"The wastewater emitted by gold chemical industry contained vast of different heavy metal ion, such as Zn, Cu and Ni etc. Among them Zn is the main ion in the waste water which causes the serious environment pollution. A method of preparing a kind of resin which is used for the removal of Zn by magnetic adsorbent was developed and was applied in practice. This adsorbent is a chitosan made of a kind of Fe3O4-chitosan modified by epichlorohydrin. The adsorption capacity of the absorbent and it was concluded that under the laboratory conditions, the maximum adsorbing capacity of this adsorbent could be 287.58 mg/g. The absorbent was also applied in the wastewater emitted by a gold industry in Shandong province. Its performance was tested and the result showed that the concentration of Zn ion in the wastewater was reduced from 0.58 mg/L to 0.0174 mg/L. What is more, the adsorption rate could be more than 97% when the dosage was 100L/m3 after adsorbing for 1h. Many different metals participate to this reaction besides the gold ion in this processing, so that the composition of the water is very complex. The waste water emitted by gold chemistry industry contains large amount of heavy metals. Definitely, if it was discharged without any treatment, the water would threaten the environment. The recuperation of any ion in the water would mitigate the pollution. Ion exchange resin, which is an effective material to do the water treatment with low cost, became widely applicated in this field [Yu-jiao Wang,2013]. Different kinds of resin were developed and the influence factors such as pH, adsorption properties and selectivity for different ions were investigated [CA Cruz et al,2018; PawanKumar et al.2016; Y Zhang, et al,2010; and ShengingSun, Aiqin Wang, 2006;]. The waste water mentioned in this article has a high Zn concentration, so a magic resin for Zn adsorption selectively we designed was used to manage this water. And the recovery of Zn could not only contribute to pollution abatement but also a best way to settle a dispute to the short of Zn resource. So the article mainly describes the preparation and the application of a kind of magnetic adsorbent used for the removal of Zn both in laboratory and industry. The recovery of zinc in refineries is strongly affected by the formation of zinc ferrites during the roasting of zinc concentrates. To achieve the highest zinc recovery most of these plants operate under high acidity and high temperature conditions in their leaching circuits. However, under these conditions high iron dissolution occurs. For iron control the common practice is to precipitate it as jarosite, and calcine is normally used as neutralizing agent. This practice causes a significant loss of metal values associated with the calcine, such as zinc ferrites and silver insoluble phases. These metal values are carried by the jarosite into confined waste in many plants. In order to diminish such losses, it is necessary to use a neutralizing agent that could substitute the use of calcine. An alternative neutralizing could be the basic zinc sulfate (BZnS). This work presents the results of a laboratory analysis on the required conditions for the BZnS production from process streams of a zinc refinery plant. Neutralizing behavior of BZnS was evaluated in iron precipitation as jarosite, in order to establish the feasibility of replacing the calcine and decrease the loss of zinc and other metals values during the iron removing step of the hydrometallurgical circuit of the zinc refinery under study.

Steel slag is an inevitable by-product from a steelmaking furnace such as a converter, an open-hearth furnace or an electric arc furnace. The yield of steel slag increases with the sharp rise of steel production. Utilizing the slag effectively and comprehensively is one of the important tasks to promote the development of iron and steel industry in China in a sustainable and efficient way. In this study, hot-poured steel slag from a converter was used to prepare ceramics by mixing with fly ash, microsilica, and quartz. After heating at 1100–1200 °C, the ceramics were well sintered. XRD revealed that multiple crystalline phases coexisted in the glass-ceramics, and the main crystalline phases were diopside and anorthite. SEM observation indicated that there was a plate-columnar composite structure in the ceramics. Reaction mechanisms were discussed.

