Supply and Demand After a dismal first half, the industry saw a marked improvement in its markets during the final six months of 1983. Domestic consumption was 17.6% higher in the second half of the year, primarily due to a surge in electric power requirements. The sharp increase in demand for electric power during the third and fourth quarters afforded utilities the opportunity to lower stocks that had accumulated to record levels during 1982. Consumer stocks were reduced from 179 Mt (197 million st) at the end of June to 153 Mt (169 million st) by the end of the year. That is the largest inventory drawdown on record during a six-month period without a major coal strike. Despite the huge depletion in inventories, coal production in the second half of 1983 rose 1.3% above output in the second half of 1982. However, because of the disappointing first half, production in 1983 totaled only 712 Mt (785 million st), 6.4% less than the 760 Mt (838 million st) produced in 1982. Demand The extent to which the economic recovery affected coal markets in 1983 varied: • total domestic coal consumption increased 4.2%; • electric utility coal consumption increased 5.3%; • exports declined by about one-fourth; • coal consumption at coke plants declined 9.5%; and • coal consumption in the other industrial sectors increased 2.9%. Domestic coal consumption totaled 667 Mt (737 million st) it 1983, 27 Mt (30 million st) more than 1982. Electric utility consumption increased from 539 M1 (594 million st) in 1982 to 567 M1 (625 million st) in 1983. Coal consumption at coke plants declined from 37 Mt (41 million st) to 34 M1 (37 million st). Residential and commercial use increased 181 kt (200,000 st) - from 7.4 to 7.6 Mt (8.2 to 8.4 million st). Electric Utilities: Electric power generation increased 3.1% in 1983. Demand for electric power increased in all major consumer categories. Residential and commercial use rose 2.7% and 3.3%, respectively. The most striking increase, however, and indicative of the economy's strong upturn, was the increase in industrial electric power use. Industrial power requirements, which declined 9.8% in 1982, rose 4.1% in 1983. Two recent antitrust cases, coming from widely separated areas, different industries and involving wholly different facts were decided by the Supreme Court on June 7, 1965. The decisions in these two cases may well prove to be the most important and far-reaching decisions in the field of labor law that have been handed down in the last 24 years. These cases, although quite dissimilar factually, had one common element. In both, the gravamen of the antitrust violation was bottomed on the terms of labor agreements negotiated by a multiemployer group. These cases are usually referred to as Pennington1 and Jewel Teat. Since a number.-of references will be made to the antitrust laws, it may be well to state briefly the applicable portions. Section I of the Sherman Antitrust Act makes "every contract, combination in the form of trust or otherwise, or conspiracy, in restraint of trade or commerce among the several states, or with foreign nations, is declared to be illegal...". Section 2 imposes criminal sanctions against "Every person who shall monopolize, or attempt to monopolize, or combine or conspire with any other person or persons, to monopolize any part of the trade or commerce among the several states...". Under Section 4 of the Clayton Act a person who sustains damages as a result of a violation of the antitrust laws is entitled to recover treble damages plus costs.

The development and application of paste fill, cement slurry aggregate fill and shotcrete bulkheads at Mount Isa Mines is described. The progressive changes in filling style in the Mount Isa copper mines from a dry fill based cemented rock fill to tailings based paste fill and slurry fills is explained. The development of shotcrete arched bulkheads and engineered drainage system is described. Details on how Mount Isa Mines has achieved approximately 30 per cent cost reduction in backfill operations through innovations are given. The development of a rocky paste fill is explained.

Flotation of rare earths is complicated by the number of mineral classes that carry rare earth elements, including carbonates, phosphates, and silicates that often co-occur within the same deposit. Gangue constituents often belong to the same mineral classes as the rare earth minerals themselves. Chemical regimes developed for specific separations employ customized combinations of collectors, modifiers, and depressants that are not directly translatable to other operations. In this rougher flotation case study, a reagent suite including phosphate ester and sulfosuccinamate, originally developed for the recovery of bastnasite and monazite from silicate hosted ore, could not be applied to a synchysite ore hosted in carbonate gangue because the suite was aimed at silicate gangue rejection only. The separation of a fluorocarbonate mineral from carbonate gangue required a different chemical regime involving the use of hydroxamate and sodium silicate. Maximizing rare earth recovery was complicated by the presence of slimes. The effect of desliming and the increase in grind size was explored.

