Researchers at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) performed laboratory testing to examine and improve airborne dust capture and methane removal performance of flooded-bed scrubbers on continuous mining machines using a blowing face ventilation configuration to reduce respirable dust exposure to shuttle car operators. Several testing conditions were examined to minimize shuttle car operator dust exposure without adversely affecting continuous miner performance and production. Curtain-to-face setback distance of 9.1 m versus 15.2 m (30 ft versus 50 ft), face ventilation airflow of 226.5 m3/min versus 339.8 m3/min (8,000 ft3/min versus 12,000 ft3/min), and the use of side-body-mounted blocking sprays (on versus off) were the three primary parameters compared. Scrubber airflow was set and maintained at 198.2 m3/min (7,000 ft3/min) throughout testing. An examination of slab cuts versus box cuts and the location of the shuttle car (present behind the continuous miner versus not present in the entry) was also performed to demonstrate the effects of these constantly changing scenarios on scrubber performance. Results show that the best blowing face ventilation setup for minimizing shuttle car operator dust exposure for the tested parameters uses a 15.2-m (50-ft) curtain-to-face setback with 339.8 m3/min (12,000 ft3/min) face ventilation while operating the side-body-mounted blocking sprays. INTRODUCTION Coal mine worker overexposure to respirable coal dust continues to be a problem in U.S. underground coal mining operations, potentially leading to coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (black lung). The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) requires that respirable dust exposure to coal mine workers does not exceed a 1.5 mg/m3 average over the actual working shift (79 Fed. Reg. 24814 (2014)). Although using a blowing face ventilation configuration on continuous miner (CM) sections is beneficial for removing methane emissions from the mining face, it can be detrimental for dust control for shuttle car (or ram car) operators and any other workers on the return ventilation side of the CM when compared to exhausting ventilation. Even with machine-mounted scrubbers on CMs, shuttle car operators still have some of the higher dust exposures with blowing face ventilation systems (NIOSH 2011, Beck et al. 2015). Although scrubber discharge air is not completely clean, dust being blown around the scrubber inlet and therefore not being captured by the scrubber can further increase these dust exposures (Goodman 2000). Dust control problems are also caused by inadequate face ventilation quantities causing scrubber face airflow recirculation issues (Schultz et al. 2010). In order to minimize respirable dust exposures on blowing face ventilation sections, ventilation, water spray, and scrubber parameters were experimentally examined to improve operating ranges for both dust and gas control. Several blowing face ventilation factors were examined with respect to CM spray systems and scrubber operation. Curtain-to-face setback distance and side-body-mounted blocking sprays were previously examined in the laboratory for dust control on a full-scale CM model using a scrubber on a blowing face ventilation system (Goodman 2000). The blocking sprays produced larger dust reductions at the CM’s rear corners and return for a 6.1-m (20-ft) curtain setback distance as compared to a 12.2-m (40-ft) curtain setback distance with equal face and scrubber airflows of 169.9 m3/min (6,000 ft3/min). Because face ventilation airflow quantities, shuttle car operator locations, and tracer gas concentration gradients were not previously examined during these experiments, additional research was required to determine improved operating parameters for blowing face ventilation systems.

SiO2 and Al2O3 in the metallurgical slag of nickel laterite ore have great recycling values. In this work, Si and Al were extracted from the slag in NaOH based molten salts through alkali roasting and water leaching process for preparing zeolite materials. The extraction ratio of SiO2 increases with increased temperature and appropriately prolonged time, and more than 80% SiO2 can be recycled from the slag after roasting at 550°C. Si and Al from the slag are in the filtered liquor for producing zeolite materials, while Mg, Ca, Fe and other impurities remain in the leached residues. Adding Na2CO3 into the alkalin-slag roasting process can reduce the amount of pure NaOH used with minor decrease in extraction ratio of SiO2, while make better separation of Ca to avoid it getting into the filtered liquor. Adding Al2O3 into the alkalin roasting process can replace part of more expensive NaAlO2 addition that is required for preparing zeotite material, which may bring out a minor decrease in extraction ratio of SiO2 due to formation of NaAlSiO4 in the filtered residues. Quality X zeolite and 4A zeolite materials can be made from the starting liquor containing Si and Al recycled from the laterite nickel slag through alkali roasting and water leaching process.

