At the present paper, synthesis of magnesia from ferronickel smelting slag is discussed. The first stage was extracting magnesium from the slag by leaching in HCl solution. Magnesium extraction of 97% was obtained from the slag leaching with HCl 8 molar, solid:liquid ratio 1:40 (g/ml) and temperature 80 °C after 24 h. Solution purification was performed by adjusting solution’s pH at 95 °C with addition of MgO powder. At pH range range of 3–4, co-dissolved iron was removed as akagenite (b-FeOOH) precipitate. Dissolved nickel precipitation was detected at pH range of 4–6, while dissolved Mg and Al started to precipitate in the forms of pyroaurite (Mg6Fe2CO3(OH)16∙4H2O) and hydrotalcite (Mg6Al2CO3(OH)16∙4H2O) at pH range of 8–9. High purity of brucite (Mg(OH)2) was obtained by Mg precipitation at pH range of 11–12, under stirring speed of 300 rpm and stirring time of 4 h. Calcination of brucite at temperature of 1000 °C completely converted brucite to periclase (MgO) powder after 240 min.

Stilfontein Gold Mine, located approximately 160 km west of Johannesburg, produced both gold and uranium from 1952 through to the early 1990s. On decommissioning the mine infrastructure, treatment plants, rock dumps and three tailings facilities were left to be rehabilitated at considerable cost to the mining company. The community that had grown up with the mine and had settled in the mine village were faced with deteriorating socio- economic conditions.   Mine Waste Solutions (MWS), a company with a socio-economic Vision expressly created by DRD (Pty) Ltd and Fraser Alexander (Ltd) for the purpose, took over the mine surface infrastructure with the objective of closing it down in an economically sustainable manner by recovering materials, converting mine infrastructure to useful purposes and re-mining of the tailings to recover residual gold to finance the project. A business case was prepared and presented successfully to investors and bankers and the project was commenced in 2003.   The paper covers the scope of the project and gives an account of the practical lessons that were learnt as the project developed over a period of five years. Key technical issues that are covered by the paper are the re-mining techniques that were deployed to clean up the old tailings dam footprints and the selection of the deposition site to minimise the incremental impact associated with the tailings and concurrent rehabilitation of the facility. In addition the paper will outline the positive benefits that were generated for the community and the improvement that was achieved in the physical environment.   The paper illustrates clearly how a mine can be closed in a manner that produces benefits for the community, the environment and the investor.

The NASA Lewis Research Center, under U.S. Bureau of Mines program direction, performed an assessment of alternative mobile power sources for mining applications. A wide variety of heat engines and energy systems was initially examined to ascertain which could be considered as potential alternatives to presently used power systems. The present mobile power systems are electrical trailing cable, electrical battery, and diesel - with diesel being largely limited in the United States to noncoal mines. Each candidate power source was evaluated in terms, of the following requirements: (1) Ability to achieve the duty cycle (2) Ability to meet Government regulations (MSHA certification) (3) Availability (production readiness) (4) Market availability (5) Packaging capability An initial screening reduced the list of candidates to the following: (1) Diesel (2) Stirling (3) Gas turbine (4) Rankine (steam) (5) Advanced electric (batteries) (6) Mechanical energy storage (flywheel) (7) Use of hydrogen evolved from metal hydrides This list of candidates was divided into two classes of alternative power sources for mining applications - heat engines and energy storage systems. The detailed work done by Stillwell and Edwards on the occurrence of cobaltite and safilorite-Iollingite at the South Mine, followed by its presentation as a paper to the Institute, calls for, a few notes on its occurrence elsewhere in the Broken Hill field. No massive cobaltite similar to that in the South Mine veinlet is known except from the Consols Mine (as mentioned in the paper). Fine grained cobaltite has, however, been found in low-grade ore from the North Mine. Microscopic grains occur in a mineralized green feldspar pegmatite. The feldspar has been replaced in part by graphite, and the cobaltite occurs in association with the graphite. In its hardness, pinkish-white colour, and resistance to the standard etchingqeagents it is similar to the South Mine cobaltite; it is etched by acid permanganate solution. An interesting feature of this occurrence is the way in- which some of the minerals (notably galena) have forced apart the graphite lamellae in crystallizing, forming lenses enclosed by the curved cleavage surlaces 0;[ the graphite.StillwelI and Edwards cite a note by G. Smitht for the statement that "cobaltite has been recorded from the Australian Broken Hill Consols Lode in the vicinity of the rich silver deposits, though not in contact with them."Smith, however, is here referring to the oxidized zone. Elsewhere in the same article he states "... a deposit of cobaltite in a very much altered condition was found. This was impregnated with silver, and assayed as high as 3,000 ounces," Of the cobaltite in the unoxidized zone, Smith simply states that it became rarer with depth.Cobaltite has also been recognized by Mr. H. F. Whitworth, M.SC., Curator of the Mining Museum, Sydney, in specimens from Burt's Copper Mine eight miles south of Broken Hill.

