LG Metals Corporation started its second smelter operation at Onsan along with the existing flash smelter on January 31, 1998. Onsan smelter has been producing about 140,000 tons of copper annually from concentrates with the flash smelting line since 1979. In accordance with an increase in domestic copper demand, LG Metals Corporation decided to expand smelting and refining capacity by introducing a second smelter line using the Mitsubishi continuous process and a new tankhouse in 1995. After two years' expansion works consisting of engineering, procurement, construction and a successful commissioning test, the total smelting capacity of Onsan smelter increased to 340,000 ton of copper annually from concentrates. This paper describes the smelting facilities, operation result, problems encountered and improvements during the start-up and early operation of Onsan's new smelter

Electrocrystallization studies were conducted in a concentrated acid-copper electrolyte to determine the influence of chloride ions and glue on copper nucleation and on the structure of thin copper layers. Electrochemical experiments allied to SEM and XRD examination were performed to characterize the mechanism of nucleation in the presence of additives at 65°C. Results indicated that most of the copper nucleation from a 83 g dm-3 Cu2+ solution, with 140 g dm-3 of H2SO4 is achieved in a matter of milliseconds, Although the presence of chloride and glue, at the concentration levels tested, does not seem to substantially modify the nucleation mechanism, the morphology, nuclei density and the copper film structure and orientation are changed by the presence of additives and by electrolyte stirring.

CdTe semi-conducting materials have been expected as solar cell materials because its theoretical energy conversion ratio is very high. The actual efficiency still low, however, many research works have been done in order to improve the efficiency. And crystal orientation is one of possibilities for that. In this work, a new method using intense magnetic field for a control of texture of CdTe crystals will be proposed, where the CdTe film was electro-deposited under an intense magnetic field. CdTe is less affected by magnetic field, because of its cubic structure, but Cd or Te has hexagonal structure, which is sensitive for magnetic field. In this paper, crystal orientation of Cd or Te film, which can be utilized as basic layer for CdTe deposition, will be developed.

"Carefully planned laboratory test programs provide valuable data regarding the amenability of low grade gold ores to heap leaching. The most common laboratory test is the column leach test. The overwhelming problem associated with this type of test is the limit on the test column height. Most laboratories use a three (3) meter (10 foot) high column as a standard test due to building ceiling limitations, sample size limitations, etc. This paper presents a case study in which an ore sample was tested in a 1.5 meter, a three meter, and a six meter high column to determine the effect of column height on the test results. Other important factors such as sample preparation protocol, preliminary bottle roll testing to determine appropriate crush size, column diameter requirements, and leach solution analyses, are also discussed.IntroductionColumn leach testing has been used for years by many laboratories to determine the amenability of low grade precious metals bearing ores to heap leaching. However, the test work can be compromised by poor planning, misinterpretation of results, and extrapolation of data beyond the reasonable boundaries of the experiment. Preliminary test work should be performed prior to column testing. This preliminary work provides valuable information regarding the response of the ore to cyanidation and aids in the design of the column tests.The sample should be screened into various size fractions prior to testing. The fractions are assayed to determine the gold content of each size fraction and of the overall sample. The most valuable preliminary test is the bottle roll cyanidation test which is usually performed on five kilograms of coarse sample in a large rolling bottle which can accept material up to 50 millimeters top size. The residue from this test is screened at different sizes to determine the distribution of unleached gold in the residue. Comparison of the gold distribution in the leach residue with the distribution of gold in the feed at the same size intervals provides an indication of the appropriate crush size for the sample. The overall gold extraction from the sample at the crush size tested is also determined from these data. Lime and cyanide requirements can also be estimated from this test. The viscosity of the bottle roll pulp and the size distribution of the feed and leach residue can also suggest whether agglomeration of the ore will be required prior to column testing. Ores which contain significant amounts of clays (greater than 5 percent) will generally require agglomeration to prevent plugging of the test column."

