In 1984 a high temperature heat recuperation system was installed in the pellet plant of the National Steel Pellet Company located in Keewatin, Minnesota. The system is similar to those of Cleveland Cliffs Empire and U.S. Steel's Minntac operations. It recovers hot process air from the cooler by induced flow, and directs it to an intermediate zone between the drying and preheat zones on the grate machine. This system recently underwent further modifications in April 1985, following initial operation in 1984. The M. A. Hanna Company, which manages the property, developed the design criteria and made the subsequent recommendations for modification through its research facility in Nashwauk, Minnesota.

Selective open pit mining for gold has been in progress at Harbour Lights since the onset of mining in March 1985. Selective mining techniques used are similar to those in other recently opened gold mines in Western Australia. However certain practices have been introduced to accommodate the irregular distribution of mineralisation and comparatively high mill tonnage throughput. These include selective mining with large bucket excavators, sequential waste stripping - ore mining normal to the strike of the orebody and sample line preparation and ripping on bench floors. Application of these selective mining practices at Harbour Lights enables the operation to maintain delivery of approximately forty by 50-tonne truck loads of ore to the mill crusher everyday, with limited rehandling of material through ore stockpiles.

The Eossing Uranium Mine is a high tonnage low grade open pit operation using acid leaching for uranium extraction and ion exchange and solvent extraction for solution purification. Advanced technology, much of it computer based, has led to major economies that have contained operating unit costs over the last four years in the face of double figure inflation. An improved ore reserve block model and mine planning system have achieved a considerable reduction in the stripping ratio. Drilling and blasting costs have decreased some 25%, mainly by the introduction of heavy ANFO explosive. A centralised computer control centre for the metallurgical plant has increased labour productivity resulting in improved process control. The all-staff workforce is united with management in the objectives of creating a safe, healthy, working and living environment and a prosperous company, capable of contributing to the wellbeing of the nation and the shareholders. This situation has been brought into being by an equal opportunity policy coupled with a management system emphasising open two-way communication through all levels in the organisation. The success of this policy is highly apparent in the morale and productivity of the workforce.

Nuclear techniques have been used to determine the solids weight fraction (W) and ash content of (fine) coal in slurries independent of voidage variations. The method is based on the correlation between W and the hydrogen concentration Hsl (wt/wt) of the slurry. Hsl is determined by combining measurements of neutron moderation and ?-ray transmission. Both Wand ash content are determined by combining the above measurements with the ash-sensitive measurement of X-ray backscatter compensated by a measurement of iron K X-ray intensity.The nuclear analysis system, called the SIRO coal slurry gauge, has been proved in a six-week plant trial at the BHP Steelworks washery at Newcastle, NSW. Several probes, each containing a radioisotope source and scintillation detector, were immersed directly into the coal slurry in the feed box upstream from the bank of flotation cells. For 140 samples W, ash and voidage varied in the ranges of 0 to 13 wt percent, 26 to 41 wt per cent and 0 to 4 vol. per cent, respectively. The r.m.s. difference in solids weight fraction, determined by probe measurements and conventional assay, was 0·52 wt per cent. Ash was determined with an r.m.s. difference of 2·0 wt percent in the coal. Better sampling techniques were used in the last half of the plant trial, and r.m.s. differences were 0.35 wt per cent solids and 1·5 wt per cent ash.

"There is a general consensus that, in order to widen the utilization of Western Canadian coals, a major effort must be devoted to their transportation, utilization of fines, beneficiation and mining techniques. It is postulated that the concept studied extensively over the last four years at Alberta Research Council (ARC), and based on a combination of hydraulic mining, selective agglomeration with bitumen and/ or heavy oil, pipeline transportation and oil recovery from agglomerates, offers a particularly attractive solution to the problems associated with extraction, beneficiation, transportation and utilization of Western bituminous and subbituminous coals. Results of preliminary experimental work on the feasibility of pipeline agglomeration of metallurgical coal and hydraulic transportation of agglomerates are presented and discussed in the context of conventional agglomeration techniques in stirred tanks. IntroductionAlberta is endowed with enormous reserves of low-sulphur coals which could attract considerable attention of potential customers, but the remote location of this province handicaps its competitiveness on the world market. It is known that Alberta's Cretaceous, particularly metallurgical, coals differ significantly from their Carboniferous counterparts; current R&D work on indigenous coals should continue to expand in order to encourage overseas client s to use these coals more extensively.There is a genera l consensus that, in order to widen the utilization of Western coals, a major effort must be devoted to their transportation, utilization of fines, beneficiation and mining techniques."

