The Peñasquito deposit in Mexico is one of the largest grassroots precious metal discoveries to be developed in recent years. Goldcorp Inc. acquired the gold-silver-lead-zinc property with the acquisition of Glamis in 2006. The company has since committed US$1.5 billion to construct the mine, mill and associated facilities. The first of two 50-kt/d (55,000-stpd) mill and flotation lines is currently being commissioned while engineering and construction continues on the second line. A high-pressure grinding roll (HPGR) will ultimately take total throughput to 130 kt/d (142,000 stpd). The Peñasquito property is located in the northeast corner of Zacatecas state, Mexico. The elevation of the property averages 1,900 m (6,200 ft) above sea level and it is situated in a wide east-west valley. Except for one small outcrop (Peñasquito), the area is covered by up to 30 m (98 ft) of alluvium.

A new data set of cobalt-rich ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) crust chemistry has been completed for the first detailed sampling of a latitudinal crossing of the Pacific equatorial zone of high biological productivity. Samples were collected in January-March, 1999, during the AVON 2 cruise aboard the R.V. Melville, Scripps Institute of Oceanography. Samples were collected from 4.6° N to 9.2° S latitudes along two ridges, the Marshall Islands-Gilbert Islands ridge (4.6° N to 3.5° S) and the Howland Island-Tokelau Islands ridge (1° N to 9.2° S). The two ridges are offset east-west in the region of overlapping latitudinal sampling by about 466 km. We determined the concentrations of 48 elements for 147 samples from 39 dredge hauls taken on 33 seamounts and island flanks that occur between the Marshall Islands to the northwest and Samoa to the southeast. Element concentrations can be examined as varying spatially and with water depth in the ocean and we examine those relationships based on statistical analysis of the chemical and spatial data. The mean Fe/Mn ratio of 1 and mean Co content of 4645 ppm are typical of West Pacific hydrogenetic crusts; but the mean Co content is low compared to those of some equatorial North Pacific sites, such as the Marshall Islands and Johnston Island EEZs. In contrast, the mean Cu concentration (1540 ppm) is 35% higher than the mean concentration for Pacific Ocean Fe-Mn crusts (998 ppm). Another striking difference is the 40% higher Ba concentrations (mean 3107 ppm) compared to typical Central and West Pacific crusts (mean 1876 ppm); but Ba concentrations are lower than those in California continental-margin Fe-Mn crusts (mean 4085 ppm). A final significant difference in Fe-Mn crust chemistry is Zr concentrations, mean 921 ppm (maximum 1523 ppm), which is about 30% higher in this data set compared to the previously determined mean value of 613 ppm for Central and West Pacific crusts. Zirconium has a strong positive correlation with Ba and a weak positive correlation with Mn.

Reference to the original use of the terms Laurentian and Huronian (and its extension), shows that the former was applied to granitized sedimentary and metamorphic pre-Cambrian rocks, and the gneissoid igneous rocks associated therewith, and the latter to non-fossiliferous rocks supposed to be later. But it appears from the work of Collins, Quirke and others that there is more or less of an overlap, and that of the original Laurentian the Grenville limestone, and some of the granites, may be later than the lowest part of the original Huronian. Before we can decide whether to abandon one or the other of the two terms, or how to delimit them, it is important to know the extent of this overlap. The Pb :U ratio, though not to be depended upon too minutely, does give a real idea of the age of a mineral as it increases with the decay of uranium, and so is greater the longer the time since the uranium was separated: and there are reasonable prospects of help there from in getting a knowledge of the relative age of different granites to assist in solving the problem, as facts already collected show. 1. In order that the reader may not be misled, I feel it necessary to comment upon the title of this paper. "Laws of Rock Behavior," one may take as being part of the all-embracing "Law of Nature" and this, according to the Oxford Dictionary, relates to the principles of conduct recognized as being pleasing to God. I feel it would be presumptuous to erect a code of rock behavior on this basis, so turn to a secondary definition, namely that a "Law" is that which is intrinsically reasonable. It is extremely unlikely that any group of geologists, or workers in rock mechanics would be in complete agreement about what could be taken to be "intrinsically reasonable." Therefore, this paper does not present any deified utterances, but rather deals with a few aspects of rock behavior which I consider to be intrinsically reasonable and with which I hope the reader will concur. The mode of behavior of rocks in the Earth's crust covers the range from wholly brittle to completely ductile ; with a deformation time scale which may be measured in milliseconds, for some events such as meteoritic impact, or in millions of years for the tectonic deformation involved in mountain building. A complete survey is, of course, outside the scope of an introductory paper, so I must be both brief and selective in my treatment. Any attempt to establish the mode of rock behavior in the Earth's crust should take into account data and relationships established in laboratory experiments and correlate these with field evidence. Consequently, the first section of this paper presents a brief discussion of the experimental aspects of rock mechanics which are pertinent to the subsequent discussion.