The term a matte " is applied to smelting-products so extremely diverse in composition and physical properties that it appears impossible to devise any generic formula to represent, chemically, the manner in which the varied proportions of the almost unlimited possible constituents combine with each other. Mattes produced in copper-smelting, in distinction from those produced in smelting-operations in which the recovery of cop per is secondary to that of other metals, cover a narrower range in composition. The copper-content of such mattes vary from 20 to 80 per cent., and even this range is much smaller in general practice since it is found advantageous, when possible, to produce mattes with about 50 per cent. of copper in the first operation. Further, it is unusual that arsenic or antimony occurs in copper-ores in sufficient proportions to form arsenides or antimonides in such quantities that they will separate out from the furnace-products, as is common in lead-smelting. Generally, the mattes produced in copper-smelting are composed mainly of copper (usually greater than 35 per cent.), iron and sulphur, the remaining elements being usually in proportions sufficiently small to allow of their treatment as impuritiee, rather than as essential constituents of the mattes. In modern practice of smelting copper-ores in blast-furnaces the tendency is to approach pyritic smelting as nearly as possible, the furnaces being low and the air supplied being largely in excess of that required for complete combustion of the carbonaceous fuel. Hence, the atmosphere of the blast-furnace thus used is usually oxidizing or nearly neutral, and, as a consequence, the reduction of metallic iron that was a necessary evil of former practice is of unusual occurrence in operations where the main object is the recovery of copper. "Cambior now holds a 49% interest in the Valdez Creek Placer, having acquired American Barrick's 23.125% interest in May 1990. At the same time, the company assumed the management of the operation and received environmental permits to divert the river. Plans are underway to divert the Valdez River in order to continue mining the deposit upstream, and to construct a new, higher capacity wash plant (by 60%) closer to the operations. Mining operations, which were suspended in October 1989 pending higher gold prices, resumed in August 1990. The mine is expected to produce 10000 ounces of gold in 1990and more than 80 000 ounces in 1991.IntroductionThe Valdez Creek Placer is located in the Valdez Creek mining district of Alaska on the western flank of the Clearwater mountain range, about 150 miles northeast of Anchorage by air (Fig. I) . The mine is accessible by air or by road.The mine is situated at an elevation of about 3000 ft and is isolated from towns and villages. Consequently, the mine site contains the facilities necessary to house and feed 135 people at any given time. The Valdez Creek Placer has 159 employees, including 130hourly and 29 salaried employees. The hourly employees are divided into three rotating teams. The daily schedule consists of two shifts of 12 hours, and each team works 14 days followed by seven days off, resulting in a weekly rotation of teams.The salaried employees work normal hours for ten consecutive days followed by four days off. A weekly rotation ensures continuity of services and management.Gold was first discovered at Valdez Creek in 1903, when a team of four men led by Peter Monahan left the village of Valdez to explore the area up the Susitna River, to the east of Mount McKinley. They discovered gold at the mouth of a creek that they immediately named Valdez Creek, in honour of their native town. In 1904, they discovered the Tammany Channel to the right of Valdez Creek. This was the beginning of a long period of mining in the area which continued until the beginning of World War II .In 1980, the Denali Mining Co. was formed. Geophysical work and drilling carried out through 1980 and 1981 led to the discovery of Channel A, a second channel which is older than the Tammany Channel. In 1983, Denali Mining optioned its claims to Camindex to explore, develop and mine the Valdez Creek property. A joint venture agreement was signed among Camindex, Talcorp, BCP Alaska (Barrick), Sum Resources (Cambior), Norfran and WGM to form Valdez Creek Mining Co., Inc., and production began in 1984. Valdez Creek Mining Co., Inc. (VCMC) was subsequently restructured and in 1989 was held by the following three companies: Camindex Mines Ltd. - 51070; Cambior Inc. - 25.875%; and American Barrick - 23.125%.VCMC is managed by a committee of the partners. Decisions made by the committee are subject to a 70% majority vote. Cambior receives its share of production in kind, and contributes in the same proportion to the expenses of the joint venture (VCMC)."

