"Within the next few years major changes in mobility are expected. Increasing numbers of electric powered cars, electrobikes and E-Scooters define the transport sector. Recently lithium based traction batteries as storage medium have led into matrurity of series production combining high electrical efficiencies with low weights and compact dimensions. Due to the relatively young development with lithium batteries utilization, only few investigation were conducted regarding their recycling. Conventional battery recycling processes can not be applied due to differences in design and chemistry. So an automated disassembly and processing procedure for lithium traction batteries has been developed in the R/D-project ""Li-WERT"". Instead of complete smelting of the batteries without pretreatment, an automated disassembly and specific treatment of the material streams was realised, adjusted to the needs of the subsequent recovery technologies. A higher quality, with reduced expenses for the separation of fine-grained or fused material mixes, can be obtained for the individual components. The automated disassembly using an industrial robot significantly reduces dangers for the operating crew. The selective disassembly and beneficiation allows full recovery of the fractions. The batteries will be disassembled to cell level by the industrial robot. Anodes, cathodes, and separation layers are isolated and processed. The technology is designed, that no waste is generated for disposal. The pelletised cathode coating and the other separated metals (stainless steel, copper, aluminum) can be used in respective metallurgical plants. Circuit boards and plug contacts are also coveted secondary raw materials for reuse. The process is modular and offers high flexibility, e. g. for new battery types/ sizes by quick adjustment of the robot and tool change. Adaptation to other cathode materials (e. g. Li[FePO]) is possible. After finishing the R/D-project, a pilot plant for demontage was realised in 2013."

"It is well known that froth phase has a controlling influence on the overall flotation performance. Froth recovery is expected to be affected by froth transportation behaviour. The latter has been represented by different volume balance and energy balance based models. In froth transportation models based on a volume balance, the froth phase is divided into different zones. The total froth residence time is the sum of the time spent in each zone and is dependent on the cell geometry, bubble burst rate and the position that bubbles enter into the froth phase. Alternatively, the froth transportation model based on an energy balance treats the froth phase as a block. In this model, froth height above the concentrate lip is being predicted by minimising the energy of the system which is dependent on the froth geometry, froth stability and froth rheology. The froth height can be used to calculate the froth efficiency of delivering mineralized bubbles from the pulp to the concentrate lip. This paper critically analyses the current models of froth transportation in flotation, and examines the limitations of these models. The importance of froth rheology, which is the resistance to the froth flow towards the discharging weir, in determining froth transportation, is also highlighted."

"South Africa is the world?s second largest producer of titanium bearing minerals, but apart from producing titanium mineral concentrate to form TiO2 slag, little further value is added in South Africa to mined minerals. Various studies were undertaken by both government and the private sector in an un-coordinated manner until 2007 when the South African Department of Science and Technology (DST) planned and adopted a national strategy to establish a local titanium metal industry through the research and development of key technologies that would provide a competitive advantage to such a local industry. The strategy entailed a two-pronged approach in the development of this capability, viz. simultaneous investments in the development of high-level human capital and technology in the fields of titanium metal powder production and downstream titanium metal powder processing technologies. To date significant progress has been made to establish research and/or pilot scale facilities in the following technical areas: TiCl4 production technology, titanium powder production technology, high energy milling of titanium powder, metal injection moulding facilities, rapid production of large components using laser additive manufacturing technology, investment casting of titanium, resource efficient machining of titanium and friction stir welding of titanium. Supporting technologies are also at an advanced stage through investments in titanium powder spheroidization and direct rolling of titanium powder. The intent with investment in some of these areas is not to develop new technology per se, but rather to establish local capability that will position South Africa to collaborate with other organisations in the world so that technologies can be acquired and transferred when needed in the future."