Where difficult shaft sinking conditions exist, it may be appropriate to use a blind drilling technique. The success of the method is in part due to the presence of a drilling mud which fills the shaft void during excavation. The mud performs two important functions with respect to shaft stability: it reduces the influence of groundwater; and, due to the mud weight, gives a positive sup- port to the shaft walls. The application of the method is illustrated by a case history which traces the development of a shaft from the initial investigation to determine the shaft location, through the evaluation of wall stability and mud requirements, to the shaft sinking contract and actual conditions encountered.

The techniques developed should provide a useful tool, not only during the initial formulation of a suitable bolting plan for a new section, but also for periodic check¬ing on the utilization factor of hardware installed in the roof. Indications are that with present practice, utilization seldom exceeds 507.. Retro-fittable bolter equipment now available (FCBS?) allows doubling of the utilization factor in many cases. We are also introducing a computer pro¬gram based on the material outlined in this paper. This program can save a great deal of time in examining the real effect of implementing alternate bolting plans or using different installation techniques. It allows fine-tuning of bolt lengths, spacing and installation tension to mini¬mize roof support cost, while maximizing safe life of the mine opening. We have developed a procedure which allows easy, site-specific quantification of the need for reinforcement of a mine roof. The concept is based on the forma¬tion of a direct link between theory and empirical data to custom-fit each mine section. In its simplest form, the proce¬dure requires only recording of roof bolt torques in a sample working place (16 to 25 bolts) several times during the first week or so after initial bolting. The way in which the torque pattern changes during this time can reveal whether or not the bolts carry enough tension to maintain stability in that specific roof. From the same data, the nature of the anchorage horizon is derived. Specifically, shale or limestone can be distinguished from sandstone. If the procedure is repeated a few times (within the same mine section) with different bolt installation tensions, we can numerically characterize the roof in terms of one single value: an "effective angle of internal friction". This number can then serve to calculate trade-offs in bolting plan design, such as bolt length, bolt spacing and optimum bolt tension. Additional refinement is possible if a sagmeter is installed in the sample work¬ing place being monitored and if bolt anchorage capacity is determined. The lat¬ter can be done automatically on each bolt as it is being installed, using a system we developed and patented. Alternately, a number of pull tests could be performed. Using the sagmeter, bolt torque and anchor¬age data, it is possible to project the safe life of the supported opening. The details of the procedures described apply specifically to tensioned roof bolting, but a brief discussion paints the way for a similar analysis of full-column resin bolting also.

The Bureau of Mines has conducted a rock mechanics study to monitor deformation of near-seam strata above a longwall panel in the Pittsburgh Coalbed. The primary goal was to determine the height of caving immediately behind advancing longwall face supports. This study, although site specific, provides information on the caving mechanism associated with longwall extractions so that strata behavior and its interaction with longwall face supports can be better understood. Two holes were drilled, approximately 550 ft apart along the center line of a longwall panel, from the surface to the coalbed approximately 650 ft below. Various downhole geotechnical instruments were used to monitor strata deformation. In addition, surface elevation surveys were conducted to differentiate between surface and subsurface activity. This report discusses the caving characteristics of the strata as the longwall panel approached and passed beneath the boreholes. Physical property data are also presented to demonstrate the relationship between caving behavior and local geology. Data show that immediate caving of strata above the longwall face occurred at a height less than 23.5 ft and that strata behavior above longwall extractions is highly dependent upon lithology, with major disturbances occurring at weak lithologic zones.

"IntroductionIn 1980, Fording Coal Limited started conceptual planning studies which led to major changes in the long-range mining plan at their Fording River Operations. These new plans have been completed and are now in operation.To assist personnel in a timely completion of this major revision to the long-range plan, existing in-house drill hole data base and scheduling systems were used and a computerized Mine Modelling and Planning System was purchased. With these tools, plan s were developed which led to completion of initial access to the peak of Eagle Mountain and the start of mining operations in March 1983. As mining area s open up and new geo logical data is obtained, detailed plan s are being extended and revised.With the geology and mine plan s on line, this work can now be done with less effort and plans ca n be adapted to provide flexibility in mining operations. Changes in market conditions can be accommodated by moving mining operations into different seams for different coal types. The computer systems are used to revise pit designs and schedules accordingly."

