"Gold ores containing oxide and some sulfide copper minerals incur significant cost penalties when leached with cyanide, because 4-5 moles of cyanide are consumed for each mole of leached copper. This equates to ~4 kg of NaCN per kg of leached copper. Total cost of excess NaCN consumption plus CN destruction can exceed $4.00 per tonne of ore. AuGMENT Technologies has patents pending on a process that can 1) economically recover 70-80% of the cyanide that is fed to a mill, 2) produce salable copper cathodes, and 3) reduce the need for a cyanide destruction facility. Standard equipment for resin processing and electrowinning are used to recover the cyanide and produce the copper cathodes. "Electrical disintegration (ED) has been well known as a good comminution method to improve liberation of compositional phases because it was reported that electron avalanche could occur preferentially at phase boundary. But the detailed mechanism of the ED has been still not known. This paper describes the results of ED experiments using synthetic binary sample, copper/resin, under the conditions of various distance between electrodes, and discusses the energy distribution in the three kinds of phenomena in the ED process, which are(1) streamer progression in water, (2) electron avalanche in water, and (3) electron avalanche in solid sample, by measuring current and voltage with elapsed time. Then, it has been found that the energy distribution in the phenomenon (1) is quite low and that the distribution in the phenomenon(2) had a considerably large compared with that in the(3), which indicates that the shockwave generated in water could contribute much to the sample breakage.INTRODUCTIONElectrical disintegration (ED) has been well known as a specific comminution technology which enhanced selective breakage at phase boundary and lead to a good liberation among compositional phases1-6),but the detailed mechanism has not been clarified yet. "Abstract In the Press-in Method, a static jacking force is used to install a prefabricated pile, while a reaction force is gained from previously installed piles. This piling technique has solved problems in urban piling construction such as noise and vibration associated with the piling work, restricted construction conditions due to the existing structures, and so on, since its emergence in 1975. Its applicability to hard ground conditions has been improved, with the development of press-in machines that involve augering or rotation. Besides, information such as time, penetration depth, jacking force and rotational (or augering) torque in piling work are automatically obtained. The concept of PPT, Pile Penetration Test, has been developed by the authors, to apply the obtained information to the processes of construction planning or foundation design. This paper highlights the technique to estimate SPT N value from data acquired in standard press-in (press-in without any auxiliary methods), press-in with augering and rotary press-in. The technique will be helpful in assuring the adequate embedment depth, re-selecting the adequate press-in machine or auxiliary method, and re-pricing the project objectively, particularly when a contractor encounters unexpected ground conditions.INTRODUCTIONThe Press-in Method is one of the piling techniques that use a static jacking load to install piles. It mitigates environmental problems of noise and vibration that have been associated with other conventional piling techniques.It is also featured by its spatial efficiency; since a ‘press-in’ piling machine gains a reaction force from the previously installed piles, there is no need of bulky weights that will occupy a large space. This feature is emphasized in the piling system in Figure 1, where a press-in machine and its related devices are all positioned and ‘walk’ on top of the pile wall.Its applicability to hard grounds has significantly been improved, with some newly developed piling machines that involve augering or that install tubular piles with teeth on the base by applying axial load and rotational torque at the same time."

