"SynopsisGoing beyond transformation claims contained in employment equity scorecards and industry compliance reports, this article provides qualitative insight into the initiatives employed and challenges experienced by mining companies in a quest to transform the mining industry. Perceptions expressed during in-depth interviews with 10 senior executives showed that the assumption that mining companies are reluctant to transform is erroneous. Results from this study suggest buy-in and commitment to transformation. This article describes specific initiatives undertaken by mining companies to transform. The most notable initiatives include staff recruitment efforts to appoint historically disadvantaged South Africans (HDSAs), staff development initiatives, as well as community development. The findings furthermore contextualize the challenges experienced by industry participants in their quest to transform. Despite accusations that industry participants are not taking responsibility for the implementation of the transformation agenda, government needs to recognize that they too have a role to play and need to appreciate and assist in the current challenges experienced by the industry.IntroductionWe need a mining sector that works. Mining employs over half a million people. It is the biggest earner of foreign exchange in our country. It also contributes about 20 billion rand directly to tax revenue. Mining also makes a far larger contribution as a buyer of goods and services, and a supplier of inputs to other sectors of our economy and other economies around the globe’ said President Jacob Zuma during the 2014 State of the Nation Address (Zuma, 2014). However, despite apparent commitment from government, enforced compliance with social and labour plans, regulations and Mining Charter targets, the South African mining industry is slow to gain local and international investor trust (Deloitte & Touche, 2013; Mashego, 2013).Industry players acknowledge that their context has changed – creating various challenges (Davis, 2014). In the past few years, such challenges included subdued commodity prices, increased working costs, constrained infrastructure, and high labour costs, coupled with poor levels of productivity, strained labour-management relations, an uncertain regulatory environment, and the inevitable maturation of the industry (Deloitte & Touche, 2013; Davenport, 2014). Mining affected communities also became more cognisant of their rights, and politicians more vocal in their expectations from their relationships with the mining giants (Davis, 2014). One of the main issues that contributed to the difficult operating conditions was claims from organized labour and Minister Shabangu that this industry is too slow to transform. Specific claims were made in terms of employment equity, fair salaries and wages for mineworkers, housing and living conditions, health and safety issues, and general working conditions (Limpitlaw et al., 2005; Miningmx, 2013; Shabangu, 2010). These claims were followed by what Gill Marcus, Reserve Bank Governor, explained as ‘unprotected strike action [that] has escalated into an uncontrolled, violent and unlawful landscape, led by a mob mentality in the absence of formal and recognised leaders’ (Mavuso,2013)."