"Purification of metallurgical grade silicon (MG-Si) by the plasma-arc zone melting method (PZM) has been examined. The process consisted in the horizontal displacement of a molten zone heated by Ar- and 10%H2+Ar- plasma-arc under atmospheric pressure. This technique, especially using hydrogen plasma-arc, promoted the segregation of impurities from the head to the tail of the bar and the vaporization of impurities of higher vapor pressures. Metallic impurities such as Fe, Ti, Cr, Mn,. Cu, Al and Ca were reduced to less than 1 mass ppm at the head side of the Si bar. Non-metallic impurities such as boron, phosphorous, carbon and oxygen were also reduced by the zoning effect and, furthermore, by activated hydrogen atoms dissociated in the high temperature plasma-arc according to the following reaction: Q (in liq.Si) + 2H = H20. Plasma-arc zone melting with hydrogen plasma has been recognized to become an effective purification technique of MG-Si for the production of a low cost solar grade Si (SOG-Si).IntroductionDemand of high-purity Si for solar grade silicon (SOG-Si) is supposed to be further growing in the near future. The purity of SOG-Si required for the photovoltaic cell is more than six nines. An expensive semiconductor grade silicon (SEG-Si) with the purity of around eleven nines has been used to satisfy the demand. Development of techniques and processes for the production of a low cost SOG-Si is therefore necessary [l]. Although many purification techniques, such as directional solidification, plasmaarc melting and electron beam melting [1-6], and processes, such as carbothermic reduction of high purity silica [7], have been examined and proposed for this purpose, a more efficient and practical purification technique is still required.In the present work, the purification of MG-Si has been investigated using a plasma-arc zone melting (PZM) technique developed by the authors. Plasma-arc melting, which is well· known as a useful melting method for various metals and alloys, has been recognized to be efficient for refining and degassing several metals if hydrogen is added to the plasma generating gas, resulting in the so-called hydrogen plasma-arc. For example, deoxidation of Fe, Co and Ta [8,9], decarburization of Fe [9] and removal of metallic impurities from Zr, Ta and Fe [10-12] have been reported. This excellent refining effect is considered to be caused by dissociated and activated hydrogen atoms formed in the high temperature plasma-arc."

"A method has been proposed for the pre-treatment of high phosphorus iron ore by carbothermic reduction assisted with microwave irradiation and magnetic separation on a laboratory scale. Chemical analysis of the reduced ore sample, the metal sample and the slag sample were conducted. Based on the above research, the influences of carbon addition, microwave power and microwave irradiation time on the recovery of Fe and dephosphorization were discussed. It indicated that the increase of microwave irradiation time and power had substantial effect on the recovery of Fe while the influence of carbon addition was not obvious and the highest iron recovery ratio reaches some 95.5% when the dephosphorization ratio was 37.68%. A high iron recovery ratio and a reasonable dephosphorization rate were incompatible under the conditions investigated in this study due to the reduced iron and because unreduced P-contained gangues were not efficiently separated. This method may provide a reference for the future utilisation of high-phosphorus iron ore.IntroductionWith the rapid growth of crude steel production in China, the source of iron ore tends to become increasingly strained and is facing the risks of raw material shortage for the iron and steel industry. In order to decrease the production cost, China has to focus on the utilization of its domestic low grade iron ores for the iron and steel plants [1-2]. China has a large deposit of high phosphorous iron ore with a reserve of 7.45 billion tons which is unused in any large scale [3]. Therefore, the development of a successful and economically viable technology for high phosphorus iron ore is of profound importance. To remove phosphorus from the high phosphorus iron ore, several mineral and metallurgical processes have been proposed, such as bio-leaching [4], roasting reduction plus melting separation [5], pre-reduction and screening methods combined with mechanical crushing or air jet milling[6] selective agglomeration plus reverse flotation [7]. However these processes are not cost effective or are time consuming. The traditional pyrometallurgical process( BF+ BOF) refuse this kind of ore mainly because that molten iron is saturated with carbon or high carbon content and thus all phosphor us in the burden goes to the molten iron[8]. Therefore, it is important to exploit the cheap and abundant high phosphorus iron ore as a resource in ironmaking. In recent years, the microwave was widely introduced as a heat resource for extractive metallurgy of iron ore or other minerals. For example, microwave assisted ore milling, microwave assisted carbothermic reduction of metal oxides and microwave assisted mineral leaching issues[9-10]"

"Electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD) residue was mixed with shale and fly ash as the main materials to make solidification/sintering brick for the utilization of the residue from EMD production. The effects of sintering temperature, sintering time, solid waste content and cooling process on its mechanical properties and toxic elements solidification were investigated according to compressive strength and leaching toxicity. The results showed that the calcined residue had capability of solidifying toxic metals and exhibited perfect strength after treated in the optimal parameters of EMD residue below 50%, temperature at 1000-1100°C, time3-5h, and semi-quenched at 600°C1 InstructionSolid clay-brick holds the leading position among building materials for a very long time in China. The traditional technique of making clay-brick has the drawbacks of backward process, simple facilities and single product. Since Chinese Reform and Opening-up, urban-rural construction and real estate have been booming with the rapidly development of national economy and science technology. The problems of ruining fertile land, environment contamination and high energy consumption in the traditional technique of clay-brick making have not been solved yet. On the other hand, more than 7 billion tons of industrial wastes are accumulated over years which occupies over 6.7 million hectares filed and causes serious environmental problems[1-31. Strategy present in ""The Chinese Agenda of the 21st Century"" required the production of wall materials less energy conservation, land saving and waste recycling.Coal gangue[4-9l, fly ash[I0- 13l, sludge from waste water treatment and tailings of gypsum, pyrite, copper mine, high silicon containing iron, asbestos and ects [l4-lSJ are the solid wastes used for brick making around the world. There are two kinds of process for brick making, high temperature sintering and low temperature steam curing[19•201. Although the technology of two brick making made great progress and got widely application in construction field, no precedent for preparing sintering-bricks with EMD residue as materials occurred in China because of its complicated processing technics and lack of sufficient practical experience to guarantee the bricks' quality.In this study, EMD residue was mixed with shale and fly ash as the main materials to make solidification/sintering brick. The effects of sintering temperature, sintering time, solid waste content and cooling process on its mechanical properties and toxic elements solidification were investigated according to compressive strength and leaching toxicity."

"This work evaluates the effect of incorporation of an ornamental rock waste into an industrial clayey body used for roofing tiles fabrication. Formulations with 0, 10, 20 and 30 wt.% of waste were prepared by replacing the sand in the industrial clayey body. The plasticity of the formulations was determined by the Atterberg limits. Specimens were fabricated by 18 MPa press-molding and then fired from 850, 950 and 1050°C. The specimens were tested to determine the water absorption, linear shrinkage and three points bending flexural strength. The results indicated that the waste improves the extrusion performance of the clayey body by decreasing its plasticity. The use of the waste was beneficial to the water absorption and mechanical strength of the fired clayey ceramic at 1050°C.IntroductionOrnamental rock is a natural resource available in the municipal area of Santo Antonio de Padua and located 150 km from the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, northe of state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Intense industrial activity related to ornamental stones, especially gneisses, is traditionally occurring in the region. After mining, the flagstone is submitted to sawing to obtain blocks and then, after a manual operation, the final products are small flagstones [1,2]. During the sawing operation, a sludge composed of water and fine particles of rock is generated. A monthly production of 1000 tons of ornamental rock waste is estimated to be produced at Santo Antonio de Padua. The final disposal of this waste has brought serious environmental problems. Since most industries do not have an adequate sludge treatment, the waste is contaminating the soil and underground waters as well as obstructing rivers and lakes.Ceramic bodies industrially fabricated in the municipal area of Campos dos Goytacazes, 280 km from the city of Rio de Janeiro, are still empirically elaborated using a mixture of local clays. These clays are predominantly kaolinitic mineral, associated with high plasticity. Due to the excessive plasticity of the ceramic bodies, it is common to have dimensional defects in the final products after the drying and firing processes. Moreover, the kaolinitic structure and the presence of aluminum hydroxide confer a refractory behavior to the local clays. This impairs sintering during the firing operation. In the case of clay ceramics for civil construction, this results in greater porosity associated with elevated values of water absorption [3,4]. To avoid this problem, it is necessary to reformulate the ceramic body composition. The addition of both non-plastic materials to reduce plasticity and fluxes to condition the refractoriness is a possible alternative."