Deposits of metals in only slightly disturbed strata have been attributed to sedimentation processes contemporary with deposition of the strata. Recently this origin has been extended' to a greater variety' of deposits and local enrichment has been attributed to selective remobilization of metallic minerals in the host stratum. Effects attending metallization and deformation, and exact age' of the metallization are compiled to establish the sequence of events in ore deposit histories in order to clarify importance of remobilization within a formation relative to introduction from an outside source into an fav¬orable host. The pertinence respectively of deposit; origin and geometry to the work of the mining geologist is reviewed. Dwarf faunas in the Clinton iron ore, Tully pyrite bed and Rammelsberg deposit, indicate abnormal metal ions in the sedimentary environment. Slight¬ly disturbed strata are host rocks in the Swedish Kolm, Timna, Kupferschieffer, and White Pine deposit; the latter two have ore only in conjunction with tectonic structures.

"Metal matrix composite (MMC) with composition of Al-4.Swt.%Cu reinforced by IOwt.%TiB2 or ISwt.%SiC particulate has been successfully fabricated using powder metallurgy technique. Disk, compression and beam specimens were prepared with (a) layered structure containing ductile Al-4.Swt.%Cu with brittle Al-4.Swt.%Cu/TiB2 or Al-4.Swt.%Cu/SiC layers, and (b) homogenous constituent with composition of Al-4.Swt.%Cu/lOwt.%TiB2' The specimens for the fracture toughness measurement were built through three ductile-brittle-ductile alternating layers. For the beam specimens, the layers were built through brittle-ductile-brittle sequence. The brittle layer consisted of Al-4.S%Cu with fixed amount of reinforcement. Fracture toughness testing revealed an increase for layered composites although the total amount of the reinforcement was the same for all disk specimens. The increase in fracture toughness is due to the existence of ductile layers which manifests a strong influence on delaying the occurrence of fracture. It acts as a barrier to resist the propagation of crack and hence increases the fracture toughness of the layered MMC specimens, Delamination in the beam specimens was observed to be due to shear stresses. Fracture surfaces of both disk, compress and beam specimens were characterized using the SEM. IntroductionMechanical and thermal properties can be achieved by the incorporation of refractory secondary phases to constrain the plastic flow of the matrix in a metal matrix composite (MMC). The size of the reinforcement particulate incorporated must be in the range larger than the dislocation cell size and strongly bonded to the matrix (I). Particulate reinforced metal matrix composites hence provide high modulus, improved wear resistance and strength (2-4). Because of the incorporation of refractory phases which are generally brittle, the major limitation in the mechanical properties of MMCs is their limited ductility in comparison to their base metals. Cracks normally initiate from the reinforcement and voids (4, 5). Due to the lack of ductility, cracks propagate rapidly with increase in load. As a result, the interactions between reinforcement particles and propagating cracks have recently been of great research interest (6). In addition, volume fraction of reinforcement and aging condition of the matrix significantly affect the mechanical behaviour of MMCs. In the case of AI-3.5%Cu reinforced with varying volume fractions of SiC particulate, it has been found that the probability of particle fracture increased with increasing volume fraction of reinforcement (7)."

