Ore-hosting breccias occur in a wide variety of environ-ments, shapes, compositions and characteristics, but generally present favorable loci for the deposition of ore mineralization in epithermal, porphyry copper-gold-molybdenum, massive sulfide, carbonate-hosted, sedimentary lead-zinc deposits and others.

We studied theeffect of anode substrates such as pure lead (Pb), lead antimony (Pb-Sb), and lead-silver (Pb-Ag) on the structural and electrochemical properties of electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD). X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and chemical analyses were used to determine the structural and chemical characteristics of the EMD samples. The charge-discharge profile was studied in 9 M KOH using a galvanostatic charge-discharge unit. In all the substrates the current efficiencies were more than 99% except with Pb-Sb where it was 90%. Results revealed the nature of the substrate strongly affected the morphology of the deposited material which in turn affected the electrochemical properties of the EMD samples. XRD analyses revealed that the nature of the anode did not affect the crystal structure of the deposited EMD and all the samples were predominantly ?-MnO2, which is electrochemically active for energy storage applications. The EMD deposited on lead substrate showed superior discharge capacity of 245 mAhg-1 when compared with other substrates.

The federal standard for limiting exposures to miners from radon daughters was reduced from 12 working level months (WLM) per year to 4 WLM per year in 1971. However, even at that time some researchers were concerned that the new limit would eventually be shown to result in an excess risk for lung cancer mortality in miners. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is now engaged in a comprehensive review of this topic. As the lead agency in this project, NIOSH has developed a work plan and established a work group to implement this plan. The procedure and specific considerations are outlined in the work plan for developing a comprehensive ionizing radiation standard recommendation for all miners, underground and surface. Such a recommendation will not only include estimates of health risks at various levels of exposure, but also appropriate recommendations for medical monitoring, sampling and analytical methods, sampling strategies, posting, engineering controls, personal protective equipment and recordkeeping. The work group has twenty-four members. Eleven members are NIOSH personnel representing six divisions of the Institute. The remaining thirteen members represent other federal agencies, specifically the Bureau of Mines of the Department of the Interior, the Mine Safety and Health Administration and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration of the Department of Labor, the Office of Radiation Protection of the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Bureau of Radiological Health of the Food and Drug Administration, Department of Health and Human Services. Several factors contributed to the decision to initiate this project. First, the efficacy of the current standard was considered. An initial study group was formed in the spring of 1980 by NIOSH to identify and evaluate articles that contained information on lung cancer mortality risks at and below the present permissible exposure limit. The conclusion drawn from their evaluation was that a two-fold excess risk of lung cancer mortality at and below 120 cumulative working level months (CWLM) of exposure to radon daughters is evident. This composite indication from selected studies was of sufficient magnitude to justify further evaluation. The study group, however, recognized that other studies and information must also be considered in a quantitative risk assessment which would form the basis for recommending an acceptable and feasible permissible exposure limit. A second factor in the decision to pursue further evaluation was the gaps in the current standard that had previously been identified by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). These included lack of medical monitoring of underground miners and absence of regulations for surface miners. The seriousness of the health hazard relative to other hazards in mining was also considered. Along with exposures to silica and asbestos fibers, radiation was judged to be one of the major health hazards in mining, These combined factors constituted the justification to develop criteria and recommendations for improved mandatory health standards. The development process begins with a survey and review of the available world-wide information on the topic, including data and information developed by NIOSH. The end product of this review is to be a document that will contain an evaluation of the collected information and support for any recommendations that are made. To develop this document, the present work group has been divided into five task groups with the following emphases: Health Effects, Medical Aspects, Monitoring, Environmental Exposures, and Engineering Controls and Work Practices. The Health Effects task group is to evaluate the evidence from epidemiologic and animal studies of adverse health effects associated with all forms of ionizing radiation encountered in mining and milling operations. The "weight-of-evidence" of the results of all relevant and useful studies will be summarized, with the reasons for emphasizing the cited studies. The critical cells or tissues and the factors that should be considered in estimating the dose to these areas from various types of radiation will be identified. An evaluation will be made of the possible impacts of smoking and exposure to diesel exhaust on the determination of health effects related to radiation. The implications of biologically