El carbón es una sustancia fósil de origen vegetal, color negro y estado físico sólido que se encuentra en la corteza terrestre interestratificada entre rocas sedimentarias, de donde es extraída mediante técnicas de minado para su utilización principalmente como combustible, reductor y materia prima para la obtención de productos carboquímicos. Sin embargo, la energía solar "enterrada" deriva del proceso de la fotosíntesis, donde los vegetales del carbón, pueden sintetizar su propio alimento a partir de sustancias símples tales como el agua y el dióxido de carbono que son captadas del suelo y del aire, para transformarla en azúcar, que es una sustancia alimenticia constituida por un hidrato de carbono. En este sentido, el presente texto señala el uso del carbón como energía solar enterrada en el que se busca la generación de electricidad, la licuefacción y gasificación del carbón futuro para compensar el déficit de la disponibilidad del petróleo y el resurgimiento de la carboquímica. En cambio, los incrementos del empleo del carbón en la industria siderúrgica, continuarán con el actual ritmo moderado.

Talc mining in Vermont has in recent years undergone a progressive change in mining methods and in mining equipment. Underground mines have been phased out except in special circum- stances, and continuous mining machines (CMM?s) have replaced conventional drill/blast mining systems. Talc mining in Vermont began in the late 1800?s, and has continued without interruption to date. Beneficiation (flotation) has been applied since the early 1930?s, and has provided special products for toiletries and other markets. At the present time, there are two active companies that have evolved from the cumulative absorption of nearly ten smaller operations.

DeGrussa Copper Mine, resource status 10.2 Mt at 5.7 per cent Cu, 2.1 g/t Au (Sandfire Resources, 2013), commenced concentrate production through its 1.5 Mt/a conventional copper flotation processing plant in September 2012. Geometallurgical assessment during the feasibility study identified potential process-critical ore factors that required further investigation to determine potential impact on processing. Ore characterisation and metallurgical processing performance test work of ore types ensued and subsequently, the first quantitative DeGrussa geometallurgy model was born. Now one year into steady state production, the geometallurgical program has evolved significantly from its infancy and provides valuable insight into ore characterisation and behaviour in the processing plant. This paper details geometallurgical investigations undertaken at DeGrussa to date; from feasibility metallurgical test work through to geometallurgical modelling and management practices, as well as reconciliation between observations at feasibility study level and subsequent observations in production.CITATION:Condon, J, Butler, C, Hooper, B and Vass, P, 2013. WITH the modern trend toward motor drive in coal mines, more careful forethought should be given to future layouts than has usually been done in the past. Both top and bottom equipment of future new mines is likely to differ radically from those of a decade ago. No one is able to predict very far ahead, but provisions can be made to allow for uncertainty. One thing stands out: the mine of the future will be laid out for long life compared to that of the small mine of the past, where an inexpensive top plant, simple equipment, a small timbered shaft, small cars, light rail, hand loading and mule haulage all contributed to a short economical life.

