This paper covers some problems of treatment of complex gold ores and concentrates containing copper, lead, zinc, antimony and uranium. All these metals may present in ores both as major and associated components. The paper suggests recommendations for early determination of relative value of the metals in ores, which largely contribute to the selection of concentration and metallurgical flow sheets. The focus of this work is on treatment of complex ores in gold plants. The metal extraction technologies used by such gold plants are typically aimed at maximum gold recovery. Therefore, production of base metals as by-products requires significant updating of the existing process flow sheets based on economic, environmental and other considerations. At the same time, cooperation between gold plants and base-metal plants is of great importance. This paper provides an overview of worldwide existing and innovative processes of base metals extraction from complex and refractory gold ores.

Sishen Iron Ore Mine is situated 280 km north-west of Kimberley in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The mine produces and sells high quality iron ore of various specifications to various national and international clients. The saleable product is derived from the blending and beneficiation of different types and qualities of hematite iron ore. This paper documents the new developments which were implemented (or are in the process of being implemented) on the mine in the long-term planning, medium-term planning, grade control and material tracking in the beneficiation plant with special attention being paid to the quality of the final, saleable product. The process starts with the long-term planning where the pit shell and pit optimization is determined by Whittle 4X. New developments include the introduction of a linear programming based scheduling system to enhance the long-term schedule generated by Whittle 4X. The LP route was decided on in order to take into account all the constraining factors of the final product that could not be configured in Whittle. To complement this the XPAC Auto Scheduler scheduling package was introduced to do the medium-term mine scheduling. This 18-month rolling plan includes cost parameters to enable the planner to extract a detailed operational budget from the scheduling while ensuring that production standards are maintained and grade constraints are met. The existing grade control system was enhanced with GPS capabilities and a computer system to do material tracking. The high precision GPS system introduced on the shovels allows for the accurate control of the loading procedures at the mining face. Because of the complicated geology and grade composition of blasting blocks it is imperative to accurately differentiate between different materials in the same blasting block and being able to excavate that with the loading equipment. The GPS system on the trucks allows for accurate location monitoring of dumping in order to keep track of specific material types. The state-of-the-art material tracking system developed for Sishen will enable the grade control officer to keep track and record various parameters of the material from its in situ position in the blasting blocks, through the crusher and onto different stockpiles, in various stages of the beneficiation process and onto the blending beds, into the dispatching trains and eventually into the ships for international distribution. These developments elevate the Sishen planning and grade control systems to a new level of service excellence from which management can obtain accurate and timely information on product status. It also enables Sishen to maximize resource utilization while still complying with the tough market constraints.

Uranium exploration was commenced in 1973 and carried out at a regional scale over a wide area of the northern part of the Camarvon Basin of Western Australia by Minatome Australia Pty Limited and their joint-venture partners. As a result, pervasive uranium mineralization has been found in the Cretaceous sandstones near Manyingee Hills in the Onslow Region, which were probably deposited in a near-shore, fluvia deltaic palaeo-environment.Mineralization is generally found in poorly sorted argillaceous sandstones and siltstones near redox fronts formed by oxidizing waters circulating in reduced sediments. The principal minerals found in the two Manyingee deposits delineated so far are coffinite, uraninite with associated pyrite in the reduced zones, and phosphuranylite, siderite and limonite in the oxidized zones. The presence of dissolved uranium in the superficial aquifers, of secondary uranium minerals as coatings on granitic rocks, and of recent uranium-bearing calcrete sediments, suggest that the whole Cretaceous-Precambrian system has been subjected to the formation ofroll-front type uranium deposits since the Cretaceous. Continuing exploration is locating additional uranium occurrences. The deposits outlined so far are being evaluated for their amenability to in situ leaching tests planned for 1982-1983.