redundant dose in terms of the time between tumor initiation and death will also be analyzed. The Medical Aspects task group is to review the generally-accepted and the state-of-the-art medical technology for the detection of adverse health effects from ionizing radiation exposure. An evaluation will be made of the accuracy of urine and fecal analysis, wholebody counting, chromosome analysis and nose blows, as well as their usefulness for early detection of adverse health effects. Early detection is of little utility to the affected individual unless subsequent medical care can improve the prognosis. Recommendations for screening tests will be made after carefully considering the accuracy of the diagnostic procedures and the usefulness of early detection. Required recordkeeping and transfer rights will also be addressed. The Monitoring task group is to consider the state-of-the-art technology for the monitoring of occupational radiation exposures. Instrumentation, sampling strategies and analytical procedures will be reviewed for both personal and area sampling. The implications of the associated levels of confidence for non-compliance decisions will be evaluated. The discussion will also include an evaluation of the feasibility of replacing present monitoring systems with recent technology and the impact that a possible lower permissible exposure limit would have on monitoring requirements. The Environmental Exposure task group is to investigate the field procedures and mathematical methodologies which have been used to quantitate exposure levels to the various kinds of ionizing radiation. The magnitude and direction of the possible biases in past exposure assessments will be estimated. Specific attention will be given to the controversies concerning the quantification of the biological dose equivalent and the feasibility of recommending standards for mixed radiation exposures which use "rem" as the unit of measurement. "Portions of the Catholic Total Abstinence Fountain in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, Pa., were in “imminent danger,” according to a restoration services request for proposals (RFP) issued by the City of Philadelphia in August 2014. Open voids in the subsurface beneath the foundation were causing ongoing settlement of the fountain.The fountain was unveiled in 1876 as an ornamental drinking fountain for the Centennial International Exhibition, which celebrated the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Its creation was commissioned by the Catholic Total Abstinence Union of America, an Irish temperance organization that advocated for total abstinence from alcohol. Ironically, the fountain ran dry decades ago.The now-defunct fountain features a 100 ft (30.5 m) wide granite base with three steps in the shape of a Maltese cross. The centerpiece — enclosed by a 40 ft (12.2 m) diameter basin — is a 15 ft (4.6 m) tall statue of Moses perched atop an iglooshaped marble mound. Four subsidiary statues rise from granite pedestals at the tips of each arm of the cross, including Archbishop John Carroll, Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Father Theobald Mathew and Commodore John Barry.Natural and Man-Made DamageThe City of Philadelphia’s RFP called attention to three “high priority structural areas.” It was noted that Moses, Father Mathew and the steps surrounding the fountain had been documented as public hazards. The long-term effects of water infiltration had set in, eroding mortar joints and causing some stones to jut out. Furthermore, the stone base supporting the 16 ton (14.5 tonne) statue of Moses was in danger of collapsing. The statue of Father Mathew had been struck by lightning in 1910 and was repaired with an iron and metal pin anchor system, which had succumbed to corrosion. The city considered the statue of Father Mathew as the most threatened of the statues. Mike Miluski, P.E., vice president of Compaction Grouting Services (CGS), recalled “the fountain was in pretty bad shape” as he walked onto the site in August 2016 and immediately recognized the challenges ahead."

"Ores enriched in critical rare earth elements (CREE) keep on being of particular interest. The CREE are Nd, Eu, Tb, Dy, including Y. In conjunction with beneficiation tests on Y-mineral bearing flotation tailings of complicated mineralogy, the Mineral Liberation Analyses (MLA) was used to work out processing characteristics fraction-wise in terms of modal mineralogy, mineral recovery, locking and liberation, and particle size.Size fractions from mechanical sieving (“real fractions”) as well as fractions created virtually by using filters on the MLA-data of the unsieved head material (“virtual fractions”) were investigated comparatively thereby. The ""virtual-sizing-approach"" features a much simpler sample preparation procedure and considerably lower cost if a fraction-wise investigation of a head sample is needed. It can be conveniently applied to intimately locked ores needing a fine grinding to a particle size distribution (PSD) range below 25 microns for instance. However, its practical use is sometimes disputed in terms of the reliability of the results. Results are shown for the main Y-bearing mineral xenotime and selected main gangue minerals of a low grade REE-ore.The influence of sample representativeness, sample preparation and particle counting statistics turned out to be of crucial importance. Given that all preconditions for reliable results are met, locking characteristics, modal mineralogy, and even PSD trends can be read from virtual fractions.The authors encourage processing engineers to use the virtual approach. They propose practical measures to improve the reliability of the MLA results, identify and tackle conflicting results, and mitigate evaluation problems that may arise."