IN recent studies of the factors which affect the rate of desulphurization and its equilibrium, it became apparent that certain concurrent reactions were operative which had a significant effect on desulphurization. This is emphasized in the experiments of Hatch and Chipman1 and of Grant, Kalling, and Chipman' by the slow approach to a final state of equilibrium which is in marked contrast to the initial rapid transfer of sulphur from metal to slag. Since the removal of sulphur is of such profound importance in iron and steelmaking, it appeared necessary to investigate the reactions responsible for this behavior. It is now known that the presence of iron oxide in the slag interferes seriously with the principal reaction of blast-furnace desulphurization: CaO (slag) +-S + C - CaS (slag) + CO [l] The interfering reaction is most simply expressed as: CaS (slag) + 0 = CaO (slag) +-S 121 and a small concentration of oxygen (or FeO) is sufficient to hold a considerable amount of sulphur in the metal. It has been shown by Grant, Kalling, and Chipman2 that the addition of MnO to blast-furnace slag slows the removal of sulphur from the metal. This effect overshadows the contribution of MnO to basicity and is ascribed to its oxidizing power. It will be shown in this paper that SiO, also has sufficient oxidizing power to interfere with blastfurnace desulphurization. This is, of course, only one of its several effects. Primarily it is an acid and therefore reduces the concentration of excess lime. But when silicon is reduced to the metal the oxygen to which it was previously bonded becomes in part available for reaction 2. The proof of this statement is found in the following experiments. Experimental Procedure and Results Utilizing the same procedure and apparatus described by Grant, Kalling, and Chipman' five additional heats were made using slags IV and 11, the starting compositions of which were: slag IV—40 CaO, 10 MgO, 35 SiO,, 15 A1,0,; and slag 11—50 CaO, 10 MgO, 25 SiO,, 15 Al3O3. An important difference between these heats and those previously reported was that silicon to the extent of 1 to 4 pct was added to the present heats whereas the starting silicon content was formerly about 0.2 pct. Table I shows the slag and metal analyses for heats 82 to 87, and Table I1 shows the silicon addi- tions made to the charge. These additions are based on 400 g of metal and 400 g of slag. All heats had 1.65 400pct S charged before the cold slagadditions. The temperature was maintained at 1525°C. Rate of SiO, Reduction: Fig. 1 shows the silicon content of the metal in contact with slag IV at 1525°C as a function of time. Heat 70 from the work of Grant, afunctionKalling,of and Chipman is included as the lowest starting silicon. It will be noted that eeven with 4 pct Si in the starting metal, there is an increase in silicon content with time. Heat 84 is apparently approaching silicon equilibrium very slowly. Heats 70 and 82 with very much lower slowly.starting silicon show a more rapid initial rise in startingsilicon content but do not reach equilibrium during a long holding period. Fig. 2 shows 3 different initial silicon contents for Fig.2shows3differentheats 73 (from Grant, Kalling, and Chipman) 86 and 87, in contact with slag II, the most basic slag. Heat 73 is increasing in silicon with time, whereas heat 87 with an initial silicon content of 3.7 pct shows a decrease with time. Heat 86 shows a very close approach to equilibrium. The rate of transfer of silicon from slag to equilibrium.metal is very slow in all of those heats, even those which are initially far from equilibrium. ____

"INTRODUCTION Reinforced Concrete (RC) members such as beams and columns are usually required to include stirrups to maintain post-crack shear capacity, and some may include stirrups that act as confining steel to maintain structural integrity during a seismic event (eg. NZS3101, ACI 318). To achieve seismic resistance, the spacing between stirrups is usually required to be much closer than is ordinarily prescribed for non-seismically resistant structures. Each stirrup must also fully enclose the longitudinal reinforcement with long end-hooks to ensure that the contained concrete is sufficiently restrained during reverse-cycle loading and the reinforcing bars are confined to prevent buckling. The close spacing between stirrups can lead to congestion of reinforcement within members, and can also be expensive to construct due to the labor-intensive nature of steel fixing. A possible alternative to closely-spaced stirrups is the use of fibers to provide restraint and confinement during a seismic event, although this is not yet recognized in codes. Previous experimental research (Jiuru et al, 1992; Filiatrault et al, 1995; Bayasi and Gebman, 2002; Billington and Yoon, 2004) has demonstrated that steel fibers are relatively effective in this application, but suffer the problem that their stiffness can make them difficult to consolidate within an already tight reinforcement cage, especially if they are relatively long (>40 mm). Moreover, steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) is subject to embrittlement with the passage of time, leading to a steady loss of ductility beyond crack widths of 1-2 mm (Banthia and Trottier, 1994; Bernard and Hanke, 2002; Bernard, 2014; Bjontegaard et al, 2014; Bernard, 2015). Since cracks during seismic events are generally much larger than this, embrittlement may present a challenge to the long-term efficacy of SFRC during seismic events. An alternative to steel fibers for enhancement of seismic resistance is the use of macro-synthetic fibers. This type of fiber usually offers the advantage of being flexible so that consolidation is easier between reinforcing bars. They also offer superior durability compared to steel fibers and can reduce flexural crack widths (Bernard, 2016). Several recent small-scale investigations (Ma et al, 2012; Carnovale, 2012; Osorio et al, 2014) have indicated that macro-synthetic fibers can produce meaningful improvements in seismic resistance if used in combination with conventional steel reinforcing bars. The present investigation has extended research in this field by examining whether embossed macro-synthetic fibers can be used to increase the spacing between stirrups while maintaining seismic resistance."

