The great majority of stokers used in residential heating installations are of the clinkering type. Because of inherent characteristics of the under- feed combustion process as it occurs in these small stokers, and because of the wide range of operating conditions encountered in residential heating schedules, not all bituminous coals can be used successfully in residential underfeed units. The problem of providing consumer satisfaction has been attacked by the joint efforts of the stoker manufacturers and the coal industry; the stoker manufacturers have been concerned with improving their product to permit the use of a wider range of coals, and coal operators have made every effort to market selected and better prepared coals. In view of the wide range of physical characteristics and chemical properties of bituminous coals, the problems are real and are receiving increased attention.

Abstract：A rational cooling water system is the assurance for long campaign life of blast furnace．In the paper, the heat transfer of different furnace period and different furnace condition based on the water quality characteristics were analysed, and the reason of the heat flux over the normal from the hydrodynamics was analysed. The results showed that, the vapour-film and scale existence significantly influenced the hearth heat transfer, which accelerated the brick lining erosion. The water dynamic characteristics of the parallel inner pipe or among the pipes were the main reason for the abnormal heat flux and film boiling. As to the reasonable cooling water flow, the gas film and the scale should be controlled and the energy saving should be considered.

The panic bars (and associated linkages and electrical circuitry) that are defined in this document are a machine operator-actuated control for the emergency deenergization of the tram motors on self-propelled, electric and diesel face equipment; including haulage equipment such as shuttle cars. There are nine basic types of panic bars (and several variations) that are recommended in this document, but all of the panic bars are characteristically of the ?fire door? type that is frequently encountered on outside exit doors of many public and some commercial buildings. It is also the intent of the following panic bar designs that, when emergency brakes are added to the face equipment machinery for which they are required, that they be designed and hooked up so that actuation of the panic bar will result in automatic application of the emergency brakes (immediately following the deenergization of the tram motors). The following panic bar design requirements are a restatement of the proposed requirements defined in the Federal Register, requirements cited in "Guidelines for the Design and Installation of Devices for Deenergization of Self -Propelled Electric Face Equipment/Automatic Emergency Brake s II by C. E. Lester and J. D. Greenhalgh of MESA, and Bendix recommendations that were formulated as a result of discussions with personnel at the various machine manufacturers and underground coal mines that we surveyed, discussions with G. L. Judy (our consultant), etc:

"Caterpillar is the largest manufacturer of mining equipment in the world. In hundreds of surface mines around the globe, Caterpillar’s flagship 793 haul trucks can be found moving material for copper, coal, gold, iron ore and other mines. Likewise, its iconic yellow bulldozers are at mine sites the world over — the company recently announced the sale of its 40,000th large dozer. And since its acquisition of Bucyrus in 2011, Caterpillar has positioned itself to become a worldwide leader in the underground mining sector as well.But don’t think that the company is resting on its reputation. As evidence of its commitment to the global mining sector, as well as its confidence in the future of mining, Caterpillar invited mining trade press, including Mining Engineering, to its Tinaja Hills Training Center near Tucson, AZ in November to introduce the latest editions to its mining portfolio. The two-day event focused mostly on the newest electric drive haul trucks, the Cat 796 AC, which will operate in the 326-t (360-st) class, and the 798 AC in the 360 t (400 st) weight class.Caterpillar representatives also spoke about new offerings in the underground space as well as the newest version of the D11 large dozer.“It has been 10 years since we launched the F Series,” Jean Savage, Caterpillar’s vice president, surface mining and technology said. “Since then, we have been on a journey to serve our mining customers and we wanted to have trucks in every application. Today, we are launching two new trucks that will allow us to fill out our portfolio.”While Caterpillar previously offered the broadest range of off-highway haul trucks to the mining industry, it was noticeably absent from the 326-t (360- st) and 360-t (400-st) weight classes."

