In recent years, coal beneficiation has gotten considerable attention. Selective oil agglomeration has been accepted as the best method to produce clean coal with a high removal of pyrite sulphur. In this study, spherical oil agglomeration of Datong coal fines was carried out using diesel oil as a bridging liquid. The oil agglomeration has a surface properties based on coal cleaning technique. The effects of fundamental parameters have been investigated including the concentration of bridging liquid, the size of coal particle, the solid content of slurry, the agitation time and rate, pH, surfactants on the agglomeration performance and various salts on the ash rejection and removal of pyrite of the agglomerated products. The optimum conditions of particle size, diesel concentration, solid content, agitation speed and time, pH and the dosage of active agent have been determined as less than 8µm, 20wt%, 1200r/min and 10 minutes, 7.5g/t and 100g/t, respectively. Under these conditions the ash content in the products can be achieved 1.5% below, the ash rejection was up to 92%. It has been observed that ionic strength of the aqueous medium affects the agglomeration performance. The precombustion coal cleaning process based on improved selective agglomeration results in high ash and pyrite sulphur removals. Over 80% removal of pyrite sulphur can be achieved from run-of-mine coals by offering a more cost-effective sulphur reduction solution rather than any other SO2 removal technology. In addition, the removal of pyrite sulphur is very necessary for not only the prevention of environmental pollution but also economical reasons.

In this apparatus closed sized particles are placed in a container and then fluidized by passing water through the load of particles. Water flow is adjusted to deposit particles in one or more layers depending on the specific gravity of each of the particles, after which the deposited particles are separated in portions of different specific gravity. The obtained portions represent different ore content of the closed sized fraction. The process is repeated for all other size fractions to generate washability curve of the feed. Three different types of iron ores and one coal sample are tested in this equipment. The theoretical yield-grade curve generated for iron ore feed is unique in absence of any such practice for ore minerals. Similar curve is generated for coal and it is compared with washability curve, an existing practice followed worldwide. This comparison validates the performance of the process and the equipment.

The environmental and economic sustainability of froth flotation is dependent on effective management, which in turn improves the performance of a concentrator. In economic terms this means improved recovery of valuable minerals, in environmental terms this means effective management of acid generating tailings. Three indicators were selected to measure the performance of an integrated flotation system. The system consists of two stages of flotation; valuable mineral flotation followed by environmental desulfurisation by froth flotation. The suitable indicators were selected based on their fulfilment of four attributes. An attribute is a desired aspect of an indicator. The four attributes were: comprehensive, relevant, sensitive and quantitative. Two environmental indicators and one economic indicator were selected. They represent revenue generation from valuable minerals and environmental cost of management. The suitability of the selected indicators was shown using illustrative scenarios.

"This paper presents a new magnetic separator, which can be applied to increase the grade of fine magnetite ore feeding of ball mill. This innovative equipment possesses a rotating magnetic system and has a magnetic field of rapid polarity change which can strengthen the destruction of magnetic agglomerations and the dispersion of minerals to improve the quality of separation. Now this type separators have been successfully applied in several large concentrating plants such as Shuichang Iron Mine under Shouang Mining Company in China. Finally, this paper outlines practical results focused on feed grade and tailing yield, the results are showing that the quality of feeding can be improve tremendously. Hence, a new generator of rotating magnetic field has been paved. INTRODUCTION Jidong region in China is the important origin of iron ore, the characteristics of the iron ore in this region is low grade and complex, the iron mine discharges fine powder tailings reaches tens of millions of tons each year, in the wind action easy to form sand, this poses a threat to the atmosphere environment of Beijing. In order to reduce the mixing of large amount of useless ore and reduce the energy consumption of mill operation, a high efficiency pregrinding equipment is needed. Rotating magnetic field separator (RMS) is an advanced equipment, the main advantage of RMS is the significant reduction in particle entrapment and can easily break magnetic agglomeration. This reduction is so significant that RMS is capable of operating very close to theoritical limit for separator precision and can increace efficiency in selection process.Some expenrimental work on dry rotating magnetic field separation has been carried out in July 1998 in the company Ka Pty Ltd, then in 2008 BGRIMM developed industrial separation XCTG0816 in Shandong province . The wet RMS was researched in1960s in Former Soviet Union and the first industrial equipment was developed by BGRIMM in 1970s,then in 1990s wet RMS was applied in Ansteel group corporation. In 2017,6 units large wet RMS (SXCT1230)which were the largest RMS was applied in Sichuan province. No matter wet RMS and dry RMS, although they are used in differenct applications, they have some common research.in addition ,they all have good use effect."

