INTRODUCTION Uranium mine inspection in Canada forms one element of the enforcement of the Atomic Energy Control Act; it is under this Act that all Canadian uranium mines and mills are licensed to operate. Inspection duties are carried out by a small core staff of federal government inspectors (working for the Atomic Energy Control Board (AECB)) largely supplemented by provincial mine inspectors working on behalf of the AECB. Unlike most resource extraction in Canada, uranium mining is under federal jurisdiction and consequently it was the AECB who decided in 1975 that changes in the Canadian uranium mining industry, particularly its expansion and the expanding role of the mine inspector in the limiting of exposures, warranted the offering of a special radiation protection training course. The Uranium Mine Inspector Training Course (UMITC) was first conducted in 1976 at the Elliot Lake Centre in Elliot Lake, Ontario. Subscription for the course was not limited to mine inspectors to enable union stewards, management personnel and provincial/federal labour inspectors to attend. This paper will present an outline of the course content, the format of its presentation and non-curriculum aspects of running a course of this type in uranium-producing community. The core lecturers for UMITC are drawn from the Radiation Protection and Uranium Mine Divisions of the AECB. In addition, guest lecturers are invited from universities and medical research centres together with industry professionals and government researchers. In all some twenty-four plus presentations are made over the first five days of lectures. The program topic areas, hazards, controls, measurements, record-keeping and health effects are preceded by an intensive half-day session on radiation fundamentals. TOPICS Hazards [Dust] A review of the dynamics of airborne particles including the effects of particle size, gravity and wake-turbulence on the behaviour of dust clouds. Associated topics are migrational aspects of dust particles and specific dust-generating mine operations. [Radiation] Canadian uranium mines are increasingly diverse in nature ranging from large scale low-grade underground operations in Elliot Lake to smaller high-grade open pits in Saskatchewan. Papers are presented on assessments of internal and external exposure, the metabolic pathways of ingested or inhaled radiation and the specifics of mine and mill hazards. Radiation hazards are further broken down into gamma surveys of uranium mines, radon daughter concentrations and problem areas. Controls The relationship between mining methods and the operating environment is critically important to ensuring safe working conditions. This refers to both the selection of machinery/devices, etc., and to engineering controls which are instituted to remedy problems created by new technology. UMITC examines a number of possible mining techniques, their criteria for selection and impact on the working environment. Control measures, ventilation practices and design, the need for continuous water misting and special open-pit precautions are presented. These lectures frequently conclude with suggestions for better operating guidelines for mine ventilation systems and the need for greater co-operation between the ventilation department and the underground crews. Measurements Uranium mining regulations stress the need for a high standard of exposure monitoring, statistical planning and record-keeping. [Statistics] Although many course participants are well versed in statistics, certain fundamentals are repeated and include, the concepts of mean, variance, standard deviation and standard deviation of the mean. Confidence levels, decision-making based on sample statistics and statistical records are also discussed. [Dust Measurement] Dust measurement is particularly critical in the mines where the high silica content of the ore body, such as those at Elliot Lake, results in the continuous generation of dust. Sampling practices, filtration, impaction, thermal impaction and electrostatic precipitation are explained together with the methods of counting samples to determine free silica. Konimetric and gravimetric techniques for dust sampling are compared and contrasted. [Radiation Measurements] Both collective and personal dosimetry systems are used in the Canadian uranium mining industry and lectures are presented on each. Techniques and possible sources of error are discussed for a variety of radon and radon daughter measurement methods - Lucas method, Tsivoglou and modified Tsivoglou, Kusnetz, Rolle. Instant working level meters and personal alpha dosimeters are explained in terms of calibration, maintenance, readout and estimation of accuracy. INTRODUCTION This presentation is concerned with the administrative and technical capability of the Atomic Energy Control Board (AECB) to assure compliance with the individual exposure limit for radon daughters (currently 4 WLM per year). It is not concerned with the epidemiological bases for setting the exposure limit. Moreover, the intent is to show how sophisticated methodologies and advanced technologies, applied to radon daughter concentration measurements in uranium mines, convey the spirit of compliance by providing better estimates than do the historical methods. These better estimates mean that more accurate and more precise estimates of each worker's exposure are determined using these more modern methods and devices. The estimates so derived should provide more convincing evidence to an individual worker that his assigned exposure is a valid indicator of his true exposure. In addition, a perspective on the exposure estimate in relation to the exposure limit is given as further evidence that an exposure limit is not the dividing line between "safe" and "unsafe" exposures. A brief description is given of the compliance aspects of the Atomic Energy Control Regulations and of the limitations of purely statistical non-compliance procedures. Most of the emphasis of the paper will be placed on the uncertainties associated with conventional radon daughter exposure determination and the means being employed (and anticipated) to reduce these uncertainties. NON-COMPLIANCE Under current Atomic Energy Control Regulations (1978), the annual individual exposure