Phosphogypsum (PG) is an industrial waste from the production of phosphate fertilizer. The utilization of PG is restricted by its containing impurities, and the pretreatment is crucial to eliminating these impurities. The purpose of the research is to recycle pretreatment PG as raw material for preparation of a-calcium sulfate hemihydrate (a-HH) by salt solution method. The effect of pretreatment technologies of lime neutralization and washing on dehydration rate, phase composition and morphology evolution of a-HH were investigated by crystal water content analysis, XRD and SEM. Furthermore, the change of pH in the reaction process was also discussed in detail. The results show that the dehydration rate of conversion PG to a-HH increases and the corresponding induction period, crystal growth period and total time decrease with an increase in CaO dosage from 0.2% to 0.6%. In the presence of 0.4% CaO or 0.6% CaO, the a-HH presents a long hexagon-prism-shaped crystal with a purity of 94%, and the end face of a-HH presents polyhedron. The system pH sharply decreases with the reaction time under different CaO dosage, and the pH variation from the initial alkalinity to acidity. The main reason is that as the co-crystallized phosphorus dissolved and released HPO42-, and with the pH decreasing to 4-5, HPO42- transformed into H2PO4-. The dehydration rate of washing PG is lower than that of original PG. Compared with the original PG, a-HH with the larger width and smaller aspect ratio can be achieved from the pretreatment PG subjected to lime neutralization and washing, meanwhile the crystal surface is more smooth.

Yuanjiacun iron ore located in Shanxi province of China has finely disseminated grain size and contains refractory iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals such as chlorite. Therefore, a large amount of secondary slime (the content of -10µm fraction was up to 32.92%) was produced inevitably in fine grinding process, and chlorite was also enriched in concentrate from the content of 4.3% to 14.8% after high intensity magnetic separation. These two characteristics result in the difficulty to deal with Yuanjiacun iron ore by flotation. In this test work, contrast tests between single reverse flotation and selective flocculation desliming-reverse flotation were conducted on Yuanjiacun iron ore. The test results show that after selective flocculation desliming, the iron grade of cationic reverse flotation concentrate increases by 6.15% and the recovery increases by 7.25%; the iron grade of anionic reverse flotation concentrate also increases by 2.15%. Furthermore, analyses of grain size composition and mineral composition were carried out on separation products, the results indicate that selective flocculation desliming plays a dual role of optimizing grain size composition of flotation feed and removing iron-bearing silicate gangue minerals (chlorite) effectively.

Calcium carbonate/Titanium dioxide composite, characterized by coating TiO2 on the surface of CaCO3 particles, is an important substitute for titanium dioxide. This paper studies preparation method of CaCO3/TiO2 ,composites based on mechano-chemical effects, measures its properties as a pigment, analyzes the binding form and interface reaction mechanism between CaCO3 and TiO2. Through single finely grinding of CaCO3, co-grinding of CaCO3 together with TiO2, and mecha-no-chemical effects produced in the course of grinding, CaCO3/TiO2 composites can be prepared successfully. Results indicate that grinding fineness of CaCO3, co-grinding time of CaCO3 and TiO2, the weight ratio of grinding media to mineral feeding, and the amount of TiO2 have much influence on the properties of CaCO3/TiO2 composites. CaCO3/TiO2 composites have the properties same as titanium dioxide pigment, oil adsorption and ultraviolet adsorption same as TiO2, and 90% of hiding power as that of TiO2. Wet grinding of CaCO3 causes the production of mechano-chemical effect and hydroxyl group, through which CaCO3 and TiO2 can be bonded together. Repulsion occurs between the particles of CaCO3 and the particles of TiO2, respectively, they are both in good dispersion. But attraction occurs between CaCO3 and TiO2. TiO2 particles are distributed evenly on the surface of CaCO3. Therefore, coating of TiO2 on the surface of CaCO3 particles and chemical bond between them make CaCO3/TiO2 compo-sites have pigment properties of Titanium.