The coking coal or clean coal from raw material division, Tata Steel Ltd. is a prime source of energy for inhouse steel making. Coal reserves of semi soft coking coal at West Bokaro is beneficiated by dense media cyclone and froth flotation processes to produce clean coal. In dense media cyclone process two byproducts-middling and rejects are also produced along with clean coal. With the growing demand for clean coal, it becomes imperative to maximize the recovery of clean coal in beneficiation processes. This will help, not only in reduction in cost of production, but also in raw resource conservation, and proper utilization. In this context, a case study was conducted at West Bokaro to identify opportunities for clean coal recovery from by-products. This paper mainly discusses the process for recovery of clean coal from byproducts and study of further liberation of clean coal from byproducts for economic consideration.

Results of the study targeted to development of universal acidic-extraction-precipitation technology for gallium recovery from the sublimates are presented in the paper. This will let to utilize a new non-traditional source for gallium production. Phase composition of gallium containing dust was studied. Forms of gallium in the sublimates were determined. The main form is Ga2O3, however, GaP form is also present in the cottrel dust and Na5Ga3F14 form is present in the dust of aluminum electrolysis. The possibility of gallium concentration was established via secondary pyro-selection of the dust. Kinetics of interaction of dust components with sulfuric acid was studied. The products of the interaction subsequently were leached with water. Optimum conditions for direct leaching with HCl and H2SO4 were determined providing gallium recovery from the cottrel dust and the ash carry outs up to 95 %. Gallium recovery from the primary dust and the secondary dust of aluminum electrolysis was at 52; 64 % and 63; 83 % respectively. Effect of Fe, P, K, Na and Al admixtures for gallium extraction from hydrochloric acid solutions was studied. It was shown that gallium chloride complex (GaCl4-) is extracted into the organic phase from the following acid mixtures: HCl + H2SO4, HCl + H3PO4, HCl + H2SO4 + H3PO4, HCl + HF. Kinetic regularities of gallium extraction in the system (tri butyl phosphate) TBP ? HCl - Ga were studied using diffusion cell method with agitation. Optimum conditions for gallium extraction from complex hydrochloric acid solutions with TBP were found providing 99.9 % recovery and separation coefficient for gallium and iron (III) of more than 25 in one stage. Sodium hydroxide and water were selected as reagents for re-extraction of gallium from the organic phase. Different options for disposal of by-products that are formed in the processing of cottrel dust, ash sublimates and dust of aluminum electrolysis were proposed and tested. Energetic characteristics identify energy consumption for destruction of prills and kinetic characteristics rate formation of finished size grade in the course of destruction and identify crushing and grinding equipment capacity. And if screen sizing or classification processes are applied in the cycle of ore preparation, then the use of characteristics of separation to size – separating characteristics – is required for theoretical description. Separating characteristics have a lower profile for ore preparation but, nevertheless, they have to be taken into account especially for balance and design calculations of crushing and grinding circuits. In most cases there are impregnations of minerals which vary widely in energy consumption and destruction kinetics and thus polyminerality must be considered as one of priority factor. Raw materials which passed through crushing and grinding processes can be assessed numerically by functions of fractional composition of two types: differential distribution function y ( €) and assay function B( c ) . A set of experiments on grinding of crushed raw materials at different time (up to various sizes) was conducted to analyze effect of grinding size of carbonaceous overburden on function y € and B ( c) as well as to justify the possibility of preconcentration of raw materials at the stage of ore preparation. Analysis of metals distribution per size grades showed that metals are concentrated in size grades of less than 0.315 mm (which is equivalent of cut point for this type of raw material), however, there is no overgrinding and oversludging of material, and enriched product for its further processing can be excluded with the help of classification. The stage of size segregation was tested as a method of preconcentration of raw materials for optimization of ore preparation and further separation.

