Six years ago it was my responsibility to give the presidential address, and now that privilege has come my way again. On that occasion we were gathered atWhyalla and I took the opportunity of putting before members some observations on the problems we then faced in Australia, and some gains we had been able to chalk up during those early postwar years. You may recall that we were then just beginning to emerge from the difficulties of postwar reconstructions - of fuel and power shortages, and a grossly inadequate manpower for the tasks facing us. The expansion of manufacturing industry in Australia greatly stimulated by wartime activities, and by the postwar developments of many institutions - ran ahead of the supporting services and of the supply of labour to do thejobs. For many industries this unfortunate state of affairs had meant operating at rates well below their installed capacities and therefore levels of output insufficient for Australia's rapidly growing needs. When I last spoke to you these problems were still with us, though their intensity was beginning to lessen as a result of vigorous efforts by industry and governments to reduce them. But I must confess that my thoughts on that occasion were full of those problems and of the effect they were having on the iron and steel industry of this country-of the coal shortage, the labour shortage, and the many other difficulties we were then faced with - and all at a time when the stepping up of our postwar expansion programme was of vital concern to all of us.What a different picture it is six years later! Agglomeration techniques have been successfully applied to commerical heap leach cyanidation operations for the recovery of precious metals from low-grade ores, mine wastes, and tailings. The major parameters important for successful agglomeration pretreatment of these feed materials are discussed. Several commercial agglomeration-heap leaching operations are described. Two of the operations converted from conventional heap leaching to agglomeration-heap leaching after coventional heap leaching proved unsuccessful. Heap performance before and after agglomeration is discussed. A fairly recent operation that began production using agglomeration-heap leaching technology is also described. Two operations that processed milled tailings by agglomeration are discussed. The tailings feeds could not have been economically processed by means other than agglomeration-heap leaching.

This paper deals with the power plant at Cassiar Asbestos Corporation Ltd., Cassiar, B.C. It discusses the units installed in the plant, the distribution of power and the costs involved. The efficiencies and economics of this power plant are considered to be somewhat better than average. Introduction C ASSIAR Asbestos Corporation's power plant had its inception in 1952 with a 15-by 15-ft. log cabin containing two International Harvester diesel generator sets of 50 kw. total generating capacity. Over the years, it has grown to its present size -an 80 by 82 ft. by 35-ft.-high rigid-frame Butler building housing eight 2,300-volt diesel generating sets, a 2,300-volt distributing switchboard, a 550-volt auxiliary panel, three air compressors, six heat exchangers and other related equipment. The units in the power plant, numbered according to their order of placement, are rated as shown in Table I. The total generating capacity of the plant is 3,673 kw. THE martensitic transformation in the ß-phase of the Cu-Zn system has been the subject of several investigations. The transformation is known to be reversible and to be affected by stress. Its temperature range has been determined as a function of composition. In the investigation reported here, the effect of tensile stresses on the transformation was investigated quantitatively. Some information was also obtained on the thermoelastic behavior of the martensite formed in the first stages of the transformation. Most of the experiments were done with alloy E of an earlier investigation;' this alloy analyzed 60.49 pct Cu and 39.51 pet Zn by weight. The methods of shaping and heat treatment were also essentially the same as those previously used. The stress was applied to the specimen immersed in a cooling liquid. The transformation was followed by measuring the electrical resistance with a Kelvin bridge and the elongation with a cathetometer. Fig. 1 shows the M, temperature as a function of stress. Resistance and strain measurements gave essentially identical values. The results suggest a roughly linear relation between M. and in the range investigated, up to 12 kg s mm". At higher stresses, plastic deformation begins to interfere seriously with this relationship. The increase of M, with stress is consistent with published work on the effect of stress on the martensitic transformation. The slope of the curve, 4°C per kg mm ", is of the same order of magnitude as the corresponding value calculated for steel.' Fig. 1 also shows the difference, AM, between the temperature of 50 pct transformation on cooling, as measured by changes in length, and that of 50 pct reverse transformation on heating. This difference, which may be considered a measure of the hysteresis, increases with stress; the decrease at highest stresses is probably associated with plastic deformation. Preliminary work using only resistance measurements was done with an alloy containing 60.15 pct Cu and 39.79 pct Zn by weight. The results indicated higher values o-F M, in agreement with the known variation of M. with composition.' The effect of stress on M, (2°C per kg mm-') was of the same order of magnitude as that shown in Fig. 1 for composition E. An increase in hysteresis with stress was also found. The following experiment was made in order to investigate a partially transformed structure. A specimen of alloy E was cooled to — 85°C under a stress of 4.7 kg mm-'. Under these conditions, the martensitic transformation started but did not go to completion. The stress was then released and the specimen cooled to — 105°C. Fig. 2 shows the measured elongation c. The first change in the slope of the curve indicates the beginning of the transformation under stress. Removing the load at —85°C caused a decrease in length to the value corresponding to the elastic elongation of the parent phase resulting from the applied stress. Hence, the marten-site formed in the first part of the experiment apparently disappears completely and without hysteresis upon the release of the stress. The increase in length on further cooling indicates renewed formation of martensite. These conclusions are consistent with the concept of "thermoelastic" martensite," which has been confirmed by test." Acknowledgments The authors are greatly indebted to Professor M. The limits of flammability and minimum autoignition temperature of a fuel are important elements in assessing fire and explosion hazards that may exist when using or handling the fuel. The limits of flammability define the range of compositions of the fuel gas or vapor mixed with an oxidant through which a flame, initiated by an outside energy source such as an electrical spark, can propagate. The minimum autoignition temperature (M.A.I.T.) is the lowest temperature at which the fuel vapors ignite spontaneously in a specified medium; in this case the ignition energy is supplied by the heat content of tae environment. This temperature is also referred to as S.I.T. value by some authors. Because the autoignition of a fuel also depends on the time interval during which the fuel is subjected to heat, ignition delays are significant. Ignition delay is defined here as the total time elapsed between the introduction of the liquid fuel into the oxidizing atmosphere and the appearance of a flame. This time interval includes both the physical and chemical processes leading to ignition. The ignition delay is usually maximum at the M.A.I.T, and decreases as the temperature of the system is increased. The flash point and the fire point are also useful in assessing the fire and explosion hazards of a fuel. The flash point is the lowest temperature at which saturated, flammable fuel vapor-air mixtures are formed at atmospheric pressure and, therefore, it is essentially the lower limit of flammability