limit for radon daughters is given without reference to the possible methods of sampling and calculation of radon daughter exposure and without any reference to possible uncertainties or their magnitudes. This is common in such statutes, the details of sampling, calculation, error analysis, and so on, being left for licence conditions or provided as a specific guideline to the licensee on the matter of compliance with the Regulation. Since the exposure limit is contained in the Regulations, compliance with it is absolute, as with any other law. In Canada, a state of non-compliance with the radon daughter exposure limit exists when an exposure (attributed to an employee) is reported by the licensee to exceed the limit. No uncertainty in the measurements or in the overall determination of exposure is reported nor is any requested. Removal of the worker and the loss of his services are the immediate and direct penalty suffered by the licensee for failure to maintain the exposure at, or below, the limit. A worker may be re-instated to employment for the balance of the reporting period only if the licensee can assure the AECB that further significant exposure to the worker will not ensue. In other jurisdictions, such as the United States, non-compliance is defined on a statistical basis. For example, NIOSH, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health presents procedures for calculating the 95% Lower Confidence Limit (LCL) in order to "compare the results of occupational environmental sampling to an occupational health standard and make a decision with a known chance of making an incorrect decision that a state of non-compliance exists" (Leidel and Busch, 1975). (In the nomenclature of this presentation, exposure limit would be used in place of "standard", in the NIOSH sense). Furthermore, it is emphasized in the NIOSH document that such numerical comparisons "are necessary only if the sample mean is greater than the standard". The NIOSH document points out, quite correctly, that the "statistical procedures presented below will not detect and do not allow for analysis of highly inaccurate results, i.e., systematic (non-random) errors or mistakes ... If a systematic error is known to exist in an instrument or analytical procedure then correct the sample mean of the data before analyzing for non-compliance". It is certainly not the purpose of this paper to criticize the sophisticated statistical approach to non-compliance as given in the NIOSH document or in similar approaches used in other jurisdictions. Rather, the purpose is to approach, with some introspection, the question of the determination of exposure by the employer for his employee and especially the employee's understanding of, and confidence in, the accuracy of the exposure determination and its relation to the exposure limit. "Pipes are used on mine sites in a variety of applications including transport of slurry, conveying clean and processing water, and in mine dewatering. Mine waters and slurries can cause pipe wear and failures via several mechanisms (or combinations thereof) such as abrasion, scaling, and corrosion. Polyethylene (PE) pipe materials have grown in popularity over the past several decades due to their chemical and mechanical properties (e.g., inertness, flexibility, relatively low density) and low cost. While PE is generally resistant to corrosion, it is subject to abrasion. To combat this, a novel, rubber-like liner is in development. In addition to comprehensive abrasion testing, however, the liner must be evaluated to see how it performs under other conditions. Here, a brief field study is described that tested PE pipes with the new liner against traditional PE pipes to specifically assess mineral scale buildup. The study was conducted in the Reiche Zeche study mine in Freiberg, Germany in six different locations with varying water qualities and flow conditions. INTRODUCTION Water and slurry conveyance are major operations on and around mine and mill sites, from mine dewatering, to tailings transport, to water treatment processes. Conveyance systems in such applications can include great lengths of pipe materials along with pumps and monitoring instruments, and thus represent significant capital investments. Due to the variability of the physical and chemical properties of water and slurries, pipe materials are subject to a wide range of conditions. These can cause pipe wear and eventually failure leading to serious economic, environmental and social, consequences. While pressure-induced pipe failures (e.g., ruptures or ""bursts”) can be immediate, most failure mechanisms involve gradual processes. Scaling and sedimentation can present major problems for pipe systems conveying highly mineralized waters. Sedimentation generally refers to the deposition of suspended solids, such as sand, clay, silt, or organic matter onto pipe surfaces. This phenomenon can occur due to a decrease in water velocity or particle collisions with the pipe wall. Scaling, on the other hand, commonly refers to the deposition of precipitated mineral salts (including oxides and hydroxides) onto pipe surfaces. Mine waters often have extremely high ion concentrations (i.e., high dissolved solids content) due to their interaction with enormous surface areas of minerals, which are exposed during mining and processing operations (Brown and Barley, 2002). As these waters are transported, slight changes in temperature, pressure or chemistry (e.g., pH or ORP) can cause instability with respect to ion solubility such that salt precipitation begins to occur. “Seed” crystals can rapidly grow and attach to pipes, either due to local surface phenomenon near the pipe wall (e.g., which can promote coagulation) or sedimentation of the precipitated solid. Whether due to suspended or precipitated solids, as the solids begin to stick to pipe walls, “aging” or hardening processes can commence; and the build-up of scale can become self-perpetuating as the scale itself provides an attractive “nucleus” for further attachment of particles or crystal growth (Muryanto et al., 2014). Over time, scale-buildup reduces the effective pipe diameter, which can ultimately result in decreased flow velocity, clogging and, in some instances, bursting (Dirany et al., 2016)."

