"Circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) combustion technology has been around for over 40 years, but over the last 6 years it has been commercially demonstrated at the 500 MWe scale at the Lagisza plant located in Bedzin, Poland. The CFB at the Lagisza plant has unique first-of-a-kind design features, such as vertical-tube supercritical steam technology and a lowtemperature flue-gas heat extraction that allows the plant to achieve high plant efficiencies of over 43% (net lower heating value). Another unusual feature for a coal power plant is that this plant meets all its atmospheric emission permit levels without any post-combustion de-NOx or de-SOx equipment such as selective catalytic reduction (SCR) or flue-gas desulphurization (FGD).CFB clean coal power technology is entering the utility power sector just in time to help deal with declining quality in internationally traded coals and to promote the large-scale use of economic, low-quality domestic fuels. Owing to the very attractive price discounts, growing supplies of low-quality Indonesian coals are outpacing the supply of high-quality Australian, Russian, and US coals. In Germany and Turkey, the use of domestic lignites for power production provides a secure and economic energy solution while creating domestic jobs.Conventional pulverized coal (PC) boilers will have trouble accepting these off-specification coals because of their narrow fuel specifications; they typically call for heating values above 5500 kcal/kg. This limitation is not an issue for CFB technology because of its ability to burn the worst and best of coals with heating values ranging from 3900 to 8000 kcal/kg.This paper provides an outlook for future coal supply, quality, and price, as well as a review of the technical and economic benefits of CFB technology firing low-quality fuels for utility power generation."

The fines produced is not suitable as feed material for the subsequent rotary kiln and the electrical arc furnace. The need for briquetting the ferronickel ore is premised on the minimisation of fine particles in the rotary kiln as well as improving charge permeability in the furnace, and improving overall process safety. Briquetting may be defined as an agglomeration method in which fine particles are compressed under pressure. It consists of three different technologies: vibropressing, roller pressing and stiff extrusion. The current study focuses on evaluating the performance of ferronickel briquettes generated, using roller-pressing technology. Physical properties, chemical properties and metallurgical properties of the briquettes were used to evaluate their performance and quality. Standard ISO tests for iron ore pellets were used. Size degradation as a result of reduction was measured using the ISO 4696-1 test. The decrepitation of the briquettes at the point of entry into the rotary kiln was evaluated using the ISO 8371 test method at a temperature of 700oC. The degree of reduction was evaluated using the ISO 4695 test procedure. Average green briquette compressive strength of 559 N was reported at a moisture content of 16% with an average drop number of 19.1. Increasing the moisture content has a detrimental effect on both the compressive strength and the green briquette yield. The drop number is expressed as the number of drops until breakage, when a briquette is dropped from a 1 m height, decreased with an increase in moisture content. This paper is one of a series dealing with special mining problems and forming part of a general study of mining, methods and costs being conducted under direction of the Bureau of Mines. A considerable part of the material assembled and discussed in this paper has been gathered from articles on individual mines written by consulting engineers to the bureau who are engaged in active mine operation at the properties described, while other data have been taken from the technical press or gathered from personal observations. OBJECT AND SCOPE OF PAPER C. F. Jackson4 ha[-] pointed out that underground transportation (tramming, haulage, and hoisting) absorbs an appreciable percentage of the total underground cost of most mines, averaging for different methods of mining 12.9 to 28.4 per cent of the total underground cost. In general the percentage of cost accounted for by transportation was shown to be highest for the low-cost mining methods.

The machine for the hybrid method called JACSMAN is ordinarily a dual shaft machine. Each shaft has augers at three different levels and nozzles for jetting at two different levels. The distance between two shafts may be changed according to the particular requirements. Figure 4 shows single shaft and a treated soil column created by the method. The diameter of the auger is 1.0 m. As the jetting nozzles locate at the periphery of the auger, jetting can achieve the additional treated soil column beyond the diameter of the auger. The diameter of the jetting improvement is fixed at 2.3 m.