REVIEWING the events of the year in mineral industry education, a certain amount of either amusement or irritation, depending upon one's viewpoint, can be derived front the section dealing with mining engineering in Walter B. Pitkin's "New Careers for Youth" which appeared during the summer. On p. 102 Prof. Pitkin says "The mining engineer is disappearing .. . because . . . the profits of mining decline rapidly with the age of the mine." In his "Are Too Many Students Taking Mining Courses?" published in the May issue of this journal, W. B. Plank presents statistics showing that there was some decline in student enrollment in mining and metallurgical courses in 1932-3 and 1933-4, compared with 1930-31, but that the decline was proportionate to that in all lines of engineering study combined. Informal reports from Institute officials that have visited tinning schools during the fall indicate that nearly all schools showed an increase in enrollment for the current school year. Pre else statistics will be made available by Prof. Plank at the Annual Meeting. His study last year provided, for the first time, accurate and complete information on the enrollment in mining schools, as well as the number of various courses and the degree granted, and it will be interesting to have comparable figures for this year. Prof. Pitkin's views on the future opportunities for mining engineers were discussed at some length - on pages 439-4.40 of the November issue of MINING AND METALLURGY.

Strategic Ca-bearing minerals like scheelite and fluorite are usually separated by flotation, yet the separation is quite difficult due to their similar surface Ca active sites. Compared with the conventional strong collector sodium oleate (NaOL), lead nitrate-benzohydroxamic acid (Pb-BHA), complex collector shows a better selectivity for scheelite, yet its high cost hinders its wide application. Therefore, a novel collector (Pb-BHA-NaOL complex) was initially developed in this work to overcome the abovementioned dilemma. The flotation results of a single mineral showed that Pb-BHA-NaOL had a better selectivity for scheelite than Pb-BHA. Under the conditions of sequential assembly of Pb, BHA and NaOL at the molar ratio of 240:120:1 and pH 9.0, selective separation of scheelite from fluorite could be achieved without adding any depressants. In addition, for the same preferred scheelite recovery, Pb- BHA-NaOL could also save approximately 20% Pb and BHA compared with Pb-BHA. The analyses of the zeta potential measurement and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy indicated that Pb-BHA-NaOL showed stronger adsorption on scheelite relative to fluorite. Meanwhile, Pb-BHA-NaOL showed more adsorption modes and higher utilisation of Pb and BHA on scheelite than Pb-BHA, which was due to the accelerator, NaOL. This paper presents an evaluation of surface resistivity techniques as a tool for delineating salt-water intrusion in Shippegan, N.B. The study consisted of resistivity profiling, resistivity soundings and a limited number of induced polarization soundings in selected areas in the Province of New Brunwick. The results from resistivity profiling indicate that when seawater intrusion occurs in a sandstone formation the resistivity contrast is sufficiently large to allow a precise delineation of the intrusion. A formula is then derived to convert resistivity values to chloride concentration in the "cone of intrusion". The results from resistivity soundings showed that shaly formations may have resistivities as low as seawater-contaminated sandstone. An indeterminacy has resulted from this resistivity overlap. A limited number of IP soundings were performed in an effort to resolve it. The results showed that IP can be of appreciable help in resistivity interpretation.