This paper is a brief status summary of investigations by the authors over the past decade to develop a continuous process for recovering' high purity metal powder from pregnant solutions by gaseous reduction at elevated temperatures and pressures. Although these studies included extraction of other metals such as nickel, silver, and gold, this presentation will be confined to the hydrogen reduction of acidic and ammoniacal solutions of copper. The continuous hydrogen reduction process (CHR) described herein enjoys the environmental advantages of other hydrometallurgical processes but, in addition, provides a substantial benefit in fuel economy over competing processes. As was recognized by Schaufelberger in 1956, for a given amount of fuel a continuous hydrogen reduction process has the potential for producing four to six times as much metal as an electrolysis process (1). Although hydrogen reduction of metal salt solutions has been known for more than a century, extensive development work leading to commercialization was not initiated until the 1950's. Since then, commercial applications relative to other extractive techniques have been minor and have been confined to batch or to continuous, completely-mixed autoclaves. By contrast, the process described herein utilizes a continuous, tubular reactor which is operated in modified plug flow so that only limited and localized backmixing occurs. Thus, gradients in concentration, temperature, and pressure exist over the length of the reactor, the presence of which can be utilized to advantage for achieving high conversions and product quality (2, 3).

All pigments and extenders or fillers whether organic or inorganic fall into the following broad general classes: I. Colored II.-White III. Black IV. Metallic A pigment- is any particulate matter that is essentially insoluble and chemically unaffected by the media into which it is dispersed. According to this very broad definition, colored pigments, white pigments, fillers, extenders, and functional pigments would all be included. The particulate size range would also be quite broad ranging from very fine colloidal particles (~0.01µ) to relatively coarse particles (~100.0µ). This broad definition is usually subdivided into more practical divisions which tend to relate the classification of the pigment to its primary function in the system in which it is used. Hence, the word extender implies that its major purpose may be to extend the system.

Current methods for scratching a piece of rock to obtain or check the characteristics of its component material can sometimes be expensive and time consuming. Scratching a rock core requires an object with a point that it is capable of sliding along the surface of the rock while recording the response from the rock due to the sliding. With the idea of providing a cost efficient solution for a scratch device, a new generation turntable arm, composed of a cartridge with a diamond stylus and a USB output connection to the computer, was used to record the vibrations from the sliding of the stylus along a rock core surface. The output sound from the stylus was captured with the computer as an audio input signal. The raw sound data was recorded in a standard waveform audio format (wav) file, and post-processed using sound spectrum analyzer software (Spectra-Lab) to capture numerical data such as frequency, amplitude, and noise from the file. The results for frequency, amplitude, and noise were compared and plotted against the scanned surface of the rock core in the search for correlations that might represent specific characteristics of the surface being scratched.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines investigated leaching of chalcopyrite with sulfuric acid-oxygen under conditions anticipated during in situ leaching. A central composite experimental design was chosen to study oxygen pressures of 150, 300, and 450 psi, leach temperatures of 35?, 65°, and 95° C, oxygen-to-chalcopyrite mass ratios of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5, leach times of 8, 16, and 24 hours, initial acid strengths of 0.6, 1.2, and 1.8 g H2SO4/g chalcopyrite and pyrite to chalcopyrite mass ratios of 0, 1, and 2. The leaching kinetics were consistent with the shrinking core model. A quadratic response surface model was used to determine linear and interaction effects of the design factors on rate constants from Arrhenius correlations.