This work has as its objective to characterize ceramic bodies for vitrified tiles elaborated with the mixture of nepheline-syenite flux and kaolinitic clay. Formulations were prepared with 0, 30 and 50 wt.% of nepheline-syenite incorporated in a kaolinitic clay. To determine the physical and mechanical properties such as dry bulk density, linear shrinkage, water absorption and flexural rupture strength, specimens were prepared by 30 MPa uniaxial pressure-molding and then fired in a laboratory furnace at 1150oC. The microstructure of the fired ceramics was evaluated by scanning electron microscopy. The results indicated that the nepheline-syenite improved the evaluated properties of the clay and attended the specifications of vitrified ceramic tiles.

Mechanical rock breakers are used in block caving operations to reduce the size of ore fragments which are too large to pass through grizzlys at the load-haul-dumper tipping points. Several layouts of grizzly, rock breaker and ore pass are possible. The authors evaluated three different layouts at the Premier Mine Division of De Beers Consolidated Mines. The first layout consisted of a 15m surge bin before the breaker, which was located 15 m below the production level. The second layout had a 43 m longs urge bin, with the breaker located 43 m below the production level. The third layout did not have a surge bin, the breaker was located on the production level and operated at the tip. The ore throughput, availability and utilisation, delays, costs and operational experience with each system are discussed. It was found that the rock breakers did not represent a bottleneck in the ore transfer system and a surge bin did not significantly improve the production capacity. The mine has decided to make use of rock breakers situated on the production level, breaking rocks at the tip.

The Bureau of Mines conducted an exploratory field survey to determine the amount of airborne coal dust, the size distribution of the dust, and the rate of dust deposition in coal mine airways. The survey was taken at eight underground locations in operating coal mines. The rate of dust deposition in the airways depended upon the concentration of air-borne dust and decreased exponentially with distance from the dust source. The rate was seemingly independent of the size of the airborne dust particles. The rate of deposition, along a return, for the coal dust from a fade being mined with a continuous mining machine closely matched the rate for the rock dust from a trickle duster. A sample rock-dusting schedule for that return is presented; that is, the trickle duster should be operated for 3-112 hours after every five shifts to protect the average deposit of new float coal dust in the return, but operation after every three shifts is preferred, to protect an occasional heavier deposit.

Don Hausen was a pioneer in the field of quantitative mineralogy. Methodology that he developed at Newmont almost 40 years ago is still employed today, only the technology has advanced. Petrographic methods were stressed with an emphasis on alteration, mineralisation and paragenesis. Methodologies employed by Don on the Carlin deposit were applied to developing the Carlin Trend by helping to work out lithology and structure, which ultimately led to the discovery of deep high-grade deposits. Quantitative methods used by Don on San Manuel, Copper Creek and Superior, Arizona were applied to the development of the Batu Hijau Deposit in Indonesia. Advancements in technology since DonÆs time have made the mineralogist much more efficient. Manual measurement of peak heights off of strip charts for semiquantitative XRD has been replaced by software that does Rietveld refinement and whole pattern fitting. Hand contouring of XRD data has been replaced by digitised data incorporated into geologic models. Optical point counting, which would take a dayÆs work to process 1000 points, has been replaced by automated SEM methods where 20 000 points are possible in an hour. The use of the optical microscope remains relatively unchanged, and still remains as Don emphasised the æeyesÆ of mineral exploration. However, the information can be relayed much more quickly with digital image capture and electronic data transfer. Don insisted on becoming involved in projects at the grassroots level and supporting the project through mine closure. This made the mineralogist a liaison between exploration geologists, mine geologists, metallurgists and mine engineers. The methodology that Don helped develop continues to provide invaluable support to Newmont geologists and metallurgists worldwide today.