Banded ironstone and associated fine-grained carbonaceous sediments near Jardine, Montana, are enriched in gold, arsenic, and tungsten. The mineralized sediments lie within a thick sequence of quartz-mica schists cut by a 2.6 b.y, granite. Surface, underground, and drill hole mapping are used to construct structure contour maps of individual ironstone lenses. Each lens is then unfolded by triangulation of minimum surface path distances between drill hole penetration points. Major and minor element abundances in composite ironstone samples are interrelated through R-mode factor analysis. Results indicate five significant element groupings thought to reflect coarse detrital, fine detrital, sulfide-rich chemical, iron-rich chemical, and epiclastic ultramafic sediment. Ultramafic factor scores are highest in a previously undefined rock type rich in cummingtonite, biotite, and chlorite; lacking in quartz; and closely associated with at least one ore horizon. Detrital dilution of ironstone, calculated from chromium and nickel content, drops off significantly as ore-bearing ironstone is approached. This observation may indicate that centers of gold precipitation have protected themselves, either topographically or by rapid deposition, from detrital contamination. Gold mineralization correlates most strongly with the sulfide- rich factor. Gold may have been introduced through hotspring activity as a bisulfide complex.

"Conceptual imitative dynamic model of developing enterprises for medium and long-term period permitting to ensure coordination of interests of the enterprise and territorial environmental authorities has been developed to enable the process of the prognostication and management of a concentrating mill development, in which a symbol language and terminology familiar to the manager of the company are applied. An algorithm of practical application of this model of company development was elaborated as well as a general methodological approach to the prognostication of the development and procedures of its implementation. The general methodological approach to the implementation of the model has been defined. Within the framework of system approach, a concentrating mill is considered as a subsystem of an ore mining and processing company or a mining and smelting one. A concentrating technology is considered in dynamics, its change is determined by the task of making the company operation profitable. Technological indicators are secondary relative to financial and economical indexes. At the same time, technological and economical indexes are determined in their interrelation with ecological parameters. The elaborated model allows us to estimate all necessary economic, financial and technological indexes in their interrelation both for the company as a whole and as separately redistributed estimating the basic prognostication documents - accounting balance-sheet, profit and loss report, as well as the funds flow statement. When varying the managing parameters, all necessary result-producing financial and economical indexes are estimated and a need in and a possibility of an external funding by various sources are considered.The implementation of the model enables one to determine the required scale of production capacity, as well as the amount of raw-material resources needed. In case of shortages of the latter, there should be considered various scenarios of the production capacity enhancement or the possibility of commissioning of new sites or deposits and introduction of improved technologies."

L. F. Reinartz (Armco Steel Corp., Middletown, Ohio) —I would like to know, in the practical application of the Kalling process, what kind of a lining was used, how thick was the lining, and how much metal was treated at one time? S. Fornander (author's reply)—The rotary furnace is lined with a course of fireclay bricks 6 in. thick. This course is backed by 5 in. of insulation. The furnace has a capacity of about 15 tons. Mr. Reinartz—How was the ladle preheated? Mr. Fornander—As pointed out in the paper, the furnace was heated by a gas flame in the beginning of the experiments. During these first tests, however, the desulphurization was inconsistent. We think that this was due to the fact that iron droplets sticking to the furnace walls were oxidized by the gas flame. Now, the furnace is operated without preheating of any kind, and the results are much better. T. L. Joseph (University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minn.)