"Non-isothermal combustion experiments of different additive amount of bituminous (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, 100 wt%) were conducted by synthesized thermogravimetry analyzer(STA409PC) from room temperature to 900°C in air. The changes of combustion characteristic parameters o f pulverized coals in different atmospheres are analyzed. The results show that DTG curves of coal combustion move to low temperature zones when the amount of bituminous increases. It indicates that both ignition and burnout temperature are lower, burnout time decreases, combustion characteristic index obviously increases, and combustion performance of blending coal are improved. The iso-conversional method involving Kissinger-Akah-Sunose (KAS) method was used for the kinetic analysis of the main combustion process. The results indicated that, when the additive amount of bituminous varied from 0 to 100 wt%, the value of activation energy which would sharply reduce if the additive amount of bituminous was under 60% increased from 133.94 kJ•mol-1 to 78.03 kJ•mol-1by using KAS method.IntroductionPulverized coal injection (PCI) to blast furnace (BF) is an important way for saving energy and reducing resource consumption during the ironmaking process. In order to acquire higher coal injection quantity, the relevant research topics in the field of pulverized coal combustion technology such as enhancing the efficiency of pulverized coal combustion, improving the combustion characteristics and reducing the harmful gas emissions and so on received extensive attention in recent years [1,2]. The combustion of blending coal when the appropriate proportion is selected for coal and also mixed well- distributed could give full play to the advantages of various types to make up the defects of single coal which is widely used throughout the world. So the blending coal injection to BF could produce a good impact on safety and economy for productive process. Therefore, a large amount of experimental researches on the combustion characteristic of blending coal for anthracite and bituminous were carried out by experts and scholars around the world [2-7].Nevertheless, the systematic research on the combustion behavior of anthracite with different content of bitumite in a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) is less. So in this paper, using the method of multiple scanning rate of conversion method, bituminous to promote the pulverized coal combustion reaction was studied to analyze its promotion mechanism of pulverized coal combustion reaction process, and the kinetic parameters of activation energy was also calculated, which to provide theoretical basis for the rationalization of resource utilization."

Thiourea is being applied as an industrial leaching agent for gold and silver only in a few cases. A GIP technique was developed which eliminates most of the obstacles against its use. Omission of an acid treatment and mild conditions for precious metals stripping from the loaded carbon simplifies process conditions in comparison to cyanide CIP technique. Examples are given.

"This paper shows the possibility of reutilize paper sludge waste as supplementary cementing material for the cement manufacture. This industrial waste consists essentially of a mixture of organic matter (30%) and inorganic compound, such as calcite and clay minerals. The raw paper sludge does not present pozzolanic properties, but once calcined at 650ºC during 2 hours, exhibits high pozzolanic activity, similar to silica fume at 28 days, as a consequence of the transformation of kaolinite into metakaolinite. Calcined paper sludge was used as partial Portland cement replacements of 0, 5, 10 and 20%. Enhancement in compressive strength was appreciably obtained for 10 and 20% substitution levels from 7 days on. Furthermore, calcined paper sludge slightly reduces the initial and final setting times of cement paste. Introduction Natural pozzolanic materials have been ordinary used in different aspects of construction, mainly for their influence on the microstructure and durability of blended cement matrixes [1, 2]. Due to the regulations of environmental protection, many researches are focusing on the possibility of obtaining pozzolanic materials from industrial wastes and not from natural materials (ceramic wastes, silica fume (SF), activated clays) [3–5]. One of the most used pozzolanic products is the metakaolin (MK) obtained from the activation of natural clay (kaolinite). The positive effect that MK has on blended cement performances [6,7] and also the influence that curing temperature and matrix nature have on the reaction kinetics and stability of hydrated phases produced during the pozzolanic reaction, according to the studies carried out by Frías et al. [8,9] are well known. However, there is a worldwide trend towards the use of recycled products in cement industry. In this line, some authors have reported an alternative way of obtaining MK from waste paper sludge [10-14]. The raw paper sludge (PS), once calcined under controlled conditions (700-800ºC), produces a MK with pozzolanic properties [15-20]. The present research is part of an experimental study about alternative source for MK from the Spanish paper recycling industry and its use as supplementary cementing material. This contribution pays special attention to the option of reducing activation temperature below 700ºC. This fact has a positive effect in reducing the energy consumption, as well as in reducing environmental impacts associated with decarbonation of calcite. The chemical and mineralogical characteristics of raw paper sludge and derived calcined product are described. In addition, the influence and behavior on blended cement properties (setting times and mechanical properties) are also discussed."