On April 17, the John Fritz Medal, the award of which the presiding officer, Col. John J. Carty, characterized as "the highest honor which can be conferred on an engineer in America," was presented to. J. Waldo Smith "for his most distinguished services in civil engineering, and particularly in connection with the work on the great aqueduct, which has just been completed." Col. Carty spoke very briefly of the origin of the Medal and the method of awarding it, mentioning the names of the twelve men to whom it has been awarded in former years, and then introduced Mr. Nelson P. Lewis, Vice-president of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and for many years Chief Engineer of the Board of Estimate of the City of New York, who is an old colleague and fellow-engineer of Mr. Smith. Mr. Lewis said, in part: Mr. Smith is so well known that an extended review of his professional activities will be unnecessary, but a brief outline of the development of a conspicuously successful hydraulic engineer may not be out of place. It would be difficult to find a better instance of the success which is quite sure to result from persistent devotion to all phases of a particular line of engineering work. It began in his boyhood, when, as a lad of 15, he eagerly availed himself of such opportunities as were afforded to help in the construction of a waterworks system for his home town in New England. PROLOGUE The Yaguki mine, which is located near the southern end of the Tohoku region, Japan, near the coast of the Pacific Ocean, had had a long history as a copper mine, but had not been operated since 1925. About 30 years later it was reopened by Nittetsu Mining Company, and in 1958 a small flotation and magnetic separation plant, a so-called test plant, started production. The ball mill the author first met, a 8x4x4x7 ft tricone mill, called No.1 mill, had started running at that time. With his experience in initial, running of this mill he realized that the ball mill was not simply a preparatory process to flotation, but a determinant factor for flotation performance, an energy-consuming and costly process, and that its operation control was an important task in the plant (1). The working part of an operating ball mill is the ball load inside, whose properties govern the grinding performance. Its size distribution affects the efficiency greatly and the capacity is nearly proportional to its weight. When a ball mill operates for a long period of time with a constant and consistent addition of renewal balls, wear and renewal of balls are balanced, and an equilibrium ball load is formed. A stable equilibrium load is the primary requirement for a stable ball mill operation. However, renewal ball size would be the most influential factor affecting efficiency and capacity of operating ball mills. Sticking and breakage of iron ore pellets during high temperature reduction can result in several operational challenges during shaft furnace ironmaking. With the shift to H2-based DRI processes and decreasing iron ore quality, this issue becomes more prominent. It is therefore important to understand how the iron ore chemistry and mineralogy affects the sticking and breakage of pellets inside the shaft furnace. This study provides a review of the mechanisms that lead to sticking and breakage of pellets inside the shaft furnace. The sticking index of pellets is related to the rate of metallic iron production as well as the precipitation morphology of product iron. Sticking of pellets is also enhanced by the formation of low-melting slag phases. The breakage of pellets inside the shaft furnace is often associated with the mechanical load of burden and pellet swelling, which is caused due to iron whisker or protruded iron formation. This paper investigates how the composition of iron ore, particularly the presence of different impurity oxides such as SiO2, Al2O3, MgO, CaO and alkali oxides in the pellets, influences the sticking and swelling indices. The effect of ore mineralogy on these adverse behaviours is also discussed.

"THE SS640 AGRIGENTO-CALTANISSETTA PROJECT The Caltanissetta tunnel is part of the works for the construction of the second 28km-long maxi section of the SS 640 motorway of Porto Empedocle, from km 44 to the junction of Imera in Sicilian hinterland. Amongst other major infrastructure works, the €740 million ANAS (Italian national roads and highway administration agency) project consists of four twin tube tunnels three of which are being excavated by conventional means. The longest tunnel, underpasses the Caltanissetta city and has a length of 3.9km under a maximum overburden of 120m. The JV consisting of CMC of Ravenna and TECNIS SpA won the design & built tender in 2010. Construction started in early spring 2012 following the approval of detailed design and later on the approval of design for construction. THE CALTANISSETTA TUNNEL The Design Phase Tender design and detailed design foresaw the construction of 13.4m excavation diameter tunnels that were to be enlarged in a second phase to create, every 600m, 50m-long tunnel sections for emergency parking. During the design for construction project phase the JV proposed to replace the 13.4m tunnel with a 15.08 excavation diameter that incorporated apart from the two 3.75m wide lanes a 3.25m wide continuous emergency lane. This significant tunnel section modification was associated with better road safety conditions, simpler and safer construction procedures, better statics for the tunnel section while in terms of overall cost the solutions were equivalent.Geologic context The tunnel is located in the middle of the geologically known Caltanissetta basin that is intersected by various tectonic structures. The geologic context for the tunnel scale, was defined in collaboration with the University of Catania in early project phases. For almost its entire length the tunnel is excavated in the Terravecchia formation that represents the lower part of the stratigraphic sequence that was formed in the Tortoniano period of Miocene. The quite complex geological model is also characterized by the presence of the so-called Trubi formation that consists of clay and marl clay. Almost 90% of the tunnel traverses formations that are quite similar in terms of excavation behavior. Exception to this are thrust zones and a calcareous stretch of the alignment. This last segment has a length of 200m and was identified since the very beginning as a tunneling challenge due to the combination of very poor geotechnical properties and an important water load."