—I might add one comment. This furnace was heated with a flame and for a time they had a little difficulty due to some residual metal in the rotating drum that would oxidize in between treatments and they found therefore, that it was very essential to drain the drum completely of metal so that they would not build up any ferrous oxide between treatments and they eliminated some of their erratic heats by maintaining those more reducing conditions. It was interesting to watch this operation. As soon as the drum started to rotate there was considerable flame, at least, at the time I saw it, that came out around the flanges, indicating there was quite a little pressure on the inside of the drum. W. 0. Philbrook (Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh)—Is the reaction slag in the Kalling process liquid or solid, and how is it separated from the metal? Mr. Fornander—In the process there is no slag in the usual sense of the word. The lime powder does not melt during the treatment. After the treatment the lime is still in the form of a fine powder. It is separated from the metal by means of a piece of wood of suitable size placed within the furnace before it is emptied. D. C. Hilty (Union Carbide & Carbon Research Laboratories, Niagara Falls, N. Y.)—Dr. Chipman has given us some of his ideas in connection with a specific effect of silicon and silica on sulphur elimination and how silicon might interfere with desulphuriz- ing in the blast furnace. I wonder if he would like to elaborate on the possibility of a similar effect of silicon in the Kalling process? J. Chipman (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, Mass.)—Silicon does not interfere with the Kalling process. Anything that has strong reducing action is good for desulphurization. In these tests where the temperature was low compared to blast furnace temperatures, the silicon that is in the metal is a better reducing agent than the carbon. At high temperatures, carbon is the better. It is not the silicon in the metal that interferes with desulphurization, it is the silica in the slag. Mr. Joseph—I might add that the metal that was tapped from the drum after desulphurization was really at quite a low temperature. It was not measured, but I think it was well under 1300 °C, probably 1200" or a little above that. That was one of the difficulties, and I think there is no question about the fact that the Kalling process—in that it affects desulphurization between powdered lime, solid and liquid iron— is a reaction definitely between the solid lime and the liquid iron. E. Spire (Canadian Liquid Air, Montreal, Canada) — This Kalling process seems very interesting to us and after all it is only a mixing action that is taking place between the iron and the slag. We have attempted to do the same thing in another way. We have placed at the bottom of the ladle a porous plug through which we injected an inert gas. It can be nitrogen or argon. This plug is placed at the bottom of the conventional ladle and gas injected through the plug. That has appeared in our patent. To define this new type of treatment, I use the word gasometallurgy. I do not know if you like it, but it is a way of defining methods of treating metal using gases. What we do is exactly what is done in the exchange process in another way. We have a porous plug at the bottom with a high lime slag on top of the metal. Using this method, we have very good agitation of metal and slag, and with a small flow of gas, we can achieve a very strong agitation. For instance, in the 500 lb ladle, we use only 5 liters of gas a minute. We have an agitation compared to very rapidly boiling water in a pail. Moreover, the agitation can be controlled to create any amount of mixing desired. In a few minutes, with this method, the sulphur dropped from 0.58 to 0.11. These results have been improved since, and we have obtained results like 0.08

The research described in the paper was aimed at providing standardized information of cases of failed and intact coal pillars in the form of databases to researchers. It also offered the opportunity to take stock of the pillar stability situation in coalmining and to review the impact of the application of the safety factor formula for pillar design. It was found that the physical parameters of coalmining have not changed substantially over the last four decades. However, changes in the controllable parameters like pillar width, pillar width-to-height ratio and percentage extraction have all moved toward the more conservative side. Scrutiny of the database indicates that of all the failures recorded, only 23 occurred in panels that were mined after 1969, when one can assume that the safety factor formula was fully applied. If the pre-1969 practices had been continued, at least 144 collapses would have been expected. There has thus been a substantial reduction of pillar collapse cases, justifying the cost paid for the formula, which has shown to be in the region of 600 million tons of coal. It is evident that that are distinct differences in the natures of the failures among different coalfields. This justifies the attempts to derive seam or coal field specific strength formulae and is a topic that should be pursued.