Computers are becoming increasingly valuable tools in the mining industry as a greater variety of appropriate hardware and software becomes available, combined with greater acceptance by management, Within a given time period an engineering staff can evaluate or design a project to much greater detail and higher accuracy by utilizing computers once suitable programs have been developed. We are all aware that throughout the world the decreasing grade of minerals coupled with increasing waste to ore ratios necessitate larger capacity, longer term mining operations and attendant higher capital costs. Computers can be of assistance in all stages of mineral exploitation, from geologic exploration through mine feasibility studies and design, to marketing and transportation. Because of the high speed with which data can be digested and manipulated by computers, preliminary information from any stage of investigation can be analyzed to assist in further guidance of that stage. By use of preliminary mine feasibility studies, financial forecasts and sensitivity analysis, even information from a far-removed phase such as marine transportation of the product, can help guide the exploration phase to a realistic target.

Cable bolts anchored with traditional two component polyester resin cartridges have successfully supported difficult roof conditions in underground mines. Resin cartridges provide a cost-effective cable bolt anchoring system with consistent anchorage performance characteristics when properly installed. The most commonly used cable bolts in the U.S. mining industry are 270 ksi (1,862 MPa), 0.7 and 0.6 inch (18 and 15 mm), seven-strand smooth cable with resin mixing bulbs (also known as bird cages), and 40- and 30-ton nominal capacity, respectively. However, there are other types of cable bolt anchoring systems aside from bird cages. Recently, many questions have been raised regarding the anchorage characteristics of various types of cable bolts. Keystone Mining Services, LLC (KMS), the affiliated engineering company of Jennmar Corporation, conducted a variety of controlled tests developed to closely model actual underground installations. These tests compared the performance of three commonly used cable bolt varieties, including plain, bird caged and indented seven-strand cable. Details of the laboratory testing and comparative analysis of the results are provided.

"Powerful mining systems typically generate high-level noise that can damage the hearing ability of miners. Engineering noise controls are the most desirable and effective control for overexposure to noise. However, the effects of these noise controls on the actual hearing status of workers are not easily measured. A tool that can provide guidance in assigning workers to jobs based on the noise levels to which they will be exposed is highly desirable. Therefore, the Office of Mine Safety and Health Research (OMSHR) of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) developed a useful tool to estimate the hearing loss due to occupational noise exposure in a systematic way and evaluate the effectiveness of developed engineering controls. This computer program is based on the ISO 1999 standard and can be used to estimate the loss of hearing ability caused by occupational noise exposures. In this paper, the functionalities of this software are discussed and several case studies related to mining machinery are presented to demonstrate the functionalities of this software. INTRODUCTIONPeople regularly exposed to noise can develop hearing loss at different levels of severity depending on a number of factors. The resultant hearing loss can affect one’s ability to understand speech, learning, acoustic signal perception, or appreciation of music. Hearing loss caused by overexposure to noise has long been recognized in literature. However, it still does not get serious attention by those working in noisy environments because the loss of hearing ability is a gradual process and workers are often unaware until the damage becomes an apparent problem. In the United States, occupational hearing loss is one of the most common work-related illnesses. Depending on the definition of exposure and impairment, in 2012 the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) estimated that there are between 5 and 30 million workers in the U.S. who are exposed to noise levels at work that put them at risk of hearing loss.4 In the mining industry, noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) is particularly severe due to the fact that heavy-duty machinery is widely used to improve production efficiency, and this machinery can generate much higher-level noise than the permissible level defined by regulation. As a result, the mining sector has the highest prevalence of hazardous workplace with high noise exposures (76%) among all industrial sectors."

The Fabrica Mine of the Brazilian iron ore company Ferteco mines on an extremely inhomogenous ore deposit. A large amount of the crude ore consists of fines minus 100 micron which cannot be sold without further treatment because of its chemical and physical properties. In order to make full use of the mined crude ore an expansion program has been realized which incorporates among others a concentrator to produce classified blast furnace ore , sinter feed and pellet feed. The pellet feed is converted in a 2.5 million tons per year Lurgi Dravo plant into high grade pellets. The paper discusses the selection of the concentration process, the pelletizing process and describes the experiences with the operation plant during the startup and the first years of operation.