"This paper presents a novel anode for oxygen evolution in acidic aqueous solutions to produce non-ferrous metals by electrowinning. The method to prepare the anode was thermal decomposition of a precursor solution, and the obtained anode consisted of Ru02-based oxide catalytic layers formed on a titanium substrate, in which the catalytic layer contains nano-oxide particles as the active component. The oxygen evolution potential was lower than amorphous lr02-Ta20s coated titanium anodes so that the cell voltage of electrowinning was further reduced with the amorphous Ru02-based electrode.IntroductionElectrowinning (EW) is used to produce high purity of non-ferrous metals, and the primary metal production of copper, zinc, nickel, and cobalt by EW consumes huge electric energy worldwide, which tends to increase with increasing demand of such metals. The reduction of electric energy consumption is a significant issue for electrowinning industry, which means that the cell voltage reduction is needed to realize more energy-efficient EW processes. Another issue is also indicated from environmental perspectives; i.e., an improvement in EW plant environment by eliminating hazardous byproducts and wastes. Such byproducts and wastes include lead oxide, manganese oxide, and acid mist.We have been developing the anodes for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly electrowinning processes [ 1-11]. The development has been successfully done with the invention of the smart anode, MSA TM (Morimitsu Smart Anode) [ 1-5], which has low polarization for the main reaction and high polarization for the side reaction, in which the main reaction is oxygen or chlorine evolution, while the side reaction is the anodic deposition of each or both of lead oxide, manganese oxide, and cobalt oxide. The anode consists of a valve metal substrate coated with amorphous or less crystalline oxide catalytic layers. One of the typical examples of such oxides is amorphous lr02-Ta20s, and the substrate is normally titanium plate or mesh. The most important point of the oxide is that the amorphization or less crystallinity induce the increase in the active surface area only to the main reaction, not to the side reaction, thereby the polarization of the main reaction being reduced.In this paper, we present the smart anode consisting of RuO2-based catalyst formed on titanium substrates for oxygen evolution in electrowinning. The preparation, characterization, and polarization behaviors of the anodes are shown, and the cell voltage data for zinc or copper electrowinning using the anodes are also presented."

"Pb-based alloys with Pr and Ag were prepared in vacuum electromagnetic induction furnace. The tensile strength, corrosion rate and anodic potential in sulfate solution were measured, and the experimental data were analyzed according to the metallographic phases of alloys, the micromorphology and composition of their oxide films. The results show that, with the addition of Pr, the ultimate tensile strength and corrosion rate of pure lead were increased, and the anodic potential decreased. The extra addition of Ag can improve the properties of alloy further. Comparing with Pb-Ag0.8 alloy which is widely used in zinc electrowinning industry, the ultimate tensile strength of Pb-Ag0.6-Pr2.0 alloy was increased by 31.75%, the anodic potential under 50mA/cm2 was decreased by 30m V.IntroductionIn zinc electrowinning industry, the Pb-Ag (0.5-1.0 wt.%, 0.8wt.% normally) anode is widely used as an insoluble anode['l. It can meet the basic requirements, but still has several problems such as high oxygen evolution over-potential (about 860mV), unsatisfactory corrosion resistance, lead contamination of the cathode product and high consumption of Ag etc.In order to reduce the energy consumption, enhance the corrosion resistance, improve the product quality and reduce the consumption of Ag (or even dispense with it), much research has been done, mainly focusing on Pb-based alloy anodes and Ti-based coated anodes. Detailed investigations have already been carried out on binary alloys (Pb-Ca and Pb-Co), ternary alloys (Pb-Ag-Ca, Pb-Ag-Ti, Pb-Ag-Sn, Pb-Sr-Sn, and Pb-Ca-Sn) and quaternary alloys (Pb-Ca-Sr-Ag, Pb-Ca-Ce-Ag, and Pb-Ag-Sn-Co)[Z-4l, Although these anodes can effectively reduce the consumption of Ag, only the Pb-Co and Pb-Ag-Sn-Co anodes perform well with regard to reducing the anodic potential. However, their complicated manufacturing conditions restrict further commercial use.Besides its application in nonferrous metal electro-winning industry, Pb-based alloy is also used as grid alloy for lead-acid battery, serving as active materials supporter and current collector. In order to enhance the corrosion resistance and deep-cycling performance, reduce the impedance of the corrosion film, the addition of appropriate rare earth elements into anodic grid alloys has become a research focus. "An electrochemical cell has been designed to treat very diluted cobalt solutions, i.e. those deriving from recycling processes of lithium-ion batteries. A reticulated vitreous carbon sponge was used as cathode and a Pt-coated Ti net as anode. A controlled potential electrolysis has been carried out in a solution flowing in the cell and maintained at a constant pH of 6.5. Considering the cathode dimensions (10.0 cm * 10.0 cm * 1.25 cm), rather high volumes of solution (>1 litre) can be treated with flow rates up to 1.6 l/min. The process yield is obviously related to the solution concentration; it has been observed that, starting with a solution containing 200 ppm of Co2+, the yield is initially ~35-40%, but it decreases to ~20% when 80% of the initial cobalt content has been electrowon. The yield increases up to ~50% if the carbon electrode is coated by cobalt. The conditions allowing a fast and complete removal of cobalt are outlined. Introduction Industrial liquid effluents containing heavy metal ions arise not only during hydrometallurgical processing, but also in many sector of chemical industries utilizing metal catalysts and process reagents. These waste solutions containing low quantities of metallic ions can be treated by chemical precipitation, solvent extraction, ion exchange, etc. before final discharge. All these techniques could be efficient for complying the aqueous effluents with the severe rules related to the environmental impact, but they can not directly produce metals. Particularly the chemical precipitation presents two main drawbacks, huge amount of sludge prodction and reagent costs to produce this useless and sometime dangerous sludge that have to be considered. Electrochemical technologies can be used for the treatment of effluents polluted by metal ions, showing the following advantages in comparison with other processes: 1. recovering of the polluting substances in metallic forms, with subsequent reusing; 2. absence of process slag, which should be subsequently disposed of. In this work an electrochemical reactor with a reticulated vitreous carbon cathode and a platinated titanium net anode has been designed and utilized for removal Co from waste aqueous solutions. Porous materials have been used as electrodes for this cell, as their high specific surface area favours the treatment of these low metal content solutions (1-7). This kind of electrodic material presents very interesting chemical-physical characteristics such as: low density, low thermal expansion and high electrical and thermal conductivities; particularly the reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) presents a very elevated void volume, rigid structure, good resistance to temperatures in non-oxidizing environments and very low resistance to fluid flow."