A molecular modeling study was carried out on an adsorbed oleate monolayer on the surfaces of three calcium minerals, fluorite, calcite and fluorapatite using Universal Force Field (UFF) potentials. The cleavage plane of calcite {104} was the best template for oleate monolayer adsorbed since the surface structure enabled all the calcium sites available on the surface to be occupied by oleate anions. The area occupied per chain of oleate in this well packed monolayer was computed to be 20.2 Å, which exactly matches the value calculated to be the parking area per oleate molecule for a fully packed monolayer based on strictly geometric calculations. On the other hand, the precentage of calcium sites occupied by oleate to achieve a fully packed monolayer in case of fluroite and and fluorapatite was found to be 67% and 75% respectively. The results of this theoretical study suggest that while all the three adsorption conformations, that is unidentate, bidentate and bridging type are equally likely on fluorite and fluorapatite, bridging is most likely on calcite. Interestingly, all the conformations are observed experimentally for calcite-oleate system also. The reasons for this discrepancy between the theoretical predictions and experimental observations are not clear. More work is required to resolve this discrepancy, in particular simulation studies in presence of solvent water molecules on the surface.

The optimal design of flotation circuits is a complex task as the mathematical model is nonconvex and includes binary variables, making it difficult to obtain the global optimum solution. Furthermore, there are epistemic uncertainties in the evaluation of the performance of flotation and grinding units. This epistemic uncertainty is generated because semi-empirical models are used with parameters that are a function of the circuit design. Therefore, it is not possible to adjust these models based on experimental data as the experimental conditions are not known at the design stage. This paper analyzed the effect of the uncertainties in flotation units, grinding units, and both units simultaneously. As a result, this paper demonstrated that, for a specific mineral, few structures exist that are optimal for a wide range of values in flotation stage recoveries and liberation fractions in the grinding units. A remarkable aspect of this work is that it introduces grinding, one of the operations that most influences energy consumption in mining and has not been studied in depth in the design of flotation circuits. To demonstrate that there are few optimal structures for a specific mineral when there is high uncertainty in the process units, an a priori approach or first principles was used. Two methods of proof were used: proof by construction and proof by exhaustion. Proof by construction is the construction of a concrete example with a property to demonstrate that something having that property exists. In this work, two examples were considered in the proof by construction. In proof by exhaustion, the conclusion was established by dividing it into a finite number of cases and proving each one separately. Here, 30,000 cases were included for each example. This knowledge can be useful in circuit design including grinding, e.g., after selecting the circuit (or the most promising circuits), and the equipment design parameters and operating conditions can be defined based on simulation and laboratory tests.

In the present work, the influence of coagulant, polymeric flocculant structure type and mode of addition on flocculation performance and dewatering behaviour of plant mineral waste tailings of diverse mineralogy (kaolin, quartz, goethite/hematite feldspar, gibbsite, rutile, and Illite) is investigated. High molecular weight, non-ionic polyacrylamide homopolymer and anionic (acrylate) and cationic (quaternary acrylate) copolymers were used in orthokinetic flocculation of colloidal-ly-stable, aqueous dispersion of negatively charged particles. It is demonstrated that, through prudent selection and mode of addition of polymer structure types, synergistic effect between certain cationic and anionic flocculants can be readily achieved, leading to significantly improved dewaterability of the heterogeneous mineral waste tailings.