The wzodel of Blandin and Diplunt;, generalized to include a phase factor, is applied to the carbon-carbon interaction in iron. Darken&apos;s "energetic" model is generalized to include not only first neighbor interactions but further neighbor interactions as well. On the bases of these generalized models relations are derived for the activity of carbon in both austenite and ferrite in terms of the carbon-carbon Pair interaction energies. A single function then yields the pair interaction energies consistent with the experimental activities of carbon in both ferrite and austenite. Thus, a simple explanation is given for the observation that the nearest-neighbor interaction between carbon is repulsive in austenite and attractive in ferrite. Certain consequences of this approach are explored. OnE object of the present paper is to attempt to take into account the consequences of electrostatic contributions to the carbon-carbon pair interaction energy for carbon as a solute in iron. Friedel&apos; has shown that oscillations in electrostatic potential are to be expected about a solute atom in a metallic solution. Blandin and 6lant6&apos; have shown that such oscillations yield an interaction energy between pairs of solute atoms that obeys the relation: W{ = A cos(2ftFri + 4>)/(kFri)3 [l] where kF = Fermi wave vector, ri = distance between solute atoms comprising the pair7 <p = phase factor dependent only on electronic nature of solute and solvent, A = coefficient dependent only on electronic nature of solute and solvent. Machlin3 found that Eq. [I] accurately described the pair interaction energy derived from short-range order measurements based on field ion microscope observations of dilute alloys of platinum. He also found that the value of the phase factor $ derived from residual resistivity measurements agreed well with that obtained from the analysis of the short-range order data. Harrison and paskin4 were able to predict the long-range ordering energy of 0 brass using Relation [I] and residual resistivity values to predict the value of the phase factor $. Machlin5 has repeated their analysis and applied it to the prediction of the long-range ordering energy in AgZn and AgCd with excellent agreement between prediction and experiment. Both A and $ are independent of the crystal structure. The Fermi wave vector depends uniquely upon the conduction electron concentration per unit volume in the spherical approximation of the Fermi surface. Thus, Eq. [I] is expected to apply to both fer- rite and austenite with only one set of values of A and $. Mossbauer studies6 yield the result that iron has one 4s electron. We shall make an assumption found to hold previously for platinum3&apos;7 and nikel, which is that only the s electrons are involved in shielding the perturbing potential of carbon. With this assumption, kF = 1.35 A-l. Although A and $ may be obtained from certain mdels&apos;&apos;&apos; we shall take A and $ to be empirical constants in the spirit of Kohn and osko.&apos; Thus, Eq. [I] involves two adjustible parameters. Consequently, two independent relations in A and $I are required in order to evaluate them for carbon as a solute in iron. We may use a recent analysis of Aaronson, Domain, and poundg who showed that Darken&apos;s energetic model,1° as well as others, can be used to describe the activity-temperature data for carbon in iron in both the aus-tenitic and ferritic phases. Darken&apos;s model takes into account only first neighbor pair interactions. For our needs, all neighbor pairs need to be taken into account. It is convenient to generalize Darken&apos;s model. The result for the partition function for austenite is: over the temperature range 800" to 1200°C and where the uncertainty corresponds to one standard deviation. Eq. [4] effectively yields only one relation. Another relation is required to obtain unique values for A and $. One property of Eq. [4] is that it is independent of crystal structure. Hence, data for a iron can be used to obtain another relation. To arrive at this relation we must generalize Eqs. [2] and [3] so that they may be applied to the bcc a iron. The result is that:

OCCURRENCES of salt in Alberta have been mentioned and described by the writer in 1929 (l) and by Cole in 1930 (2). Brine springs occur at a number of places along the valley of Athabaska river north of latitude 56 degrees, and also on the south margin of Salt prairie, twenty-five miles west of Fitzgerald in the vicinity of the 60th parallel of latitude, which is the boundary between Alberta and the Northwest Territories. These salt springs were visited by Sir James Richardson in 1820, and in the same year D. W. Harmon stated that " ... clown Salt river there are several places where almost any quantity of excellent dean white salt may be taken with as much ease as sand along the seashore" (3). One hundred years later, in 1920, when the writer first visited these springs, the "dean white salt" which had accumulated about the springs was about 400 tons ( 4). This paper deals with a thick deposit of rock-salt which has been proved by drilling in the vicinity of McMurray. Particular attention will be given to a well drilled at Waterways early in 1936 by Industrial Minerals, Limited, when a continuous bed of rock-salt was penetrated with a thickness of 199 feet. As this paper is being presented, a salt plant is being completed and a production well is being drilled at the plant. < is salt deposit is in the vicinity of McMurray, close to the junction of the Clearwater and Athabaska rivets, in township 89, range 9, west of the 4th meridian. McMurray is about 240 miles northeast from Edmonton. As shown on Figure 1, Clearwater river, which rises at Methy portage, in Saskatchewan, enters Athabaska river at McMurray. Some three miles above the mouth of Clearwater river, the Hangingstone enters from the southwest. Waterways, where the latest salt development has taken place, is situated at the end of the Northern Alberta railway, a distance of 304 miles from Edmonton. This railway reaches the bottom of the Clearwater valley at Draper station, about 3 miles east of Waterways and near the mouth of Deep creek. The Draper bituminous sand plant is approximately half a mile east of Draper station. About one mile south of the townsite of McMurray, Horse river enters the Athabaska from the east.