Recent tailings dam failures around the globe have influenced many mining industry regulators to reassess their requirements for the numerical modelling of tailings dam failures. This type or forward modelling is associated with overarching uncertainties as the model cannot be calibrated against a physical result. Dam breach analyses that meet the requirements of current industry standards and guidance typically begin with identification of credible failure modes and selection of appropriate topographic data set to represent the study area. The breach parameters and the volume of tailings released are then determined using available methodologies and empirical relationships. Subsequently, when the breach hydrograph is developed and the hydrology of stream networks are complete, the runout simulation is implemented. Due to the uncertainty involved in the process, sensitivity analyses are recommended to quantify variations in model inputs on the inundation extent and the flow characteristics. This paper outlines some common methodologies utilized for development of dam breach models, summarizes associated uncertainties with these methodologies and inputs, and provides guidance on how sensitivity analyses can address a wide array of uncertainties inherent in tailings breach analyses. This paper provides an understanding of how selecting appropriate breach parameters can result in reasonably conservative inundation extents consistent with the identified credible failure modes.

It was estimated in Chemical Week1 that the uranium fuel requirements for the U.S. Electric Utility Industry by the mid 1980's would be about four times that-of what it is today. This corresponds to approximately 45,000 tons per year of 'yellow cake' - of which a good portion is represented by ammonium diuranate - vs. the 11,700 ton total estimated for 1975. Perhaps just as significant is the 40-fold increase in thirty years projected for the entire world since 1970. Thus by the year 2000. 'yellow cake' production could be in the order of [3]50.000 short tons annually.2 'Yellow cake', so named because of its inherently bright yellow color, is a finely divided precipitate that can be formed after the leaching step when refining uranium ores. Feed solids enhancement then occurs to at least 50% by weight using filters or centrifuges This is followed normally by drying and then calcining with the conversion of ammonium diuranate to triuranium octoxide represented by the following equation: [9 (NH4)2 U2 07 heat 14 NH3 7 + 15 H2O7 + 2N2/ + 6 U308 4] Theoretically, assuming 100% conversion every 100 kgs. or 100 lbs. of ammonium diuranate will result in 90 kgs. or 90 lbs. of triuranium octoxide.

The mining workforce experiences high rates of hazardous noise exposure and hearing loss. However, previous studies have identified specific behavioral and attitudinal barriers that keep miners from effectively acting to prevent their own hearing loss. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) has developed several new hearing loss prevention tools and interventions that specifically target these barriers to prevention. The NIOSH Hearing Loss Simulator addresses motivation to take action and knowledge about the consequences of noise exposure. The QuickFit earplug test device and QuickFitWeb online hearing protection tester address barriers to effective earplug and earmuff use by verifying at least 15 decibels of protection. The NIOSH Roll-Pull-Hold technique helps miners obtain better protection through an easy-to-remember set of steps that improves attenuation by nine decibels. The “Inquiring Ears Want to Know” fact sheet helps miners to understand audiograms and to use them to maintain their hearing health. Each of these interventions can be used within the context of a comprehensive hearing loss prevention program.

The World Health Organization (WHO) considers contamination from oxyanions, such as selenium and arsenic, a global concern. While their elemental forms are toxic, the aqueous oxyanions are more so. These aqueous forms, which exist at a higher oxidation state, are the most common forms released during mining processes. Many technologies are capable of meeting the governmental discharge criteria for oxyanionic contaminants, but may possess limitations due to redox chemistry as well as the water matrices. An innovative technology was developed that can successfully reduce such aqueous forms generated during mining processes to a level below the discharge criteria. This paper discusses how an understanding of the sensitivities of this novel adsorbent towards these variations in water matrices and redox chemistry can be used to optimize its application.