Studies of the transformation of aus-tenite at constant subcritical temperatures have been numerous since the work of Davenport and Rain.' Considerable information has been obtained on low-alloy steels and on high-carbon alloys containing undissolved carbide or graphite at the austenitizing temperature. Little is known of the isothermal transformation of aus-tenite containing in solution large amounts of both carbon and a single alloying element. In this investigation four steels containing one per cent carbon and with chromium in the range 3 to 9 per cent have been examined with the view to establishing the fundamental character of the isothermal reactions when all carbon and chromium are initially in solution in austenite. Experimental Procedure Alloys The chemical compositions of the steels investigated are given in Table I. The 4 per cent Cr alloy is a commercial steel. The other steels were made by the Carpenter Steel Co. as 50-lb., induction-furnace heats and rolled to 5/8 -in. round bars. Bars were softened at 650' to 700°C. before the specimens were cut. Most of the lines on the transformation diagrams presented here have been placed on the basis of the microscopic examinatioll of partially reacted specimens, Thees specimens were approximately 1/2 by 1/4 by 1/8 in. ill size, specimens of the 9 per cent cr steel were held 10 to 12 hr, at 1200°to 1225°C. before quenching to the various subcritical temperatures. The other steels were held for 2 to 2 1/2 hr. at 12ooOC. before quenching. These treatments, carried out in an atmosphere of purified nitrogen, produced an austenite grain size larger than A.S.T.M. So. I, some grains being 1 to 2 mm. in diameter. There were a few undissolved carbide particles in some specimens of the 9 per cent Cr steel. The effect of tempering temperature and time upon the properties of quenched steel is clearly a subject of great practical importance, as well as of considerable theoretical interest. It would be very desirable to be able to predict the properties of a quenched steel when given any selected tempering cycle, with a minimum of experimental work upon that heat or even type of steel. Two problems are involved: one consists of relating the structure obtained to the physical properties, and will not be discussed here; the other, with which this paper deals, involves the relations of time, temperature and composition with the structure obtained 011 tempering. Indentation hardness is perhaps the most convenient quantitative measure of the tempered structure, or of what might be called the "degree of tempering." Undoubtedly, it is not an exact measure, and in some cases (as when temper-brittleness occurs) pieces of the same quenched and tempered steel may have widely differing properties at the same hardness. However, hardness has the advantage of being simple to determine and is certainly the most widely used indication of the degree of tempering. Moreover, for fully quenched steels that are not temper-brittle and do not contain retained austenite when quenched, it appears that, in general, if the hardness of the steel is the same, the tensile and impact properties will also be identical, whether a high or a low tempering temperature is used. The tempering charts available in the metallurgical literature usually give the hardness as a function of tempering temperature for only one tempering time. However, in practice, tempering times frequently vary, and a method of converting tempering curves for one time to tempering curves for some other time would be very valuable. It is also advantageous, in determining the tempering treatment necessary for a given part, not to have to temper samples at several temperatures for the time used for the commercial tempering operation. A more satisfactory procedure would be to employ times of the order of 10 to 30 min., rather than 5 or 10 hr., and if possible to use only one temperature. Furthermore, it is frequently desirable, for reasons such as temper-brittleness,* to obtain a given hardness with short times at relatively high temperatures, and it would be convenient to be able to compute without tests the time required to produce this hardness. The work of Klier and Lyman1 on the bainite reaction has led to the full description of this reaction for medium-carbon low-alloy steels. Certain experimental data reported by Klier and Lyman appear, however, to be improbable of obtaining in very high-carbon steels. The study herein reported consists of an analysis of the transformation characteristics of a 3 per cent chromium, I per cent carbon steel by means of X-ray and metallographic methods. From the results obtained it is concluded that the bainite reaction in this steel is more complicated than that reported by Klier and Lyman for the low-carbon low-alloy steels. Henever, the mechanism of bainite formation in this steel appears to be essentially the same as proposed for the low-carbon low-alloy steels with the modification that the first volumes to transform are carbon-rich rather than carbon-poor. Experimental Procedure The analysis of the steel studied was: Cr, 2.89; C, 1.02; Mn, 0.33; Si, o.35; S, 0.012; P, 0.020. The stock was received from the Carpenter Steel Co. in rolled bars. Specimen Preparation Specimens were austenitized at 1200°C. (2192°F.) for 25 min. in purified nitrogen. The resultant A.S.T.M. austenite grain size was 0-1. Isothermal transformation was allowed by quenching the specimens into liquid metal baths controlled to 5°C. at 540°C. (1004°F.) and above, and to 2°C. at 490°C. (914°f.) and below. Following the desired degree of transformation all specimens were water quenched. Metallographic Examination Specimens 1/4 in. round by 1/4 in. were used for nietallographic examination. Etch-ants used were Vilella's reagent (I gram picric acid, 10 ml. hydrochloric acid to make 100 ml. ethyl alcohol solution) and alkalinc sodium picratc (electrolytic). Vilella's reagent was effective in revealing all microconstitucnts, while the alkaline sodium picrate developed the carbon-rich structures or carbides only. X-ray Examination Two X-ray techniques were used—the Debye-Scherrer method and a back-reflection method. 'The small specimens necessary for the Debye-Scherrer method were austenitized and then allowed to transform, or were cut from the larger metallographic specimens. The metallographic specimens were used for the back-reflection X-ray analysis. When it was desirable to determine the structure of the carbide present, sliver specimens were electrolytically etched to develop a carbide coating, then were exposed in the cameras. This technique was frequently necessary to allow positive identification of the carbide.