THE primary objective in laying track in panel sections is to reduce the number of track laborers required. This is possible because the work is mechanized. Moreover, because the work is mechanized and each of the operations needs only a few men, and each is self-contained, the work can be carried on at night as well as in daylight; therefore, the method provides a means of preparing tracks on more than one shift. The laying of tracks in open pits and quarries in panel sections is not new but new methods have been made possible by the introduction of new types of equipment. The purpose of this paper is to describe the methods that are followed in' the Morenci open pit. GENERAL MINING OPERATIONS Full-scale ore production at Morenci is about 50,000 tons daily. The normal yearly output of ore and waste is 32,000,000 tons, of which 30,000,000 tons is handled by rail haulage. This requires the building of approximately 47 miles of loading and other temporary tracks during a 12 months' period (Fig I). Broken ore and waste, is loaded., into 90-ton capacity dump cars with 5-cu-yd full-revolving electric shovels. Shovel banks are uniformly 50 ft high:. They are blasted- with churn drill holes, and the broken material from a blast is loaded out with two shovel cuts, the first one being called (locally) the "splatter" cut and the second one the "clean-up" or "face-up" cut. When a shovel is making its clean-up cut, the loading track is about 70 ft from the toe of the bank and, under normal conditions, a bank is blasted against it without removing the track. It is thus evident that each track is used for two shovel cuts before relocation is necessary, inasmuch as a single position serves for both the clean-up cut prior to blasting and for the splatter cut following the blast. The normal advance of a solid bench by a single blast is 40 ft (Fig 2). PREPARATION OF PANEL GRADE In preparation of panel grades bulldozers and rooters are used for the bulk of the work and an auto-patrol road grader for the final stage. At Morenci, bulldozers have always been used for track-grade preparation, but before the introduction of the other two types of equipment grades were uneven and irregular at best, and always necessitated a big gang of track laborers to hand-block under the ties with rocks after a track was laid into place. High blocking also made poor track because of instability and caused frequent derailments. Under these conditions derailments were generally bad as re-railing became difficult. Much track was torn up and many ties broken in the process. The inadequacy of the hand-blocked track, together with the inefficiency of hand blocking, constantly pointed to the desirability of reducing the amount of labor required, so various means were tried to improve conditions, such as wood

The liquid crystal display (LCD) are currently known by its vast application in electro ? electronic devices, amongst them can be detached the devices of TV, laptops, electronic date, calculators and even though the mobile telephones (mobiles). The mobiles are changed more frequent of the TV for example, this happens due to the technology advance. With the constantly mobile exchange, the batteries, printed circuit board and liquid crystal display accumulation its become an environmental problem. To minimize the environmental impacts caused by mobile telephones residues are considered the segregation process of the LCDs main components, to goal to recover the recycle material. This process involves the use of treatment ore techniques with disc, hammers and balls mills. The process with best efficiency (about 98%) of LCD glass release was the hammers mill. The glass recovered can be used in the glass recycling and the sand substitution in the production of concrete blocks.

INTRODUCTION In 1975 Congress passed the Energy Conservation Act to establish a U. S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) with a capacity of 750 million barrels of crude oil. The most economic storage medium was determined to be salt caverns leached in salt domes in Louisiana and Texas. Salt caverns existed at several sites when the reserve was created. These were obtained by the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) and used to initiate SPR oil storage. In order to meet the storage capacity approved by Congress, new caverns also had to be leached. To support the resulting design effort, finite element computer programs have been used to determine the creep closure and structural stability of salt caverns Using site specific material properties including creep models, elastic moduli and fracture data, the finite element analyses have replaced earlier empirical approaches to cavern design. This report presents results of such finite element analyses to determine the best cavern roof shape and the minimum pillar to diameter ratio, P/D. These numerical predictions indicate that the current cavern design is safe. FINITE ELEMENT AND MATERIAL MODELING The finite element program used in this study has existed for approximately four years. "The gold recovery of a Mexican cyanidation plant, in Sonora, has been decreasing due to the increasing presence of gold tellurides. This work presents the results of different processes aimed to recover the remaining gold from the cyanidation tailings of the operation. The cyanidation in the mine is performed at 0.1 g/L NaCN and pH = 10.3, adjusted with lime. The treatments studied in the laboratory with these tailings were: cyanidation at higher cyanide concentration than that used in the plant, cyanidation with oxygen injection, cyanidation with oxygen and lead nitrate addition, and thiourea leaching. The results obtained with each of these treatments are presented and discussed with the final objective of proposing a method to recover the gold associated with tellurium.INTRODUCTION It has been demonstrated that gold telluride is refractory to the conventional cyanidation process and, for this reason, some alternative methods to recover precious metals from tellurides have been proposed. (Zhang et al., 2010). These include cyanidation with modified conditions or the use of non-cyanide leaching agents. This work presents the gold leaching results of tests performed with a sample of cyanidation tailings obtained from a Mexican deposit containing telluride species. The mine exploits a mesothermal deposit with a molar Te/Au ratio of 1, containing also lead, molybdenum, bismuth and tungsten. Gold is recovered from the ore by standard cyanidation, however, lately the gold recovery has decreased, likely due to the tellurium content of the ore. The sample used in this work was the cyanidation tailings of this deposit. It was treated in the plant by cyanide heap leaching (0.1 g/L NaCN, pH = 10.3 adjusted with lime). Some gold remained after the cyanidation and it was thought that this gold was associated with tellurium. The objective of this work was the recovery of the remaining gold from the tailings by an alternative process."