United States Steel's Cumberland Coal Operations is located in Greene County in the southwest corner of Pennsylvania. The mine and related facilities have been in operation since September of 1977. Production from this mine, U. S. Steel's first commercial coal mining venture, will eventually reach a level of 2.72 million mt of clean coal per year and is totally committed to electric power generation. Cumberland is a slope mine in the Pittsburgh seam and is mined by continuous mining machines and longwall. The coal from the mine is trans- ported by belt to the surface, taken through a rotary breaker for initial preparation, and stored in raw coal silos. It is then processed through the preparation plant and taken to a clean coal silo where it is held for train loading. Cumberland Mine operates its am 28.16 km railroad to transport the coal to the Monongahela River. The unit train consists of thirty-one 90 mt cars. The coal, once loaded on barges, is then shipped to the customer. Cumberland Mine is one of the most modern coal preparation and unit train loading systems in the nation. The preparation plant is de- signed to receive coal from the silos at a rate of 720 at per hour. The +6.35 mm material is screened out and cleaned in a Daniels heavy media vessel with two 3.35 m weirs. Minus 6.35 mm material is fed to sixteen #88 Deister concentrating tables. The cleaned coal from this circuit is dewatered, and all effluents from the mechanical dewatering report to the classifying Cyclone sump for classification through ten 35.6 cm cyclones. The cyclones overflow material (-150 mesh) is processed through two banks of three 8.5 m3 Denver D.R. flotation machines. The cyclone underflow pro- duct (28-1 0 mesh) is processed in two banks of 5 six 2.83 m Denver Sub A machines. The clean flotation product is then dewatered in Bird screen bowl centrifuges, blended with the other clean coal size fractions, and the total plant product further dewatered in a thermal dryer.

"The increased costs of exploration and drilling of new oil fields and the continued success of water flooding in nearly depleted oil fields have created a demand for information on the results obtained from individual projects. The Bureau of Mines has published several reports concerning water-flood activity in the Midcontinent area and at the request of the industry has continued to collect and disseminate this information. This report was written in response to these requests. It describes in detail the water-flooding projects in Anderson, Franklin, Linn, and Miami Counties, Kans., and includes methods of water treating and the results obtained. The production histories of each county and many water-flood projects are shown graphically from the date of the first development. Maps of most of the major projects, showing their status as of January 1, 1953 are presented also.The practice of injecting water to stimulate oil production was legalized in Kansas in 1935, and the first water-flooding project authorized in this four-county area was initiated by the Texas Co. in December 1935 in Linn County. Forty-nine projects2/ initiated in the area to January 1953 are estimated to have recovered approximately 10 million barrels of oil that would not have been produced by methods used previously. About 7,900 productive acres had been, or are, flooded by these projects, and approximately 136 million barrels of water had been injected.These four counties in the eastern Kansas shallow production area3/ were an important factor in the early history of the Kansas oil and gas industry. This position has been maintained from the very beginning through the early period of vacuum and air injection and into the era of water flooding. The location of the area and the relative position of the four counties and water-flooding areas in each are shown in figure 1.The first drilling for oil in this area in 1860 resulted from investigations of the existence, and use by the Indians, of so-called tar or oil springs. The first wells drilled were nonproductive, and the impending Civil War caused the search for oil to be discontinued. In 1884 a few shallow oil wells were drilled near Paola, and completion of several gas wells near that city led to subsequent drilling of an oil well, which was completed in June 1885, having an initial flow of 10 barrels of oil daily.In 1904 the original Paola gas field became a good oil-producing field. In 1905 the Rantoul field in Franklin and Miami Counties was opened; and drilling activity spread throughout the adjoining area, resulting in development of several shallow oil pools in Linn and Anderson Counties. The first ""shoestring"" pool in eastern Kansas to produce oil was probably the Paola or Pressonville shoestring, which was discovered in 1917. The rate of oil production from the area declined until 1919, when the Centerville shoestring pool was discovered. Discovery of the Colony gas field in 1921 was followed within a few months by drilling of the Garnett and Garnett and bush City shoestring pools. The Schermerhorn pool (now part of the Centerville field) s discovered in 1927, and the Kincaid shoestring pool was first drilled in 1931. The oil-production histories of the individual counties are discussed separately."