It is well known that manganiferous silver ores containing manganese intimately associated with silver are not amenable to conventional extraction methods. The segregation process has been applied primarily for recovering copper from oxidized and oxide-sulfide ores. A new alternative process combining segregation roasting followed by flotation to recover silver from refractory manganiferous silver ores, was studied using a 23 factorial experimental design. Laboratory investigations have been conducted on a manganiferous silver ore analyzing 0.02% copper, 0.09% lead, 0.33% zinc, 12.55% manganese and 187 g/ton silver to study the effects of additives salt, coke and copper oxide on silver recovery. Results indicate that 79.3% silver recovery can be attained in the absence of copper oxide and 88.4% when the copper oxide content is 1.5% at '750°C, 2% salt and 1% coke and 30 minutes of roasting time. It was concluded that doping with copper oxide improves silver recovery.

The Bureau of Mines compared the feasibility of mining deep phosphate deposits by a borehole mining system with mining by proven conventional techniques. An economic comparison of the borehole mining system with conventional dragline and bucket wheel excavator mining systems was completed at various mining depths and production rates. Hypothetical phosphate deposits, with various overburden thicknesses and reserve tonnages, were defined. Geologic conditions necessary for the application of the borehole system were identified. Discounted cash flow analyses based on derived capital and operating costs were used to generate rates of return and product prices. Borehole mining was found to be more economical where overburden thickness was 150 ft or greater; however, at 50- and 100-ft thicknesses, conventional surface mining was more economical. Overburden thickness has a great effect on the economic feasiblity of the conventional mining systems but less effect on the economics of borehole mining. Economies of scale are only realized in conventional mining, since larger equipment is employed to achieve greater production, whereas increased production from borehole mining is achieved using additional equipment units. A comparison of the environmental effects of borehole and conventional surface mining systems showed that borehole mining is environmentally more desirable.

The Cu/Al composite wires have been widely used in cable industry. Especially in the development of aerospace, the light weight character of wires is particularly important. The wires are fabricated by a drawing process and heat treatment. Mechanical and electrical properties are measured and analyzed. The bending behavior is studied by scanning electron microscope. INTRODUCTION Cu/Al composite is a typical bimetallic composite that has been used in plenty of fields such as automobile and aerospace. The composite has the advantages of excellent conductivity as well as low weight, which cannot be obtained from single copper or aluminum. Industrial products of Cu/Al composite include Cu/Al composite joints (Uscinowicz, R., 2013), Cu/Al bimetallic sheets (Li, X. et al., 2011), Cu/Al flat bar (Wu, Y. & Liu, X. & Xie, J., 2014) and CCA wires (Ahmed N., 1978). CCA wires refer to the composite wires that copper layer concentrically coated on the surface of aluminum core conductor, implementing solid combination of two metals on the interface and forming an integral. At present, the aircraft cable generally use copper or copper alloy conductor, which makes the wire in the aircraft occupy a considerable proportion due to the large density of copper. Therefore, the use of Cu/Al composite wires instead of copper wires for weight loss, is of great significance to the development of aerospace technology industry. Heat treatment is an indispensable procedure to improve plasticity during cold working process, which is of great importance to preparation of wires (Wang, Q. et al., 2008). During the heat treatment, the Intermetallic Compounds (IMCs) are inevitable formed at the contact area of Cu/Al due to the occurrence of diffusion (Lee, S. et al., 2012). According to the results of former researchers, kinds of IMCs were discovered. Antoine Gueydan (2014) identified the formation of three IMCs (Al2Cu, AlCu, and Al4Cu9) at the interface between copper and aluminum after thermal aging. IMCs have a significant effect to the properties of Cu/Al wires. Bending performance is a vital property for the actual application of wires. The brittle IMCs may create a stress concentration that can cause crack initiation during bending process. This work focus on the mechanical properties of Cu/Al composite wires after heat treatment. The effect of various annealing condition on mechanical and electrical properties are studied, in order to find the appropriate annealing conditions, which produce optimal combination properties of Cu/Al clad composite wires. Bending fracture of composite wires is discussed by morphology observation.