WHEN annealed carbon, or low-alloy, steels are suitably heated the ferrite (alpha iron solid solution) and the carbide, of which they are composed, react together to form a single solid solution of carbon (and other elements) in gamma iron (austenite). This reaction may begin only at a certain minimum temperature called the eutectoid temperature. The first ferrite and carbide thus to react together do so in definite proportions known as the eutectoid composition. With further heating the original constituent that is present in excess is dissolved in the austenite until exhausted. Whether the excess constituent be ferrite (hypoeutectoid steels) or carbide (hypereutectoid steels) the procedure is much the same, and upon slow cooling the homogeneous austenite expels the excess of either (proeutectoid ferrite or carbide) until the eutectoid composition is reached. Thus the reaction upon heating is strictly reversed upon cooling and accordingly an equilibrium diagram of this process may be constructed. Such an equilibrium diagram concerns itself only with the tempera¬tures involved and with the proportions and compositions of the phases developed under conditions that suffice to permit equilibrium. Specifically it has no concern for the type or mode of distribution of these constituents nor with any extra-equilibrium conditions such as undercooling, which is almost universally encountered in metals. Actually, however, of great importance is the sluggishness toward equilibration caused by the not inconsiderable time involved in diffusion. Thus instead of the theoretical transformation point AE, we find for a certain rate of heating or cooling the use of the designations Ar and Ac (transformation temperature found on cooling and upon heating). These figures obviously have no particular meaning except as measured and expressed for a definite heating or cooling rate, and represent the apparent temperature displacement caused by an inadequate time allowance. The automated optical image analysis software Mineral4/Recognition4 (M4/R4) is capable of performing comprehensive characterisation of different materials throughout the iron ore value chain, including ore fines, lump, sinter, pellets and coke. It has been successfully used by CSIRO for industrial and research projects and has been independently licensed to several world leaders in iron ore production and ironmaking. The M4/R4 software was strongly integrated with a Zeiss microscope to make use of the company’s powerful AxioVision software. This required users to own both Zeiss microscope hardware and AxioVision software in order to be able to use M4/R4 to its full image acquisition and analysis capacity. Therefore, it was not available to the users of equipment produced by other major microscope manufacturers. In recent times however, Zeiss has indicated that the AxioVision software will no longer be supported. To overcome this limitation, CSIRO has proceeded with the next generation of this software, Mineral5/Recognition5 (M5/R5). Importantly, the M5/R5 system has been developed without any dependence on a specific microscope hardware/software platform. Furthermore, the image analysis functionality is now based on openCV open access software and has been fully rewritten using stateof- the-art software development tools to allow reading and processing of all major image formats. Although past applications have been specific to iron ore and ironmaking applications, other improvements, such as an increased number of minerals allowing better gangue segmentation, flexible mineral definitions, improved software modules behaviour and refined analysis routines enables the platform independent M5/R5 image analysis system to be used by researchers in any area of mineralogical or materials research.

The mineralogy of residues formed during the pressure acid leaching of arid region nickel laterite ore varies according to the salinity of the process water, alkali cation additives and the overall acid loading. In fresh water, hematite is the main iron-bearing leach residue component, together with amorphous silica and hydronium or sodium alunite/jarosite [(H3O,Na)(Fe,Al)3(SO4)2(OH)6]. As the process water salinity increases, or as NH4+ or K salts are added, alunite/jarosite is the kinetically favoured iron-bearing phase accompanied by an increase in acid consumption. The alunite/jarosite appears as two XRD distinct phases with different Fe:Al molar ratios. In weakly saline water, iron-rich alunite/jarosite slowly transforms to hematite and an aluminium-rich alunite/jarosite together with the release of acid. The addition of potassium salts forms a more stable alunite/jarosite whilst the addition of ammonium salts leads to greater transformation of alunite/jarosite at 250°C. Weakly saline process water gives enhanced nickel recoveries, whilst strongly saline process water gives lower nickel recoveries but higher soluble iron because of chloro-complexation. SEM and microprobe analysis shows very little nickel is associated with the alunite/jarosite and hematite phases. Nickel losses to the residues are attributed to adsorption on amorphous silica and to a lesser extent on alunite/jarosite.

During the process of hematite precipitation, the transformation of Na jarosite convert into hematite has been studied in a batch reactor at different temperatures, ranging from 170°C to 200°C with 3h of the retention time in the presence of 30g/L Fe ( ) and 4g/L Na+. The composition of precipitation was seriously depended on the temperature, at 170°C hematite and sodium jarosite are the reaction products of iron precipitate, with an increasing in reaction temperature the sodium, sulfur content in precipitated decreased and sulfur mainly exist in forms of SO4 2-, and when temperature over 200°C hematite was the only phase in product. An increasing temperature was not only beneficial to iron precipitation, also conducive to jarosite conversion to form high quality hematite precipitate.