The Kauri Block (Hauraki Hill) andMatawai Valley epithermal vein systems, near Coromandel township, are hosted by hydrothermally altered Miocene andesites and Mesozoic greywackes of the Coromandel VolcanicZone. The hydrological setting of both geothermal systems was probably that of an andesitic volcanic arc. Two types of veins are recognised: 1. Simple veins composed of fine comb quartz, and 2. Complex (breccia) veins composed of vein fragments of sulphide-bearing, chalcedonic silica cemented by saccharoidal and fine comb quartz.   Pyrite, arsenopyrite, marcasite, and gold form the ore minerals. Both deposits historically exploited hypogene and supergene bonanza gold.   At Hauraki Hill, breccia veins up to 7m wide contain abundant fragments of recrystallised colloform banded-crustiform textured quartz veins ('Golden Cross' style) and were probably major channels for ascending deep mineralising fluids. Alteration assemblages are zoned with the higher elevations of Hauraki Hill-Bunkers Hill characterised by strong kaolinite alteration whereas deeper levels are dominated by illitic clays.   At Matawai, complex veins and hydrothermal breccias pinch and swell, and inflect, within a total width of veining and alteration that exceeds 50 m. The greywacke host rocks are altered to an assemblage of illitesmectite, quartz, chlorite and pyrite although there are pockets of kaolinite.   The proposed genesis of veins and ores in both deposits invokes episodic rapid mixing (quenching) of hot mineralising reservoir fluids with cool acid condensate waters, whilst acidification and increased fO2 triggered gold deposition. These hydrothermal systems heated up during their later stages and at Matawai visible gold was deposited from a late mesothermal stage. The main conclusion is that the northwest CVZ has excellent potential for large gold deposits (= 30 tonnes contained gold).

Rolling disc cutters are the business end of hard-rock and mixed-face tunnel boring machines (TBMs). Since their first successful employment on a TBM more than 50 years ago, disc cutter technology has constantly evolved, allowing modern TBMs to excavate very hard and abrasive rock efficiently. Disc cutters have also been employed successfully on earth pressure balance (EPB) and slurry machines, cutting rock under water and ground pressure. The range of materials excavated by machines today is broader, excavation rates are higher and cutter costs are lower than ever before, proving the value of investment in cutter development. Disc cutters are used on a range of tunneling equipment, from pipe jacked slurry micro-TBMs less than 1 m (3.3 ft) in diameter to 15 m (49 ft) in diameter, hard-rock boring TBMs. The geological conditions under which they are employed range from sands and gravels, with several bar of water pressure, to extremely hard, massive rock with UCS up to 420 MPa. Regardless of the type of machine or geology, one thing remains constant: changing worn out cutters is costly. When cutters must be changed in the middle of a tunnel, the contractor incurs the cost of downtime as well as the cost of refurbishing or replacing the cutters. In the case of catastrophic cutter failures, the project can be stopped completely for long periods, and the costs mount up rapidly while tunnel production is at a stand still. Catastrophic cutter failures include the occasion when hard-rock disc cutters are failed in groups (called a ?wipeout? phenomenon) and the operator fails to stop the machine, which results in severe damage to the cutterhead. The cause of this can be either an undetected failed cutter propagating damage to surrounding cutters or operator error in steering. Regardless of the cause, the resulting damage can take days or even weeks to repair. When cutters fail prematurely on EPB or slurry machines in certain geological conditions, it is impossible to evacuate the chamber and, therefore, impossible to get [ ] into the chamber to change the cutters. The solution is frequently an unplanned intervention shaft that must be sunk at great cost. The importance of being able to predict cutter life accurately, and in all geological conditions, cannot be overemphasized. For these reasons, cutters have been developed for specific machine types and sizes, as well as for specific geological operating conditions. Different size cutters are required for different size machines. For example, while 483- and 508-mm (19- and 20-in.) cutters are used on large diameter TBMs, it is impossible to employ cutters so large on a small micro-TBM. Also, the cutter must be designed for the specific geological conditions under which it will be operating. The disc cutter rings required to bore extremely hard rock are the most expensive of cutter rings. However, they provide little advantage in weaker rock formations where less expensive rings will do the job as well. It is important to choose the correct cutter for the machine and the geological conditions in order to get the best balance of cost and risk.