"A partially-stabilized zirconia powder was prepared by metalorganic precipitation process from technical-grade zirconium oxychloride and the effluent of an acrylic acid plant. The effluent contained low molecular weight carboxylic acids, i. e., acrylic acid and acetic acid. The· developed process is based on the selective precipitation of acrylic acid at suitable pH values by the addition of zirconium oxychloride to the effluent. The resulting precipitate is a precursor that can yield a pure, ultrafine, and partially-stabilized zirconia powder. The evolution of formation of the partially-stabilized zirconia in the present process was investigated using thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction technique. Environmental, technological and cost advantages will make the present process feasible for manufacturing advanced zirconia ceramics.IntroductionIn recent years the superior mechanical, thermal, electrical and chemical properties of stabilized zirconia have become the focus of growing scientific and technological interest, and hence resulted in various structural and functional applications. Activated carbons, derived from waste ion-exchange resin by CO2 physical activation, were applied to separate CO2 from flue gas against global warming. The BET specific surface areas of activated carbons at different activation temperatures and times were investigated. The CO2 adsorption capacity was tested under non-isothermal and isothermal conditions. The experimental results show that when keeping the activation temperature constant, the specific surface area increases firstly and then decreases with increasing activation time. For the given activation time, the specific surface area rises firstly and then declines with increasing activation temperature. The adsorption capacity decreases with increasing temperature. The maximum adsorption capacity is 51.46 mg/g under the condition of 298 K and pure CO2. Fractional order kinetic model is the best one to describe the kinetics of CO2 adsorption. The activated carbons show the potential to be an effective adsorbent for the removal of CO2 from flue gas.

According to XRD, DTA and SEM detections, the hydration products of blast furnace slag (BFS) based cementing material SL, SLG. were studied in different age periods. The XRD analysis of cementing material SL hydration products showed that the composition of hydration products were mainly amorphous substances, few crystalline substances. Characteristic peak of ettringite hadn?t been found in the spectral line of DTA, and it hadn?t been found in the figures of SEM, either, which was accordant with the conclusion that the cementing performance of SL mainly coming from gel of hydrated calcium silicate (CSH) and hydrated calcium aluminate. However, the main hydration products of SLG are Aft, CSH, and AFm, which are similar to Portland cement. All results suggest that BFS is a suitable base material for cementation. This work aims to incorporate Mgbee clay, vegetal fibre (Costus afer) in recycled low density polyethylene (rLDPE). The incorporation of clay and vegetal fibre in rLDPE was carried out using a twin screw extruder machine and the nanocomposites were obtained. The nano composites were characterized by the Young’s modules test, tensile tests, bending test, XRD, SEM, DSC, and TG and other properties evaluated. The results of morphological and thermal properties showed a good interaction between the clay, and rLDPE as compared to neat rLDPE.

Synthesis of fibrous Ni-Co alloy powders was achieved by thermal decomposition of precursor of complex Ni-Co oxalates solid solutions obtained via modified coprecipitation method among intimate mixing solution of NiCl2?6H2O , CoCl2?6H2O and H2C2O4?2H2O in the presence of surfactant polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) and organic solvent ethanol. Scan electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), disperse energy X-ray analyses (EDX) were used to characterize the structure features and chemical compositions of the as-prepared fibres. The influences of decomposition conditions, including temperature, time, the flow rate of N2+H2, and the heating rate, on the morphology, average size and specific surface area of the Ni-Co alloy powders were investigated. It is found that a trend of the mutual alloying of nickel and cobalt: the formation of perfect solid solution for any compositions NixCo100-x was indicated and corresponding NixCo100-x alloys with fcc phase can be obtained under the optimal conditions.