TWINNED metal crystals are usually designated as either deformation twins or annealing twins. If twins are to be classified according to the treatment the metal has undergone just prior to the obser vation of the twins, there are two other possible groups: (1) solidification twins,? when observed in the as-solidified or as-cast condition, and (2) transformation twins, ? when observed in a metal which has been cooled from above an allotropic transformation temperature. McKeehan has demonstrated that ferrite does, occasionally at least, contain twinned structures2. The twins, which he studied by optical methods, were obtained during the preparation of iron single crystals by very slow cooling through A3. He proved that the twin relation was actually that which previous investigators had predicted; namely, twinning along three planes of the form {112}. Since McKeehan's discovery, little or no attention has-been given to this transformation twinning of alpha iron, or to the possibility that it might occur at all speeds of cooling from above A3 instead of merely during the prepara-tion of single crystals. McKeehan's twins were evidently regarded as interesting only in proving that a body-centered cubic metal could form twinned structures-at least under certain conditions. It is generally believed that iron seldom if ever forms annealing twins. Certainly the straight-line banding which is so abundant in annealed face-centered cubic metals is characteristically absent in iron annealed below A3. The paper discusses the experiences of a fast-track curriculum designed to provide the industry with engineers capable of working in minerals processing industry. The course has been done once before and the second course has been started. Students chosen have graduated from other fields of engineering. For the first course, twelve students were chosen from 152 applicants and for the second the twelve students were chosen from 96 applicants. The basic idea of the curriculum is to alternate between theoretical studies at the university and working experience periods at industrial sites. In addition, there are several one week assignment tasks at industrial sites. The theoretical periods are six to eight weeks long and there are three of them. During the first period, the teaching concentrates on unit processes and their chemical and physical background. The theme of the second period is mineral engineering systems; flowsheet development, process dynamics, control systems etc. The last theoretical period teaches environmental issues, leadership, project work and other similar topics. Each of the theoretical periods ends with an assignment week at industrial sites. The assignments are designed to wrap up the teachings of the period. For the industrial periods, the students are given learning goals, which have been discussed and designed with their industrial mentors. They are required to find relevant literature, make experimental designs, implement those designs, present the data, and make conclusions of their results. During these periods, a weekly meeting over the Internet is compulsory. Com o contínuo advento dos materiais aumenta-se as chances de uma dada transformação envolver duas ou mais fases produto. Quando essa transformação de uma fase matriz em duas ou mais fases produto ocorre, ela pode ser simultânea, quando as fases produto iniciam-se no mesmo instante, ou sequencial, quando elas iniciam-se em tempos diferentes. É sabido, pela teoria clássica da nucleação, que a nucleação heterogênea tem vantagens sobre a nucleação homogênea, e que vários sítios podem se tornar preferenciais por favorecerem a nucleação heterogênea. Dois sítios preferenciais bastante presentes são a interface de precipitados e os contornos de grão. Neste contexto, um modelamento analítico e computacional, via cone causal, foi empregado para investigar transformações simultâneas e sequenciais que possuem sítios preferenciais para a nucleação. Considerou-se que uma fase matriz policristalina que possui precipitados esféricos transforma-se em duas fases produto, 1 e 2, onde a fase produto 1 nucleou na interface matriz/partículas e a fase produto 2 nos contornos de grão. Os resultados de simulação tiveram ótima concordância com o modelamento analítico e observou-se que cada sítio preferencial teve um efeito muito distinto nas microestruturas simuladas.

"Although concentrated efforts have been made to deplete PCB transformers from the Canadian environment, numerous transformers (as well as ballasts, capacitors and magnets) continue to exist throughout the Canadian mining industry. The existing installed base is slowly being phased out as environmental issues come under increasingly high profile. The following article identifies the potential problems of owning PCB transformers and offers some solutions for their removal, disposal and replacement. IntroductionPolychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) are synthetic chemical compounds consisting of chlorine, carbon and hydrogen. PCB was widely used in transformers due to its physical properties, including stability, low flammability and non-conductivity. Use of PCB in electrical equipment has been banned since 1977 when the extent of environmental contamination was discovered.Although PCB’s have been outlawed for use in electrical equipment since the late 1970s, safe storage regulations were not addressed until 1988 when a major spill prompted the federal government eventually to issue the storage of PCB Material Regulations in 1992. These regulations replaced the Interim order of 1988 under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.PCB transformers are usually referred to as askarel filled transformers or as PCB contaminated mineral oil transformers. Askeral transformers were designed to contain high concentration PCB fluids, referred to as askarel. Mineral oil transformers were not designed to have PCB concentrations but were inadvertently contaminated during manufacture or maintenance activities."