At Bethlehem's Grace mine's 6000-tpd pelletizing plant a cascade control system is utilized to approach a constant magnetite filter cake moisture, a critical factor in obtaining quality green pellets. Variables being controlled by instrumentation are filter feed solids, filter tub level, first and second stage pump sump levels and thickener sludge level, all at varying feed rates. Startup difficulties, modifications and contemplated additions to obtain closer control of the moisture are discussed. Situated 45 miles west of Philadelphia and 50 miles southwest of Bethlehem Steel Co. 's Beth-lehem plant, the integrated Grace mine facilities produce 4000 tpd of high-quality iron ore pellets. Startup of the Grace mill was in November 1958, and iron concentrates were shipped until March 1960, when the pellet plant went into operation. The underground mine, when fully developed, will hoist about 9000 tpd, including development rock. The crude ore, which has an iron content of approximately 42%, is magnetically cobbed and crushed in closed circuit with %-in. slotted vibrating screens. The ore is washed and screened in the mill and the 1/4-in. screen product is again cobbed prior to feeding to the rod mills. Grinding is done in rod mills, and in ball mills that are in closed circuit with 30-in. cyclones, to 1% on 100 mesh and 65% -325 mesh. The ground ore is magnetically concentrated by three-drum permanent-type finisher magnets to 67% Fe. The magnetite concentrate is pumped from the mill to a 50-ft thickener in the pellet plant. The thickened magnetite concentrate is relayed to the filters through a two-stage pump arrangement. The filter cake is fed by belt from filter concentrate bins to mixer-muller belts where it is intimately mixed with bentonite and a slight amount of water for moisture control. The fluffed concentrate then drops into balling cones. The green pellets from the balling cones are fed in a prescribed feed pattern to shaft furnaces through the use of shuttle car mechanisms. The green pellets are dried, heated to 2500°F and cooled to 1200°F as they descend through the furnace and into pellet coolers where the pellets are further reduced in temperature to 250°F. Heat is recovered in the cooling process through the use of air-to-air heat exchangers. The cooled pellets discharge on a rubber conveyor belt and are transferred to 6000-ton pellet railroad loading bin. The final pellet product consists of 90% +'1/4 in. material (after tumble testing1) and contains 66% Fe plus 3% silica. It has been the usual practice to maintain constant filter tank level by pumping an excess constant volume and using a moveable fishtail splitter to divert the desired amount of slurry to the filter tank. The excess from the fishtail and from the filter overflow pipe, which maintains a constant level, is returned to the source. The U.S. Bureau of Mines is investigating surfactants added to water sprays to enhance the control of dust during coal mining operations. The objective of the present work was to establish the general applicability of adding sulfate ion to anionic surfactant solutions in order to improve wetting action. This was pursued through laboratory wettability testing of four anionic surfactants and one nonionic surfactant in combination with various concentrations of sulfate ion. The experimental results demonstrated that the addition of sulfate ion enhanced the wetting characteristics of all the anionic surfactants when applied to hard-to-wet coals, while easy-to-wet coal showed more complex wetting behavior. Sulfate ion in the presence of nonionic surfactant enhanced wetting only slightly or not at all. Surface tension measurements of the dilute aqueous surfactant-sulfate anion solutions indicated this property was not important in coal-wetting phenomena, as long as the value was below the critical value for coal. Sulfate ion helps surfactant reduce surface tension but primarily appears to affect wetting action by altering the adsorption characteristics of surfactant on the coal surface.

The National Safety Competition is sponsored and conducted annually by the Bureau of Mines, U. S. Department of the Interior, to stimulate greater interest in safety in the mineral-extractive industries and to encourage the development of more effective accident-prevention programs. Since its beginning in 1925, thirty-four safety contests have been conducted. This publication reports results of the 11 annual contests for the period 1948-1958, inclusive. Mineral operations awarded the "Sentinels of Safety" trophy for the best safety record in their competitive group as well as those ranking second, third, fourth, and fifth are listed along with a summary of their achievements in preventing disabling injuries. In addition, this publication contains statistical information reflecting the disabling work-injury experience of all other mines and quarries enrolled in the annual contests. The injury statistics of these operations are arranged in the six groups of the competition and through 1955 are the only data on injury-severity at noncoal mineral operations published by the Bureau of Hines. Recognition of the National Safety Competition in promoting safety has increased steadily during its 34 years. The number of plants participating in these annual competitions increased from 210 in 1925, its first year, to a record of 675 in 1958. The expanding scope of the National Safety Competition indicates that more mines and quarries in the United States are enrolling 90 all available means to promote safety on the job will be used. Safety contests like this are generally recognized, in the field of safety promotion, as an effective way to arouse and hold the interest of employees and officials in accident-prevention programs. They tend to forge individual precautionary acts into group action centered on a common objective, such as winning the ?Sentinels of Safety? trophy.