"Mathematical modeling in conjunction with mineral characterization is widely used as a method for design and optimization of comminution circuits, to simulate the processes of crushing, grinding and classification. An important input parameter to the simulation models is the Run-of-Mine Particle Size Distribution (ROM PSD). The run-of-mine size distributions due to blasting have a great influence on the performance of a semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) mill. In this paper, a mine case study was conducted where there are four primary geologic units and the material properties between the four units vary considerably. Also, the mixture of the four unit that will be mined at any given time also vary considerably. This presents a challenge in terms of optimizing the blasting for mill production throughout the mine life. As part of the case study, field rock mass characterization, laboratory rock mechanics tests, and laboratory breakage tests were conducted. The field characterization and rock mechanics tests provide material properties used to simulate the effect of different blast designs on run of mine particle size distributions (ROM PSD). The JKSimBlast software was used for these simulations. The rock breakage tests provide material properties used to simulate crushing and grinding performance. The JKSimMet software was used for these simulations. The goal of the mine is a mill throughput of 95,000 tonnes (104,720 tons) per day (TPD). Based on this goal, run-of-mine fragmentation analysis was conducted for four blasting designs resulting in powder factors of 0.44, 0.54, 0.64, and 0.94 kg/t. The powder factor of 0.44 represents a standard blasting design, while the 0.54 and 0.64 kg/t designs are high-energy blasts specifically to assist with mill production. The 0.94 kg/t design was investigated for the one geologic unit with very high strength. The results of the run-of-mine fragmentation analysis was then input into a crushing and grinding simulation model to predict the mill throughput for the time periods of 1-5 years and 6-10 years. The results indicate that certain blast designs are able to achieve the 95,000 tonnes TPD (104,720 tons TPD) goal, while other blast designs were not. A standard blast design with a 0.44 kg/t powder factor, for example, was not able to achieve the throughput goal, while a design with a 0.64 kg/t powder factor was able to achieve the goal in both the 1-5 and 5-10 year time periods. Traditionally, design of the grinding treatment is estimated using only the F80 value instead of the full distribution of sizes in the feed, but the finer sizes have great influence on the treatment of a grinder, particularly in the SAG mill."

In the exploitation of porphyry-type deposits, the quality of the ore is mostly defined according to its grade. Besides the simplest distinction, ore-waste, several grade categories may exist and they correspond to the different ways in which the ore is further processed. At the time of mining the selection of the different categories is done from extensive information available from blast holes. But planning has to be done before this information is available and it is necessary for the geologist to forecast, from exploration and development data alone, the possible outcome of the selection done later on a block, a level, or the whole deposit and ultimately predict the ore reserves and value of the deposit. A good statement of this problem has been presented at the 1976 AIME annual meeting by Williamson and Hueller (1976). They have shown that, if the cut-off values are directly applied to the estimated grade of blocks, a gross overestimation of the recovered tonnage of ore (14%) will occur. This problem, now termed "the vanishing tons problem" (DaVid, 1977) seems to be common in many open-pit operations and it has been explained several times (DaVid, 1972; Huijbregts, 1975). In order to solve it l.Jilliamson and Mueller proposed a solution based on compiling masses and masses of blast hole data available from mined-out portions of the deposit. They derived empirical correction factors which provide for every block, given its estimated grade, the expected tonnage and average -grade of each category of material within that block. The purpose of our work is to repeat the same exercise but ignoring the blast holes data i.e. we want to derive the correction factors from the only DOH data. Doing this, we are more in the real conditions where the valuation of the mine and are reserve analysis has to be made before production actually starts. The mining workforce experiences high rates of hazardous noise exposure and hearing loss. However, previous studies have identified specific behavioral and attitudinal barriers that keep miners from effectively acting to prevent their own hearing loss. NIOSH has developed several new hearing loss prevention tools and interventions that specifically target these barriers to prevention. The NIOSH Hearing Loss Simulator addresses motivation to take action and knowledge about the consequences of noise exposure. The QuickFit earplug test device and QuickFitWeb online hearing protection tester address barriers to effective earplug and earmuff use by verifying at least 15 decibels of protection. The NIOSH Roll-Pull-Hold technique helps miners obtain better protection through an easy-to-remember set of steps that improves attenuation by 9 decibels. The ?Inquiring Ears Want to Know? fact sheet helps miners to understand audiograms and to use them to maintain their hearing health. Each of these interventions can be used within the context of a comprehensive hearing loss prevention program.

There have been many improvements and advancements in the application of neural networks in the mining industry. In this study, two advanced deep learning neural networks called recurrent neural network (RNN) and autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) were implemented in the simulation and prediction of limestone price variation. The RNN uses long shortterm memory layers (LSTM), dropout regularization, activation functions, mean square error (MSE), and the Adam optimizer to simulate the predictions. The LSTM stores previous data over time and uses it in simulating future prices based on defined parameters and algorithms. The ARIMA model is a statistical method that captures different time series based on the level, trend, and seasonality of the data. The auto ARIMA function searches for the best parameters that fit the model. Different layers and parameters are added to the model to simulate the price prediction. The performance of both network models is remarkable in terms of trend variability and factors affecting limestone price. The ARIMA model has an accuracy of 95.7% while RNN has an accuracy of 91.8%. This shows that the ARIMA model outperforms the RNN model. In addition, the time required to train the ARIMA is than that of the RNN. Predicting limestone prices may help both investors and industries in making economical and technical decisions, for example, when to invest, buy, sell, increase, and decrease production.