Traditionally within the mining industry, single models for both grade and geology of orebodies are created upon which all mine development decisions are based. These models provide a single interpretation of the extent and continuity of the mineralization envelope based on solids and sections interpreted from relatively wide spaced drilling i.e. the models infer behaviour of grade and geology at smaller/local scales based on data available at wider scales. The variable behaviour of grade and geology cannot be derived from single kriged resource models. In recognition of this, Newmont Mining Corporation typically uses Sequential Gaussian Simulation (SGS) to quantify grade variability and to determine its effect on some of these mine development decisions. In most of these studies the mineralized envelope remains fixed and grade simulations are generated within a fixed volume. To account for uncertainty in the geology/ mineralization envelope Newmont Mining Corporation has been experimenting with Multiple Point Statistics (MPS). Multiple-Point Statistics is an emerging technique, which can be used to generate multiple, geologically realistic, realizations of data that displays complex non-linear features. MPS uses a conceptual model of the geology, called a Training Image (TI), to infer these high-order spatial relationships. The multiple realizations allow for an assessment of the geologic uncertainty, which can be further combined with grade simulations to generate a more complete picture of the true uncertainty of a mineral deposit.

Flotation is a highly interactive process where a change or disturbance in any part of the circuit results in different final grades and recoveries. This high variability of the circuit metallurgical performance complicates the diagnosis of the scavenger stage at the end of the line, as copper losses in the final tailings are erratic and not totally a consequence of problems in the scavenger section. The assessment of the scavenger performance requires a more elaborated procedure than that used for others stages of the circuit. This communication describes the application of an approach that combines results of laboratory flotation tests with those of surveys performed at the plant. The approach is based on running surveys in one of the circuit lines to collect samples for determining grade vs. recovery curves for total mass and size-by-size fractions. Full mineralogical and liberation analyses are also considered on some samples of the feed and tailings streams selected to have a range of feed grades. A separate sample of the feed is used to run laboratory flotation tests to determine optimum flotation time. Two additional pieces of information are the effect of operating variables on recovery, determined through a test program based on design of experiment techniques, and operational data on every cell in the line gathered by visual observation. The application of this approach to one of the scavenger lines at Los Colorados concentrator (Minera Escondida, BHP Billiton) is demonstrated.

As the usage of BIM increased in the construction industry, some construction owners started exploring the use of BIM for maintaining their facilities. Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBIE), a spreadsheet data format suggested in 2007 to manipulate building information, is considered as one of the solutions that would facilitate the process of transferring information from BIM to applications for facilities management. Several BIM and Computer Aided Facilities Management (CAFM) applications offer functions to export or import the COBIE data. To facilitate the process of generating the COBIE data out of Building Information Model, some add-in applications, such as COBIE Toolkit for Revit, also were developed. However, most of these applications handle a limited amount of COBIE data. Professionals using these add-in applications therefore sometimes end up spending a significant amount of time to add additional data manually to the COBIE data file. To automatically get a data-rich COBIE file, we developed a prototype application that extracts information from Revit, which is one of the BIM authoring tools, stores them in an external database, and then produces the COBIE file using information stored in the database. We applied our application to a pilot project and produced 8 COBIE worksheets automatically, which demonstrated a significant amount of time saving. This paper presents how our prototype application produces 8 COBIE data sets automatically. It also addresses our attempt to handle more COBIE data sets.

In Japan, the increasing number of automobiles newly put into circulation is followed by a larger amount of end-of-life vehicles from which valuable metals are being recovered in shredder and related plants. Nevertheless, the processing of these scrapped automobiles which has reach a recycling rate of about 75%, generates a huge volume of waste, locally known as .shredder dust., which is commonly dumped on landfills. The saturation and depletion of valuable disposal sites in the near future, as well as the social and environmental problems related to the accumulation of these residues disposals are a major challenge for the automobile shredding industry. To promote an alternative way for the management of these disposals, the authors have initiated and developed a system for their processing, on the basis that more than 90% of these residues are combustible materials that could be used as refuses derived fuel. The developed processing system points out the mechanical/physical separation of shredded automobiles residues into two streams by means of an ascending airflow passing through a vertical zigzag separator and, the compaction of the light-density fraction of materials (that is about 60% of auto shredder residue recovered as float products and mainly composed of cotton, sponges and light plastics) to form a refuse derived fuel (RDF), the density, calorific value and ignition loss of which are 1.19 g/cm3, 4470 kcal/kg and 60.7%, respectively.