"The object of this paper is to outline a computerized net cash flow approach for practical cutoff grade determinations. A cutoff grade carries not only geological but also economic value, in which costs are balanced against revenues. For different situations, cutoff grades are a 'standard of value' that are determined for the purpose of classifying economic or uneconomic mineral reserves in a specified time frame. In a constantly changing technical and economic environment, the decision to develop or maintain a mining operation at its best economic potential, requires an appropriate cutoff grade strategy, a strategy consistent with short- and long-term operational and corporate objectives and one based on realistic marketing and metal prices forecasts. The use of a project evaluation computer program, in combination with specific corporate net cash flow requirements, shows the most promising and flexible team approach for cutoff grade optimization.IntroductionThe recent recession has had a devastating effect on the Canadian mining industry. Exploration and mining R&D expenditures have been critically reduced and now are believed to be below healthy levels. Ore reserves, mine life and cutoff grades are careening in several directions because of low base metal prices, relatively high costs and sensitive precious metal prices.These conditions demand an improved understanding of the terms ""ore"" and ""cutoff grades"" as they are applied to the planning process and day-to-day operations. ""Ore"" or 'ore reserves"" is a dynamic concept, reflecting a cumulative effect of changes in geological, technical and economic conditions in terms of material which can be mined at a potential profit. By contrast, if economics are not the primary consideration, the term ""mineral reserve"" or ""mineral inventory"" should be used to describe the mineral deposit. For different situations, cutoff grade is ""a standard of value"" determined for the purpose of classifying mineral reserves as economic or uneconomic in a specified time frame. The question of mining at average reserve grade or low-grade material during high metal prices is of paramount importance for cutoff grade strategy."