"Different methods aiming at specific energy calculation and design of AG/SAG circuits are used in mining. They include JK DWT/SMC test, SAGDesign test and CWi/RWi/BWi tests. The simplest methods with no secret equations and giving energy required for grinding in kWh/t were proposed by F.?. Bond and J.H. Starkey. D.J. Barratt proposed to use results of CWi/RWi/BWi tests for AG/SAG mill sizing. The present paper gives an alternative for forecast of specific AG/SAG energy. The principle is similar to the theory proposed earlier and consists in cumulative AG/SAG energy calculation using indices of rod and ball grinding (RWi+BWi) without impact crushing index (CWi). Then total energy is divided between two grinding stages using special formulas based on extensive statistical information. The forecast indices of AG/SAG and ball grinding are similar to the SAGDesign testing results. Hereinafter the predicted indices are used for mill sizing of the whole grinding circuit. The method considered in the paper enables prediction of AG/SAG energy based on the test results according to Bond method. The proposed method version was not widely published earlier. The aim of the work was to elaborate cost-effective, reliable and accessible way to determine specific AG/SAG energy. At this stage of method development, it is recommended to use it only for works at preliminary Geometallurgy stage (Scoping, Pre-Feasibility). At design stage the obtained data should be confirmed by appropriate testing using alternative JK DWT/SMC and SAGDesign methods.INTRODUCTIONAppropriate crushing and grinding testing is required to design efficient comminution circuits. It is obviously important to obtain accurate information about ore hardness properties since the main energy consumption at the plant is associated with comminution processes. Moreover, it is required to apply the processes that make it possible to minimize operating costs and efficiently use capacity of the installed equipment installed.When studying ore hardness properties, it is required to take into account that breakage of the material is performed using different equipment. That is why accurate selection of the equipment and the circuit calculation without relevant testworks is impossible. Ideally, the testworks should provide answers to the following questions: determination of ore hardness properties, determination of specific energy consumption for comminution as well as obtaining of sufficient amount of statistically significant results from the tests. The results from crushability and grindability testworks in the first place provide assessment of ore hardness properties and in addition correlate with throughput of the respective equipment. The data obtained can be used for modeling of comminution circuits at the stage of the technology development"

"Wet low intensity magnetic separation has been used for the recovery of magnetite for decades. As high-grade reserves continue to decline, low grade magnetite ores are being targeted for iron production. Low grade magnetite mineralisation is typically fine grained and requires fine to ultrafine grinding (P80 40 - 30 µm) to liberate it from, predominantly, silica/silicate gangue matrices. Grinding to such particle sizes requires high power consumption and produces excessive fines which impact negatively on wet magnetic separation and tailings dewatering. In addition, the dearth of fresh water for mineral processing in arid areas impacts negatively on the economic viability of low grade magnetite projects. These challenges have motivated innovation in dry magnetic separation technologies for the beneficiation of magnetite that can be economically applied on a large-scale. Such technology has been developed in the Cyclomag Planar magnetic separator (PMS) invented by South Australia-based Christopher Kelsey of IMPTEC P/L. The significant gangue mineralisation associated with magnetite ores in South Australia is quartz. In this study, the performance of the Cyclomag PMS on the recovery of magnetite mineral from magnetite-quartz blends was investigated. Magnetite-quartz blend were subjected to the PMS at varying control parameters - magnet discs rotation speed, inlet airflow and feeder speed. The study showed a successful dry separation of magnetic mineral from non-magnetics using the Cyclomag PMS. The PMS has potential to effectively recover magnetite mineral."

The challenges of nature for the recovery of metals for a sustainable future continue to present in diverse ways. Base metal deposits are becoming lower grade and more complex. Rare earth metal demand is soaring and must certainly be met from new sources outside of China. Precious metals have soared in value due to increased industrial usage and the importance of these metals as financial instruments. Many of the future sources of precious metals are complex and difficult to process. The field of hydrometallurgy plays an important role in providing technology for extraction of these metals for a sustainable future. Selected examples from the base, rare and precious metals fields will be used to illustrate how current developments are providing metals for our future. The recovery of rare earths by beneficiation, leaching, purification, precipitation will be described from a multi-mineral deposit in Canada. The recovery of metals from complex base and precious metal ores may be accomplished using chloride ? assisted high temperature pressure leaching. Finally, by way of example, the enhanced Galvanox? process for treatment of chalcopyrite concentrates using silver-activated pyrite as a catalyst will be illustrated. This process offers a viable alternative to the conventional smelting of chalcopyrite copper concentrates.