"Stirred media mills are widely used in the industry for fine grinding. Most of the applications work in wet mode, however dry grinding in stirred media mill comes forward more frequently nowadays. The present paper deals with the differences and similarities of the wet and dry grinding in stirred media mill from energetic and mechanochemical point of view as well. Grinding experiments in batch stirred media mill were carried out with different materials. During the experiments zeolite and kaolin were used as feed material. The grinding experiments were carried out at different stress energy and stress number values; the grinding work was measured during milling. After grinding X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), particles size analyzes by laser scattering were carried out on the ground materials. As a result of the systematic grinding and analytical measurements a comprehensive comparison was carried out on the wet and dry grinding and their usefulness for mechanical activation in stirred media mill. INTRODUCTION The natural zeolites are crystalline hydrated aluminosilicates of alkali and alkaline earth characterized by the structure that contains frameworks responsible for the high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and absorption capacity. The frameworks are interconnected by cavities and resided by cations variable in size, coordinated by water molecules. Since zeolite comprises SiO4 and AlO4 tetrahedra interlocked by oxygen atoms that are situated in the structural nodes, their characteristics differ due to the varieties in the structure-directing agents and Si/Al ratio (Colella and Wise, 2014; Malekian et al., 2011; Terzic et al., 2017). The most common natural zeolite occurring in high amount, of industrial importance and involved in milling and MA is the clinoptilolite, in the literature equivalent to “natural zeolite” designated for high clinoptilolite bearing volcanic tuffs. Its amount in the host rock must reach ~ 40 % by weight to obtain the CEC and adsorption desired in its applications. In the highest quality rock might reach 80-90 % by weight (Favvas et al., 2016), but most often is the 40-60 % by weight content, associated with smectites, improving the CEC and adsorption of the tuffaceous rock. The application of such natural zeolites is problematic in many cases due to high silica (quartz, cristobalite and volcanic glass) content and beneficiation (concentration and extraction of pure zeolite) are not feasible. Thus, mechanical activation is a possible way to alter the other than clinoptilolite minerals generating high specific surface area and functionalized particle surfaces to enhance adsorption, reaction or particle adhesion. The zeolites easy availability and the utilization cost-effectiveness have prompted the research on their physicochemical and structural properties (e.g. adsorptive and molecular-sieve activity, heat resistance, and microporous cage structure) and finding new options for their application (Kusuma et al., 2013; Musyoka et al., 2014; Rida et al., 2013; Terzic et al., 2015b). Apart from the presence of exchangeable framework cations which are crucial for the adsorption ability, and a certain degree of pozzolanic reactivity. The thermal stability of dehydrated phases is another important characteristic for use of the zeolite in composite materials that are exposed to high temperature. Thereby, the zeolites found a wide application possibility in the design of the construction composites (Albayrak et al., 2007; Najimi et al., 2012; Vejmelková et al., 2015), as well as for resolving of the environmental protection issues like wastewater refining or heavy metal elimination (Gómez-Hortigüela et al., 2014) even from contaminated groundwater using passive methods like permeable reactive barriers (Gombköto et al, 2016). Limestone is used for neutralization of acid leachates in a number of hydrometallurgical processes. The aim of this study was to clarify how limestone ground to different particle sizes can neutralize sulfuric acid. The laboratory scale ball mill was used in grinding experiments carried out using ball sizes of 20, 30 and 40 mm and volumetric slurry densities of 30, 40 and 50 percents. Varied grinding times were used in order to produce limestone samples with different particle size classes on which the neutralization potential and rate were determined. The results of the study showed that the neutralization potential of limestone is not dependent on its particle size between 5 and 120 µm. However, the particle size strongly affected the neutralization rate of sulfuric acid: The smaller the particle size, the higher the rate of neutralization. Thus, when optimizing the cost efficiency of the process, the optimal degree of grinding should be considered taking in account the required residence time in neutralization phase.