"Tailings from lead-zinc mine contain plenty of dolomite and low-grade fine-grained barite, which is difficult to enrich by mineral processing. Since the density of barite and dolomite has some differences due to the fine dissemination size in a complex sedimentary, the gravity separation tests were conducted with no results obtained. The magnetic separation was conducted to remove the magnetic gangues, and the results were not satisfactory because of the gangue minerals such as limonite and others were low in content. The results of floatation tests showed that the mineral separation of barite and dolomite is quite difficult because that they have similar mineral floatability. Experimental research shows that the good results can be obtained by “desulfurizationbarite floatation” processing with the new depressant TS. The barite concentrate containing BaSO4 91.27%, BaSO4recovery is 70.25% when sodium dodecyl sulfonate serves as a collector and TS as the depressant.INTRODUCTIONBarite is an important mineral material. Often associated with other minerals, it usually needs to be separated by mineral processing in order to meet the application requirements. The main barite beneficiation methods include hand sorting, gravity separation, floatation, magnetic separation, acid leaching, etc. Usually barite associated with oxide ore such as fluorite dolomite, quartz ore etc. are also associated with sulfide ore such as pyrite, sphalerite and galena. The separation between barite and sulfide ore (such as pyrite) is easy. On the other hand, the separation between barite and oxide ore (such as dolomite and fluorite) is very difficult. There are quite a lot of reports on the separation between barite with fluorite dolomite however the separation between barite and dolomite is seldom discussed.The ore properties are quite complex attributable to mineral assemblage containing a large amounts of dolomite. As the density of barite and dolomite has some differences, gravity separation between them is usually easy. The gravity separation tests were conducted with no results obtained due to the fine dissemination size in a complex sedimentary. The magnetic separation was conducted to remove the magnetic gangues, and the results are not satisfactory as the gangue minerals such as limonite and others were low in content. Due to the fine dissemination and intimate association of minerals, and barite and dolomite contain the same group ions of Ba2+, Ca2+ and Mg2+, the results of flotation tests showed that the mineral separation between barite and dolomite by flotation means problematic. Previous studies have been conducted by several institutions but none to date has come up with a satisfactory process in dealing with the deposit. This may be attributable to: high cost of reagents; unsatisfactory performance. Therefore, the key to the flotation separation of barite and dolomite is the application of selective inhibitors. Based on previous test observations and years of extensive research experience in barite processing technology, with the new depressant TS has selectivity inhibition on dolomite developed and used, good results can be obtained by “desulfurization-barite flotation”, which allows barite in the lead-zinc tailings to a comprehensive recovery."

"Oxyethylated compounds are used as reagents-regulators in the flotation of non-sulfide ores, in particular, apatite-containing ores. Thus, the necessary degree of selectivity in the flotation separation of two calcium-containing minerals of apatite and calcite is achieved only by using, in addition to a collector, regulators-reagents from the nonylphenol ethoxylates class. In order to establish the most optimal structures, this paper presents a comparative assessment of the physical-chemical and flotation properties of several classes of oxyethylated compounds - alkylphenol ethoxylates, aliphatic alcohol ethoxylates and oxyethylated carboxylic acid. The authors have studied their dispergating ability with respect to the air phase and calcium soaps of the carboxylic collector. Dependences of foaming properties of regulators on the degree of oxyethylation have been determined. Adsorption isotherms of sodium oleate on apatite and calcite in the presence of regulators have been obtained. It has been shown that the presence of oxyethylated compounds in the solution reduces the amount of the adsorbed fatty acid collector. The influence of the considered classes of regulators on apatite flotation has been studied. The interrelation of flotation properties of oxyethylated compounds and their molecular structure has been established.INTRODUCTION Flotation plays a leading role in complex apatite-containing ores processing. However, two calcium-containing minerals - apatite and calcite, which compose apatite-carbonate ores, are characterized by close flotation properties. Selective separation of these minerals is a difficult task, the solution of which is impossible without using reagents-regulators. One of the ways to ensure the selectivity of the flotation separation of calcium-containing minerals is the use of reagents-depressants such as sodium silicate, starch, cellulose derivatives, and others (Liu et al., 2016; Rao et al., 1989). Another method is the application of nonionic reagent regulators (Filippov et al., 2016; Filippova et al., 2014; Ignatkina, 2017), which contribute to the adsorption of the ion collector (Filippov and Filipova, 2006 Rao and Forssberg, 1997) and stability of formed froth (Sis and Chander, 2003)."