At Trail, British Columbia, Cominco's zinc leaching and solution purification processes include direct pressure leaching of zinc concentrates, leaching of fume from the lead smelter, leaching of calcine and electrolyte purification. These processes have been adapted to match the unique characteristics of Cominco's integrated zinc and lead operations. Recent modifications include changes to the purification process and iron-residue handling circuits. In 1997, a new five-compartment autoclave, complete with ancillary equipment, was installed in the pressure leaching plant. This paper discusses these changes, the current flowsheet and further improvements.

"Colombian nickel laterites have historically been processed by pyrometallurgy. However, due to the depletion in ore grades, alternative processes are required. Hydrometallurgical processes, such as pressure acid leaching, have been proposed as alternatives to extract nickel from deposits with suitable characteristics. Such a leaching process requires high concentrations of acid to achieve acceptable extractions, and is not selective. In this study, an alternative aqueous alkaline glycine system has been employed to evaluate the leaching behaviour of a Colombian nickel laterite which contains 1.15% Ni, 0.12% Co and 41.1% Fe. Additionally, the effect of the addition of chloride ions, the use of a reducing agent and the application of a pre-treatment to improve the extraction of nickel were evaluated. Extractions of 4.63% Ni, 42.16% Co and 0.33% Fe were obtained using a 1M solution of glycine at pH 9. In addition, an increase in nickel extraction from 4.63% to 25.68% was achieved by applying a pre-treatment to the sample. The results show that even though nickel dissolution was much slower than in acid leaching, it was selective over other metals such as iron, proving the proposed method to have potential as a process for the extraction of nickel from Colombian laterites.INTRODUCTION Before 2010, most of the industrial operations used pyrometallurgical processes for the extraction of nickel, mainly in saprolitic regions of deposits, with greater contents of the metal. Nevertheless, due to the gradual depletion of such deposits, different hydrometallurgical processes have been studied as alternatives to process those nickel laterites with low grade and those which present problems of refractoriness due to the presence of acid consuming materials (McDonald & Whittington, 2008; Oxley & Barcza, 2013; Wang et al., 2012). However, such leaching processes require high concentrations of acid to achieve acceptable extractions and they are not selective. Facing lateritic nickel ore deposits containing high levels of acid consuming materials, an alkaline leaching medium becomes an advantageous alternative over acidic media, due to the increase in selectivity and decreased corrosiveness and reagent consumption (Tanda, Eksteen, & Oraby, 2017). Unlike conventional acidic reagents used for metal recovery, alkaline reagents can selectively dissolve the desired metal, leaving in the solid residue other elements such as iron, magnesium and aluminum, which are problematic in subsequent stages of metals separation and recovery. Furthermore, there are no serious corrosion problems associated with alkaline leaching, even at higher reagent concentrations, or at elevated temperature and pressure (Ntumba Malenga, Mulaba-Bafubiandi, & Nheta, 2015)."