In this study the extraction of zirconium and hafnium has been investigated by solvent extraction using Cyanex 302 in various media such as nitric, sulfuric and hydrochloric acid has been investigated. Effect of various parameters such as type and acid concentration, extractant concentration, type of diluent, equilibrium time, various foreign ions and finally type and concentration of strip-ping agent have been studied. The results showed that nitric acid was optimum media for extraction of zirconium and hafnium. The extraction of zirconium and hafnium occurred quantitatively in the concentration of higher than 4 M nitric acid but in hydrochloric acid media, quantitative extraction obtains over 8 M HCl. In sulfuric acid media, extraction of zirconium and hafnium is negligible. Stripping studies showed that the optimum reagent for stripping was 0.5M sulfuric acid.

"The global demand for the copper metal is continuously increasing however, the high-grade copper ore deposits are constantly depleting. As a result, ore bodies with complex mineralogy characteristics and rich in arsenic-copper bearing minerals are increasingly processed. Arsenic-copper sulphides such as enargite can represent a significant amount of arsenic in concentrate, which causes high financial penalties by smelters. On the other hand, arsenic (As) is a highly toxic inorganic pollutant, which causes human health and environmental problems. Recent research studies have demonstrated promising results showing the possibility of separating arsenic-copper sulphides from copper sulphides using controlled pulp potential (Eh) flotation at laboratory scale. However, the selective removal of arsenic-copper minerals in real ore systems is not well understood. Two ore samples were selected from the Tampakan copper-gold deposit located in the Philippines named the HAS (high arsenic sample) and the LAS (low arsenic sample) samples and the mineralogical analyses were performed on both samples. The floatability of enargite in a batch flotation system under controlled pulp potential conditions was investigated for the HAS and the LAS samples. It was observed that it is possible to selectively separate enargite from other copper minerals after reducing the pulp potential to about -200 mV SHE at pH 11 in the LAS sample. However, no separation between enargite and other copper minerals was observed at a reducing potential for the HAS sample. Mineralogical analyses and surface chemistry studies were undertaken for both samples to find out the reasons for different observations. This study has an important implication in sulphide flotation to achieve sustainable development in the utilisation of arsenic-copper mineral resources. INTRODUCTIONAs the demand for copper is increasing, the extraction and development of resources including complex deposits is becoming necessary. These complex deposits often have issues such as: lower grade ores, floatable non-sulphide gangue, very fine-grained ore and therefore poor liberation and significant regrinding, mixed copper mineralogy, complicated galvanic interactions, economic levels of gold and silver, and high levels of impurities such as arsenic. There is currently no established methodology for separating arsenic-bearing copper minerals from other copper sulphide minerals by flotation. The possibility of separating arsenic-copper sulphides from other copper minerals by controlling the potential of the flotation pulp has been shown in previous studies. However most of these studies were conducted on single mineral systems and the selective removal of arsenic-copper minerals in complex ore systems is not well understood. The flotation behaviour of arsenic-bearing minerals within complex ores differs significantly from that of pure mineral systems due to the effects of mineralogical composition, the degree of liberation, and the surface oxidation. The understanding and manipulation of these effects can lead to improvements in the selective flotation recovery of arsenic-bearing species from complex ore systems."

Different methods of utilizing refractory bauxite and disposing red mud are practiced throughout the world, but none of them are known to be environmentally innocuous due to the complexity and /or high cost, and none has been found to be feasible on an industrial scale. Under these conditions, the use of bioleaching process seems promising. The present study emphasizes on the isolation of native extremophiles from the source Indian bauxite and red mud, with their detailed cellular and physio-chemical, and biochemical characterization. These organisms were tested for their ability to thrive in physically or geochemically extreme conditions. The gram positive capsule rich mesophiles and thermophiles were tested for removal of gangue minerals from the bauxite and red mud samples. In the region of the North-Bohemian Coal Basin and its environment, there, in a row of places, are found the accumulations of rocks of the sedimentary and pyro clastic origin, the preliminary composition of those shows the possibility of their being utilized for the production of ecologically sparing natural Fe- and Ti- pigments and filling substances. In many places of the regions of Chomutov and Podborany and near Bilina and also in other places, there are found raw stocks perspective for the preparation of yellow up to ochre-brown, red, brown-red and green dyes. The target of project is the verification of dispensable reserves, their mineralogical composition and chemical and physical attributes, verification of treatment ways of Fe-and Ti-pigments separation (hydrocyclones, magnetic and electrostatic separation) and their stabilization and technological painting attributes for applications in colors, coating and plastic masses, mortar mixtures etc.