The minerals industry is faced with choices beginning in the exploration phase and extending over the life cycle of the mine. Firms examine the technical feasibility of alternative actions and typically rank them based on economic performance. Increasingly firms also consider alternativesÆ contribution to sustainable development. There are many visions of what a sustainable future should look like and much debate about what should be sustained. Sustainability is a process, a series of incremental actions, and each alternative course of action has the potential to further progress toward one or more sustainability goal. However, because it is not possible to sustain everything everywhere simultaneously, trade-offs and choices inevitably have to be made.Sustainable decision making before investment (ex ante decisions) should incorporate a broad suite of quantitative and qualitative information. One approach is to utilise an integrated sustainability assessment (ISA) framework that supplements traditional technical and financial tools with other tools such as objectives hierarchies (OH) and life cycle assessments (LCA). OH is a problem framing method that captures stakeholder and decision maker interests, objectives and values. LCA addresses material and energy flows, and environmental impacts. The outputs of these tools can be combined with additional qualitative measures and analysed using multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA). MCDA models facilitate comparison of different alternatives on the basis of a set of criteria and indicators. Some can incorporate information on risk attitudes and preferences ( multi-attitribute value theory models) and others uncertainty about outcomes (multi-attribute utility models). Studies have been published describing and comparing tools for minerals sector decision analysis. Our paper extends this literature, discussing how a combined OH-LCA-MCDA can support ex ante sustainability assessment by incorporating preferences, risk attitudes, and monetised or non-monetised social and economic variables, in a manner that captures their inherent complexity. We also discuss how such a combined model would support trade-off analysis.

There was no need for the people of Cleveland to ask “Where does the raw sewage go? We want to know!” because it was clear. The raw sewage was being discharged into Lake Erie during heavy rainfall events due to the outdated design of the combined sewer system. In efforts to resolve this ongoing issue for the City of Cleveland, the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District developed Project Clean Lake in collaboration with the US EPA. Project Clean Lake is a 25-year, $3 billion program consisting of seven large-diameter CSO storage tunnels to be constructed beneath the city’s existing infrastructure. The first four tunnels have been completed using traditional hard rock TBM excavation methods. The fifth tunnel, the Shoreline Storage Tunnel Project, presents unique challenges and complexities as it will be the first large-diameter EPB TBM to dig under the City of Cleveland. The project itself consists of one tunnel drive 14,100' (2.7 miles) in length, two pipe jacking tunnels, three large slurry wall shafts, two diversion structures, and three regulator reconstructions. Upon completion of the project, 12 permitted CSO locations along Lake Erie will be taken offline, reducing overflow volumes by approximately 350 million gallons per year. This paper will discuss the current status of construction and the chosen means and methods, including the myriad of nuanced differences between hard rock and EPB TBM tunneling methods. Particular attention will be given to the site preparation, setup, and organization; TBM assembly; and TBM launching practices.

The Mining industry faces many challenges, one of which is the demand to communicate over a variety of media, be it visual, sound, voice, data or any combination. Over the years multiple infrastructures have been put in place to overcome environmental obstacles and address these communication needs. A mine is an aggressive environment for electronic equipment and as such only the best quality equipment can perform under those special conditions of e.g. temperature, dust and humidity. Siemens Canada and its partner LComm will discuss a mining solution using a unique combination of technologies based on fibre optics, standard communication interfaces, passive antenna infrastructure and wireless services. The presentation looks at maximizing the use of infrastructure, reducing costs, addressing difficulty of communications coverage above and below the surface and the capability to future proof the capital investment as new requirements and applications are identified. Discussion will address: Wireless voice, high speed data Data acquisition for process control from sensors Video for remote control and security Miner safety and location Timely receipt of large volumes of information

This paper reviews the changes in the coal industry over the past 30 years and attempts to predict the trends over the next ten years. The last 30 years have seen a steady concentration of production into fewer, larger mines, which operate on 3: more continuous basis, and a major increase in productivity per employee. Coal exports have increased from zero to almost half the country's total production. As well as major changes in exploration and mining equipment and the increasing use of computer tools, the industry now operates in a relatively new regulatory and commercial environment.   Safety legislation now requires the writing and enforcement of policies and procedures by the mining companies, rather than adherence to inflexible regulations enforced by an Inspector. Accident rates have decreased dramatically. The transition from coal mining licences to permits, requiring landowner consent and resource consents, is well under way. Environmental controls are now an essential aspect of the industry.   Equipment suppliers now offer maintenance services, production guarantees and flexible financing.  Contract miners offer mine design and restoration as part of the contract. In a similar approach, Solid Energy now offer an ash disposal service and assistance with resource consents to their customers as well as investment in technology to ensure a consistent product to demanding specifications. Solid Energy has proposals for energy centres which install and operate the coal burning appliances and simply sell energy to the customers. The next 10 years should see an intensification of these trends of bigger mines, more exports and greater technology and a 'package' approach to customer service.