The unique chemical and physical properties that can be displayed by polypropylene and its copolymer derivatives are enabling its development as a truly versatile material for water filtration. Well known applications include spiral wound cartridge filters commonly used for household water or the office drinking fountain, to pressure membranes that provide micro, ultra or nano size filtration barriers, whilst needle-felt or woven cloth filter belts or inline pressure bag cloths are well known to the hydro metallurgist and process engineer. A relatively new filtration concept that is generating interest and applications across all industries including the mining sector involves use of a unique fabric type filtering media made from polypropylene fibres. This technology not only has a vastly wider window for potential applications, it delivers an attractive cost saving alternative to the traditional sand media or diatomaceous earth type filters, along with potential benefits for integrated filtration units. This paper discusses the proven potential of the fabric media technology with examples of performance comparisons and confidence gained from full scale operating installations at mine sites and other locations.

Risk management is concerned with the whole spectrum of financial, geological, engineering, legal, governmental, social and occasionally ethnic issues, concerned with mining projects. The inherent risks in mining operations are well publicised, but new issues and hazards arrive on the scene and lake precedence, but the older risks still remain, while insurance cover may not he ‘full cover’ in the future. It has long been recognised that quantitative approaches to risk analysis can play a major role, but although these methods are capable of considerable theoretical precision, the lack of sound risk input data and experienced personnel limits the usefulness of theoretical analysis. It can, however, greatly assist in comparing cases, in identifying areas of risk and help in the investment decision process. Its major contribution to a mining project is that it imposes an investigative discipline that also assists in improving the quantitative approach to risk analysis and hence risk management. Risk analysis and risk management also requires sound common sense and major inputs from experienced geologists, mining, mechanical, electrical and mineral processing engineers. The Engineering Council, in 1992, issued a ten point code of professional practice entitled ‘Engineers and Risk Issues’ (The Engineering Council. 1992), covering our professional responsibilities, the law, our conduct, the need for a systematic approach to risk issues, the use of professional judgement, communications, risk management, evaluation of risk, our professional development in this field and the encouragement of public awareness of risk issues. This is a specific area of training perhaps long neglected by our industry and academic institutions (Atkinson. 1983).

"To minimize ore dilution induced by blast movement in surface mines, it is necessary to quantify such movement. This will enable more accurate location of the grade boundaries beneath the surface of a blasted rock pile before excavation. A method has been developed and tested to accurately measure the direction and magnitude of subsurface blast movement. This technique uses a cesium vapour gradiometer and a real-time, differentially corrected GPS system to locate pre- and post-blast position of magnetically enhanced target objects placed within blastholes inside a bench. The procedure developed does not require the blasted rock to be disturbed, and the movement information is available within a sufficient time to allow for modification of the selective mining boundaries for each surveyed blast. It was found that the maximum depth of target detection was 18 m, with the overall accuracy being measured as ±1 m (horizontally) and ± 1.2 m (vertically). IntroductionOre dilution is a critical concern for many mining operations. In some instances, it may be the cause of considerable mineral loss. Where the mineralization is finely grained, sedimentary and disseminated in nature, and exhibits no clearly defined visual ore/waste boundary, there is a heightened possibility for ore grade dilution. In most modern open pit gold mines, it is economically desirable to minimize dilution in the production process through the practice of selective mining by defining pre-blast ore digging boundaries, called digging polygons, on the preblast bench area. The polygons’ positions are defined by sampling the production drill holes, with the resultant assay and survey data being used to estimate the areas of specified grade content within the bench. Once the ore is blasted in the bench, the pre-blast locations of these digging polygons are flagged as designated areas on the broken ore pile. The purpose is for the loader operator to be able to recognize which areas of blasted rock are to be sent to the appropriate processing facility or to the waste dump."