"An enhanced gravity concentrator was installed in conjunction with an Intensive Leach Reactor at the Sadiola plant in Mali last year and commissioned in Dec 2007.There has been much debate over the years as to the effect of gravity concentration on overall plant performance. The late Dr Laplante suggested that for every 10% of gold recovered by gravity, there was a corresponding 0.1% to 1% additional overall plant recovery. The results at Sadiola are consistent with this hypothesis with an overall 4% gain in plant recovery.With total gold recovery of 12% in the gravity section, grades are increased from 3.54g/t in the gravity feed to an average of 2 600g/t in the concentrator feed to the in-line reactor. The recovery of gold in the in-line reactor is in excess of 98.5%.This paper discusses the background to the project, the laboratory testwork prior to the equipment selection, the operational results of the system, as well as the benefits of the future application of high mass yield centrifugal concentrators in base metals, sulphides and industrial minerals. Bench scale, pilot scale and plant practice examples are also presented.INTRODUCTIONBesides picking nuggets off the ground or out of riverbeds, gravity concentration is arguably one of the oldest methods of recovering gold. In circa 6000BC people discovered that gold can be found behind the rocks and in depressions of creek beds. By placing rocks in a stretch of channel with the proper slope the first sluice is built, probably around 4,000 BC, and this method is still practiced today."

There is no doubt, if any existed, that the commercial minerals world has now moved into a new era of unprecedented challenges in the sourcing, mining, processing, trade and use of industrial minerals. Industrial (nonmetallic) minerals remain the often unsung workhorse of mineral commodities and specialist raw materials that frankly keep the world’s manufacturing industries ticking over, and everyday products we use in sound availability. They are also very much present among the so-called “critical minerals” necessary to advance cutting-edge developments in growing high-tech markets such as in energy transition: for example, lithium, rare earths, graphite and fluorspar. Indeed, in the United States during 2024, industrial minerals again accounted for the majority share of total sourcing, and, yes, geopolitics. The last few years have witnessed a series of geopolitical issues that have impacted and continue to impact international trade in industrial minerals. Above all, it has been the threat and implementation of recent trade tariffs between countries that have been most damaging in creating a potential trade war. mine production by value at $72.1 billion, or 54 percent, followed by metals, 25 percent, and coal, 21 percent, according to the latest data from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). But right now, “industry resilience” seems to be the rallying call, with industrial mineral producers and traders facing straitened times from market slowdowns; environmental regulations; decarbonization and other sustainability issues; pressure to diversify; and near-shore mineral sourcing, and, yes, geopolitics. The last few years have witnessed a series of geopolitical issues that have impacted and continue to impact international trade in industrial minerals. This paper presents a case history of the design, installation and performance of a tied-back tangent caisson retaining wall which was constructed as part of the Third Harbor Tunnel project currently underway in Boston, Massachusetts. The Third Harbor Tunnel project consists of a large multi-lane transportation tunnel which is being constructed by the sunken tube method. In this type of construction, the tunnel alignment, slopes and bedding are excavated and installed underwater and the tunnel sections floated over the proper alignment and sunk in place. The tangent caisson retaining wall discussed in this paper was constructed to provide support of the upper portions of the tunnel excavation at the East Boston Portal where the tunnel exited from below the harbor and continued underground on shore. A portion of the tangent caisson retaining wall was also utilized to provide earth support for the barge unloading facility where spoil from the tunnel excavation was transferred to surface vehicles for removal from the site. PROJECT BACKGROUND The tangent caisson retaining wall was constructed by The Millgard Corporation (TMC) as a subcontractor to the Boston Third Harbor Tunnel Contractors, a Joint Venture which consisted of the firms of Morrison-Knudsen Corporation, Interbeton Inc., and J.F. White Contracting Company. The entire project team is listed below on Table 1. The design of the tangent caisson wall system was performed by Hanson Engineering, P.C. (HE) acting as design consultant to TMC. The retaining wall system incorporated a single row of pressure injected earth anchors (tie-backs) as part of the design. The earth anchors were designed and installed by Drill Tech as a subcontractor to TMC.