THIS report is the first of a series planned by The Mineral Inquiry, organized by the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers to make factual studies of the world&apos;s mineral resources in their political and international relations. The efforts of The Inquiry are directed toward filling certain notable gaps in available information, without duplication of many other investigations touching this field which are being conducted by other organizations, public and private. Much of its work is indirect-suggesting topics for study by other individuals and organizations and aiding in their planning and correlation. The present report is designed to show the nationality of the commercial control of mineral resources, in addition to the geographic distribution of production by nation-in other words, the overlapping of political and commercial control. Detailed accuracy cannot be claimed for the figures presented. For some companies division of ownership by nationality has been very difficult to ascertain, as many companies are reluctant to dis-close the extent of their holdings in other corporations, and the impossi-bility of tracing all stock ownership is obvious. Also there are frequent changes in the distribution of stock control. The percentages given rep¬resent only the participation that has been identified definitely, even though it is known in some cases with fair certainty that larger interests exist, as, for instance, American participation in foreign chromite companies. In bringing together these figures we have had the cordial co-operation of the United States Bureau of Mines, the United States Geological Survey, the Mineral Division of the Bureau of Foreign and Domestic Commerce, the Brookings Institution, and of many specialists connected with the mineral industries covered. The report does not cover the entire list of minerals. Coal, although it is, one of the most important minerals, was omitted because not more than one or two per cent of the world&apos;s production comes from mines that are owned by companies foreign to the countries where the coal is produced. Others, such as gold, are omitted because sufficient data have not yet been accumulated. It is hoped that some of these may be covered in subsequent reports. It is not our purpose here to discuss the significance of the figures sub-mitted, but only to point out the general nature of the problems on which they have a bearing.

This Bureau of Mines report has been prepared to provide a means whereby mineworkers without specific geologic training can recognize and record the existence of potentially hazardous geologic features encountered in coal mines. Each geologic feature described in this report has been implicated in roof failure. Through the recording of the observations of mineworkers, based on this report, a geologic map of mine workings and the associated ground control problems can be compiled. From such maps, the trends of changes and features can be determined and projected ahead of mining. The face crew can be alerted to a potential problem and what to look for as the face is advanced.

The U.S. Bureau of Mines evaluated the dust control effectiveness of two-phase flow systems in a full-scale model mine using a mockup of a Joy 14CM continuous mining machine. In a two-phase flow system, air and water flow simultaneously through the nozzle. Air pressure varies from 10 to 60 psi, and water at 30 to 50 psi. Coal dust was introduced at the face, and dust concentrations were monitored at the operator locations and in the return. When compared with a conventional spray system, a symmetrical two-phase flow system reduced dust levels during the box cut by 43 pct at the operator location, and 30 pct in the face return. Dust levels, however, increased at the off-operator position during the slab cut. A directional two-phase flow system reduced dust levels at both operator locations by more than 90 pct in the box cut mode. While the use of two-phase flow systems will reduce respirable dust levels and water usage, it requires an air supply to the miner. Moreover, the ability of the two-phase flow system to redirect the dust cloud makes nozzle orientation a critical factor.

The effect of kolanut (KN) filler and compatibilizer (maleic anhydride) contents on the transport of toluene through low density polyethylene (LDPE) and low density polyethylene composite were studied at the temperatures 40, 60 and 80 °C.The kolanut powder used was ground to 25 μm particle size. In preparation of composite 0–5 wt% of kolanut powder and 0–2.5 wt% of the compatibilizer were mixed with 200 g of low density polyethylene in an injection moulding machine. The injected polyethylene and polyethylene/kolanut composites (LDPE/KN) were taken for sorption test. The sorption data obtained for low density polyethylene and kolanut powder filled low density polyethylene at the different temperature investigated were expressed as the molar percentage uptake (% Qt) of toluene per gram of the kola nut composites. Results show that the uptake of toluene at the five filler content (0–5 wt%) generally increased with increase in sorption temperature but decreased with increase in compatibilizer and filler contents. This can be seen at 80 °C and 0, 1, 1.5 and 2.5 wt% of compatibilizer respectively. The molar percentage uptake of toluene at 1 wt% of filler yielded the following values; 8.6789, 8.4768, 8.3476 and 8.2679 respectively. At 2 wt% it yielded 8.6224, 8.1333, 7.9525 and 7.9042 respectively, at 3 wt% it gave 8.4336, 7.9450,7.8900 and 7.7823 respectively, at 4 wt% it yielded 8.0263,7.9614,7.8218 and 7.6800 respectively and at 5 wt% it gave 7.9635, 7.8630, 7.6256 and 7.5013 respectively.