"The high-magnetization microspheres of Fe3O4 encapsulated with S1O2 and T1O2 layers (Fe3O4@SiO2@TiO2) were prepared. The microspheres were characterized by transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. These high-magnetization microspheres could be readily dispersed by shaking whereas they could be rapidly separated from the aqueous solution simply by applying an external magnetic field. The two shells of S1O2 and T1O2 protected the iron oxide well and the microspheres were stable in acid and base solutions. Therefore, they have a good potential for the enrichment of phosphopeptides or photocatalytic activity. They could also be used to remove metal ions from waste water.IntroductionSolid-phase extraction (SPE) is the most commonly used separation technique for its simplicity, consumption of small volumes of organic solvent, and the ability to achieve a higher enrichment factor. The quest for new adsorbents is an important factor in improving analytical sensitivity and precision in SPE techniques. To date, many novel adsorbents, such as nanometer-sized materials, carbon nanotubes, mesoporous materials and magnetic nanoparticles have been employed in SPE.Magnetic polymeric microspheres, an interesting advanced composite material, have received increasing attention in the past few decades because of their unique physical and chemical properties and their potential for use in applications in various fields [1]. Magnetic microspheres consisting of an iron oxide core and a silica shell have attracted particular attention for their unique magnetic response, low cytotoxicity, and chemically modifiable surface. The core-shell magnetic silica microspheres have shown great potential in the fields of biotechnology and biomedicine for applications such as cell labeling and separation, enzyme and protein separations, targeted drug delivery, and magnetic ferrofluids hyperthermia."

To reduce coke consumption in blast furnace ironmaking, this study proposed a new method of applying iron-coke briquette prepared using hematite powder and pulverized coal to protect coke in BF iron making. Results showed that, with a ratio of hematite to coal of 2.0, the iron-coke briquette could obtain a satisfying compressive strength of more than 1500 N both before gasification and after being gasified by CO2 for 1 h. The activation energy of the iron-coke briquette was 93–135 kJ/mol, which is lower than the coke and therefore could protect the coke in BF. The agglomeration and stratification of iron particles occur in the course of iron-coke briquette gasi fication and is bene ficial to the improvement of the iron-coke briquette strength.

"IntroductionThe advantages of non-stoichiometric perovskite material are highlighted in many papers[l]and many of this family of materials are well-suited to integration into microsensor devices. Among them, barium titanate is the most promising due to it's piezoelectric, pyroelectric, dielectric properties. Through modification, BaTiO3-based materials can be utilized in many kinds fields, such as surface wave probe; pholoconducting devices, field-effect transistor, permanent memory permanent storage, and ultrasonic transducerl2-3l. In this Paper, a series of BaTiO3-based polycrystals were synthesized by sol-gel processing which appears to be a very promising method for the manufacture of ceramic, because it offers significant advantages such as high purity, chemical homogeneity, controlled particle sizes of ceramics, and lower processing temperatures [4]. In a sol-gel process, alkoxides of the constituent elements show different reactivity toward water so that the preparation of multi-component homogenous system is difficult. In the experiment, inorganic salt was substituted for some of the alkoxides. Acetic acid which is employed for the solvent and catalyst, acts as donor ligand to titanium alkoxide and controls, the hydrolysis polycondensation reaction. Taking these aspects into consideration, we select the system Ba(OAc)2, , La(OAc)3, Ti(O11Bu)4 and acetic acid which is used as both solvent and homogeneous catalyst for the first time.ExperimentalA series of La3+-doped BaTiO3-based nano-crystals were prepared with sol-gel technology using various parameters. The precursor solution was prepared in the presence of barium acetate, lathanium acetate, and titanium tetrabutoxide monomer in butyl alcohol. According to the flow chart (fig. I.), Ba(OAc)2, La(OAch dissolved in the glacial acetic acid (0. lmol/40ml) in a three-neck flask were mixed with a solution of titanium tetrabutoxide monomer in butyl-alcohol(l 7ml/20ml) at room temperature and under constantly, vigorous stirring conditions. In most cases, the resultant solution was golden yellow and stable in the air. To this precursor solution, containing Ba, La, Ti in the desired ratio, water was added incrementally for hydrolysis under continuous stirring until sol was formed. After aging for more than 2 hours, sol was transformed to gel at room temperature. If heated during aging, the gel was formed in a shorter time. The wet gel was allowed to dry at 50°C for more than 10 hours. The dried gel was transparent or light yellow. In order to obtain BaTiO3-based nano-crystals, the amorphous dry gel was calcined at 600°C, 700°C, 800°C, 900°C, 1000°C respectively[5]. The ceramic humidity sensor was formed through the cold-pressed, aged, capsulated routes. The dried gels were crushed in an agate mortar and then pressed into discs of ? 1.5 X l.5mm (l.5mm diameter and l.5mm thickness), then held at about 16.5 MPa pressure for 3 min [6]. The disc was sintered at 1350°C and 1400°C for I hour respectively. During the processing, an Ag-Pt electrode was inserted in the sensor [7]. (See the flow chart.)"