Although the Mt Charlotte gold resource was discovered in 1893, it was only in 1954 that geologists correctly interpreted drill data and defined a large low-grade orebody. The mine has been a large, low-cost and profitable producer since 1962 when bulk mining commenced using cut and fill. From 1968 a combination of long hole open stoping with delayed mass blasting was used. This proved to be an excellent mining method for the large, separate subvertical orebodies. The structured but otherwise good quality rock allowed very large stopes to stand unsupported. Exceptionally large equipment, for its time, was used to efficiently mine, muck and move the ore at low-cost. The mine only just survived severe cost pressures in 1974-76, due to very low gold prices. Better gold prices in 1979 and a need to access deeper ore meant a bold commitment to sink the Cassidy Shaft and refurbish the mine to sustain future profitability. In 1997 the Sam Pearce Decline connected to the underground workings, making it profitable to mine upper level remnant ore. Mining-induced seismicity has been a feature of mining at Mt Charlotte. The main cause has been shearing on structures. A mine-wide seismic system was installed in 1994. Large seismic events have occasionally made management question whether a safe working environment can be maintained. Thorough investigations led to an understanding of the problem and development of procedures to minimise seismicity.

Approach: A reasonably priced reliable system which automatically senses a fire and activates dry chemical extinguishers, has been built and field tested. How It Works: Heat sensors mounted in the engine compartment and hydraulic hose areas detect the fire, usually before the operator does. This causes the system to automatically discharge A-B-C class dry chemical extinguisher through a fixed piping system.

FREE energies of formation of zinc sulfide and magnesium sulfide had previously been estimated to an accuracy of ± 5.0 kcal per g mol. In the present work, these values were determined experimentally. As the determinations of the free energies of formation of zinc sulfide and magnesium sulfide presented different problems, separate experimental procedures were employed for each. ZINC SULFIDE It is difficult to measure the free energy of formation of either zinc sulfide or magnesium sulfide by measuring their decomposition pressures directly, as they are very stable compounds. An attempt was made by Jellinek and zakowski3 to study the equilibrium. zns(s) + H2(g) = Zn(g) + H2S(g) [I] They passed hydrogen over zinc sulfide and analyzed the gases leaving the reaction zone for H2S. They were unable to determine the true partial pressures of the H2S by this method, as some of the H2S on being cooled from the reaction temperature, reacted with the zinc in the gas to produce ZnS. Consequently, they were unable to establish any true equilibrium data for reaction [I]. More recently,' the equilibria ZnS(sphaledte) + Fe (s) — FeS(s) + Zn(g) [2] and ZnS(sphalerite) + 2Cu(s) — Cu2S(S) + Zn (g) [3] were studied. As the standard free energy of formation of Cu2S is known to * 3.0 kcal, and of FeS to ± 1.0 kcal, it should be possible upon performing equilibrium studies on reactions [2] and [3] to deduce the standard free energy of formation of ZnS (sphalerite). However, as both of these equilibria involve 2 solid sulfides, and as it is possible for these sulfides to dissolve in one another, it is necessary first to ascertain the activities of the various sulfides in these solid phases.

TRANSPORTATION is one of the most important problems of the mine operator and the possibilities of cost reduction in this field should not be overlooked. In the railroad industry, cars and locomotives have been improved greatly, and the progress there made is well worthy of study by the mine operator looking for maximum efficiency in every branch of his activities. One of the outstanding developments in the construction of railroad equipment in recent years has been the wide-spread adoption of large one-piece steel castings for the framework of locomotives, passenger and freight cars. Some of the advantages and applications of this type of construction will be outlined in this paper, with particular thought of the needs of the mining industry. The inherent qualities of cast steel: homogeneity, unrestricted size and shape, high tensile strength, flexibility of metal distribution, resistance to corrosion, and gracefulness of outline, make it the most versatile member of the ferrous group. Not only is it a strength-giving element, but it is corrosion resistant, a combination that makes for large economies in equipment maintenance. Flexibility of metal distribution allows the integral foundation to be in the shape best suited for the purpose. These cast structures are really assembled in the mold in liquid form and the metal can be placed in the right pro¬portion exactly where it is needed, thus securing weight economy and uniformity of fibre stress. Such a process permits the incorporation, with ease, of necessary brackets, utilizing them to provide not only greater strength for the derail part itself, but often to add to the value of the entire unit. Laps, seams, and joints, which are necessary in all fabricated forms, are eliminated.