For the study of overburden movement in longwall mining of shallow coal seams, most scholars merely consider the thickness of bedrock and top soils. In this paper, the overburden movement in longwall mining of shallow coal seams with thin top soils and key strata group was studied. By using numerical simulation, the development of fractures in the overburden was analyzed for different ratios of panel width to depth (W/D) and depth to mining height. The results show that the overburden movement changed with the variation of mining height, panel width and depth under the specific geological conditions. It also explain how different overburden disturbance structures, such as ?three zones? (caved, fractured, and continuous deformation zones), ?two zones?(caved and fractured zones) or ?steps-like collapse? are formed under different mining conditions. The results broaden the vision for research on overburden movement in longwall mining of shallow coal seams.

"Several studies have been carried out to determine how the optimum atmosphere conditions in the heat treatment of metals can be established for a given product by using different gas injectors and varying atmosphere flow rate and composition. The most common approach taken to gain insight into furnace atmospheres has been to use commercial computational fluid dynamics codes and examples of their use are shown. However, the complexity of these codes, the difficulty in establishing boundary conditions, their cost and computational demands limit their usability in solving day-to-day production problems.A simplified, web-based model of a furnace atmosphere is described where the conservation equations are solved to determine the composition profiles of the atmosphere in the furnace. Although the model is restricted in scope to certain types of furnace, it is shown to give better results than CFD when boundary conditions are uncertain. The application of the model to the understanding of existing furnace conditions and to determining ways of optimising the use of gases are discussed. IntroductionThe important role of protective atmospheres during heat treatment of metals, furnace brazing of assemblies and soldering of printed circuit boards is well established. The atmosphere in the furnace prevents air ingress and oxidation of the parts, helps flush away any flux or binder from braze and solder pastes and provides an important mode of heat transfer [1]. In a batch furnace having typically one or two gas injectors, the gas utilisation and process can be optimised by minimising air leaks and mantaining atmosphere homogeneity with fans or other atmosphere circulation techniques. In a continuous furnace, however, atmosphere optimisation is more difficult as furnace inlets and exits can also let in air. The atmosphere requirements of different stages of heat treatment, brazing or soldering vary [2]. Achieving these atmospheres in different sections of the open-ended furnace is a relatively complex task. Methods such as atmosphere zoning and the use of physical curtains and gas injectors have evolved with time, though it is hard to predict how effective these techniques will be for a given furnace and process. Experts in the field tend to rely on experience and rules-of-thumb rather than scientific method to achieve the required results."

"Silicosis was first reported by the ancient Greeks and is apparently as old as human history. The prevalence of this illness peaked in the last half of the 19th century and the early part of this century, when mechanized industry was developing and the relationship between dust exposure and disease was less well understood. Yet, even today in devel-oped countries, sporadic outbreaks of silicosis occur when workers are consistently exposed to silica particles of respir-able size (0.5 to 5.0 µm in diameter) at levels exceeding those recognized to be safe.Silicon dioxide or silica. is the earth's most abundant mineral. Silica is considered to be either free (i.e.. unbound to other minerals) or combined. Minerals with high amounts of free silica include quartz (including granite) flint. Chert, opal, chalcedony, and diatomite. Combined forms of silica are called silicates and include, among others, asbestos talc and kaolin.In the crystalline form, silica exists as quartz, cristobalite, and tridymite (Fig. 28). Of these quartz is ubiquitous in the environment and occurs as sand and as a part of many rocks. Cristobalite and tridymite occur naturally in lava and can be formed by the heating of quartz or amorphous silica. Cristo-balite is more tibrogenic than quartz. Amorphous silica is noncrystalline and, therefore, is relatively nontoxic and does not cause silicosis. It occurs as diatomite (skeletons of pre-historic marine organisms) or as vitreous silica (glass), the result of carefully melting and then quickly cooling free crystalline silica. Heating diatomite with or without alkali (a process known as calcining), forms cristobalite and adds the respiratory toxicity of free crystalline silica.There are many opportunities for occupational exposure to respirable crystalline free silica. Some of the commonly en-countered occupations in which the risk of silicosis exists are reported in Table 20.Silicosis. the pulmonary disease caused by the inhalation of silica particles of respirable size, is most commonly cate-gorized by findings on the chest radiograph. The most typical presentations simple silicosis and progressive massive fibrosis appear different radiologically but are grouped under the category of classic silicosis because they are a part of the radiographic spectrum of this illness. Radiographically, simple silicosis appears as small (less than 10 mm in diameter), rounded opacities, typically predominant in the upper lung zones. Progressive massive fibrosis is the result of the coalescence of these small nodular opacities and appears as larger opacities (more than 10 mm in diameter), again typicallydistributed in the upper lung zones."