"At the Falconbridge Limited, Canadian Nickel Division, Sudbury Operations, we investigated the ""NO NOISE"" ear muffs model NN3-F which is a Swedish product with foam-filled sealing rings (the Hellberg Standard Volume Hearing Protector). It is used extensively at Falconbridge mines in Sudbury.The research which was carried out in the four Falconbridge mines was conducted under three different headings: manufacturer's attenuation data (psychophysical method), clamping force and head size (bizygomatic diameter), and attenuation tests (physical methods) under working conditions.Manufacturers of hearing protectors claim their products offer noise reductions of 23 decibels (NRR) or more, but they fail to point out that this reduction is obtainable only under ideal conditions. The reality of attenuation under working conditions, as several studies have found, is quite different.Methods for using short measurements to determine the noise exposure index, and for controlling muff-wearing habits, were developed at the Elliot Lake Laboratory. Measurements taken at Falconbridge on ""NO NOISE"" ear muffs revealed that they have a practical attenuation of some IO to 13 decibels. It is important to note here that measurements also revealed that clamping force (thus attenuation) was in an inverse relationship with ear muff comfort. Measuring attenuation using noise dosimeters was a difficult job. Not a single surveyor would accept these measurements (physical method) for absolute accuracy. Apart from that, it was impossible to measure, in one shift, more than two work stations. Because of this, we sought a solution: measuring head size and clamping force in relation to actual attenuations.A detailed analysis of the relationship between attenuation and head size/clamping force was done at four mines. Standard deviation ellipses (standard error ellipses) for head size versus clamping force are in close agreement with measurements that were carried out. In order to measure clamping force an apparatus was constructed and a method for measuring suspension system durability is described in Appendices Band C of this report. At the same time we sought to reduce deterioration of ear muffs in mines as well as to put in place a system whereby attenuation can be controlled and improved. The clamping force apparatus can be operated automatically. The proposed control system is quick, simple and efficient . This system is equally applicable in small and large mining operations, and it can be totally automated and the data computerized for audit of the results. This control system is a new step in controlling ear muff attenuation in working environments.From these measurements of NN3-F ""NO NOISE"" muffs it can be concluded that ear muffs are not the total solution to protect the worker from noise.As the results were evaluated folio wing measurement, Falconbridge switched from the NN3-F ""NO NOISE"" muffs to approximately 90% Mark V ""NO NOISE"" muffs and 10% Mark V MSA muffs. These new muffs showed much better head size versus clamping force relationship and can be expected to produce 14 dBA or better attenuation of noise. The Australian Mineral Industries Research Association, set up by the mineral industry in 1959, acts as a research and development broker and manager for the industry. In 1984/85 it contracted out just over $3 million of projects. Its structure and method of operation is described and highlights of some of the successful projects are given. The complex process of developing new proposals is described. This involves the establishment of effective communication networks within the industry and between the industry and research personnel working outside it. The advantages of the industry tackling some of its problems on a jointly sponsored basis are listed. Possible avenues for future development by the Association are given.

