral industry to measure the froth recovery have limitations. The aim of this paper is to investigate the performance of the froth in an industrial flotation cell. A unique device has been developed which is capable of decoupling the froth zone from the pulp zone. It consists of two concentric tubes. The inner tube acts as a dropback collection chamber or catcher. The particles that detach from the froth phase fall directly into the catcher and are collected as froth dropback. The froth recovery measurements were carried out in a rougher bank of a copper concentrator treating sulphide minerals. The dropback device is designed so that it can be immersed into a plant size flotation cell and plant froth recovery measurements can be taken at any given time. During the experiments, the bubbles laden with valuable mineral particles entered the device from the plant flotation cell, subsequently rising to form a froth layer at the top of the device. The particles that detached from the froth zone were collected in the dropback collection chamber whereas the concentrate sample was collected by a launder. By drying, sizing and chemical analysis of the concentrate and dropback samples, the froth recovery, was estimated on the basis of the valuable component. "Energy is vital for economic growth and sustainable development. Greater efforts are being devoted to developing unconventional energy resources such as oil shale as an alternative promising source of oil or solid fuel supplement. The main object of this contribution is to determine the upgrade potential of El-Nakheil oil shale using froth flotation. Samples were prepared by comminution followed by sieving into different size fractions. The flotation behavior of the material and extent of cleaning was studied with respect to nonionic and ionic collectors of anionic and cationic types. It was found that the organic rich portions could not be rendered sufficiently hydrophobic by the used collectors and selectivity towards surfactant was very low."

"Understanding the effect of particle shape on dry rheology is considered to be an important aspect in order to replace natural sand used in concrete with manufactured sand. Crushed particles from solid rock are normally less rounded and have less equally shaped dimensions compared to natural sand. Thus, the flowability and workability of the concrete will be different. In previous research, it has been demonstrated how different crushing techniques affects the shape of the particles. In many cases it is believed that Vertical Shaft Impact (VSI) technology is a way forward to replace natural sand. To be able to study the effect of VSI at the smaller fractions (63-2000 µm) sufficient measurements methods to determine particle shape are required. Optical tools to analyze the aggregates would make it possible to study a large amount of particles at small fractions. The determination of particle shape of aggregates is challenging since the shape is highly irregular and the size span of particles are very large. This study aim to evaluate one of the available optical tools, the Camsizer, for digital imaging determination of shape and size distribution. The available default shape parameters of the Camsizer are studied to understand the meaning of the parameters and their suitability for determining the quality of manufactured sand. To evaluate the capacity to determine particle shape, tests are made with 35 different materials. The results are compared with the dry rheology measured with the standardized "flow cone" test. Dependence has been previously proven between particle shape and the mass flow rate in the cone. Three different shape parameters, aspect ratio, sphericity and symmetry, are studied with the Camsizer and the results are compared with the mass flow rates in the cone. The results indicate a strong linear relationship between the optical parameters and the flow cone test."

The paper presents issues related to interference of mining activities with the environment. Exploitation of mineral resources causes primarily a modification of the landscape. All of the negative impacts on environment are short-lived and last as much as it takes to exploit the raw material. After the mine closure reclamation is necessary during which all aspects that reduce harmful effects of the mining activities on the environment must be taken into account. Current ways of reclamation allow recreating natural environment, which is different from the original and enriched in diverse new values. This requires propositions of new forms of converted land development through a detailed analysis of technical, natural, planning, economic and social sphere requirements. Before making final decisions regarding selection of direction of reclamation, a thorough analysis of the key factors has to be carried out. All steps related to the implementation of the reclamation project are shown in the paper using Limestone Mine "Górazdze" located in the south-western part of Poland as an example. This paper also presents an analysis of current ways of post-mining reclamation towards agricultural and forestry landscape, along with our own suggestion for their extension in order to preserve biodiversity. For choosing optimal solutions the most relevant criteria were considered: existing natural values and possibility of their protection. Taking into account the economic and social aspects, supported by natural potentials, implementation of tourism and recreation in this area were proposed. It was shown that this proposition would not interfere with the current trends of the natural landscaping. Finally, after completion of reclamation and land development in the considered mine area, creation of a geo-park was proposed along with appearance of geotourism in the area. To illustrate the proposed forms of post-mining land development in the form of maps, an ArcGIS(ESRI) software was used.