To date, intractable ore specific operational challenges such as poor heap geotechnical stability, permeability and high acid consumption rates associated with low grade (~1 wt%) nickel (Ni) laterites still makes the adoption of heap leaching processing unattractive. This paper presents some highlights of drum agglomeration, column leaching and characterization studies undertaken to foster the understanding and knowledge of some of the desirable product attributes of -2 mm and -15 mm, low grade saprolitic (SAP) and goethitic (G) Ni laterite feed ores and their blends (SAP/G). For column leaching, 5-40 mm agglomerate beds were continuously irrigated with 200 g/dm3 H2SO4 solution at 8.5 dm3/m2/h rate over 100 days. Ni, Co, Fe, Al and Mn extraction rates, free acid concentration, agglomerate bed slump and structural changes were determined as a function of time. The results show that at equivalent feed masses, except -15 mm G which displayed slower, pseudo-layering based behaviour, all the feeds (single and blends) displayed coalescence controlled agglomeration behaviour at varying binder dosages. Whilst the agglomerate compressive strength of the G ore was markedly higher than that of SAP ore, those of the blends were substantially similar. At fixed column leaching conditions, the Ni/Co extractions and acid consumption were higher for SAP ore whilst the agglomerate bed slump was lower than those for G ore. The bed of agglomerates produced from -2 mm G/-15 mm SAP blend was more stable than that for the -2 mm G/-2 mm SAP blend agglomerate, the latter experiencing blockage within 24 h of acid irrigation due to agglomerates breakdown. The Ni/Co extractions and acid consumption rates obtained for agglomerates of -15 mm G/-2 mm SAP blend were lower than expected based on the ratios of the SAP and G ores within the blend composition. The findings suggest that judicious saprolitic and limonitic ores’ blending could reduce acid consumption rate, improve the agglomerate bed robustness and enhance bed percolation behaviour under prolonged acid irrigation periods during heap leaching of lateritic ores of variable mineralogy.

Nickel (Ni) plays a major role in the production of steel and other major alloys. There are two sources of Ni: laterite and sulphide ores. Global reserves of sulphide ores are being rapidly depleted, while there are enormous reserves of Ni laterite, much of it in Australia. As well as being present in huge amounts, Ni laterites have the advantage of containing cobalt (Co), a valuable mineral. Over the past decade, these factors have been driving the industry to explore the processing of Ni laterite. A route that has been used commercially in processing nickel laterite ore involves the thermal activation of the minerals by pre-reduction followed by ammoniacal leaching (Caron). Although this process has been effective in processing the goethite rich laterite minerals, the higher-grade serpentine-based minerals have been shown to be less susceptible to this process. This has been attributed to the formation of inert olivine phases. In this study, we examined the use of an alternative lixiviant, sulphuric acid, in leaching pre-reduced limonite and weathered saprolite nickel laterite ores. The specific aim of this study was to examine the sulphuric acid leaching of Ni and Co from pre-reduced laterite minerals, and to understand the role of mineral transformations in this metal dissolution. Synchrotron based X-ray diffraction was used to examine the transformation of goethite (FeOOH) to spinels and serpentine mineral ((Mg,Fe)3Si2O5(OH)4) to olivine. Reduction tests were carried out using CO and CO2 reducing gas mixtures and temperatures from 400 °C to 700 °C. The rate of formation and disappearance of specific Bragg peaks during reduction of specific minerals were used to derive an understanding of these solid-state reactions. Laboratory based reduction tests and leaching in sulphuric acid were used to validate the effect of these mineral transformations. The results suggest the versatility of sulphuric acid in leaching nickel from spinels and olivine, which was achieved at the expense of lower selectivity. Cobalt dissolution was found to be dependent on the nature of ferro-cobalt alloy formed during reduction.