The introduction of froth flotation technology in Canada, and in particular, in British Columbia, began not long after it was successfully applied in the Broken Hill mining area of Australia which began around 1905. It proved to be a revolutionary and transformative technology that resulted in marginal operations in copper, lead and zinc becoming profitable in spectacular fashion. The paper presents the technology of both oil flotation and froth flotation in the context of the challenges of the time and its early application in British Columbia at the Le Roi No.2 mine (1903), the Britannia Copper mine (1912), and at the Allenby concentrator of the Copper Mountain mine (1918-19). New-found archival documents indicate the Britannia application to be the first production application of froth flotation for copper ore outside Australia, a claim that is currently made by the Braden mine (now El Teniente) in Chile. Flotation was initially an add-on process following gravity methods but was rapidly shown to be far superior method for the bulk and selective recovery of metal sulphides. Flotation proved particularly successful for the recovery of zinc sulphide (the so-called ‘zinc problem’) which was considered a contaminant at the time. The ‘copper problem’ related to the poor recovery of fine copper sulphide particles that were not amenable to gravity methods. The success of flotation led to changes in both the scale and methods of mining, concentration and smelting in a manner that allowed integrated mining companies to flourish. Many are still with us today. INTRODUCTION The advent of froth flotation in the early 20th century was truly a revolutionary technological development, not only for the mining and metallurgical industries, but arguably more so for business and society overall. The Canadian technology historian Jeremy Mouat stated (1996) “The development of flotation was the greatest single metallurgical improvement of the modern era...it is not overstating the case to claim that flotation was of central importance to the smooth functioning of the global economy”. It should, therefore, be a story of interest to us all. The aim of this paper is not to retell the full story, that has been well covered by others (Hoover, 1912; Rickard, 1916a; Hines & Vincent, 1961; Lynch et al., 2010) but rather to add some Canadian perspective and the key role played by companies and individuals in those early days, focusing on events in British Columbia’s copper industry. EARLY DEVELOPMENTS During the later half of the 19th century, a number of flotation-related patents were issued. These include the 1860 patent (Britain) granted to William Haynes for a process to separate sulphides from ground ore by mixing it with oil (1-10% wt) followed by a separation process in a water-filled vessel; the 1877 patent granted to Georg and Adolph Bessel (Germany) for a process involving the mixing of oil and graphite ore followed by boiling in water to produce a high grade graphite froth (>90% carbon); and the 1885 patent granted to Rebecca ‘Carrie’ Everson for the separation of sulphides by mixing sulphide ore with small quantities of oil, and adding water followed by sulphuric acid. These processes are more properly referred to as bulk oil flotation due to the relatively large quantity of hydrocarbon used.

This paper focuses on the significant impact that geological information has in relation to the valuation, both equity market and accounting records, of mining companies. There are many different measures adopted by investors and analysts in valuing mining companies. In particular, focus is primarily on calculation of profit as it is the authors primary expertise. The importance of geological information to the calculation of profit (and to many other measures of a mining company performance) is not always understood by the geologist. The aim of this paper is to raise the awareness of geologists (particularly those who are competent persons under the JORC code) of the impact that reserve statements û and changes to û have on profits. This is the first time that this subject has been presented directly to geologists. Similar versions of this paper have been presented at other forums where other important users (directors, auditors, accountants, analysts, investors) or preparers of financial statements have been made aware of the importance of the geological information. In essence, all mining companies prepare annual financial statements, which are adopted by directors and audited. The major items that require judgement generally revolve around two areas û commodity price outlook and the accuracy of reserves and resources. Reserves and resources are important, and that there is undoubtedly a lack of understanding about the assumptions and accuracy of reserves and resources by accountants, directors and auditors, and a general lack of understanding by geologists as to how the information that they prepare is used. Across the globe the majority of mining companies are listed on stock exchanges (with the main exception being nationally controlled mining companies û eg Codelco). In a very simplistic manner, I have divided all mining companies into three types: exploration plays û these companies are still in the finding or proving modeÆ and typically the stock market and investors rely on geological information and remaining cash in determining their assessment of the company; single mine companies û the major items that investors and the stock market look for are reserves, inferred resources, commodity price outlook and discounted cashflow calculations; and multiple mine companies û the investment community and stock market are looking at reserves, inferred resources (generally to a lesser extent at this stage), commodity price outlook, discounted cashflow calculations and profit and loss accounts. Regardless of the type of company, the equity markets, including analysts, try to determine appropriate valuations for mining companies. In doing this the major two areas that require judgemental consideration are the commodity price outlook and the level of reserves and resources. Generally speaking, most mining companies have a strong understanding of their cost structures û in particular their cash costs as distinct from their accounting costs of production û and therefore this area generally gets less consideration than the other two matters mentioned above.