Mining and tunnelling share many commonalities (eg confined working environments, excavation equipment and processes), but of significance is an overarching commitment to provide safe work conditions and environments. This includes reducing exposure to hazardous airborne contaminants such as dust and fumes, in particular Respirable Crystalline Silica (RCS) and Diesel Particulate Matter (DPM), with methods that are environmentally sustainable. In mining, wet methods are common to suppress airborne contaminants, however these methods are reliant on water availability, can be less effective for respirable dust, can have implications for environmental water contamination and can increase maintenance on mining equipment. In contrast, the use of dust scrubbers that provide filtration of airborne contaminants are well established in the tunnelling industry and frequently used to provide spot extraction (dust control at the source) and act often as a complement to the main ventilation system. This paper sought to learn more about the advancements in tunnelling that could be readily applied to mining to improve health outcomes. The paper includes a review of literature and legislation related to health and sustainability and interviews with three respected, and experienced managers from the global tunnel construction industry. It is from these interviews that the focus of the paper turns to Sydney’s WestConnex underground tunnel network and the success of stage 3A M4-M5 construction link. The findings position dust scrubbers as integral to the overall project success as they enabled a Tunnel Production Line (TPL), where multiple stages of construction could take place simultaneously by controlling high volumes of dust at the source. The findings also suggest efficiencies of using mobile scrubbers, both track mounted and hydraulic stepping systems, to accompany road headers and other equipment throughout the excavation process. The findings have transferable applications to underground mining processes in which workers are exposed to high volumes of dust (eg drill and blast) or situations in which dust control at the source, mobility and flexibility offer value (eg room and pillar mining).

An advanced Flash Furnace feed system is the key to improving furnace performance. Clyde-WorleyParsons has developed a revolutionary pulseless pneumatic injection feed system technology, capable of delivering a range of benefits to operators of Flash Furnaces. The solution was created by combining the pneumatic conveying and injection knowledge, expertise and technology of Clyde Materials Handling with WorleyParsons' flash furnace process and operating experience. Optimal furnace burner performance requires the feed material to be presented to the burner as a stable, pulseless and accurately controlled flow, distributed evenly around the burner tip circumference. These simple requirements appear obvious, but are extremely difficult to satisfy in industrial environments and are not achieved by conventional feed systems. Our analysis of existing operating furnaces has identified the link between pulses in concentrate feed rate caused by conventional drag chain conveyors and rapid fluctuations measured in the furnace pressure. These fluctuations occur at a timescale close to the reaction shaft residence time and lead to unwanted instability in the primary furnace reaction zone - the flame. Through the use of the solution created by Clyde-WorleyParsons, it is predicted that the much more accurate control of feed rates achieved can lead to substantial improvements in furnace output, increased oxygen efficiency and better control of the composition of furnace liquids, such as matte, blister or slag. All these improvements lead to significant increases in smelter output and efficiency, and deliver high economic value compared to the cost of the feed system. Clyde-WorleyParsons' solutions can be deployed on greenfield sites or retrofitted, and therefore, have the capability to improve feed control at both new and existing smelters. This paper will discuss the field test work undertaken to date, the impact of findings and the ongoing analysis of linkages between instabilities in the various components of conventional feed systems and furnace pressure stability.

Many of us who have interacted with senior executives from leading oil and gas companies over the last few years on the subject of HSE performance have observed a marked shift in their engagement on this aspect of their business performance. There seems to be a shared impression that HSE performance will have markedly increased impact on their businesses going forward. On the back of this very real concern, many are taking material actions to secure a step change in their safety and environmental performance: hiring respected mainstream operational personnel to lead their HSE function; investing in capacity/skills development for HSE professionals to increase their effectiveness in addressing the needs of the business; taking a hard look at the efficacy of established management and audit programs (too much paper, not enough results?); investing in information management systems so they can have access to real time reliable performance indicators; and, critically, initiatives to reduce accident statistics (especially focused on fatalities and contractors? activities) and deliver meaningful reductions in their environmental footprints. Underpinning all of these actions is a clear sense that substantial, very well-intentioned activity and investment in HSE aspects of the business has not been hitting the mark and yielding too little return in terms of performance improvement. The very serious recent events on the US Gulf Coast and at a refinery in the US Pacific Northwest have added fuel to this fire. The need for approaches which will secure a step-change in performance on the front line in the global oil and gas industry has never been greater.