The phosphate ore sample was taken from the iron tailings after recovering most of magnetite by magnetic separation in Longlin, Yunnan Province of China. Batch flotation tests had been conducted to upgrade the phosphate concentrate by conventional fatty acids reagents under 70% -75 µm of the particle size; however, the unsatisfied results (P2O5 grade of 27.84% and recovery of 49.25%) were obtained. Also there are a large amount of slimes trapped in the concentrate and high-dosages consumption of reagents, for example, more than15 kg/t soda ash and 2 kg/t sodium silicate at only one-staged roughing. Based on the analysis of X-ray diffraction (XRD) for the sample, most of gangues are clay, quartz, and chlorite, which may easy to over-grind and deteriorate the flotation process either on reagents consumption or slurry fluidity or viscosity. A hydro-cyclone had been introduced to pre-concentrate the phosphate ore by scrubbing the slime before flotation, which can result obviously in reducing the dosages of soda ash from 15 Kg/t to 4 Kg/t, and raising the grade of P2O5 in the concentrate from 27.84% to 36.13% at the expense of about 4% recovery of P2O5. They also substantially reduced the time of sedimentation of concentrate after flotation from ~10 to ~1 min. In this paper, the effects on the recovery of P2O5 by the different dosages of flotation reagents with or without de-sliming were studied, with the objective of determining the different effects on the functions of flotation reagents by slime during flotation. "The potential of Fe(NO3)3 modified attapulgite was assessed for the adsorption of phosphorous removal from aqueous solutions. Natural attapulgite was modified by Fe(NO3)3, and thus the composite adsorption materials could be obtained. Also phosphorous adsorption characterization on the iron-coated attapulgite was investigated in this research. Taken overall the results suggested that phosphorous adsorption capacity could be improved markedly by adopting ferric modified-attapulgite. The optimum phosphorous adsorption were developed in the experimental conditions of the solid-to-liquid Ratio 1g/L, the initial phosphorous concentration 5 mol•L-1, reaction time 120 min, temperature 25 ? and pH=4.0, the removal efficiency is 92.28% for the modified attapulgite. In comparison of batch experimental results of phosphorous adsorption onto natural and iron-coated attapulgite, it has provided much more likely the same change trend. On the other hand, the outcomes of this analysis indicated that ferric modified adsorbent was notably influenced by adsorption element over natural attapulgite. The Freundlich isotherm adequately described the adsorption course of phosphorous onto ferric modified-attapulgite with the correlation coefficient R2 goodness of fit of 0.9690."

"The major ilmenite reserves are located in India at Chavara (CH), Manavalakurichi ( MK) and Chatrapur, Orissa (OR). India stands first in terms of ilmenite reserves, which are estimated to be 278 million tonnes out of which, 142 million tonnes are processable. Mineralo-chemical analysis shows that Chavara ilmenite is the most weathered one with about 60% TiO2 while Chatrapur is the least weathered with about 50% TiO2. Co-existence of ilmenite with pseudorutile, rutile and haematite is observed in substantially varying amounts in the three deposits. It is observed that the tropical weathering rather than the source rock difference has apparently played an important role in imparting major compositional and structural dissimilarities among ilmenites in different places.In processing of ilmenite through the Becher process, aeration rusting of pre-reduced ilmenite is found to be the rate limiting step thus, affecting the productivity of the process. Investigations have proved that the addition of some organic compounds such as glyoxal, sucrose etc., to the system accelerates the reaction to such an extent that the rusting time has been reduced to less than half.A new route of processing ilmenite for synthetic rutile has also been developed in which, ilmenite is carbothermally reduced and then processed through plasma route. The slag thus obtained is processed further to get high-grade synthetic rutile, metallic iron and high purity iron oxide. The process has been scaled up in a continuous moving bed plasma reactor. It is technologically and economically more viable where, all the iron values are recovered as salable byproducts. This paper describes the salient features of the technologies developed for the beneficiation of ilmenite to synthetic rutile."