ENGINEERS as a group are often criticized because they have been responsible for the development of many technical improvements only to allow the administration of them to pass into the hands of others who may have little understanding of how they operate and little competence in their use. These criticisms are not always justified. There are many engineers who have shown themselves to be great administrators in addition to being great creators or builders, and more and more one sees the engineer demonstrating unusual administrative ability as he moves into the executive ranks. The last five or ten years have seen a new movement developing in this country-a movement brought about through the recognition by business statesmen that successful business administrators and executives just cannot be expected to develop like Topsy, that the management of a company must deliberately take steps to cultivate the proper climate or environment for growth if it wishes to provide an adequate and capable succession of executives in the future. This movement has taken on a number of names-Management Development, Executive Development, Personnel Development-but are these not actually misnomers? Can we develop anybody? In the strictest sense of the word, the author doubts that anyone can change any other person, at least, not much. The change must come from within. Perhaps this movement should be looked at not as a program of developing people but as one of giving people an opportunity to develop themselves. In the Humble Oil & Refining Co. there is an Executive Development Program; maybe it might better be called a Program of Development for Executives.

It has long been known that minute quantities of foreign substances, when alloyed with steel, are capable of materially altering its physical properties. Thus, half a century ago, Faraday and Stodart, in England, discovered in the famous Indian steel, known as " wootz," small quantities of aluminum, from 0.0728 to 0.693 per cent., and attributed its extraordinarily good quality to the presence of such minute quantities of that metal. Since aluminum is now produced by electrolytic means on a large scale and at low cost, its addition to cast-steel has been frequently recommended of late. Chromium was alloyed with steel fifty years ago by the celebrated French metallurgist, Berthier, of Paris, and has recently been successfully applied to the same purpose by Holtzer, of Terre-Noire. In 1860 titanium was alloyed with crucible steel by Robert Mushet, of Coleford, the alloy containing up to 0.50 per cent. of titanium, which was extracted from Norwegian ilmenite. The titanium-steel was much vaunted by him for its excellent qualities. Rhodium, a very rare metal of the platinum series, was maintained by Berthier to improve steel materially in strength and hardness. Manganese has always been held by Sheffield steel-melters to provide steel with excellent qualities, and this influence was quite recently investigated by H. M. Howe and L. Campredon. Nickel was tried as an addition by Berthier, not to speak of gold, silver and platinum ; and nickel-steel has recently been brought into prominence by J. Riley and others, who recommend it for its great strength and toughness, particularly as material for armor-plates.

The future of any mining company depends on maintaining and growing its access to high-quality mineral resources. Often the true size of a given resource is not fully recognised until after mining has commenced. Also, the strong desire to increase production puts pressure to expand the resource base of the mine to get maximum value out of the capital employed. This, plus diminishing M&A opportunities and declining world-class greenfield discovery rates, makes brownfields exploration a high priority activity in any operating company. For the success and long-term survival of the company it is critical that this is done well. The primary aim of brownfields exploration is to find or acquire new deposits within economic transport distance of an existing mine that will add materially to shareholder value through: mine or capacity expansion, displacement of lower-margin ore from the mine plan, preserving and extending the mine life, and ensuring potential value is understood in order to maximise potential future mine development or exit. A number of strategic principles are important in any program designed to achieve these aims: understanding the life of mine (LOM) production profile and the related key drivers for exploration, understanding the dynamic nature of the brownfields search space, understanding and measuring depletion of the brownfields search space, understanding the potential of the near-mine region, investing in exploration technology to expand the search space, and investing in a basic geological understanding of the ore-environment. Examination of the LOM profile will highlight critical issues facing development plans for the mine including future grade and throughput issues, key technology requirements or innovations and scenarios for increased production. Exploration targets in the brownfields program should address these key issues. Often it is as æsimpleÆ as keeping mine development sufficiently far ahead of extraction to allow time for the various phases of exploration and resource assessment drilling. Because of the low additional capital costs required, expansion of the brownfields search space is strongly leveraged to: metal prices, development of new markets, incremental operating cost reductions, strategic changes in downstream requirements in integrated businesses, depletion of higher unit-value ores, and new technologies (both extraction and exploration). Therefore the brownfields search space is likely to incrementally expand through time and must be regularly reviewed. This is also important as any given search space will be progressively exhausted, resulting in smaller and higher cost discoveries. It is therefore important to monitor and critically review sustained trends of increasing brownfields discovery cost. The first wave of discoveries in any camp are usually empirically driven and do not need a strong geological understanding. However, an improved geological understanding is critical to making the next generation of hidden discoveries. To illustrate these points, a case study was carried out on the exploration and development history of the Kambalda nickel camp. Over a period of 40 years, more than 40 deposits were found containing over 1.7 million tonnes of nickel metal. Efficient mines need to maintain reserves for operating flexibility. Consequently, the company needs to clearly understand the global resource in order to maximise its full potential. In addition, understanding the full brownfields potential earlier in the development of a deposit rather than later, creates optionality through the flexibility that this understanding brings to future development choices. To ensure best practice in attaining this aim, the roles and responsibilities of the exploration team and the mine operation should be clearly understood. It is important for the explorers and the operators to have shared views about what needs to be done. Typically, mine operators would be accountable for identifying future resource requirements to support the life-of-mine production schedule whilst explorers would be accountable to ensure best-practice assessment of brownfields exploration opportunities. This would include an assessment of the global undiscovered endowment in the regional near-mine area. The balance between brownfield exploration drilling and resources to reserve conversion will need to be decided to ensure efficient operations are maintained. Both need to agree the optimum level of brownfields funding taking into account: urgency to replace or grow reserves, and quality of opportunities (relative to those elsewhere). The ultimate cost of ignoring the full brownfields potential of an operating asset can be significant, ranging from inefficient and poorly planned operations, lost opportunity cost and resultant value through under-utilised resources and, in the worst case, early exit from the asset at the bottom of the commodity cycle û leaving behind huge amounts of shareholder value.