"Basic theoretical grounds of the methods applied for crushing and grinding parameters determination according to international standards are given in this paper. Statistical data about crushability and grindability research are shown. The potential relationship between the values of Fred Bond Work indices and John Starkey indices (Crushing index, Ball mill index, Rod mill index and AG/SAG index) are discussed in this paper. In order to establish correlation between the crushability and grindability indices the analysis of over 2 500 tests for 165 deposits located in different parts of the world was performed. The relationships among different types of energy consumed for crushing and grinding were determined. A method for preliminary estimation of energy consumption in semiautogenous + ball mill grinding circuit is suggested for its application in preliminary technological solutions development and technical-and-economic assessment."

In this study, the effect of different regrinding conditions on the depression of fine pyrite at the cleaner stage was investigated. The regrinding condition was manipulated by different grinding media (stainless steel and mild steel). It was found that, after regrinding with mild steel grinding media, the flotation recovery of pyrite is much lower than with stainless steel grinding media, and it is more difficult to restore by adding more collector. This means, regrinding with mild steel grinding media may depress the pyrite flotation more strongly. The copper activation of pyrite during regrinding was also studied. It was found, that the mild steel grinding media is more beneficial to copper activation than stainless steel media. Additionally, the analysis of pyrite recovery based on the particle size indicated, that the fine particles are more susceptible to different grinding environments than intermediate and coarse particles and therefore are more easily depressed with a much lower flotation recovery.

This paper focuses on the influence of pulp oxygen content on the separation of pentlandite and pyrrhotite contained in two different process streams in the Clarabelle Mill, operated by VALE INCO. The two process streams are (i) the scavenger cleaner feed, the product of regrinding the thickened, scavenged concentrate and the B cleaned tail produced from treating the non-magnetic fraction of the milled run of mine ore, and (ii) the magnetic concentrate which is the magnetic fraction of the milled run of mine ore. In the Clarabelle Mill, sulphite (SO32-) and TETA (triethylenete-tramine) are together used to selectively depress pyrrhotite from pentlandite. These depressants pre-ferentially decompose collector and/or sulphur enriched species at the pyrrhotite surface, an appar-ently essential mechanism in pyrrhotite depression from the scavenger cleaner feed stream. Selectivity in depression may originate from differences in the electrochemical rest potential of pyrrhotite and pentlandite. As both minerals are susceptible to oxidation, aeration in conditioning and flotation plays a key role in selective flotation. "Interaction with microorganisms results in significant surface chemical changes on minerals. For example, chemolithotrophs such as Thiobacillus ferrooxidans and Thiobacillus thiooxidans significantly alter the surface chemistry of several sulfide minerals such as pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite and galena. Heterotrophic bacteria such as Bacillus sp. could alter the electrokinetic properties of oxide minerals such as hematite, alumina, silica, kaolinite and calcite. Microbe-mineral interactions could thus be beneficially utilised in mineral beneficiation as different from bioleaching. Microbially induced mineral beneficiation unlike bioleaching deals with interfacial phenomena at mineral-solution-bacteria interfaces and surface chemical changes are brought about at very rapid rates amounting to a few minutes resulting in mineral separations in an aqueous medium.In this paper, the role of acidophilic chemolithotrophs such as Thiobacillus thiooxidans and neutrophilic heterotrophs such as Bacillus polymyxa in the beneficiation of sulfide and oxide minerals is illustrated. Mechanisms of bacterial attachment on various sulfide and oxide minerals are outlined with respect to the influence of bacterial interaction in bringing about mineral surface hydrophobicity or hydrophilicity. The role of bacterial cells as well as metabolic products such as bioproteins and exopolysaccharides in significantly altering the surface chemistry of sulfide minerals such as sphalerite and galena and oxides such as hematite, alumina, silica and calcite is discussed with probable mechanisms. Possibilities of generating mineralspecific bioreagents are outlined with respect to bacterial adaptation to mineral substrates."