"A low-grade nickel-bearing ore was pre-concentrated on a SB40 laboratory model Falcon Concentrator. Three size fractions, -212+125, -125+75 and -75 µm were tested with the intent to upgrade the nickel content by reducing their content of fine silica, which becomes amorphous during leaching. Separation of silica from nickel-bearing magnesium silicate minerals; hornblende, clinochlore and talc, was more efficient in the finer particle sizes, -125+75 and -75 µm, and at high G-forces. For these two size fractions, nickel was upgraded from 0.06 to 0.07%, with a reduction in silica content from 52.12 to 50.71%. Leaching of feed samples prior to pre-concentration resulted in the formation of amorphous silica, indicative of the presence of fine silica in the samples. Leaching of nickel from the -125+75 µm fraction increased with increasing G-force and feed pulp percent solids, while that of -75 µm was not influenced. The optimum nickel recovery was 15.68% to the Falcon underflow, using the feed size fraction of -75 µm, 30 G and a feed pulp solids content of 10% solids, after 120 minutes of treatment.INTRODUCTION A low-grade South African nickel-bearing ore with about 0.06% Ni was previously studied for atmospheric pressure acid leaching using sulphuric acid. The study was motivated by the continuing search for methods to treat of low-grade ores, which appear to be an increasingly important source of valuable metals as a result of a declining production from rich sulphide ores. Nickel is a base metal that is used as an alloy in steelmaking and chemical industries because of its resistance to corrosion (Haudet et al., 2015). Nickel laterite ores with grades lower than 1.50% Ni are considered to be complex ores, accounting for 70% of the global nickel reserves (MacCarthy et al., 2016). Their complex nature may be attributed to the indefinite mineralogy of these ores, in which nickel may occur in more than one mineral host. In some cases, nickel may be finely disseminated in the ore. The grade of such an ore and complex mineralogy do not justify the application of pyrometallurgical methods for extraction of nickel (Zhu et al., 2012). This suggests that there is a need for less expensive alternative methods of extraction. This study investigates the application of centrifugal gravity concentration, using the Falcon concentrator, followed by leaching to determine the effect of pre-concentration of the ore prior to extraction by atmospheric pressure leaching with sulphuric acid."

Refractory copper ores (CROs) in central Africa contain copper minerals that are locked up in a micacious solid matrix or associated with carbonate, sulfide and phosphate minerals. Several researchers have reported that the recovery of copper from CRO material by an acid-leaching process is not economically feasible, due to the presence of excess gangue-acid-consuming minerals such as calcites, dolomite, asbolane and iron oxides. Since the proportion of acid-insoluble copper (CuS) is about 28% of total copper and total free sulfur is extremely small, sulfide flotation was considered unfavorable. Consequently, hundreds of millions of tons of CRO material have been stockpiled specifically at the Nchanga Mine of Zambia. In terms of copper distribution in CRO material, a significant portion of total copper exists as carbonates (39%) and oxides (17%), while 28% of the copper is acid-insoluble (CuS). The rest of the copper is in the form of carbonates (16%) and (hydr) oxides (17%). This means that only about 72% of total copper is recoverable through the non-oxidative acid-leaching process. In this study, batch leach tests were performed on CRO solids (d95 = 95%) to establish the gangue acid consumption values at different feed pH values and to evaluate the leaching characteristics of copper, manganese and iron within the CRO material. Subsequently, continuous leach tests were performed on CRO solids (106 um, 80% passing) using optimum leach conditions derived from batch tests. This paper aims to show that sustainable copper recovery can be achieved by selecting leaching conditions whereby gangue acid consumption (GAC) values become significantly small and the final concentration of manganese and iron in the leach solution are appreciably low.

Considering the subtractive trend of the sulfide and high-grade zinc ores in worldwide and also in Iran, Nowadays special attentions have been drawn to the extraction of zinc from its other resources such as low-grade oxide ores and secondary resources. Oxide ore of the eastern part of Mehdi-abad lead and zinc mine is silicate and has an average grade of 7% (with cut off grade of 4%). Main mineral of the Mehdi-abad ore is Hemimorphite and this mineral is associated with Goethite, Hematite, Ferrous Dolomite, and Manganese oxide mineral so that oxides of Iron, manganese and silica include almost 50% of the total ore. In this paper, the results obtained from the leaching kinetic study of the low-grade zinc oxide ore using Sulfuric acid are presented. The effects of particle size, reaction temperature, acid concentration, and solid percent on the dissolution rate have been investigated. The results obtained from the Taghochi approach showed that the zinc recovery is about 78% under the following optimized conditions: particle size: 106µm, leaching time: one hour, temperature: 45°C, acid concentration: 15% and solid percent: 15%. Kinetics study was revealed that zinc minerals leaching controlled by diffusion rate through the product layer during leaching time with the activation energy of 5 KJ/mol and compliance with the 1- (2/3. x) ? Gold leaching from a commercial cyanide-amenable gold ore was studied at 25°C using sodium bisulfide-hydrogen sulfide solutions containing elemental sulfur. Gold extraction from the ore using 0.55 M NaSH, 4.1 atm (60 PSI) H2S, 1 g/L S8 and 26% solids by weight was about as good as the best extraction obtained by cyanidation. Maximum extraction was achieved in roughly 48 hours. Sulfur dissolves in the bisulfide solutions to form a mixture of polysulfides. Simple speciation calculations indicate that gold solubility as bisulfide complexes should be roughly ten times higher than in the absence of added zerovalent sulfur. The principal bisulfide complex is believed to be [Au(HS)2]-. Gold dissolution is favoured by increasing HS- concentration and by increasing H25 pressure. Polysulfide complexes of gold are also likely to be formed, and may contribute substantially to gold leaching. Two experiments using pure gold were also performed. Up to 100 mg/L gold was dissolved in 140 hours using 0.55 M NaSH, 1 g/L added elemental sulfur and 6.2 atm H2S.