When a chemical analysis is made of a fertilizer, the amount of K is deter-mined and then calculated to the equivalent amount of K2O. However, the compound K2O does not exist in nature. Most of the world's potash supply is derived from mineral deposits similar to those in Saskatchewan and New Mexico. However, there is some production from concentrated surface brines such as occur in Searles Lake, California; Salduro Marsh, Utah; the Dead Sea; and from well brines in Micl1igan."

R.C. Ferguson (District Manager, Hardinge Company Inc., Hibbing, Minn.) — In the opening paragraph of Mr. Bernstrom's paper he stated that the Cascade mill performance information is preliminary. With the completion of the 1962 operating season, more reliable performance information became available. The main bearings, which had been damaged, were reconditioned at the factory. New Gatke bearing bushings with a 120° are of contact were supplied. Provision was made to introduce high pressure lubricant at two points in each bearing. New spherical bearing balls that operate in spherical seats were aligned at the factory and held in place by several setscrews to aid in installing the bearings in the field. The screws were not loosened prior to, or during, operation; therefore, the bearings operated as rigid bearings. The lubricant cooling system was changed to the cooling tower type to provide lubricating water of a suitable temperature. Another refinement consisted of installing a device to add a set percentage of soluble oil to the make-up water.

El presente texto describe las características estructurales y estratigráficas de los yacimientos epitermales de baja sulfuración en el corredor estructural de San Pablo en Porculla, Cajamarca. En este sentido, el corredor se relaciona a un sistema de fallas regional que tiene rumbo general NW-SW y está segmentado por fallas transformantes de dirección NE-SW, que limitan bloques estructurales. Asimismo, sobre este corredor estructural se ubican en forma alineada una serie de yacimientos epitermales del tipo baja sulfuración. Los yacimientos están controlados por fallas de dirección NW-SE y contienen mineralización en vetas y mantos con relleno de cuarzos, calcita y baritina con importantes valores de oro y oro-plata y las estructuras menores relacionadas a las fallas transformantes. Finalmente, estos yacimientos pueden constituir un nuevo e importante objetivo de exploración por minerales de oro – plata del tipo bonanza.

THE hot-working of iron and steel is an art dating back to antiquity, but until about 25 years ago, relatively few alloying elements were used, and these were present only in small percentages. With the exception of sulphur, the amounts of other elements in steels did not markedly affect their hot-workability. The references in the literature on the effect of other elements on the hot-workability of steel are usually reports of failure of these steels in forging or rolling.1/8 With the increased use of alloying elements, and their use in larger amounts, it was observed that many of the new steels were red short in certain critical ranges or at all hot-working temperatures. The stainless steels are particularly difficult to hot-work. The determining of the correct conditions for piercing, rolling and forging of these alloys by experimentation in the mill often results in large losses of these expensive metals. It also is found that the hot-workability limits of many types vary from heat to heat, and hence poor results are obtained on changing to a new heat after a previous one has rolled satisfactorily. To determine the effect on hot-workability of iron to which various elements have been added, it was, necessary to devise a method that could be used on small quantities of metal. In such a method, the minimum number of variables should be present, and the procedure should be simple, quick and correlatable with large-scale hot-working operations. Sauveur,9 in the first Henry Marion Howe lecture in 1924, described the effect of carbon on the ductility of steels in torsion near their critical points. He found that carbon increases the plasticity of gamma iron. In the 1930 Campbell Memorial lecture,10 he gives the effect of carbon, chromium, and chromium and nickel on the ductility of steels under 2000°F. in torsion. Ellis11 has studied the malleability of steels at various elevated temperatures by means of a single-blow drop-hammer test. In this test the percentage decrease in height of standard cylinders is taken as a measure of their malleability. He has shown that in the low-alloy steels studied, carbon has a greater effect than nickel, chromium and vanadium. In 1938 the first tests were run on a new quantitative hot-workability test in the laboratories of the Globe Steel Tubes Co. Thum12 mentioned it in 1940. An illustration of the apparatus was published in January 1942.11 The effect of a few alloying elements on the hot-workability of metals was shown in a description of the test in 1944.14 DESCRIPTION OF TEST METHOD The method adopted after a trial of several others is a rapid twisting of bars to failure in a furnace. Long Shaft has traditionally been seen as one of the most challenging mines in the Kambalda area with operations having been suspended by the previous owners in 1999. When mining recommenced in October 2002, the current owners (Lightning Nickel) decided that a different approach was required for mining operations in such an aggressive geotechnical environment. This paper describes how Lightning Nickel has successfully and safely operated the Long Shaft complex on a traditional mining approach, which encompasses the key learnings of the previous owners.