INTRODUCTION Production of chrysotile asbestos from the northern Appalachians has been going on for 100 years and, on the basis of known reserves and the present rates of mining, appears assured of continued production for at least another 25 to 30 years. In spite of this, mining companies and government agencies are showing an increasing interest in exploring for chrysotile asbestos throughout this region and elsewhere in the world, implying that increases in the rate of consumption are envisioned. This chapter describes the geologic and tectonic settings surrounding these important chrysotile deposits, with emphasis on those in southern Quebec that yield about 90% of the total production from the northern Appala- chians. Detailed descriptions of a few individual deposits are also given, along with exploration guidelines aimed at facilitating the discovery of additional chrysotile deposits. One section of this chapter deals with the origin and mode of formation of the chrysotile deposits in the light of modern day concepts of plate tectonics. The objectives of this chapter are to give a brief description of the geologic and tectonic settings of the ultramafic rocks in which the numerous chrysotile deposits of the northern Appalachians are found; to describe a few of the individual deposits; to give a few exploration guidelines for those interested in exploring for new asbestos deposits in similar geologic environments; and to propose a new model for asbestos genesis in light of the recently developed theories of global tectonics. As this chapter is based almost entirely on field and laboratory observations, rather than on the study of experimental laboratory models, most of our deductions and suggestions are empirical in nature and may be interpreted in more than one way. The interpretations we have selected seem to offer, we feel, the best explanation of observed geological phenomena (Lamarche and Wicks, 1975). This region had a production capability in 1979 of close to p.5 Mt of chrysotile asbestos with 92% of this tonnage being derived from the deposits of the Eastern Townships of Quebec. With known resources, which now stand at between 36 and 40 Mt of fibers, this production capability seems assured for the next few decades. In spite of all known reserves of chrysotile asbestos, which now stand at between 36 and 40 Mt of fiber in this region alone, mining companies and government agencies are still showing a good deal of interest in exploring for new sources throughout the world. GEOLOGICAL SETTING The asbestos deposits at Baie Verte in eastern Newfoundland, Thetford Mines, Black Lake, Asbestos in southern Quebec, and Belvidere Mountain in Vermont, all occur in partly serpentinized ultramafic rocks that are part of the Lower Paleozoic ophiolite complexes of the northern Appalachians [Cady, Albee, Chidester, 1963, Chidester, Albee, Cady, 1978, Lamarche, 1972,1973, Laurent, 1973,1975, Williams, Hibbard, Bursnall, 1977, Norman and Strong, 1975). The deposits to the northeast of Thetford Mines, on the other hand, are found in a more highly serpentinized ultramafic body known as the Pennington dike, whose spatial, genetic, and chronological links with the ophiolite masses proper have not as yet been adequately resolved. The Appalachian ophiolites are part of an ultramafic belt (or belts), that extends from northwestern Newfoundland, through Quebec and Vermont. Fig. 1, and southwestward as far as the

It is commonly accepted that the tension of roof bolts can be used as a measure of the effectiveness of roof support performance in coal bearing strata. The conceptual base for the assumption originates from beam theory. Roof bolt tension acting across the bedding and other weakness planes increases friction, preventing potential separation and slippage within the roof strata and therefore, increases the stiffness of the roof beam between the open face and the rock-mass enclosed within the anchorage. Thus, it is important to monitor roof bolt tension, especially for research purposes, and consequently many measuring systems were developed based on numerous working principles. Research planned by the Department of Mining Engineering at the University of Kentucky required a large number of tension measuring devices of high precision. These were intended to operate reliably in corrosive mine environment over long periods of time. After evaluating the existing systems, it was decided to develop a new type of roof bolt dynamometer which would fulfill the above requirements at minimal Cost. Nearly one hundred such dynamometers were constructed, calibrated and installed in two underground mines. They remained in service for a period of one Year, producing a valuable database for the Project. In this paper the working principle of this new type of dynamometer will be described and technical considerations and samples of the collected data will be given.

To decrease the potential for fine coal waste slurry impoundment failures, the Bureau of Mines investigated a new disposal technique. The fine coal waste slurry is rapidly thickened (i.e., dewatered) and deposited on a slightly sloping surface. To accomplish rapid dewatering, a chemical flocculation system using polymers was developed to treat the fine coal waste slurry stream. The fine solids formed flocs, settled from suspension, and rapidly released excess water. During the last 5 days of the field test, slurry flowing at rates from 498 to 675 gal/min with a specific gravity range of 1.15 to 1.33 was successfully treated and dewatered. During this period, untreated slurry had an average moisture content of 227.4 pct (30.7 wt pct solids). The effectiveness of the dewatering system was determined by monitoring the moisture content of the deposited waste with respect to time. Sixty-five hours after ending the field test the average moisture content was 54.9 pct (64.5 wt pct solids); 68 days after the field test the average moisture content was 28.8 pct (78.0 wt pct solids).

This paper describes studies into two particular aspects of the Lochiel deposit which formed part of feasibility level geot2chnical and hydrogeological investigations for proposed open cut mine development. The two aspects were depressurisation of thick beds of silt located through the profile and the determination of characteristics and origins of soil structure and their effect on pit stability. The studies were very detailed and multi disciplinary and highlight the integration of geology, geotechnics, hydrogeology and mining that is required for mine development studies. It is considered that as more marginal deposits are developed throughout the world the demands for efficient economic mining together with in- creasing scales of operation will require simi- lar types of studies. As such the studies pre- sented herein are likely to be a forerunner to a,emerging trend for development of open pit mines in difficult ground and water conditions.