"China is the world's largest steel producer, in order to give environment load comprehensive analysis of steel and iron industry in china using LCA method, the life cycle inventory was compiled and assessment model based on Gabi software was also established. Environmental impact of two different routes ofBF-BOF and the EAF were analyzed respectively and intercompared. The results show that the modem EAF route is superior to the traditional BFBOF route on almost all the environmental impact indexes, which including acidification potential, eutrification potential, global warming potential, ozone depletion potential, etc. In the whole life cycle ofBF-BOF route in China, the transporting process ranks the biggest contribution part to the overall global warming potential, which can be explained by the fossil fuel burning of transporting vehicles during the long distance from Australia to China as the iron ore used are mainly imported from Australia. Apart from transporting process, Coking, blast furnace and iron mining processes could induce great environmental problems, while for the EAF route, the electricity consumption is considerable, which causing large amount ofC02 emission indirectly. Based on the analysis, several further countermeasures were proposed. At the year of2009, China crude steel output of 568 million tons, accounting for 46.6% of the global crude steel production, more than the total sum of crude steel production produced by 20 countries ranked behind. In 2011, China's crude steel production which is expected to be or close to 700 million tons, an increase of 12% than last year, will account for half of the global steel production.The steel industry, however, is intensive resources industry with huge consumptions of energy and water together with mineral resources. Energy consumption of the iron and steel industry has been about 10% of the total energy consumption since 1980. Coal dominants, power next and other energies share least in the energy consumption structure, for example coal accounts for 72.19%, power 23.52% and other total sums less than 5% in the steel energy consumption at year of 2002[2,3]. The consumption of coal discharges much emission of CO2, yet emissions of C02 in China steel industry, secondary only to the power and cement industry, ranked the third, and the coal dominant energy structure and its process have a close relationship. The aim of this research is to target steel production of typical blast furnace-converter (BFBOF) and electric furnace, using GABI software to evaluate and analyze resources and environment influence of LCA, directing at the existing problems in the development of China steel as well as finding the possible way to improve ability of reducing pollution and energy consumption in order to realize the sustainable development of the steel industry [ 4-7]."