INTEREST in silicon has arisen again in the past decade as a result of improvements in crystal rectifiers.' Although the preparation of silicon was first reported by Berzelius in 1880, the early product was of relatively low purity, and only the need for rectifiers in World War II led to the production of a 99.9+ pct pure powder. This material in crystalline form was consolidated into massive silicon for use, and the method developed was to melt it with selected added constituents as "doping" agents. Melting techniques, therefore, are of great importance. There are two basic problems in producing silicon ingots free of doping additions; one is the prevention of spitting and the other is prevention of cracking of the ingot during freezing. The most satisfactory arrangement yet developed for producing massive silicon is to melt and freeze in a cylindrical quartz crucible surrounded by a concentric heating element and concentric radiation shields or insulation. For example, use can be made of a tubular heater with a high frequency generator as the source of power and reflecting shields of alundum cylinders. The spitting of silicon is related to gas evolution, and the gas comes from two primary causes—adsorbed gas and the reaction products of silicon and the crucible. Gas is also released from bubbles contained in the quartz crucible walls. Improved removal of adsorbed gas can be achieved by means of controlled melting and freezing. The seriousness of the problem in vacuo is reduced with an electrically operated mechanical movement of the high frequency power coil. The upper portion of the powder charge is melted first and the high frequency coil lowered until the powder is completely molten. During cooling the high frequency coil is raised slowly. These means also reduce the final nonviolent extrusion of large beads of metal through the ingot top during freezing. Better control of spitting and bead extrusion is obtained when melting is done under helium at. atmospheric pressure instead of in vacuo. The problem of reaction between silicon charge and crucible in practice is confined to the reaction between silicon and quartz. This2 apparently is: Si + SiO2 + 2SiO The part that this reaction plays in spitting has not been isolated for separate study. SiO is a volatile vapor at the melting point; of silicon and is released freely during melting in vacuo, but hardly at all in helium at atmospheric pressure. The cracking of ingots is a major difficulty in melting silicon, and its prevention requires special melting techniques or the addition of "toughening" agents such as aluminum or beryllium.' The cracking of the ingots has been explained as being the result of the expansion that occurs upon freezing; although direct observation of freezing ingots reveals visible cracks on the surface only after a red heat has been reached, suggesting that cracking is the result of differential contraction of silicon and quartz. Silicon wets quartz, and the ingot adheres tightly to the crucible. Therefore as ingot and crucible cool, the two either have to pull apart, or at least one must crack. Surprisingly, in spite of the relative thinness of the quartz and the thickness of the ingot, the ingot and the crucible both crack. Microscopic and X-ray4 studies fail to show any plastic flow other than twinning in the ingots. Slow cooling fails to prevent cracking. Another possible solution to cracking is to weaken the crucible. Use of thin-walled crucibles finally led to success with fused quartz crucibles with a wall thickness of 0.25 to 0.50 mm. With such thin-walled fused quartz crucibles consistently uniform success is secured in producing sound ingots 30 mm in diam from the purest available grade of silicon (99.9+) without the use of any type of addition. Melts are made in the size range of 50 to 100 g. Omission of a deliberately added doping agent is not sufficient to insure pure ingots. The reaction of silicon with crucibles and the resultant solution of impurities in the silicon is well-established." In this laboratory, the presence of Al, Be, and Zr has been found spectroscopically in ingots melted in contact with alumina, beryllia, and zircon. The best crucible materials reported in the literature are MgO and SiO2. Use of MgO in this laboratory has resulted in a heavy deposit of magnesium on the furnace walls, showing that a reduction of the magnesia occurred and the resulting magnesium removed from the melt by volatilization. In the case of quartz, the silica is reduced and SiO liberated to deposit on the equipment walls. There probably is real danger that oxygen is dissolved in the ingot when either magnesia or silica is used as the crucible material. Preliminary analyses by Dean Walter in his vacuum unit in this laboratory6 indicate the presence of oxygen in undoped silicon melted in quartz.

IN the Labrador iron fields two concessions, totaling nearly 24,000 square miles, have been staked out and commercial-grade deposits delineated. The Newfoundland-Labrador concession, owned by the Labrador Mining and Exploration Co. Ltd., is a 20,000-square-mile tract in the upper basins of the Hamilton and N askaupi Rivers which drain into Lake Melville. The New Quebec licensed area is 3900 square miles, owned by the Hollinger North Shore Exploration Co. Ltd., lying to the northwest of the northwestern part of the Labrador concession. It includes the upper basin of the Swampy Bay River and part of the upper basin of the Whale River, both of which drain into Ungava Bay. Both of the above-named companies are controlled by Hollinger Consolidated Gold Mines Ltd. with The M. A. Hanna Co., of Cleveland, holding a minority interest. When exploration was first undertaken in 1936, the only published map of the area was that prepared by A. P. Low in 1895. It showed only the main watercourses and gave only a rough, general idea of the geology. The numerous lakes of this vast area had to be first sketched and then mapped. Since then, extensive geological and topographical surveys have been conducted by the Labrador company, work which is normally done by Government branches. Efficient design of grinding circuits for efficient production of ultrafine material requires rapid feedback of information concerning the fineness of material leaving the grinding device. Generating this information requires efficient sampling and adequate rapid characterization of the material leaving the grinding machinery. Recent developments-in electrooptic inspection of dry end wet material leaving a grinding device are critically reviewed. New methods for characterizing ultrafines are discussed. A rapid operating automated cybernetic (intelligent) permeability device for automatic control of grinding circuits using Blaine index and other fineness indices is described.