Pyrrhotite-rich tailings from Sudbury, Ontario mining activities are known to contain significant amounts of EV metals, such as nickel and cobalt.  CanmetMINING has developed a novel bioleaching process for recovering the nickel and cobalt (both critical for vehicle electrification) from tailings that incorporates partial neutralization and iron removal in the bioleaching circuit; bench- and pilot-scale tests have resulted in excellent nickel and cobalt recovery over a range of temperatures.  However, this process generates a new bioleach residue, which is heavier and more voluminous than the original tailings due to pyrrhotite oxidation and jarosite formation during the bioleaching process. This residue can be problematic for long-term disposal. A possible solution being studied for this issue is using mine backfill as a disposal mechanism.  Underground backfilling allows for effective re-purposing of mine waste, however the backfill must also be able to withstand a certain load, since in most cases it is used as an underground construction material, such as in cut-and-fill mining methods.  Therefore, the composition of the mill tailings must be such that when combined with a binding agent and pumped underground, the slurry or paste is then able to withstand a certain load within a certain period of time.  Unfortunately, high-pyrrhotite content tailings, commonly found on mine sites in Ontario and Quebec, are reactive and can easily oxidize and produce acidity and/or metal-laden drainage under some disposal conditions. This means that the pyrrhotite in the tailings can lead to acid mine drainage if stored on surface, however, it can also cause strength degradation if re-purposed in too high a concentration in underground mine backfill.  The research being done at CanmetMINING related to the bioleaching process is aimed not only at recovering nickel and cobalt from mine tailings, it is also being used in an attempt to neutralize the tailings to reduce acid mine drainage and backfill strength degradation. This paper reports on research designed to evaluate different options for transforming the bioleaching process residue into iron oxide phases, for better environmental footprints if stored on surface, as well as increased disposal possible, if re-purposed as underground mine backfill material.

The mining industry has been slow at adopting the latest management philosophies from other industry sectors, such as manufacturing, and in retrospect, with good cause. With the plethora of three-letter-acronyms such as TQM, JIT, TPM and now, BPR each touted as the panacea for profit improvement, you wonder if you must choose one or attempt to embrace them all! In truth, each new insight into organisational behaviour bears some investigation. This paper looks at the underlying principles and elements of successful change strategies, and how several mining companies, including coal mines, in Australia, Chile and Canada, are applying these principles to their operations. These examples illustrate the need to think radically, and to view mining as an overall process delivering value to the customer rather than a collection of functional silos. They also show that often, a continuous improvement initiative is not enough when a fundamental redesign, a paradigm shift, is needed for a performance breakthrough.

Artisanal and small-scale underground gold mining in Colombia plays a significant role in the country’s economy, but it faces persistent occupational hazards that threaten worker safety. Despite mining economic contributions, outdated technologies, limited risk management practices, and insufficient regulatory enforcement have led to recurring workplace accidents, many of which have been fatal. This study presents a systematic review of mining-related accidents over the last decade. Through geo-referenced analysis, high-risk municipalities were identified, and the frequency of accidents was correlated with the mining legal status and operational practices of these municipalities. The findings underscore the urgent need for evidencebased interventions that are tailored to the country’s unique mining context. Ultimately, this research contributes to the global discourse on mining safety by highlighting practical pathways to reduce occupational risks and promote safer, healthier workplaces in resource-constrained environments.

The Anglo Platinum Mogalakwena North concentrator was one of the first three hard rock mineral processing applications to utilise a HPGR circuit in preference to a SAG milling circuit. This was driven by the extreme competence of the ore that had given rise to throughput issues on the original South Plant. Despite more than adequate capacity and performance of the individual comminution units, the circuit has struggled to obtain full design capacity. A thorough review of the integrated performance of the circuit revealed a wide range of bottlenecks and underutilised parts of the circuit arising from design issues. Interestingly, the major opportunities lie in materials handling issues and mismatch of loads about the circuit. This paper presents the high-level outcomes and the associated opportunities, and is pertinent to all HPGR circuit designs.