"The oxidized and mixed ores are processed by heap leaching. Primary ores with high gold content are floated. In recent years mining of primary ores with the low gold content (up to 4 ppm) has increased. Extraction of gold from these ores by floatation is technologically ineffective. Gravity concentration is ineffective for fine gold particles because of their floatability. The research objective was assessment of the viability of processing gold-bearing ore with combined gravitational and hydrometallurgical methods and testing of recovery of metals from a gold-copper oxidized ore chloride-hypochlorite leaching solution. The advantage of chloride-hypochlorite lixiviant is the low cost of reagents which is produced by the electrochemical synthesis of NaCl solution with the addition of HCl. The adsorption of chlorine compounds by a mineral matrix and its ability to oxidize the refractory ore components and allows for the application of chloride-hypochlorite systems for gold recovery for both oxidized and primary ores. The complexity and problem in using a gold–chloride system is the strong adsorption of gold–chloride complexes onto mineral surfaces, such as goethite, quartz, and alumina. In preliminary testing, gold recovery from gravity circuit gold bearing concentrates processed by agitation leaching in chloride-hypochlorite solution, gold recovery has reached up 82% after 4 hours of leaching. Chloride-hypochlorite leaching of copper-gold oxidized ore with preliminary processing by sulfuric acid provided for 94 % gold recovery to solution. Understanding of ecological hazard of cyanides is the motive power of researches in the field of search non-cyanic chemistries to provide for technologically and economically effective solvents of gold. Soluble compounds of chlorine with a suitable oxidizer are one of the alternatives to cyanides. Basic researches of gold extraction by chloride-hypochlorite solution have shown high rates of gold recovery.INTRODUCTION Because of the continued and growing environmental concern for the use of cyanide for gold processing, interest for the use of non-cyanide lixiviants, especially with halides has renewed recently (Tran et al., 2001; Ferron et al., 2003; Bhaghalha, 2007). Leaching solutions based on halides (chloride, bromide and iodide) are viable alternative to cyanide (Kwang et al., 2008). The major disadvantage of the chlorine–chloride system is the high reactivity of chlorine in reaction with sulfide and gangue carbonate minerals. It is believed that only high grade materials may be treated by chlorine–chloride systems economically (Baghalha, 2007). Another important problem of the application of gold–chloride complex is that it tends to be rather unstable and may re-precipitate upon contact with a reductant, such as sulfidic minerals of ore. It is well known that Au(III)–chloride hydrolysis species are strongly adsorbed by goethite, quartz, and alumina (Machfsky et al., 1991). To minimize adsorption of gold–chloro complexes, it works best to minimize the adsorption time."

DURING 1919, in the face of high cost for labor and supplies and a rapidly dropping copper market, the management of the Ohio Copper Co. of Utah was left with an orebody that had been shown to be very low grade, and a mill that could not make a satisfactory recovery, even by flotation, because a considerable proportion of the copper minerals was oxidized. About seven million tons had been mined by the use of a caving system, the best of the broken ore extracted and milled, and the nature and copper content of the rest of the orebody fairly well determined. The rock of the whole mine was shown to run between 0.3 and 1.3 per cent. in. copper. As, the Ohio Copper orebody lies at the contact of the original sandstone (now altered to quartzite) with the quartz monzonite intru-sion that was the source of the mineralization at Bingham Canon, the rock was thoroughly shattered. It was shown further that the rock was mostly quart-zite, with a few quartz-monzonite "fingers" projecting into it. Although some of the old cleavage planes had been healed by resilicification so as to leave some of the copper minerals disseminated in the rock, a large proportion of these minerals was distributed along the cleavage planes.