This paper reports recent progress in the development of a unique metal extraction technology utilizing zirconia-based inert anodes for the electrolytic reduction of metals from their oxides. In this process, the target metal oxide is dissolved in an ionically conducting liquid solvent phase. An extended anode consisting of an oxygen-ion-conducting stabilized zirconia membrane in intimate contact with a catalytically active electronic phase and an inert electronically conducting cathode are inserted into the molten flux containing the oxide. When the appropriate electric potential is applied between the electrodes the target metal is reduced at the cathode and oxygen ions are selectively transported across the stabilized zirconia membrane and oxidized at the anode. When the process is conducted at temperatures between 1200-1400°C, the ohmic resistance drop across the stabilized zirconia membrane is low, and high current densities on the order of I A/cm2 or greater can be obtained. In addition, the process efficiency can be increased further by directly reforming hydrocarbon fuel over the anode. Laboratory experiments at Boston University have demonstrated the technical viability of employing zirconia-based inert anodes for environmentally sound production of metals such as magnesium, tantalum, aluminum, etc., directly from their oxides. Significant progress has been made in the application of this concept to the electrolytic reduction of magnesium at 1300°C. The research topics covered include stability of the zirconia membrane in the selected molten solvent (flux), volatility of the flux, electrochemical characterization of the electrolytic cell, and analysis of the metals produced.

The arrival of Image analysis in the last 20 years has changed the world of quantitative metallography. Many standard measurement techniques which were previously manual can now be done with fully automated systems. This reduces subjectivity and operator fatigue and therefore enhances the quality of the statistical results. In many laboratories, Titanium Alloy microstructures continue to be evaluated by traditional methods, where quality of results is subject to operator fatigue and level of experience. Advances in Camera technology have tremendously improved image acquisition. One can often see clearly at 500x what can not be observed at 1000x, allowing for a larger area to be analyzed, without the inconveniences associated with very high magnification objectives. Powerful and versatile Image analysis software combined with a high precision motorized stage gives access to a multitude of applications, which were extremely challenging or impossible until now. Image Analysis tools such as Multilayer Grab, which reconstructs an uneven image into one plane of focus (ex. Observation at high magnification of texture resulting from etching) and Mosaic which builds an image from a number of fields of view (ex. Reconstruction of very large grains at low magnifications) expand even further the power and flexibility of IA systems. This presentation will describe how automated methods are applied to the point count method and grain size measurement. We will show how cameras and software work together to permit quantitative measurements of primary alpha and prior beta microstructures, as well as lamellar alpha plate thickness in titanium alloys.Automated and semi automated quantitative measurements of various Titanium microstrures have been assessed, using the Clemex Vision PE. Examples of the methods and steps used are presented.

"In this study, the adsorption characteristics of tannin acid in aqueous solution were investigated using regenerated activated carbon (AC), with the aim to remove the tannin acid organic matter from the solution after zinc hydrometallurgy and Ge precipitation. Results showed the temperature has little effect on the adsorption ability (q.) of the regenerated activated carbon. The experimental equilibrium data were tested for the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption equilibrium was better described by the Langmuir isotherm (R2 > 0.99). Pseudo first- and second-order kinetic models were used for describing kinetic data. It was determined that the kinetics of tannin acid removal was well fitted by second-order reaction.IntroductionGermanium recovery is a complex processes [1]. Hydrometallurgical processes are favoured and these are based on the precipitation of germanium as hydroxide or sulphide or alternately with tannic acid [2]. However, in the germanium recovery process, too much tannin is consumed by the germanium-tannins complexation process, and results in a high content of tannic acid remaining in solution, which is harmful to the valuable metal recovery [3]."