The explosibility of a dust is favored by its fineness and content of volatile combustible matter; its explosibility is decreased by its moisture and ash content. The explosibility of a dust can be reduced by admixture of either inert dust or water. The major effect of both the inert dust and water lies in their heat capacity; they absorb the heat of the explosion flame until the temperature of this flame drops below the ignition temperature of the explosive heat. The amount of inert dust necessary to make an explosive dust non-explosive can be calculated from its proximate analysis. FOREWORD LARGE-SCALE testing of the explosibility of coal dust as conducted by the Bureau of Mines in its Experimental Mine involves a large initial investment, and a high charge for maintenance and conduct of the test; in addition the work is necessarily slow because of the time required for the preparation of the tests and the cleaning and repairing of the mine after each test. These tests have been made along practical mining lines that admit of a range of mixtures of dust varying from 5 to 10 per cent. and with gas as low as 0.5 per cent. increments. Because of the time and expense involved, efforts have been made to devise a type of gallery for laboratory use in which the results obtained in the Experimental Mine may be correlated as an aid in a study of dusts, the explosibility of which might be approximately determined quickly and at a minimum of expense. The explosibility of coal dust has been studied by a number of European investors, using small laboratory devices; among these may be mentioned the experiments con¬ducted by Galloway, Vital, Hall and Clark, Abel, Mallard and Chatelier, Thorpe, Bedson and Widdas, Engler, Holwartz and Meyer, and Taffanel, results of whose experiments have been reviewed by the Bureau of Mines., The Bureau has conducted many tests with the Frazer-Clement2 apparatus, which gives the pressures set up when the dust cloud within is, ignited with a platinum coil or tube, heated to different temperatures, but for these tests the sample must be especially prepared as to size (200 mesh) and must be dry. Although a considerable amount of practical importance attaches to systems involving gases and molten metals, little is known regarding the effects of alloy elements upon the solubility of gases in liquid iron. The solubilities of hydrogen1 and nitrogen2,3 in pure liquid iron arc known and it has been shown that small amounts of silicon and aluminum3 exert only a small effect upon the solubility of nitrogen but greatly increase its rate of solution. This paper presents the results of a study of the solubility of nitrogen, at pressures approximately one atmosphere, in molten iron containing up to 15.8 per cent silicon. EXPEBIMENTAL METHOD There are two general methods by which the solubility of a gas in a molten metal may be determined. In the first, which Sievertsl employed, the gas is measured from a burette into the enclosure containing the metal and the amount absorbed is found by subtracting from the total volume that of the dead space in the container. The second method, which was used successfully for pure liquid iron, is to expose the molten metal to the gas until absorption ceases, then to solidify and analyze the metal. In either method the stirring produced by inductive heating prevents the development of a stagnant layer at the metal surface and ensures actual attainment of equilibrium. Obviously the second method is accurate only when the saturated metal is capable of solidifying without gas evolution. Since the rate of solution of nitrogen in iron is increased by the presence of silicon, it was to be expected that the rate of evolution would be correspondingly increased and for this reason the first method was selected. Although a considerable amount of practical importance attaches to systems involving gases and molten metals, little is known regarding the effects of alloy elements upon the solubility of gases in liquid iron. The solubilities of hydrogen1 and nitrogen2,3 in pure liquid iron arc known and it has been shown that small amounts of silicon and aluminum3 exert only a small effect upon the solubility of nitrogen but greatly increase its rate of solution. This paper presents the results of a study of the solubility of nitrogen, at pressures approximately one atmosphere, in molten iron containing up to 15.8 per cent silicon. EXPEBIMENTAL METHOD There are two general methods by which the solubility of a gas in a molten metal may be determined. In the first, which Sievertsl employed, the gas is measured from a burette into the enclosure containing the metal and the amount absorbed is found by subtracting from the total volume that of the dead space in the container. The second method, which was used successfully for pure liquid iron, is to expose the molten metal to the gas until absorption ceases, then to solidify and analyze the metal. In either method the stirring produced by inductive heating prevents the development of a stagnant layer at the metal surface and ensures actual attainment of equilibrium. Obviously the second method is accurate only when the saturated metal is capable of solidifying without gas evolution. Since the rate of solution of nitrogen in iron is increased by the presence of silicon, it was to be expected that the rate of evolution would be correspondingly increased and for this reason the first method was selected. "1. IntroductionThe Falconbridge Owl Creek open pit gold mine is located 17 km northeast of Timmins and 2.5 km west of the Kidd Creek metallurgical site. Diamond drilling first commenced in 1964 with open pit production commencing in 1982. Other operations within close proximity are the Canamax-Pamour Bell Creek Mine and the Falconbridge Hoyle Pond Mine.Since 1982, 1,216,000 tonnes assaying 4.5 g/t have been processed in six concentrators. This paper summarizes the metallurgy achieved with special emphasis on some of the unique problems encountered in the processing of this refractory ore.2. GeologyThe Owl Creek deposit, located 3 km north of the Porcupine-Destor fault is in easterly trending carbonaceously altered volcanic and sedimentary rocks. The deposit strikes east and dips steeply north.The ore body can be best described as a wedge shaped sandwich of volcanic basalt between the surrounding sedimentary greywacke. The north and south volcanic-sedimentary interfaces are marked by graphitic zones. The south graphitic contact is more continuous with its thickness varying from 5 m to 20 m as compared to 0.5 m to 3 m to the north. Quartz veins occur throughout the deposit with a predominant vein running along the south contact where it is characterized by numerous graphitic inclusions. Some veins carrying gold values intrude into the sediments in the north. With depth the sedimentary and volcanic zones taper while the quartz-graphitic zones appear to become more dominant."