Blast furnace slag (BFS), one kind of typical solid waste in the steel industry, was used as structural materials to synthesize NaNO3/BFS composite phase change materials (C-PCMs) by mixing and sintering method. NaNO3 in the composites functioned as phase change materials (PCMs) and BFS as structural skeleton to maintain a stable external form. In this study, the prepared C-PCMs could remain in the solid state without salt leakage even if operating temperature exceeded the melting temperature of NaNO3. The composition and structure of BFS and the prepared composites were characterized by XRD, FTIR, SEM and TG-DSC analyses. The results showed that NaNO3 was well incorporated in the pores of BFS. The melting temperature and latent heat of the final composites were 300.5 °C and 65.53 J/g, respectively. The product also had good thermal storage performance and durability even after 100 thermal cycles. The energy density of the product was calculated as high as 468.03 J/g for an temperature range of 50–400 °C.

Natural rubber/organophilic clay nanocomposites were prepared and characterized. A brown bentonite from Paraiba’s State, Brazil was modified with a sodium salt and treated with quaternary ammonium salt hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium chloride. The clay in its natural state, after cation exchange with sodium and after organophilization was characterized by XRD, IR, SEM, thermal analysis. Nanocomposite samples were prepared containing 10 resin percent of organophilic clay. The vulcanized samples were analyzed by XRD, SEM. The nanocomposites obtained showed improvement in their mechanical properties in comparison with samples without clay.

"This work presents the preparation and characterization of a nanocomposite based on Poly(butylene terephthalate) PBT and Brazilian smectitic clay (bentonite chocolate clay). Before being incorporated as clay nanoparticles in PBT resin, the clay was organically modified by the addition of a quaternary salt and sodium carbonate. PBT/Clay nanocomposite (96.3:3.70 wt %) was obtained by using a twin-screw extruder machine. After extrusion process, the nanocomposite was characterized by tensile, flexural and impact tests, SEM, Vicat, HDT, DSC, TGA and XRD tests. The results showed that the properties of the nanocomposite obtained were superior to those of neat PBT. Concerning the temperature of thermal distortion (HDT) an expressive gain of around 45 % was presented to PBT/Clay nanocomposite compared to PBT evidencing the interaction of nanofiller with the polymeric matrix.IntroductionPolymer-clay nanocomposites, also called as polymer layered silicates nanocomposites have attracted much attention from both industry and academia over the past decade because they frequently exhibit unexpected properties. In contrast to the traditional fillers, nanofillers, in particular, nanoclay, is found to be effective. The addition of a small amount (< 5 wt.%) can show significant improvement in mechanical, thermal and barrier properties, flammability resistance, and electrical/electronic properties of the final polymer nanocomposite without requiring special processing techniques. Also, as with other nano-size particles, the overall crystallization rate and the glass transition temperature are also affected. It is generally believed that the improvement of properties of nanoclay composites is directly related to the complete exfoliation of silicate layers in the polymer matrix. However, a processing technique that produces complete exfoliation is still a technical challenge [1,2]."

The world nowadays faces many challenges associated with excessive utilization of fossil, fuels, such as poor air quality and greenhouse gas emissions. Hydrogen appears to be an attractive alternative to the conventional, fossil, fuels with better energy efficiency and less environmental, impact. Pd and Pd-based alloy are the most often used membranes for hydrogen separation due to their superiority over other membranes. However, the stability of the commonly-used thin Pd-based composite membranes at high temperatures still, remains a big challenge. In this presentation, we will, report our progress on thin Pd-Ru alloy composite membrane by electroless plating high temperature applications.