Internal friction measurements were used to determine the effect of manganese on the solubility and precipitation kinetics of nitrogen. Manganese, in concentrations up to 0.75 pct, has little effect on the solubility at temperatures above 250°C. On the other hand, at Concentrations as low as 0.15 pct, manganese inhibits the formation of iron nitrides, especially Fe4N, even though it may not form a precipitnte itself. The precipitation and solubility of carbides and nitrides have been extensively investigated in the pure Fe-C and Fe-N systems.1-3 In recent years, some effort has been ispent in studying the influence of substitutional alloying elements on the behavior of carbon and nitrogen in ferrite.4 -7 In particular Fast, Dijkstra, and Sladek have investigated the effect of 0.5 pct Mn on the internal friction and hardness during the quench aging of Fe-Mn-N alloys.&apos;, &apos; They found that at low temperatures (below 200°C) the presence of 0.5 pct Mn greatly retarded quench aging. For example, after 66 hr at 200°C very little precipitation had taken place in the iron alloyed with manganese, whereas precipitation was complete after a few minutes in a pure Fe-N alloy. The effect of varying the manganese content and the details of the precipitation process were not mentioned in these papers. Fast&apos; postulated that manganese causes a local lowering of the free energy of the lattice with a resulting segregation of nitrogen atoms to these low energy sites. The segregated nitrogen atoms are bound so tightly to the manganese atoms that they cannot form a precipitate. The internal friction measurements of Dijkstra and Sladek tended to confirm the concept of segregation of nitrogen around manganese atoms, and the increase in free energy on transferring a mole of nitrogen atoms from a segregated to a "normal" lattice site was computed to be - 2800 cal. Dijkstra and Sladek9 distinguished between two types of precipitates: ortho, a nitride of appreciably different manganese content than that of the matrix, and para, a nitride with a manganese content essentially that of the matrix. With each type of precipitate a solubility, again designated ortho or para, can be associated. Since the internal friction maximum in alloys which were aged several hours at 600" C dropped almost to zero, Dijkstra and Sladek9 concluded that the ortho solubility must be very low. The effect of temperature on the ortho and para solubilities has no1: been investigated. There are obviously several gaps in our knowledge concerning the influence of manganese on the behavior of nitrogen in a-iron. It was the purpose of the experiments described in this paper to determine the following: 1) The ortho and para solubilities of nitrogen as a function of temperature. 2) The details of the precipitation process at elevated temperatures. 3) The effect of varying the manganese concentration on the above phenomena. EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE Internal friction is conveniently employed in studying the precipitation of nitrides and/or carbides from a -iron because it is one of the few parameters, perhaps the only one, which is not affected by the presence of the precipitate itself. For this reason, internal friction techniques were heavily relied upon in the present experiment. A) Preparat of -. All specimens were prepared from electrolytic iron and electrolytic manganese. Alloys containing 0.15, 0.33, 0.65, and 0.75 wt pct Mn were vacuum melted and cast into 25 lb ingots. After being hot rolled to 3/4 in. bars, the ingots were swaged and drawn to 0.030 in. wires. The wires wen? decarburized and denitrided by annealing at 750° C for 17 hr in flowing hydrogen saturated with warer vapor. To obtain a medium grain size, - 0.1 mm, the wires were then heated to 945oC, allowed to soak for 1 hr, furnace cooled to 750°C, and water quenched. Subsequent internal friction measurements showed that this procedure reduced the nitrogen and carbon concentrations of the alloys to less than 0.001 wt pct. The wires were nitrided by sealing them in pyrex capsules containing anhydrous ammonia and annealing them for 24 hr at 580°C, the nitrogen being retained in solid solution by quenching the capsule into water. Immediately after quenching, the wires were stored in liquid nitrogen to prevent any precipitation of nitrides. By varying the pressure of ammonia in the capsule, it was possible to produce any desired nitrogen concentration. B) Internal Friction. "Coal mine dust research throughout the world has been stimulated by the recognition of its importance in the development of coal miners' diseases, particularly coal workers' pneumoconiosis (CWP). A historical look at the problem and the present state of knowledge in this area of importance to the worldwide coal industry is presented. A summary of progress made in this area is provided and some research ideas for the future are discussed.1. INTRODUCTIONI thank Dr. Yong Won John, President of the Korean Institute of Mineral and Mining Engineers, for his invitation to address the International Symposium on Coal Mining and Safety. This presents me with an interesting opportunity to take a broad look at the research in coal mine dust and where we are going. From this broad perspective, we can all view the progress and problems that are apparent in the present state of knowledge of coal mine dust. One important element in the review of coal mine dust research and its role in miners' diseases is that of its history. The existence of diseases attributed to the mine atmosphere is often traced back to Pliny the younger in the first century A.D. His work on natural history mentioned observed human effects attributed to mine fumes and vapors. However, the subject of the effects of dust in the mine was not mentioned in published literature until 1556 when Agricola discussed the ailments of miners in his day (Seaton 1975).For many centuries, many medical ailments of the lungs were often categorized together and distinct diseases were often not recognized until more modern times. The ability to distinguish different lung diseases was limited until the discovery of X-rays in 1986. Nonetheless, Zenker in 1866 applied the term pneumonokoniosis to any disease where dust gathers in the lymphatic depots of the lungs. This term was changed to pneumoconiosis in 1932. While pneumoconiosis was defined in the 1800s, scant attention was paid to control of miners' diseases until recent decades. The first attempt to control disease through control of the mine atmosphere has been attributed to the South Africans who instituted a silica control in 1910 (Drinker and Hatch 1954)."