Keywords: Tantalum capacitor, Scrap, Recovery, Titanium, Chlorination A recycling process for tantalum from capacitor scraps using an oxidation process followed by mechanical separation and chemical treatment was investigated. This study demonstrates that sintered tantalum electrodes inside the capacitor scraps can be mechanically collected after the oxidation of the scraps in air, and high-purity tantalum oxide powder (Ta2O5) was efficiently recovered after chemical treatment. By reducing the Ta2O5 obtained through magnesiothermic reduction, tantalum powder with 99 mass-% purity was obtained. Using the chlorination for tantalum recovery was also investigated, and the tantalum or tantalum compounds were reacted with chloride wastes such as FeClx. It was found that tantalum was effectively separated and purified when tantalum powder is reacted with FeClx at 1100 K under an argon atmosphere. This recycling process utilizing chloride scrap has now been extended to other reactive metals such as titanium.

SOME years ago we collated all laboratory data then available to us on the distribution at equilibrium of manganese and of sulphur between metal and simple slags, and used the results in setting up an equation, which proved to be in accord with determinations of the distribution ratio of manganese and of sulphur between liquid steel and open-hearth slag, over a wide range of operating conditions. We now present an outline of our calculations and inferences on these two closely related questions, which are of especial importance because of the advisability of conserving manganese wherever possible. In general, our results show that in the open-hearth furnace equilibrium between metal and slag, with respect to both manganese and sulphur, is substantially attained during the finishing period of the heat, or in about a half hour to an hour after any additions were made. This implies that the end result will be identical whether manganese is added as alloy or metal to the liquid steel or as oxide to the slag. The proportion of total manganese retained by the steel is favored: (I) by use of the minimum amount of lime, consistent with other operating limitations, required to give a lime-silica ratio of about 2.4, which usually corresponds to a minimum practical slag volume; (2) by a high concentration in the slag of MnO relative to FeO; (3) by high operating temperature. Absorption of sulphur by the slag from the liquid metal is favored: (I) by large slag volume; (2 by a high concentration of active (or "free") lime and of manganese oxide dis) solved in the slag; (3) by low concentration of silica, iron oxide, and phosphate dissolved in the slag. DISTRIBUTION OF MANGANESE BETWEEN SLAG AND METAL AT EQUILIBRIUM On the basis that the distribution of manganese between liquid steel and slag is controlled by the reaction [FeO + Mn = MnO + Fe [A]slag metal slag metal] the distribution at equilibrium, at a given temperature, is expressed by the equilibrium constant for this reaction, which is defined as [K" aMoO aFeI1 dFec) aMn] where a is the activity of the molecular species denoted by the subscript. The activity of each of the several components, although it is not known precisely, is approximately equal to the concentration of each component expressed as its mol fraction; that is, as the ratio of the number of mols of the given component to the total number of mols of all the molecular species present in the metal or slag, as the case may be. In sampling a process stream, conventional sampling theory deals only with the variation of the analyte content and neglects the impact of the variation in the mass flow on the sampling variance, whether the sampling regime is time-based or mass-based. This is an obvious simplification of the real state of affairs and it is worthwhile to study this impact via simulation.With a facility to simulate large (long) random functions having some thousands of points in the function and the ability to impose covariance functions on the mass flow and analyte variations, such a study is possible. It is also possible to evaluate the impact of correlation between analyte content and mass flows.This paper describes a limited study of the variance increase due to mass flow fluctuations over the usual sampling variance due to analyte variation during the sampling period. The bias in the sampling result is determined for specific modes of correlation. Simulation methods are used as they are the only means by which a sampling result can be compared to the true assay for the lot; in the physical circumstances of mineral process analysis, it is never possible to determine the true process stream assay.CITATION:Lyman, G J, 2017.