Steel plants generally employ static BOF end point control models to arrive at a given temperature and chemistry at the end of blow. These end point models have now been supplemented with chaos control models to steer the blowing process in the right direction while the blow is in progress. Merely arriving at the correct end point temperature is however not adequate because in the subsequent stages as well the temperature variations can be large and unpredictable. The present paper deals with an integrated model to take into account the effect of all parameters affecting temperature and composition from tapping to the start of casting to minimize the use of LF or aluminum heating, and also minimize grade mixing. The application of lean operations strategy is explained in which the previous “Push System’ is changed to a “Pull System”, minimizing the use of ladle furnace or aluminum heating during steelmaking.

A method of calculating the changes in blast-furnace performance brought about by burden and/or blast modifications is presented. Essentially the method consists of three simultaneous equutions derived from materials and heat balances. These equations can be used not only to evaluate quantitatively the effect of changes in process operating variables on furnace performance, but also to provide a useful means of evaluating changes in process variables which cannot be measured directly. It has been customary for a number of years to use simple heat and materials balances as a basis for assessing blast-furnace practice. A good example of the method used to set up these balances is that proposed by Joseph and Neustatter.1 This approach to process assessment has limited utility, however, in that it cannot be used to predict the furnace coke rate or production under new operating conditions. Using an approach based on multiple correlation of blast-furnace variables, R V. Flint2 has developed an equation which may be used to predict the change in coke rate that will result from some changes in operating conditions with a reasonable degree of accuracy. Although this equation has useful applications in production planning, it cannot be used to study the relationships between the operating variables and the fundamental thermochemi-cal characteristics of the process. In attempting to analyze the blast-furnace process quantitatively, the idea of dividing the furnace into zones3 may at first appear attractive. In our present state of knowledge, however, it is not possible to define with any accuracy the physical limits of such zones in relationship to their temperatures or to the reactions which may occur in them. Although its application is restricted, the zonal approach to blast-furnace analysis is useful in some instances. For example, the change in the calculated flame temperature in the "combustion zone" caused by injecting steam constitutes information which is helpful in understanding why the addition of steam to the blast is best accompanied by an increase in blast temperature. The zonal approach cannot, at the present time, be used to establish the relationships between process variables and process performance if the whole process rather than part of it is to be considered. One of the earliest approaches to the problem of relating blast-furnace operating variables to pro- duction and coke rate was that developed by Marshall.4 Essentially Marshall's work showed that it was possible to estimate the performance of a furnace by solving three simultaneous equations which consisted of rudimentary carbon and heat balances plus a further equation relating the production, wind rate, and the carbon burned at the tuyeres. Although these equations did not include all of the chemical and thermal variables of the process, their derivation and application seems to be the earliest attempt which achieved any success in relating prior furnace operating data to the calculation of furnace performance under different blast conditions. Work carried out in Germany has been directed mainly towards prediction of coke rates using material and thermal balances rather than statistical methods. wesemann5 used prior furnace operating data as part of the basis for predicting the change in coke rate accompanying a change in burden composition. This author employed a method of successive approximations to estimate the secondary changes in slag volume and stone rate brought about by the change in coke rate. The most recent analysis, which seems to have been developed concurrently with the thermochemical model presented in this paper, has been described by Georgen.6 This author has succeeded in improving on Wesemann's approach by expressing the total changes in the slag volume and stone rate in terms of the change in coke rate itself. This is accomplished in a manner similar to that used in the thermochemical model described in this paper. Although Georgen makes use of a calculated furnace heat loss, he does not relate the heat loss per unit of hot metal to the production rate as is done in the present work. Georgen's approach may be used to calculate the changes in materials requirements accompanying changes in furnace operation; it cannot be used to assess the resulting changes in production. The fact that blast-furnace behavior can be interpreted by consideration of the heat requirements of the process was demonstrated by Dancy, Sadler, and Lander.7 In the analysis of blast-furnace operation with oxygen and steam injection these authors showed that it was possible to account for the changes in production and coke rate