GENERAL INTRODUCTION Electrostatic separation has found a number of applications since its initial installation as a processing method. Three broad types of electrostatic installations are discussed in order to provide a practical guide for three widely divergent uses of electrostatic separation. Only operating and installation data are covered in detail. A detailed technical treatment on the various types of electrostatic separation described in this paper can be found in the literature by F. S. Knoll, J. B. Taylor and J. E. Lawer.8, 9 ELECTROSTATIC SEPARATION OF IRON ORE: WABDSH MINES, CANADA Introduction Electrostatic roll-type separator technology which had been in use in various forms since the 1920's evolved in the late 1940's when this separation process was developed and applied to the extraction of titanium bearing minerals from beach sands by J. H. Carpenter. Equipment design and industrial flowsheets developed for the recovery of rutile and ilmenite found new application in iron ore by chance in the year, 1956. From the time of the first beach sands plant, Carpco had developed other technology, gravity and magnetic separation to better serve the beach sands industry. It was in the fall of 1956 that an iron ore producer from the upper Michigan Peninsula sent a sample of jaspilite (fine-grained specular hematite in a jasper matrix) to Carpco's laboratory for the purpose of determining if a new high-intensity magnetic separator would be beneficial. Process Development W. P. Dyrenforth, while presenting a paper on the subject in the fall of 1957, recounts the laboratory tests. "High-intensity magnetic separators have been employed (for the beneficiation of iron ore) with some success and are still being investigated. Magnetic separation is a natural field of investigation, since iron and magnetism have been almost synonymous since ancient times. "This paper summarizes work carried out at the Dome Mine to mechanize the mining of narrow veins of less than 1.5 m in width by the introduction of new mining methods and specifically designed electric LHDs.Extensive mining trials have been conducted using sublevel blasthole, modified Avoca, and resuing mining methods. The introduction of the Microscoop and the Jarvis Clark remote, radio-controlled scooptram has increased mucking productivity.As a result of this work, additional narrow vein stopes are now being prepared for production. In the future, narrow vein stoping wil lprovide a greater percentage of the total mill tonnage.IntroductionThe Dome Mine, which is owned and operated by Dome Mines Limited, is located at Timmins, Ontario. Production has been continuous since 1910 and in 1984 was increased from 1814 to 2721 tonnes per day.At least six distinct ore types have been recognized at the mine. In general, these orebodies can be broadly categorized into wide and narrow deposits. The wide deposits are approximately lenticular in shape and vary in width from 10 m to 40 m. The narrow orebodies consist of quartz and quartzankerite veins ranging in width from a few centimetres to six metres. The average dip of the veins is 65 degrees.Since the I970s, mining activity has been largely concentrated in the wider orebodies using highly productive open sublevel blasthole and mechanized cut-and-fill stoping methods. With the demise of shrinkage stoping in 1975, investigations were initiated to develop new mining methods and introduce LHDs - truly designed for narrow orebodies. These investigations resulted in test trials of the sublevel blasthole, modified Avoca, and resuing mining methods. Consultations with equipment manufacturers and suppliers led to the development of the Jarvis Clark remote, radio-controlled electric scooptram and the introduction of the France Loader Microscoop."

Introduction Clearly, many problems confront the minerals industry today. Yet, at the same time, there is too much energy spent bemoaning the negative effects of difficult economic circumstances, low metals prices, and adverse government policies. These are factors that cannot be altered by individual mineral company reactions. In fact, as we look to the future, the only thing we can be certain of is that we will continue to be faced with uncertainty. Thus, an area that demands close scrutiny and that can significantly affect a company's performance in the future is the posture it adopts to deal with uncertainty. This paper looks at how strategies are developing to deal with this issue. It also examines some of the implications that implementing such strategies have for the role of the individual explorationist. Elements of strategy Whether mineral company strategies are based on diversifying or retrenching, on emphasizing primary production or downstream integration, there seems to be increasing agreement that in the current environment strategies must have several features. They need to be information-based - developed out of access to timely and complete data and analysis about proposed directions and competitor activity, rather than simply following a current fashion. They need to be flexible - adaptable in light of changes in the marketplace and an unpredictable industry. And they need to be cost-efficient - making the most of limited resources. Whether a company is looking for gold financing opportunities, acquiring polymetallic prospects, or doing grassroots exploration for diamonds, these three elements are increasingly essential. They not only allow the company to pursue its current goals most expeditiously, but also open it to hearing and using feedback in the most constructive way. The company can then improve or change strategy as it proceeds. And it can be best positioned to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. These elements of strategy place great emphasis on the skills of the individual. The need for critical intelligence and the reduced amount of capital available to manage are making it more obvious that exploration is a "people" business. This is in accordance with a general trend in many sectors of industrialized economies, reflecting the widely discussed shift from smokestack to information-based industries. Increasing the odds There is a direct connection between successfully implementing the approaches to strategy discussed above and encouraging and improving the quality of work of the individual explorationist. To illustrate the importance of this, some commonly quoted figures on the odds of discovery success can be used. These figures are arbitrary but illustrative. Assume that one out of 100 exploration prospects actually turns out to be a promising ore body, and that one out of 1000 becomes a mine. Based on our research, chances are the most of those