Decision theory is the formal theory of the logic of decisions in view of the decision maker's objectives, preferences, I beliefs, and available information, It usually deals with weighty economic problems involving irrevocable (or costly to reverse) decisions. Capital investment planning problems constitute an instance par excellence for application of the decision theory concepts. Decision theory as it is presently conceived has evolved in recent years. At first it concentrated on decisions in the face of total lack of information and on games with intelligent adversaries. The results of these efforts proved theoretically interesting, but practically of little applicability. In the last few years, stress has shifted to the introduction of subjective probabilities and preferences, and the results have been eminently successful in applications both in government and with- in business firms in the resolution of complex problems.

NQ Minerals PLC, through Hellyer Gold Mines Pty Ltd, plans to reprocess the contents of the Hellyer tailings dam to produce lead/silver concentrate, zinc concentrate and pyrite concentrate (containing Au and Ag). This paper discusses the project development, mineralogy, metallurgy and chemistry of processing Hellyer tailings and the associated environmental benefits. The Hellyer and Fossey orebodies were volcanic hosted polymetallic massive sulphide deposits located within the Mount Read volcanic arc of western Tasmania. Mineralisation was hosted in massive sulphide (pyrite) and comprised predominantly of sphalerite, with lesser galena, chalcopyrite and arsenopyrite. The Hellyer orebody was mineralogically complex (fine grained) and was treated through differential flotation with initially modest recoveries. Fossey ore processing characteristics were similar to those of Que River ore and simpler than Hellyer but treatment still resulted in significant grades in flotation tailings. "In this paper, the photochemical catalysis degradation effect of photocatalyst obtained by charcoal-supported nano TiO2 (nano TiO2 / charcoal) on the formaldehyde in the air was studied. The influences of the nano-TiO2 loading and the photoreactor structure on the efficiency of photochemical catalysis degradation of formaldehyde was reviewed.The nano - TiO2 / bamboo charcoal adsorption of formaldehyde, as well as the influences of a certain amount of formaldehyde after adsorption on its photochemical catalysis effect were discussed. The sol preparation process of Ce-doped nano-TiO2 was described. Experimental results indicated that: the surface of bamboo Charcoal still has a strong formaldehyde adsorption capacity after Supported by Nano TiO2.After adsorbing formaldehyde, the photochemical catalysis degradation efficiency of formaldehyde of the catalyst at a steady state is basically the same with new prepared catalysts’. When the thickness of the catalyst layer of the multi-ladder-type structure photoreactor is 2mm, the interval is 20mm, the absorption efficiency of formaldehyde of Nano- TiO2 / bamboo charcoal is the best . Nano-TiO2 undoped Ce responded with no degradation of formaldehyde after 2 hours, while the degradation rate of formaldehyde of the Ce-doped nano- TiO2 reached 15% 2 hours late, and the formaldehyde decontamination of the equipment reached 94%.IntroductionEmerging out of home decoration in the distribution of formaldehyde, benzene, ammonia and other indoor pollutants have been proved to be very harmful to the human body. Photocatalysis can eliminate air pollutants, in particular, can effectively degrade the air volatile organic compounds, it is a new method of air purification developed in recent years. the biggest advantage of photochemical catalysis degradation is green, this method can be available at normal temperature and pressure to degrade formaldehyde and other organic matter into carbon dioxide and water without secondary pollution.Nano-TiO2 have become the most studied photocatalyst due to its stable, non-toxic harmless, superior photochemical catalysis properties [1]. Initially nano-TiO2 powder was used as a photocatalyst, but it’s difficult to recover and easy to wear and tear [2,3]. Later, the TiO2 was used in the form of film loaded on some carriers, such as glass beads [4]. As the photochemical catalysis reaction occurred on the catalyst surface, only the organic matter adsorbed on the catalyst surface can be degraded, so the catalyst was requested that must have a strong adsorption. Combined the adsorption properties of bamboo charcoal and the photochemical catalysis activity of nano-TiO2 together. Made the photocatalyst by loading the nano-TiO2 on bamboo charcoal to degrade organic matter in the air. Nano-TiO2 semiconductor photocatalyst has a strong catalytic oxidation due to the photo generated hole of the surface [5,6],and has a potential application. Some studies have shown that nano-TiO2 photocatalysis activity can be increased by doping certain metal ions [7,8].The aim of our work in this study was to use bamboo charcoal load Ce-doped nano-TiO2 photochemical catalysis oxidation to degrade formaldehyde,and design a multi-ladder structure photoreactor, also prove the availability of the device from the theoretical and experimental."