"The binary Fe53Mo47 and ternary Fe54Mo30P16 coatings have been electrodeposited from citrate-based electrolyte on mild steel (MS) substrates. The electrodeposition has been conducted for 6 hours at 20 mA cm-2 and 30°C. The electrochemical tests were carried out in chlorate solutions containing 300 g L-1 NaCl and 4 g L-1 K2Cr2O7 at pH 6.4 and 80°C. A number of surface characterization techniques such as SEM-EDS, XRD and EMP were used to study the microstructure of the alloys. The electrocatalytic activity of these coatings was investigated using steady-state polarization and galvanostatic technique. This study revealed that the Fe-Mo-P coating could be considered as a promising cathode material for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The results showed an important decrease of hydrogen overpotential for Fe-Mo-P alloy as compared to that of Fe-Mo and especially MS which is a traditional cathode in chlorate industry. The HER overpotential for Fe54Mo30P16 at current density of 250 mA cm-2 was decreased by 30% in comparison to that of MS (1029 mV), and by 16.5% to that of Fe53Mo47 coating (857 mV).INTRODUCTIONSodium chlorate is used for manufacturing of several daily consumption products. This chemical is mainly employed for the production of chlorine dioxide (ClO2) that is a bleaching agent used in the pulp and paper industry. The ClO2 is also consumed for generation of perchlorates, chlorites and other chlorates, as an herbicide and in uranium processing (Cornell, 2002). he leaching behavior of palladium in ammoniacal solutions has been investigated by using the rotating disk technique in an autoclave. The study included the effect of rotating speed, temperature, oxygen pressure, composition of ammoniacal solutions, and catalyst on the overall leaching rate. The dissolution of palladium in ammoniacal solutions was discussed in view of the thermodynamics and a kinetic model. Even though the potential-pH diagram suggests that palladium metal can dissolve in ammoniacal solutions at room temperature, it was found that the dissolution was too slow at temperatures below 100°C but was significantly improved at higher temperatures. It was also found that the rotating speed of palladium disk had no effect on the leaching rate. The apparent activation energy was found to be 69.7 kJ/mole. Based on the results obtained, it is concluded that the dissolution of palladium is controlled by chemical reaction.

Between 2005 and 2021, surface mining haul trucks were involved in 54 fatal incidents in the United States [1]. Collision warning and avoidance systems (CXS) can help haul truck operators navigate their route safely. The evaluation of CXS object detection performance for surface mining haul trucks relies on the positional accuracy of the ground truth instrument. As part of a holistic approach, researchers from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) characterized the accuracy of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) that serves as the ground truth instrument to determine object position and velocity in CXS object detection performance testing. We used precision surveying equipment to establish ground truth points for comparison with GNSS data collected for static positional measurements and reduced-scale straightline vehicle dynamic tests. We conducted these tests with real-time kinematics (RTK) and then satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS). For the dynamic tests, we measured a distance error of 1.34 m (4.40 ft) using RTK and 1.50 m (4.92 ft) using an SBAS. This research will provide CXS manufacturers and CXS researchers a basis for evaluating the positional accuracy of CXS. Note that we did not evaluate any CXS in this experiment.