"This article presents the results of comprehensive research on the quantitative distribution of gold content in the raw ore and tailings from the flotation enrichment process at the Ellatzite Med plant. The study is a quantitative and qualitative determination of the presence of gold in the ore processed by Ellatzite Med AD, as well as its behavior and distribution in the various metallurgical products of the flotation process. The representativeness of the samples taken is ensured by the frequency of sampling: four work shifts of sampling on different days within a period of four consecutive weeks. The form of gold present is determined both in the analyzed samples and in separate fractions - granulometric, magnetic, electromagnetic, heavy and light. A summarized diagram presents the phase distribution of gold in the final products of the dressing process. The results obtained are used for further analysis and evaluation of the actual technological parameters of the gold. It was established that an increase in the initial gold content, respectively in the content of native gold in the raw ore, with the current process, leads to an increase in gold losses, mostly in the native gold phase. The conducted analysis of the results from the comprehensive tests on determining the form of gold present in the various enrichment products gave rise to further research with the use of a Knelson centrifugal concentrator."

"A gold has been leached with ammonium thiosulfate solution and several leaching conditions have been studied. The leached solution has been recovered by solvent extraction and the optimum conditions have been investigated.SUMMARYIn this investigation, a sponge gold sample (99.92% pure) has been leached with ammonium thiosulfate solution. The effects of CuSO4, (NH4)2S2O3, (NH4)2SO4, NH4OH and retention time on the gold leaching % (extraction %) and thiosulfate oxidation % (consumption %) have been studied. The copper ion acts as a catalyst in gold dissolution. On the other hand, it also accelerates oxidation of thiosulfate (consumption). It was found in this study that the best gold extraction condition was obtained at 43.2 ks with 0.8 – 1.0x103 mol/m3 (NH4)2S2O3, 30 mol/m3 CuSO4, 2.0 – 3.0x103 mol/m3 NH4OH, 0.4 – 0.5x103 mol/m3 (NH4)2SO4, pH 10±0.2 and 150 rpm. The thiosulfate oxidation was about 15% of the initial concentration."

The production of minerals for human use at locations other than the Earth is expected to ?advance ? human prosperity in ? ways that [do] not compromise the potential prosperity and quality of life of future generations? (Brundtland, 1987); in other words, sustainably. This paper examines the interaction of extra-terrestrial mineral production (ETMP) with the following sustainability imperatives: ? The sustainability of human activities on Earth; ? The sustainability of human activities elsewhere; ? Human survival in general, the ultimate sustainability goal. Some of the consequences of mineral production on Earth are widely considered to decrease the future prosperity and quality of human life. Examples include noxious by-products or wastes and unsettling economic up- and downswings. Moving mineral production activities to extra-terrestrial locations, where appropriate, will decrease many of its deleterious effects. Terrestrial mineral production presently is decreasing in some countries and increasing in others, moving from the cheaper and easier ores to more expensive, difficult materials. When the full costs of maintaining the terrestrial environment in a sustainable manner are included, total mineral pro-duction costs must increase. The cost of extracting mineral products from extra-terrestrial sources will be substantially higher, especially in the initial phases, but as the full costs of terrestrial production increase, at some point in the future (different points for different minerals), the curves will cross (Fig.1). This will occur at different points for different materials, a process whose prediction will be complicated by substitution of cheaper materials for some uses as prices of the original material rise.