This paper develops a series of three-dimensional simulations for the Bayou Choctaw Strategic Petroleum Reserve. The U.S. Department of Energy plans to leach two new caverns and convert of one of the existing caverns within the Bayou Choctaw salt dome to expand its petroleum reserve storage capacity. An existing finite element mesh from previous analyses is modified by adding two caverns and increasing the size of existing Cavern 102. The structural integrity of the three expansion caverns and the interaction between all the caverns in the dome are investigated. The impacts of the expansion on underground creep closure, surface subsidence, infrastructure stability, and well integrity are quantified. The results show that from a structural viewpoint, the locations of the two newly proposed expansion caverns are acceptable, and all three expansion caverns can be safely constructed and operated.

"Hydrometallurgical recovery of metals from printed circuit board waste typically involves multiple leaching stages; conventionally, base metals dissolution by mineral acids is followed by leaching of gold using cyanide or halide based lixiviants. Alternative lixiviants for gold leaching can reduce the potential hazardous nature of operation. The aim of this study was to investigate the feasibility of using thiosulfate as lixiviant for gold leaching from waste printed circuit boards. Batch leaching tests were performed to investigate the effects of thiosulfate concentration (0.1 – 0.2 M), ammonium concentration (0.2 – 0.4 M), pH (9 – 10.5), solids content (25 – 50 g/L), and copper content of the feed material on the gold leaching behavior. The concentrations of metals in liquid samples were determined by means of inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectroscopy, and high pressure liquid chromatography was used to evaluate thiosulfate degradation/consumption. The ratio of thiosulfate to ammonia was found to have the most significant effect on the extent of gold leaching, with the best gold extraction observed at a ratio of 0.5 mole thiosulfate per mole ammonia. The lower pH range of 9 – 9.5 generally produced better Au leaching, while low copper extraction during the first stage base metal leaching stages has proven to be detrimental to gold leaching from the residue. Thiosulfate degradation/consumption increased and gold extraction decreased with higher residual copper in the feed. An optimum gold extraction of 78.5 % from base metal leach residue was achieved with 0.2 M thiosulfate, 0.4 M ammonia, and 0.02 M cupric ions at 25°C in the pH range 9 – 9.5.INTRODUCTION Background and Aim The recycling of e-waste is becoming increasingly important as it provides certain economic benefits apart from the obvious environmental benefits. The Zhilingtou Au-Ag deposit is situated in the eastern part of the complexly deformed and metamorphosed South China Caledonian Fold Belt. It consists of seven orebodies that are almost exclusively hosted by biotite plagioclase gneiss of the Precambrian Chencai Group. They form an apparent en echelon pattern in both cross-section and level plan. Three different ore types, based on mineralization textures, have been recognised within the Zhilingtou lode. These are Au-Ag-rich quartz veins, Au and Ag-bearing silicified rocks and Au-Ag-containing altered rocks with quartz stockworks. The mineralisation is principally composed of electrum, argentite, pyrite and minor sphalerite, galena as well as traces of hessite and chalcopyrite plus a gangue assemblage of quartz, rhodonite, sericite and chlorite. Fluid inclusions related to Au-Ag mineralisation yield a wide range of homogenisation temperatures from 110 to 447¦C, with two distinctive peak values at 250 - 300¦C and 350 - 400¦C respectively. d30Si values of quartz veins and silicification from the three stages of mineralisation range from -0.1 to -0.4ë. The mineralisation at Zhilingtou is interpreted as forming by recirculated meteoric water extracting ore-forming elements from metamorphic rocks due to Mesozoic volcano-magmatic activity.