With ever rising energy costs, it is increasingly important for mines to operate with energy efficiency. As a large portion of a mine?s energy consumption is often attributed to the operation of mine ventilation fans, maintaining an efficient ventilation system is a critical pro-active way for mining companies to reduce power costs. A common way to measure a mine?s ventilation system efficiency is to calculate the volumetric efficiency, which is simply a calculation of the percentage of total mine air that is usefully employed for production. The purpose of this study is to document a nationwide comparison of the volumetric efficiency of U.S. underground coal mining operations. The results will aim to show just how efficient today?s coal mine ventilation systems are and what factors may be causing their various efficiencies and inefficiencies.

A mass transfer coefficient for the removal of hydrogen from liquid aluminum by inert flush degassing has been determined experimentally at 700°C. A mathematical model has been derived, assuming transport control, which adequately describes the experimental data. The removal of hydrogen is shown to increase with decreasing bubble size, and with increasing flow of flushing gas. The presence of hydrogen in liquid metals in amounts which exceed the solid solubility at one atmosphere hydrogen pressure is highly undesirable, causing unsound ingots or castings, or resulting in difficulties during further fabrication. The removal of hydrogen from liquid metals can be accomplished by several methods, the principal two being vacuum treating and inert flush degassing. The design of a process involving either of these techniques is based on the mass transfer coefficient for hydrogen between the liquid metal and a hydrogen-dilute gas phase. In an effort to extend our knowledge in this area, an investigation of the rate of removal of hydrogen from liquid metals by inert gas flushing was undertaken. In view of the difficulties encountered with gas porosity in the casting of aluminum and aluminum alloys, and because of certain experimental advantages, liquid aluminum was selected for the study. PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS The removal of gases from liquid metals, particularly steel, has received considerable attention in recent years, The first definitive work of a theoretical nature was presented by Geller1 who considered the case where equilibrium exists between purging gases and metal bath during flushing, and also deviations from this ideal case. Hulme2 has surveyed a number of experimental studies and discussed some of the practical limitations of removing dissolved gases from molten metals. More recently a number of studies have been reported on degassing of steel melts by flushing with an inert gas.3'4 Considerable work has also been reported on aqueous and organic liquid-gas systems, and an excellent summary prepared by Hovis.5 The treatment of liquid aluminum by a flushing gas to remove dissolved hydrogen has been known for several decades.6 A number of gases have been used for this purpose, including nitrogen, argon, and chlorine, or mixtures of these gases. Tikkanen and Erkko7 have studied the relative density changes of aluminum castings poured from melts degassed with chlorine, nitrogen, and mixtures of the two gases. Their

"Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is frequently used as an oxidizing agent in various applications. It has also been reported to reduce the recovery of sulfide minerals. Moreover, the previous work applied H2O2 aqueous solution in selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite. However, the oxidation method suffered in pilot scale test due to too long conditioning time. Furthermore, the excessive reagent consumption increased the reagent cost, causing the method not economically feasible. Consequently, further improvement is required to reduce the conditioning time and the reagent consumption. The oxidation performance of H2O2 can be improved by using ferrous iron as catalyst, producing a Fenton’s reagent which is more powerful oxidizer than the H2O2 itself. Therefore, the effect of Fenton’s reagent on the floatability of chalcopyrite and molybdenite was investigated in this study. The flotation test results show that selective flotation of chalcopyrite and molybdenite might be possible at low concentration of H2O2 aqueous solution by adding ferrous iron. Moreover, the conditioning time could be shortened by this improvement. To understand the phenomenon, surface characterization using atomic force microscopy (AFM) along with x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis were carried out. The AFM images show that the surface of chalcopyrite was readily covered with mountainous features which alters its hydrophobicity after the oxidation treatment. Meanwhile, the molybdenite surface remained clean and relatively hydrophobic. The XPS results indicate that the mountainous features are various oxidation products (i.e., FeOOH, Fe2(SO4)3, CuO, Cu(OH)2). Possible mechanisms of this phenomenon were proposed in this work.INTRODUCTIONConventionally, copper and molybdenum ores are separated in selective flotation circuits by using copper depressants (i.e., sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS), sodium sulfide (Na2S), and Nokes reagent (P2S5+NaOH)). However, these depressants are usually toxic or hazardous. Therefore, various methods have been developed to replace these toxic and hazardous depressants, for example, by synthesizing new non-toxic or low-toxic depressants or by using various oxidation methods such as sodium hypochlorite in an alkaline medium, manganese dioxide, oxygen, ozone, and plasma pre-treatment (Arbiter and Young 1951; Barzyk et al. 1981; Curtis 1941; Hirajima et al. 2014, 2017). Recent study by Chimonyo et al. (2016) reported the effect of H2O2 on reducing the recoveries of sulfide minerals. Moreover, Hirajima et al. (2017) demonstrated that H2O2 depressed the floatability of chalcopyrite and could deliver a selective separation on copper and molybdenum (Cu-Mo) bulk concentrate in flotation process. However, they reported that this method required a higher concentration of H2O2 and a longer treatment time (4.5 h) to get a comparable result to that of using NaHS as copper depressant. Therefore, further improvements are necessary to reduce the conditioning time and reagent consumption."

The Selective Precipitation (Basics) Process is a means of controlling impurities such as the ions of Mn, Mg, and Cl as well as sulphate and water, in an electrolytic zinc plant circuit. This is achieved by precipita- ting zinc selectively as a basic zinc sulphate from a portion of impure circuit solution. The impurities remain in the solution, which can be discarded, while the zinc, substantially free of impurities, is returned to the main circuit by using the precipitate as a neutral- ising reagent. A description of the process and its development to a full scale operating plant at the Risdon Works of the Electrolytic Zinc Company of Australasia Limited is Presented.

Engineering problems amenable to geophysical attack are illustrated by specific examples. The various methods available, accuracy of results, and costs are treated. The possibilities of new uses of geophysical techniques are pointed out.IntroductionTHE SCOPE of geophysics in engineering is different than in oil or mining exploration. In civil engineering, geophysics solves specific problems; as for example, what is the depth to bed-rock along the axis of a proposed dam? The area to be surveyed is of limited extent, and the subsurface information .sought is relatively near the surface. The engineering geophysicist is not called upon to investigate geological basins or extensive mineralized areas or to probe for data to thousands of feet in depth. The geophysical tools employed in the three fields are, however, quite similar; the differences are mainly in the objectives.The Natural Geophysical ExplorationThe terms geophysics and geophysical exploration have been used heretofore and will .be employed in what follows. The question is, therefore, What is geophysical exploration?Geophysical exploration is a line of field work where measurements are made at the ground surface with special instruments to get geological subsurface information. Briefly stated, geophysics is a form of exploration that supplements geological work. It is a blend of physics and geology since physical measurements are made •at the surface of the ground that can be interpreted in terms of subsurface conditions."

In recent years, considerable advances have taken place worldwide in the design and construction of first tunnel linings. With these advances, there is a tendency to move away from traditional support that includes heavy open profiles of rolled steel arches, to a lighter solution with the use of an optimized tubular steel cross section rib, and shotcrete reinforced with steel mesh and/or steel fibers, providing a continuous support (Lunardi, 1982). The development of tubular ribs has provided greater design options, increasing flexibility to engineers and contractors while providing a efficient and cost effective construction method. In this article, the authors describe numerical and experimental investigation on this problem, suggesting as a new first lining steel arch design approach by using tubular ribs cross section as new technical solution for first lining underground support.

Si bien es raro que se origine un incendio en minas de características especiales como la de Cerro de Pasco, no se descarta la posibilidad de un corto circuito o algún otro infortunio. Por ello, es necesario conocer las causas, zonas de vulnerabilidad, los métodos de minado, ventilación, los antecedentes del incendio, origen, combate, las cuadrillas de rescate minero y la prevención de este desastre.