For the purpose of extending the service life of MgO-C bricks used as linings of vanadium-extraction converters, the effect of Fe addition on properties of MgO-C bricks was investigated. The results showed the addition of Fe could effectively improve the sinterability of the oxidized layer of the MgO-C refractory at 1400°C due to the effect of FeO (formed by oxidation of Fe) on formation of MgO-FeOss and modification of the microstructure, and excellent corrosion resistance against vanadium containing slag was also obtained due to the increase of compactness of the oxidized layer and concentration of FeO in the oxidized layer. Consequently, it is considered that MgO-C brick by introducing the new phase of Fe is a favorable substitute of MgO-C refractory to be used as linings of vanadium-extraction converters.

"A key barrier to vertical mineshaft construction is the construction access required for workers. A suspended work stage is used to provide this access for the mechanical, electrical and structural applications and other tasks. Work stage design is complicated considering the numerous types of construction activities that are executed simultaneously, the confined environment in which the work stage operates, the significant corrosion attack that is present, the weight limitations imposed by the mechanical hoist systems, and the risks associated with worker safety. Also complicating the design, these structures and their construction environment can vary with time. Hence, they can be described as 4D structures. The author has discovered significant synergies and advantages with integrating engineering design with detailed three-dimensional (3D) fabrication design. The significant reduction of minor design errors needing field correction will be underscored. The tender process is also accelerated since the design output is fabrication shop drawings including a detailed quantity takeoff output which lists each component required and its specific quantity. The paper presented will document the numerous advantages to the project using this approach. "This study was undertaken in a belt conveyor drift of an underground hard rock mine. The conveyor transported ore or waste from a crushing operation located upwind from the drift sampling locations. A 250 m section of this drift was selected and several types of measurements were taken. Average respirable concentrations in the drift were 0.43 mg/m3 and 0.19 mg/m3 for total and silica dust, respectively. From the respirable dust concentration profile along the drift, it may be possible to estimate the contribution from extended sources such as dust produced by the belt and return idlers.The airborne dust in the drift had an average mass-median aerodynamic diameter of 4.2 micron. A continuous dust monitor showed that the crushing operation produced fairly high dust concentrations (sometimes greater than 4 mg/m3) over short periods of time.IntroductionAirborne dust in the respirable range is known to be the cause of various forms of lung ailments . In underground mines, respirable dust sources are created at many stages of production. All mining operators are responsible for de signing and establishing means of reducing airborne dust. In some cases, sources of dust are well defined and suppression methods are standard.In the case of interest here, the airborne dust cloud was formed from the contribution from many sources, which may be either discrete or extended. At the experimental site, the discrete or point sources were the crushing operation and the belt conveyor transfer point (tail pulley). These sources may be controlled by proper dust capture and scrubbing systems as well as dilution ventilation. Examples of extended dust sources in the area include dust produced by the re-entrainment of settled particles along the drift. Ventilation air movement and vehicular traffic both contribute to this phenomenon. Dust produced by the conveyor is another example of an extended dust source. Caked deposits on the return strand and idlers as well as the transportation of dry material on the belt, can be major contributors. Proper wetting of roadways and muck as well as proper belt cleaning techniques can help reduce these emissions. The cleaning apparatus, used on the belt where these experiments were conducted, is shown in Figure I. These and other belt cleaning techniques are described in more detail elsewhere."

This paper describes the Bureau of Mines-El Paso Mining and Milling Company cooperative research program at the Emerald Isle mine3 near Kingman, Ariz. This research program was directed toward developing in situ leaching methods for 200,000 tons of ore exposed in the pit bottom and also 1,500,000 tons of ore under 200 feet of overburden adjacent to the pit. A test area in the pit bottom containing 15,000 tons of ore was blasted and leached. The results of this leach test were encouraging, and the entire pit bottom was leached in-place for about 7 months. Two test blasts under 200 feet of overburden and extending to 290 feet were detonated in an area near the open pit. The results of these blasts were evaluated by core drilling and permeability measurements. An in situ leaching system was designed, but not implemented, to recover copper from the 1,500,000-ton area near the pit. The company decided to terminate operations at the Emerald Isle mine in November 1975.