Polyethylene is widely used for packing applications. Different grades of polyethylene, LLDPE and LDPE play a major role in the film blowing industry. The use of nanoclay in polymer matrices (non-polar) requires the use of a compatibilizer agent, ethylene graft maleic anhydride copolymer (PE-g-MA), which acts as a bridge for nanoclay-matrix-interaction. In our study, blown films of LLDPE, LDPE, and their blends were produced using a twin screw extruder. The combination of PEs as matrix, montmorillonite (MMT) and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) intended to improve mechanical and thermal properties. Nanocomposites films with 1 wt% of montmorillonite and 0.5–1.0 wt% silver nanoparticles were prepared by blow extrusion and evaluated. Nanoclay intercalation/exfoliation degree was investigated by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Mechanical and thermal properties were evaluated. The results showed optimum dispersion at intercalation/exfoliation levels for polyethylene nanocomposite (PENC), slight increasing in mechanical and especially improvement in thermal properties.

Based on Thermogravimetric and Differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA), porous copper powder is prepared by thermal decomposition of complicated copper oxalate. The effects of various conditions on the morphology, crystalline grain size and specific surface area of copper powder were investigated, including temperature, duration, mixing ratio of nitrogen and hydrogen. Furthermore, composition and morphologies of the products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and BET adsorption isotherm. It is found that porous copper powder was produced under optimum conditions. The specific surface area is over 6.74 m2?g-1, and average pore size in particles is about 30.3 nm. After comparison of SEM images, the final product Cu well inherits the morphology of the precursor, thus a mechanism of in-situ decomposition is proposed.

"Porous Ni-Ti alloy has many applications in a wide range of engineering areas. The porous NiTi alloys were prepared from Ti and Ni powders in sintering process under argon atmosphere. The major chemical compositions of the sintered Ni-Ti body were Ni Ti, Nh Ti4O and Nh Ti, respectively, the internal pore structures were characterized by image analysis technique, which were dependent on various processing parameters such as sintering temperature, amount of poreforming agent, forming pressure, etc. The results show that the porous alloy samples had the characteristics of uniform pore and high open porosity; pore-forming agent and sintering temperature are important factors in porous; pressure affected the sintered products' pore, by affecting the combination of alloy powder with pore-forming agent.IntroductionPorous Ni-Ti alloy materials exhibit not only excellent shape-memory and superelasticity, high yield strength and ductility, good corrosion resistance and biocompatibility, but also have low density, low stiffness, and high energy absorption rate due to their porous structures [1]. In recent years, these porous Ni-Ti alloys have found applications in a wide range of engineering areas, such as bone implants [2-4], impedance-matching connectors [5], energy-absorbing structures [6,7], separators [8] and actuators [9], etc.Pore characteristics can play very important role in determining of the performance of porous NiTi alloys. For example, when the alloys are used to repair or replace hard tissue implant material, the pore shape and size not only determine their mechanical properties, but also have great effect on the fluid transmission of human body. The pore characteristics can also influence the stressstrain behavior of the porous Ni-Ti alloy and, thus, strongly affect their mechanical properties, superelasticity, and fracture mechanisms [10].In this study, the Ni-Ti alloys with high porosity were prepared in a powder sintering process under argon gas. The pore characteristics were investigated using SEM, XRD and image analysis techniques, especially in association with the content of pore-forming agent, sintering temperature and compacting pressure."

Composite phase change materials are widely used in energy-saving and energy efficient process. Nano-encapsulated phase change materials are especially significant for making advanced working fluid applicable to waste heat recovery or storage. In this study, silica-coated stearic acid (SA) Nano composite phase change materials were prepared from tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) and stearic acid (SA) via sol-gel process. The materials were investigated by Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), Transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and Differential scanning calorimeter (DSC).The FE-SEM and TEM results show that monodisperse microspheres with stable core– shell structure were formed and SA was encapsulated in the silicon dioxide shell. The FT-IR results show that there were no chemical reaction between silicon dioxide and SA, which is the chemical property of the composite material, is stable. The DSC results show that the composite phase change material has favorable heat capacity.