Engineering and economic evaluations were performed by the Bureau of Mines on 14 Frasch sulfur, 1 native sulfur, and 21 metal sulfide operations in 11 market economy countries. The evaluation included discounted-cash-flow rate-of-return economic analyses at 15 pct to determine the average total cost of production of these two commodities and the potential availability of elemental sulfur (8) and pyrite concentrate. The Bureau evaluated the potential availability of elemental sulfur and pyrite concentrate. Approximately 279 million metric tons (Mmt) of pyrite concentrate at 46 pct 8 is potentially recoverable from 422 Mmt of in situ metal sulfide ore. Nearly 89 pct of the total pyrite concentrate is available at an average total cost of production below the January 1984 pyrite concentrate market price ($43/mt). About 185 Mmt 8 is potentially recoverable from 253 Mmt of in situ elemental sulfur. About 99 pct of this sulfur is available at an average total cost of production below its January 1984 market price ($131/mt).

"PEC uranium deposit, 100 km southwest of Coppermine, was discovered by diamond drilling in 1976 following ground and airborne geophysical surveys, geological mapping, geochemical surveys and boulder prospecting that were initiated as the result of the discovery of uraniferous sandstone outcrops in 1969 by geologists of Aquitaine Company of Canada Ltd.The deposit is within gently northeasterly dipping medium to coarse-grained Unit 11 quartzitic sandstone of Neohelikian Dismal Lakes Group. The deposit is from 10 m to 70 m above the base of the sandstone which, beneath the deposit, non-conformably overlies weathered and altered Aphebian granite of Great Bear Batholith or unconformably overlies rubble breccia, conglomerate and medium-grained Unit 8 sandstone of Paleohelikian Hornby Bay Group.A northeasterly trending, 500 m wide graben, bounded by the steeply dipping northeasterly striking Imperial and Aquitaine faults, contains the deposit which is 1.1 km long by up to 340 m wide. The deposit overlies a post-Hornby Bay Group, pre-Dismal Lakes Group topographic high. Uranium principally occurs as stratabound, often peneconcordant bands; a lesser amount of uranium is fracture controlled.Stratabound uranium exists in gently easterly dipping, subparallel bands ranging in thickness from 1.5 m to 6.0 m. Pitchblende, coffinite and sooty black uranium oxides occur as interstitial disseminations and grain coatings subparallel to bedding; they also replace pyrite and form narrow veinlets.Small amounts of torbernite, carnotite and cuprosklodowskite coat pitchblende and are disseminated within mineralized bands. Pyrite, marcasite, chalcopyrite, chalcocite, cove/lite, digenite, azurite, malachite, arsenopyrite, glaucodot, niccolite, bravoite (? ), goethite, hematite and magnetite as well as quartz, barite, calcite, biotite, chlorite and clay minerals exist within the mineralized bands. Uranium grades of 0.1 % to 0.3 % U3O8 over thicknesses of 1 m to 2 m are typical.A steeply dipping fracture zone near the Imperial fault contains sooty black uranium oxides, torbernite, carnotite and cuprosklowdowskite as well as sulphides, cobalt arsenides, quartz and carbonate. The zone may reach 70 m long; its true width is about 1.9 m. Uranium grades range up to 5.18% up, over0.9m.Pitchblende and coffinite from PEC deposit have been dated at 1.08 ± .10 Ga with possible remobilization at .45 Ga. The deposit contains an inferred 3,150 tonnes of U3O8."