"The correlation obtained by plotting pH of maximum adsorption of dextrin versus the isoelectric point of involved metal hydroxides can be used to predict the depressing effect of dextrin on flotation in ""pure"" sulfide mineral systems. Sulfides are strongly depressed by dextrin whenever their surfaces are coated by the corresponding metal hydroxide. The efficiency of dextrin as a depressant is affected by the adsorption of the sulfhydryl collector. Hydrolyzable cations modify this relationship in flotation of sulfide ores. This type of deviation of the real-life systems from the predictions based on the behavior of the pure systems shows the possible ways that could be followed to further improve the obtained correlations. Earlier we described the uranium mineralogy of an areally broad sampling of Crownpoint ore, including the characterization of organic carbonaceous material associated with the uranium mineral. (1) We also reported on the leaching behavior of Crownpoint ores with a mild alkaline leaching system, oxygen (02)-sodium bicarbonate (NaHC03). (2) There was a wide range of leaching responses, with samples from some areas leaching at a slow rate with low uranium recovery. Evidence indicates that in these samples the organic material is intimately associated with the uranium mineral and shields it to some extent from contact by the leachate. (1,2) One method to obtain faster leach rates and higher recoveries is to use a chemically severe leaching system such as sodium hypochlorite (NaOCI) as an oxidant. (3) The use of sulfuric acid (H2SO4) and an oxidant for leaching ore in surface milling operations is widely practiced to effect high recovery of uranium (U308) from the ore. (4,5,6) The U308 is mobilized as the disulfate complex, U02(S04)224-, or possibly, the trisulfate complex, U02(S04)34-, is the soluble species. (7) Sulfuric acid leachate formulations were used in the first in-situ leaching operation in the Shirley Basin in Wyoming. (8) More recently H2S04 formulations have been used in the Rocky Mountain Energy field tests in the Powder River Basin (Bear Creek) and in the Teapot forma¬tion at Nine Mile Lake site near Casper. (9,10) Laboratory studies related to the use of H2SO4 for in-situ leaching have been reported (11-17) and Yan has .reported packed column leach studies on Crownpoint ore using H2504 and oxidant. "AbstractThis paper discusses the methods of handling air in a large asbestos mill presently being completed at the Jeffrey mine of the Canadian Johns-Manville Company in Asbestos, Quebec.The mill, being the largest single asbestos producer in the world and capable of handling over 14,000 tons of ore per day, requires vast quantities of air. A minimum of 2,500.000 c.f.m. is required or about 10 tons of air for each ton of ore milled.Short descriptions of the process and systems requiring this air are given, followed by details of the fans and filters which make up the heart of the mill.This 'draw through' system, located on the top or 12th floor, is an automatically .controlled volume-pressure system creating the required suction to draw .air throughout the mill building and its numerous air systems.The dry mechanical method of milling develops enormous quantities of airborne dust and fibre. A section of this paper is devoted to a description of the multiplicity of dust systems within a system to control, filter, and remove this dust.Finally, the paper describes the method of returning the filtered air to the• working floors or to the outside, with some notes on heat, humidity and dust counts.IntroductionGeneralTHE discussions in this paper deal only with operations where air movement is involved. The U. S. Bureau of Mines conducted an investigation to determine the cause of the deterioration of Portland cement during storage and transportation , and to discover a means of preventing it . All available printed sources of information on this subject have been examined and a bibliography has been compiled . The subject has also been discussed with the leaders in the cement industry ; the present report is the result of their cooperation , and is based principally on information thus obtained . Deterioration of Portland cement during storage over any considerable period of time has long been noted ; closely related to it is deterioration of cement during transportation, which involves not only the time factor of storage but also exposure to varied climatic conditions . Deterioration in both cases is due to hydration of the cement by absorption of moisture from a humid atmosphere , or by exposure to actual rain-fall . After hydration cement possesses no cohesive power ; the degree of deterioration is directly proportional to the degree of hydration . The amount of deterioration of Portland cement during storage has been accurately determined in an investigation by the Structural Materials Research Laboratory , in cooperation with the Portland Cement Association . Cement stored in a shed in cloth sacks retained 80 per cent of its original strength after three months storage ; 71 per cent after six months ; 61 per cent after one year ; and 40 per cent after two years . The deterioration of Portland cement during storage and transportation was noted particularly in France during the World War . Information concerning cement used by the American Expeditionary Forces was furnished by Lt. Col. H. S. Spackman and Major E. C. Eckel , U. S. R. , who had charge of practically all matters concerning cement used by the A. E. F. The cement used by the A. E. F. came from the following sources : 42,000 tons was French , Swiss , and Spanish cements ; 120,000 tons was English cement ; 55,000 tons made in plants operated by the A.E.F .; 500 tons ( Not over) from America . Deterioration was most marked in cement from the first source .

The Slocan mining camp in Kootenay district; British Columbia; has long been noted for the great number of its silver-bearing deposits; and for the success that has; in many instances; attended their development. The orebearing area lies east of Slocan lake and mainly within a radius of 6 to 8 miles of the mining town of Sandon. Within this limited area 135 or more properties have shipped ore in quantities of from 100 tons or less to more than 500; 000 tons; and with a total value in silver; lead; and zinc ranging from a few hundred dollars to well over $10; 000; 000. Of the three metals; silver has easily ranked first in value; with lead second and zinc third. Zinc production; however; made slow progress in the early years; and with . the exception of the Lucky Jim mine; and a few others where high-grade ore could be readily hand-sorted; was a detriment to the silver-lead ores until improved methods of separation enabled it to take an important place in the mineral production of the Slocan.