Pyrite cinder is generated by roasting pyrite for sulfur dioxide production. It contains up to 62% iron, but also may contain other hazardous or toxic materials such as Zn, Pb, As, T1, Cd, Cu, Sn and S. Furthermore, the physical characteristics are not properly suited for conventional sintering. As a result pyrite cinder is considered to be unsuitable for iron and steelmaking or for outside storage because of its potential for causing environmental problems. In recent years industrialized nations have put increasing pressure on the manufacturers to either use such waste products or properly dispose of them. In this study, solutions to both the iron recovery and disposal problem were attempted by pelletizing the pyrite fines with internal carbon. The pellets, after hydrothermal hardening, were reduced and melted in a furnace for hot metal production. Hot metal of usuable quality was produced and the hazardous materials were either collected with the fumes or in the slag.

THE increased use of heat-resistant alloys (26 per cent Cr, 12 per cent Ni, 16 per cent Cr, 35 per cent Ni, 12 per cent Cr, 60 per cent Ni, etc ) in recent years has been accompanied by continued demands by the consumer for improvement in properties The manufacturers of these materials, of necessity, have resorted to more critical studies of the basic causes of variations in fundamental properties To keep pace with the need for augmented information, previous techniques of investigation have been refined and new test methods and instruments created It is the purpose of this paper to describe the apparatus, experimental technique and precision of measurement that were employed in the exploration of properties of heat-resistant alloy presented in a companion paper† The detailed precautions in experimental procedure essential for attainment of accurate and comparable data at elevated temperatures cannot be too highly emphasized THE CREEP TEST Since the fundamental concepts of creep testing have been recognized for the past 20 years, present interest is restricted to refinements in equipment and experimental procedure The creep-test laboratory constructed for the American Brake Shoe and Foundry Co is designed to permit 1000-hr tests in the temperature range of 1200° to 2200°F with a choice of applied stress extending from 50 to 50,000 lb per sq in in increments of 50 lb per sq in To simplify the calculation of weight combinations, the loading beams (Fig I) are provided with counterweights to eliminate the tare The precision of the knife-edges (10 1 ratio) is such that a 10-gram weight placed on the upper specimen grip will be exactly balanced by a 1-gram weight attached to the loading shackle Check of the loading weights proved the maximum error to be 0 06 per cent Axial alignment is provided by crossed knife-edges in the grip seats The furnaces are similar in design to those of Crane and Company, Battelle Memorial Institute, and the U S Steel Corporation An 80 per cent Pt, 20 per cent Rh No 19 B and S gauge wire is used as the heating element The details of construction are shown in the radiograph reproduced in Fig 2 The windings are held in place on an alundum tube with alundum cement, the distribution of turns is adjusted to give a maximum temperature gradient of ± 1°F over a 4-in gauge length (Fig 3) To avoid sharp temperature differentials at the ends of the test section, the length of the furnace is four times the gauge length Sixteen-inch coupons are used to reduce the temperature of the threaded