"fElectrical disintegration (ED) by high voltage electrical pulse is a relatively new technique which was demonstrated by Tomsk and Mekhanobr in the 1960’s and has been investigated in detail by Andres in the 1990’s. In the ED, the electrodes should contact to the targeted material and the energy of high voltage pulse is charged directly to the material. It has been reported that the ED is quite efficient to improve liberation of composite materials, because electrical current passes often through the conductive part and/or along the phase boundaries. Theoretically, the energy required in the ED should be lower than in the other mechanical breakage methods, because breakage occurs basically by tensile strength in the ED while in the other mechanical methods it does mainly by compressive strength which is generally ten times or higher than tensile strength.Coal, involving many kinds of mineral matters, is considered to be one of the targets for the ED to apply to. In Japan, national “Hyper-Coal Project” is now running, in which ultra-clean coal (less than 200ppm of ash, 0.5ppm of Na and K, and 2ppm of Ca) is planned to produce by combining advanced coal preparation and liquefaction technologies for the purpose of direct injection of coal combustion gas to turbine. The ED is one of the major techniques to be developed in this project, since mineral matters must be liberated before introducing to the following advanced separation processes. Liberation is important also for the utilization of middling coals generated from usual coal preparation plants. The application of the ED to the middling coals is considered effective for upgrading these coals with higher liberation degree and less energy input."

The effective utilization of the energy in comminution devices depend on how efficiently the broken particles leave the breakage field as soon as they reach product size. In crushers the transport of broken particles smaller than CSS is done by gravity (vertical) thus allowing the energy to be applied to new particles. However, in AG/SAG mills, gravity becomes the energy field and the transport of particles is horizontal which needs a suitable discharge mechanism and has been found to have significant effect on grinding efficiency. The material transport in AG/SAG mills depend on how efficiently the discharge system (grate and pulp lifters) operates. Material transport plays a significant role on efficiency of horizontal grinding mills ? AG/SAG/Ball mills. The magnitude of benefits that can be achieved with efficient material transport in AG/SAG mills has been demonstrated in a Greenfield milling operation at Mirabela Mineração?s SantaRita Nickel operation located in northeastern part of Bahia in Brazil. This grinding circuit was commissioned in October 2009, which was designed as a typical SABC circuit to grind 4.6 mtpa (575tph) to produce a P80 of 125um with 10-12% ball charge in SAG mill. However, it has been operating as ABC circuit without any grinding media in SAG mill. The nameplate design capacity has been achieved in few days and has gradually increased to an average of +800 tph and still it is operating in ABC mode. The milling circuit commissioning resulted in small and relatively simple measures to rectify, which was reflected in the rapid commissioning of the milling circuit and it achieved the nameplate capacity within days. The Santa Rita grinding circuit consists of one 30?x 15.4? 8.5MW SAG Mill fitted with Outotec patented Turbo Pulp Lifters (TPL TM ) in close circuit with HP400 short head pebble crusher and one 20? x 28.4? 5.5MW Ball Mill in closed circuit with Warman cyclone cluster fitted with 10 x 26? CAVEX cyclones. This paper examines the comminution design process, operating philosophies, experiences, post commissioning optimization, and future development works. "This study presents an experimental program performed to investigate the effects of flotation variables including gas flow rate, froth depth, slurry solids percent, frother/collector dosage and pH on the froth bubble size during desulfurization of an iron ore. These conditions were varied using a central composite design (CCD). Image analysis techniques have been developed and used successfully to characterize the froth bubble size. Results of the CCD experiments showed that the flotation variables have different effects on the froth bubble size. The froth height, air flowrate, pH and solid content had the most important influence on the froth bubble size. The interaction between the collector-frother, pH-collector, frother-air flowrate, solid content-froth height, pH-froth height and solid content-pH were also significant. Process state can be accurately deduced from the froth surface appearance, providing a convenient way to quantify the parameters as a function of the process control. INTRODUCTION Flotation processes are subjected to a wide variety of process disturbances, some of which are made by the change in mineral features and others to variation in operating procedures. Feed and air flow rates, densities, size distributions and shapes of particles, surface properties, and reagent dosages and compositions can all change, often with significant effect on the performance of the plant (Moolman et al., 1996a). Flotation process efficiency is governed by the wettability of the solid as well as the surface tension at the liquid-gas. Both of these properties are influenced by operational conditions encountering in a flotation process. The structure of froths developed on the pulp surfaces of flotation cells has a remarkable effect on both the grade and recovery of minerals in the concentrate (Shean and Cilliers, 2011)."