INTRODUCTION A mine's power system represents the driving force behind all of the extraction and auxiliary operations, because the production and transportation of mined material and the operation of equipment, such as fans and pumps, are all dependent upon a power source. Once, compressed air was the primary power source in mining; today, however, electrical power dominates. This chapter reviews the basic theories of com- pressed-air and electrical power and provides several examples of applications in mine power systems. COMPRESSED-AIR POWER General Compressed air has been, and should continue to be, an important source of power in mining operations. It has been used as a means of blasting coal in conventional mining and is widely used to operate stopers, mucking machines, and other air tools in both coal and hard-rock mines. Such applications demonstrate the suitability of compressed air for applications requiring linear motion, but it is also utilized for its reliability and safety. A compressed-air system is composed of a compressor, a receiver, a distribution network, and the air-operated machines. A compressor takes in air at normal atmospheric pressure (free air) and compresses it to a higher discharge pressure. The discharge pressure must be high enough to overcome the friction in the distribution system of pipes and hoses and deliver the compressed air to the machines at the pressure recommended by the manufacturer. The most common type of compressor used in mines is the reciprocating compressor in which the air is compressed by a piston in a cylinder. An air receiver is a container or storage tank that is located in the distribution system between the compressor and the machines. It stores compressed air, when the full capacity of the compressor is not being used, and gives a more steady flow of air to the machines. The distribution network consists of pipes, Oalves, elbows, tees, and hoses that transmit the compressed air from the receiver to the machines in the mine. It is essential that the distribution system be designed with the proper sizes and lengths of pipe, hose, and other components to keep pressure losses well within allowable limits. The air-operated machines consist primarily of drifters, stopers, pluggers (sinkers), slushers, and several other pieces of equipment. Compressor Operation Every compressor is made up of one or more basic elements; a single element, or a group of elements in parallel, comprises a single-stage compressor. Many compression problems involve conditions beyond the practical capability of a single compression stage. Too great a compression ratio (absolute discharge pressure divided by absolute intake pressure) may cause excessive discharge temperatures or other design problems. It, therefore, may become necessary to combine elements or groups of elements in series to form a multi- stage unit, in which there will be two or more steps of compression. The number of stages commonly used in reciprocating compressors is as follows: Pressure Number of stages 0- 150 pig 1 80- 500 psig 2 500-2500 psig 3 2500-5000 psig 4 When pressure is referred to as pounds per square inch gage (psig), it means the pressure (in pounds per square inch) above barometric pressure as measured by a gage. The sum of barometric pressure and gage pressure is the absolute pressure (in pounds per square inch). The gas is frequently cooled between stages to reduce the temperature and volume entering the subsequent stages, thereby reducing the work required for compression. The basic reciprocating compression element is a single cylinder compressing on only one side of the piston (single-acting). A unit compressing on both sides of the piston (double-acting) consists of two basic single-acting elements operating in parallel in one casing. The reciprocating compressor uses automatic spring-loaded valves that open only when the proper differential pressure exists across the valves. Intake valves open when the pressure in the cylinder is slightly below the intake pressure. Discharge valves open when the pressure in the cylinder is slightly above the discharge pressure. Although it is impossible to give definite final figures at this time on Nation-wide accident occurrence in 1933 , enough data are at hand to indicate that the progress in safety in the mining industry, which first became apparent in 1930 and was accentuated in 1931 and 1932 , was continued and much improved in 1933. This improvement was of considerable magnitude in mining both bituminous coal and anthracite but was not so great in other branches of the mining industry . While the volume of work done in all phases of mining increased in 1933 over that in 1932 , the exact amount of the increase is not yet known . Usually increased activity in mining is accompanied by even greater increase in the rate of occurrence of accidents to the workers , but happily it appears that this " rule " was not operating in 1933 --at least in the coal -mining industry .

The oxidation of nickel sulphide and copper sulphide concentrates, and coal, has been studied under non-ignition and ignition conditions using Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) and Thermogravimetry (TG). The non-ignition reaction was favoured by slow heating rates < 10°C min-1), low masses < 10 mg) and an air atmosphere. Under these conditions, the typical stepwise oxidations of the various sulphide minerals present in the concentrate were observed as resolved exothermic peaks in the DTA curves and weight losses in the TG curves. Above a heating rate of 10°C min-1 , sample masses in excess of 10 mg and an oxygen atmosphere, an ignition reaction was induced, as indicated by a major high energy exotherm in the DTA curve and a major rapid weight loss in the TG curve. The ignition temperatures of the minerals under ignition conditions, found for 15 mg samples heated at 20°C min-1, were 434°C for the nickel sulphide concentrate, 372°C for the copper sulphide concentrate, and 230°C for the coal. By plotting a curve for mass against ignition temperature at constant heating rate and extrapolationto zero mass, a value of 470°C was obtained for the mass independent ignition temperature of the nickel sulphide concentrate. Ignition temperatures and extents of reaction at various temperatures were obtained using the TG technique in a novel manner which produced heating rates of 4500°C min-1. Under ignition conditions, the oxidations approximate to flash smelting conditions.