INTRODUCTION MINERAL deposits that have formed by the various geologic processes, when exposed to air and water at or near the surface of the earth, break down and form new compounds that are stable under surface conditions. Mechanical disintegration of the ores proceeds along with chemical alteration which generally is attended by oxidation, carbonation and hydration. Essentially all minerals are affected-silicates, carbonates, native metals, sulphides, etc. Where iron sulphides are present, oxidation yields sulphuric acid, and in the presence of oxygen and iron, ferric sulphate, a powerful solvent, is formed. Above the water level, in the vadose or shallow zone, both air and water are present. Below the water level air is excluded and that which is carried down with water is removed from the solution by reactions with reducing materials. Above the water level, solution is the pre-dominating process; below the water level, precipitation generally is equally important. In some deposits, particularly above the hater level, valueless materials are removed from the ore, leaving certain metals in a more highly concentrated state. This type of alteration, which has been termed negative enrichment, is common in ores of iron, aluminum, manganese and certain other metals. Some gold deposits, particularly those in which the environment is unfavorable for solution of gold, have been enriched near the surface by removal of material other than gold. Certain metals are readily dissolved in an oxidizing acid environment. These include copper, silver and, under certain conditions, gold. In the presence of iron sulphides, deposits of these metals are likely to be leached above the water level. The metals are carried downward to depths where air is excluded, and where they may be redeposited, generally below the water level. Such enrichment by addition of metals has been termed positive enrichment.

Since World War II, when off-track mining became popular, mining machinery has undergone much change. However, the change has been basically to make the machines more powerful, more productive and more reliable. Little change has been made, in this period, in the basic mining system. While steady improvement was made in productivity until the passage of the new Federal Coal Mine Health & Safety Act, I believe that the cost Co benefit ratio of further improvement from this basic approach of improving the existing extractive tool is not as promising as I believe may be obtained from a new approach. Consequently, six years ago Conoco and Consol undertook a comprehensive long-range R&D program to see if improvements of a more basic nature could be made in underground mining. We concluded early in our program that while many things currently limit the rate of production such as the rate at which roof can be supported, time needed to advance ventilation systems, time required to clean up and rock dust, time required to maintain and service equipment as well as time lost due to haulage deficiencies, that the key to improvement was a truly flexible continuous high capacity haulage. With face equipment in use today, mining rates can be increased with such a haulage system where the ability to support the roof exceeds the ability of conventional haulage equipment to remove the coal. More importantly, if we could develop such a system, it would set the stage for development of far more sophisticated methods of mining at the face than exist today, and as new and more dependable mining machines and methods are developed, continuous transportation will enable the gains envisaged in production to be realized.

Paper written on project work carried out in partial fulfilment of B. Tech (Metallurgical Engineering) degree Fine coal of the Goedehoop Colliery is dewatered by centrifuging before being sold. Full-scale plant tests were carried out to reduce residual cake moisture by the addition of surfactants. It is believed that by modifying the interface between the coal surface and the adherent surface water, as well as the water occluded in the cake voids, drainage is improved. Two anionic surfactants at concentrations up to 150 g/t were tested on coal of <0.5 mm size. The results demonstrate that quite high additions of surfactant (80 g/t)were needed to reduce moisture from 20 to about 17?18%. It was observed that when increasing surfactant additions at low levels, within a very narrow concentration range, the retained moisture first increased sharply only to decrease sharply immediately thereafter; this effect points to a critical surfactant concentration. Based on the obtained results, the use of surfactants cannot be recommended at this stage; further investigations under more controlled conditions are required.