The choice of which mining method to use at many large surface coal mines is often dicated by what machinery is available or what experience the mine management can offer. One of the most significant surface coal mines in Turkey is owned and operated by the Turkish National Coal Board, located to the west of the city of Kütahya. The Seyitömer Lignite Enterprise (SLE) extracts low quality coal, the majority of which is supplied to an adjacent power station. The coal seems at SLE contain bands of ash which under normal mining conditions are extracted with the coal. This increases the ash content of the run of mine coal and results in lower efficiency at the power station and financial penalties for SLE. In this paper, therefore, selection of the best possible equipment and production method was identified to achieve high selective mining at SLE. The research found that two different high selective mining methods were suitable for selective excavation of the B3 seam, which were hydraulic excavator and truck and surface miner and truck combinations. It was also found that high selective excavation could provide the desired coal quality at 52% lower costs when the whole process (excavation, transportation, processing, etc.) was considered. Capital Quarries in Owensville, Missouri faces several challenges when designing a blast that allows for ease of movement while maintaining controlled throw and compliant air over pressure. The primary challenge is the nearest non-owned structure (NNOS) is a residential home located 250 feet from the quarry. Another challenge is a production bench which is 100 feet tall and separated from the NNOS by Pennsylvanian fire clay that filters out high frequency waves from the blast. Material from the blast must also be less than 5 inches in order to be processed by the crusher in the quarry. To provide as much relief as possible, production shots will consist of a single row with the minimum required burden. To design the shot, signature hole analysis was used to determine the optimal timing between powder columns. Electronic detonators provided an accurately timed shot to minimize the amplitude of the vibrations while maximizing the frequencies. Boretraking and 3D profiling with Renishaw laser profiler and Strayos drone photogrammetry provided an accurate burden measurement. Powder factor was kept at 1.3 tons/lb using bulk emulsion. The boreholes were split into 5 powder columns with the top of the hole firing first in order to blast to floor grade. The resulting shot produced good fragmentation and shot to floor grade. Seismograph readings showed air over pressure vibrations within legal limits. Due to this success, multiple shots will be designed using the process described.

"One of the outstanding problems confronting automotive engineers in attempting to construct motors of greater economy is that of eliminating the ""knock"" from the operation of the engine. Recent investigations of this detonation or knock in internal-combustion engines, especially of the high-compression type, have demonstrated that it can be eliminated or reduced by decreasing the reaction velocity of combustion by adding small quantities of certain compounds to the gasoline, This makes it possible to use engines of a higher compression ratio, thereby greatly increasing the mileage per gallon of gasoline consumed. The savings in fuel reserves from increasing the proportion of crude oil marketable as motor fuel and in permitting the designing of more efficient engines are obvious.Ethyl gasoline, one of the widely used anti-knock fuels, is ordinary motor gasoline to which has been added 3 c.c. of tetraethyl lead and 2 c.c. of a halogen carrier, as ethylene dibromide or trichiorethylene, or approximately 0.06 per cent of the lead compound and 0.04 per cent of ethylene dibromide by volume. Ethyl gasoline should not be confused with ethyl fluid, which is a mixture of concentrated tetraethyl lead and ethylene dibromide in the prowler proportions for mixing with gasoline, but is not a motor fuel and is not sold to the public. Also tetraethyl lead is not a motor fuel, and likewise is act sold to the public."