The intelligent recognizing and processing system for sinter ore mineragraphy make a great convenience of recognition and measurement. Specially, it?s critical important for a successful intelligent system to extract the minerals? feature accurately and sufficiently. Reflection index, as the crucial feature of mineral, is calculated by the theoretical calculating model of index based on the principle of imaging color models. In gray histogram of minerals? micrograph, the peaks? positions represent the information about mineral categories and contents. The relationships of different minerals? peak-positions in curve of gray histogram were got by using the peak-find model of gray histogram and calculating model of reflection index. These two models which can be regard as the method of feature extraction for minerals? photomicrograph also lay a good foundation for the artificial intelligent system of recognition and processing in sinter ore.

The Republic of Tajikistan has large mercury-antimony deposit. The Republic takes the second place in the countries of the CIS by having antimony recourses or the fourth place in the world. Recently, on the mine bottom horizons the resources of gold were found. Gold in the data ore is submitted as nanosize particles. Results of ores enrichment of bottom horizons of Djijikrut deposit are obtained by a method of flotation. The flow sheet includes the rougher flotation, two scavenging flotation and two cleaner flotation. As a result of enrichment of ore, the mercury-antimony concentrate with the contents of 51.5% of antimony and recovery 90.3% from ore with the content of mercury of 3.5% was received. The investigation of thallium, selenium, and tellurium distributions on products of enrichment was carried out. The most effective reagents are a mixture of oksafore and butyl xanthogenate. While applying this mixture of reagents it is possible to refuse of the use of activator - nitrate lead. The behavior of gold is in details investigated during enrichment. To collective flotation concentrate is extracted only 30% of gold. The basic quantity of gold concentrates in tailings of flotation and is not taken by existing traditional methods. The alternative innovative technology of gold extraction was created. Various methods of roasting of a collective mercury - antimony concentrate oxidizing and reducing are investigated. Vacuum distillation of concentrate allocation in serial sublimates mercury and antimony was designed. In the received calcine concentrates gold. At additional roasting of a calcine up to 900°? concentration of gold makes 30.6 g/t. The offered innovational technology in a complex allows to process ores and concentrates unique mercury-antimony?gold bearing raw material. This paper presents the preliminary results of a research programme conducted to assess the feasibility of a flotation technique in the remediation of soils severely affected by heavy metal contamination. The use of flotation in soil remediation is a recent practice. The main difficulties are given by the variety and peculiarity of the heavy metal containing species, and also by the grain size. Most of the studies reported in the literature concern the use of conventional collectors, such as xanthates, after a preliminary chemical modification of the metal bearing species through sulphidization. On the basis of the minera-petrographic characterization and of speciation, some classes of reagents have been selected, capable of acting both on metal-bearing species and all metallic cations to be separated. The design of the synthetic molecules has been based on the coordinative properties of the metallic centres and functionalized in order to act as collectors for a wide range of metals independently on their surrounding atoms. In laboratory experiments a sample of stream sediment has been utilized, whose contamination is caused by the runoff from Sardinia mine waste dumps and overflow from the settling ponds. The material showed contamination mainly from Zn, Pb and Cu and to a lesser extent from Cr, Ni, Cd, and Sb associated in mixed particles of Fe and Mn. Flotation tests on a laboratory scale have been performed on grain sizes less than 355 µm in laboratory cell Minerais & Metaux. The effects of the structure of collectors (functional group, chain configuration) as well as of the principal flotation parameters (such as pH, concentration of reagent) on the grade and recovery of heavy metals in the concentrate and in the tailings (remediated soil) have been investigated. The results of the laboratory tests substantially confirm the theoretical premises, and the most effecive reagents found belong to the classes ATP, MBT, MBO, fat acids and phosphates.