In the context of a case study for an underground gold mine, the value generated by a schedule optimisation tool (SOT) is assessed. SOT is a software tool for underground mine planning that maximises the net present value (NPV) of a development and production schedule. A baseline study measures the NPV of a schedule generated by SOT from a sequence prepared by the site mine planners. Operational resource constraints and precedence constraints are adhered to by the schedule and NPV is evaluated with a financial model including revenues, costs and discount rate, as specified by the mine planner.The case study has several facets in addition to the baselining component. Scenarios were conducted that examined the degree of constraint on operational resources, the projected gold price and unit costs. Life-of-mine schedules subject to optimisation using SOT allowed for equitable comparisons.Haulage was identified as a dominant constraint for the mine. It was one of six operational resources that were used to constrain the optimisation of the mine schedule, with alternative levels for some of these constraints being identified so that their effects on the NPV could be studied. Alternative price projections for gold and different cost projections were identified and their effects on the optimised schedule examined. Price and cost scenarios that brought additional economic material into the schedule at various times in the mine life were considered in comparison to a scenario that assumed no additional economic material would become available.This case study illustrated that the use of a schedule optimisation tool to optimise mine schedules provides mine planners with an ability to perform a wide variety of analyses in a relatively short period of time. Such tools thereby support strategic decision-making that can add significant value to an orebody.The case study demonstrates that by fixing the set of development and production activities to be carried out before optimising the life-of-mine schedule, the mine planners can inadvertently set up a situation where the NPV would be progressively eroded in the last several years of the mine life. Introduction A number of processes for deriving more convenient liquid and gaseous fuels from coal are commercially available or in final stages of development. Generally, synfuels from coal processes have efficiencies ranging from 50 to 70%. Considerable engineering design and development work are necessary to bring forth commercial plants using the various technologies-but technological breakthroughs are not expected or needed. Gasification While a variety of solids handling, gas contacting, and gas quality upgrading techniques may be employed in the various gasification processes, the primary goal is the same-to convert a sulfur-containing solid to an essentially sulfur-free gaseous product. The gaseous product may be a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide with nitrogen. Definitions are not rigorous, but high-Btu gas is generally over 900 Btu/scf(33 534 kJ/m3) and low-Btu gas is generally below 350 Btu/scf(13 041 kJ/m3). Medium or intermediate gas falls between these values. High-Btu production is more difficult, as it requires additional upgrading of a low- or intermediate-Btu gas stream to produce a commercially acceptable product. The carbon/ hydrogen ratio is adjusted either by rejecting a portion of the carbon, increasing the hydrogen, or a combination of both. The chemical processing steps include production processing gas containing carbon oxides and hydrogen by the reaction of carbon and steam (gasification); reaction of hydrogen and coal to form methane (a hydrogasification process); reaction of hydrogen and carbon monoxide to produce methane (methanation); and the removal of impurities. The gasification processes share a number of common techniques. The coal received at the plant site must be further cleaned and crushed or ground before it can enter the gasifier. Conventional cleaning methods are used to remove extraneous materials such as metal, rocks, etc. For some processes the coal must be finely ground so it may be fluidized or entrained in a flowing gas stream. For other processes crushing and sizing only are required. Agglomerating coals may be pretreated by heating, mild oxidation with air, or other procedures to assure smooth gasifier operation and to avoid reactor plugging. Nonagglomerating coals Such as lignite and subbituminous coal normally do not require pretreatment. Feeding a solid material such as coal to a higher pressure reactor is a difficult task. Dry feeders using a series of pressurized lock hoppers, or wet systems in which a slurry is pumped into the reactor, are used. The gasification step is the heart of the process. Here, the solid feed material is contacted with synthesis gas (carbon monoxide and hydrogen). The coal is devolatilized and a portion of the fixed carbon converted to methane. The gas-solids contacting methods used include fixed beds, fluidized beds, moving beds, entrained beds, and free-fall systems. The gasification process, overall, is endothermic and the heat required to maintain reaction rates is usually supplied by burning a portion of the coal feed. External heat sources such as electric resistance heating, molten salt or solid heat carriers, and the introduction of a hot hydrogen stream also have been tested. Following the gasification step the particulate materials and heavy hydrocarbons contained in the reactor effluent are removed by a water quench and solids separation system. If low-Btu gas or synthesis gas is the desired product, the raw gas is scrubbed to remove carbon dioxide and sulfur compounds and then is used directly. "Oxy-fuel combustion is one promising option among different CO2 capture technologies. The object of this work is to show the effect of CO2 dilution on the laminar flame speed, flame structure and reaction pathway for methane oxidation at O2/CO2 atmosphere. In this paper, kinetic simulations were made using CHEMKIN with GRI-Mech 3.0 mechanism, which was validated by experimental data of laminar flame speeds. The reaction pathway of CH4/O2/CO2 mixture was derived from reaction flow analysis. Results showed that CO2 decreased the flame speeds, lowed concentration of major intermediates and increased flame thickness. The major chemical pathways of CH4 to CO2 have not changed at O2/CO2 atmosphere comparing with O2/N2 atmosphere, but contributions to major intermediates formation from each related elementary reaction have changed a lot. In addition, the secondary chemical pathways of CH3 oxidation became different at O2/CO2 atmosphere.IntroductionNowadays, as the global economy is developing fast and the pollutant levels (especially global warming gases) are increasing, a lot of researches are focusing on new technologies which can cut greenhouse gas emissions [1]. New technologies have been developed, such as high Mild combustion, flameless combustion and Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) technology. Oxy-fuel combustion using carbon dioxide as dilution of oxygen is considered as a promising approach for reducing CO2 emission. The properties of CO2 in flue gas are different from N2 in air. On one side, the transport, thermal and radiative properties of CO2 are different from N2 in air. On the other side, CO2 is not inert but directly participates in chemical reactions and recent researches [2-5] also present the chemical effects of CO2 on oxy-combustion. For these differences above, the characteristics of oxy-combustion are not alike with traditional combustion. It is necessary to develop the investigation of oxy-combustion.In all combustion processes, laminar flame speed is an important parameter, which links to combustion behavior. Analysis of this parameter can provide a better understanding of the effect of CO2 dilution in the process of oxy-combustion. Several investigations of laminar flame speeds of oxy-fuel flame have been improved, including experimental measurements and numerical computations. A.A.Konnov et al. measured the flame speeds of oxy-methane and oxy-ethane mixture using the heat flux method with a flat burner [6-8]. V. Ratna Kishore et al. used heat flux method to measure the adiabatic laminar flame speeds of hydrogen [9] and H2/CO mixture [10]. Adiabatic laminar flame speeds of hydrogen in O2/CO2 atmosphere are much smaller than in O2/N2 or in O2/Ar. The burning velocity of H2/CO mixture decreased with increase in CO2 content in mixture. Jeongseog Oh et al. [11] used Bunsen flame to measure the laminar flame speeds of premixed oxy-methane mixture with angle methods in atmospheric condition (300k, 1atm). The results were SL=29.1cm/s and SL=29.5cm/s respectively derived from oxy-methane from CH* images and Schlieren photos."