"The material flow of urban eco-industrial system includes linear flow, recycling flow, branching flow, converging flow, etc., which consequently lead to the system complexity. Comparing the urban eco-industrial system to ecosystem, it can be concluded that this complexity is caused by the system adaptability. In the system, the interaction and adaptability between the agents themselves and between the agents and the environment stimulates the changes of material-flow mode, which lead to the evolvement from traditional industry to the eco-industry. Focusing on the evaluation of this evolvement process, two material-flow models are established in this paper, one of which is for the system itself and the other for the agents in system. The latter model is applied to analyze the interrelationships among mass, energy and pollutant flow in the iron and steel industry, and to make the direction clear to improve the resource and energy efficiency and decrease the environmental load.1 IntroductionIndustrial system is a subsystem of urban system, and they are interconnected and interrelated through material flow. The industrial development causes the urbanization. But the traditional industrial mode, characterized by high consumption, high pollution and low efficiency, also causes the “urban problems”, and leads to the reduction of resources carrying capacity and the increase of environmental load. Nowadays a lot of researches focus on how to realize the sustainable development of industries and cities. Thus comes the urban eco-industrial system guided by industrial ecology.Regarded as a Complex Adaptive System (CAS), the urban eco-industrial system evolves for quite a long time. According to Holland’s description on CAS, CAS consists of adaptive agents, which interact with the environment and other agents, learn and accumulate experiences, and accordingly change their own structures and motion modes. In this way, the evolution of the whole macro system is improved [1]. The evolution from traditional industrial system to urban eco-industrial system is mainly reflected in the variety of internal material flows which include not only linear flows but also recycling flows. Therefore, to construct models which clearly analyze industrial metabolism, is of great importance to evaluate industrial system evolution.The article is organized as follows: Section 2 describes the urban eco-industrial system. Section 3 presents the system-oriented metabolic analysis model and the agent-oriented one, analyze the interrelations of energy flow, material flow and pollutant flow in Chinese iron and steel industry through the latter model, and indicates the directions of improving the resource efficiency and energy efficiency, and decreasing the environmental load. Reddy-Blander (RB) model, a priori, is very useful tool for prediction of impurity capacities of industrial slags. In this study, sulfide capacities (Cs) of 19 lead smelter slags indicated in the literature were calculated and effects of Cs values on sulfur content of lead bullions were discussed.