"South Africa possess the biggest fluorspar reserves in the world followed closely by China. In light of the current commodity downturn this paper explores the use of Dense Media Separation (DMS) as a coarse pre-concentration method for two fluorspar deposits located in South Africa in which the dominant gangue is carbonate present in the form of dolomite and calcite. Heavy Liquid Separation indicated that conventional pre-concentration of the drill core samples from both deposits would result in unacceptably high fluorite CaF2 losses. At a maximum CaF2 loss to floats of 5% the benefit of DMS would be economically marginal and difficult to justify as a conventional pre-concentrator. In light of cashflow constraints, a twin flowsheet was proposed for the sole purposes of upfront cash generation in which the majority (67-77%) of the CaF2 would report to a high grade flotation plant in 38-41% of the mass whilst the rejects would be stockpiled for flotation at a later stage. Considering the proposed twin flowsheet approach the high grade product split was achieved using DMS and this paper documents the challenges encountered and results achieved. INTRODUCTION Fluorspar is the commercial term for the mineral fluorite (calcium fluoride, CaF2). Worldwide production of fluorspar is dominated by four countries namely China, Mexico, Mongolia and South Africa. Although South Africa is the fourth largest producer, it has the largest fluorspar reserves closely followed by China (U.S. Geological Survey, 2017a). Fluorspar is broadly categorized into two grades namely acid grade also referred to as acidspar (>97% CaF2); and sub-acid grade (ceramic and metallurgical grade) commonly referred to as metspar (=97% CaF2). Acid grade fluorspar is used for the production of hydrofluoric acid (HF) which in turn is used for the manufacture of fluorocarbons and semi-conductors in the electronics industry; metal processing; the production of insecticides, herbicides and cleaning detergents, and the manufacture of uranium tetrafluoride used to concentrate the uranium isotope 235 for use as a nuclear fuel (British Geological Survey 2010; Miller 2001). Ceramic grade fluorspar (85-95% CaF2) is used in the ceramic industry as a flux and opacifier in the production of glass and enamels. Ceramic grade fluorspar is also used to make coatings for welding rods and as a flux in the steel industry. Metallurgical grade fluorspar (60-85% CaF2) is primarily used in the steel industry as flux to reduce the melting temperature and remove impurities in steel making. Similarly metallurgical grade fluorspar is also used as flux in cement production to reduce energy consumption (British Geological Survey 2010; Miller 2001)."

In 1962 a computerized data processing system was first installed and programmed for the grading of direct-shipping iron ore from the Sept-Iles terminal of the Iron Ore Company of Canada. Over the years several changes and improvements have been incorporated into this system. It is the purpose of this paper to describe its present operation and features. Sept-Iles is located on the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, 500 miles north east of Montreal. The direct-shipping ore is received by railroad from Schefferville, 320 miles to the north in the Knob Lake Iron Range of New Quebec and Labrador. The shipping season extends from mid-March to December. The maximum tonnage handled in this period being 13,045,000 long tons in 1959. Crude ore receipts for 1974 amounted to 6,568,000 tons of direct-shipping and 4,700,000 tons of plant feed material from Schefferville. This was augmented by 4,447,000 tons of concentrate and 7,572,000 tons of pellets from Labrador City 200 miles north of Sept-Iles. The direct-shipping ore has come from as many as ten mines, and grade variations, even-within the same mines, have been sufficient to require blending for uniform, acceptable cargos. Shipments of low phosphorous, non bessemer and manganiforous iron ore are made, to Canada, the United States, Europe and Japan with grade variations to meet customers requirements.

"Globally, the use of metallic coated steel sheets in the automobile industry is increasing. The sheet should have excellent formability, weldability, paintability and corrosion resistance. Since bare cold rolled steel sheets have certain limitations, application of galvanized steel sheets is steadily expending. Galvannealed steel sheet fulfills all requirements and has become of major interest in the automobile industry.The success of Galvannealed (GA) steels in the body-in-white depends upon material design and parameters of various processes involved, like cold rolling, continuous annealing, hot dipping and galvannealing. In the present work, powdering resistance, one of the important product characteristics of GA, has been studied and a relation is established between the process parameters and the powdering value. The product obtained through optimization of the process parameters have been successfully used by major automotive producers without any powdering problem, for internal as well as external automotive applications.IntroductionThe present automotive industry demands that steel for the auto components should have excellent formability, weldability, paintability, corrosion resistance etc. In addition to this there is specific requirement for some particular components like high surface quality for skin panels. Corrosion resistance of panels is important requirment which determines the life of the particular component and brand value of the automotive. Among all the zinc based steel coating used in the automotive industry coating produced by Galvannealing process has received most attention because of its excellent weldability along with superior corrosion resistance and better paintability."