The processing of banded iron ore by direct anionic and reverse cationic flotation to produce pellet grade concentrate is investigated. This low-grade iron ore, known as banded hematite quartzite (BHQ) contains 41.8% Fe, 41.5% SiO2, 1.2% Al2O3, and 0.5% LOI. The flotation behavior of BHQ is studied by varying the effect of concentration of collector, frother, dispersant and pH. Oleic acid and dodecylamine are used as the anionic and cationic collectors respectively. The parameters that gave the best results in cell flotation are utilized in 100 mm diameter flotation column. All the results are compared with regard to the iron grade and recovery in concentrate. It is observed that, anionic collector with dispersant dosage of 220 g/ton, at pH ~8.5 is selective and yielded a high-grade iron concentrate with low silica as impurity. Also, it is possible to achieve an iron concentrate with 64% Fe at 30-37% weight recovery. The characterization studies of the BHQ ore using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and liberation analysis with QEMSCAN® are carried out. The sample contains 58.8% hematite and 37.7% quartz and the liberation of hematite particles are found to be 90.3% in -25 µm size. An alternative statistical modeling approach called response surface methodology was also undertaken to optimize the operating parameters in order to maximize the iron grade and recovery. The predicted results by the model are in agreement with the experimental values.

S. is allocated between industrial and other uses The industrial volume is divided into two classifications (1) where-there is competition between fuels and (2) where there is no competition. The pattern of fuel consumption by electric utilities was studied because there, is competition between fuels and because it is the fastest-growing industrial market. Electric utilities fuel consumption is discussed by geographic area. The growth of each fuel in several areas is investigated.