The Augusta underground mine at Costerfield in Central Victoria has been in operation since mid 2006; however, AGD Operations Pty Ltd have explored and undertaken open pit operations in the area for over 20 years. The high-grade, narrow gold-antimony orebody is being mined using both mechanised and hand-held methods, to produce up to 70 000 tonnes per annum at ten grams per tonne gold and six per cent stibnite. AGD Operations Pty Ltd processes the ore on site using gravity and flotation to produce two products; a concentrate which is sold to Chinese smelters and a gravity concentrate which is refined off-site. The circuit achieves up to 30 per cent recovery of gold from gravity methods. There are many challenges in the underground mine, including an orebody with an average width of 300 mm, very poor rock mass conditions in the host rock and variable dips in the ore along strike, between 45¦ and 90¦. The upper levels of the mine have been developed ready for stoping; however, their depths range from 20 m to 70 m below surface in both oxide and transitional material. A major fault structure consisting of mud has been encountered underground and is associated with the orebody causing very poor ground conditions, water inflow and requiring additional reinforcement. The northern limit of the mine is defined by the proximity of historical workings in the South Costerfield mine, which is being continuously dewatered.

The mining industry has recently been. - experiencing a difficult period. Escalating costs, lower grades and deeper level mining, are a few of .the reasons&apos; why interactive graphics or CADD (computer aided design and draughting) systems are increasingly being used. CADD systems which support powerful and flexible mining applications have great potential for making all forms of mining more efficient and effective. There are many application programs which address almost every aspect of mining. Most of these programs originated to satisfy a particular need. Graphics and other features were added until they, reached a point where they were commercially viable as a mining package. Because of their evolution these packages, lack many CADD-type features. Today there are powerful personal computers (PC&apos;s) and engineering workstations running the best CADD systems available. These systems, support hundreds of applications in almost every discipline. Mining was until recently not well supported by interactive graphics vendors because of the highly variable nature of mining and the lack of common standards. Users of CADD systems have experienced the benefits of CADD and come to expect similar features from graphic mining packages. Several developers of mining packagers have either attempted to include some CADD features or make their packages compatible with one or other CADD system. Mining can benefit greatly From a combination of interactive graphics (or CADD) and the right mining application software.

"INTRODUCTION Contrary to popular belief, Arizona State Trust land is not public land. All uses of the land must benefit the Trust, a fact that is considered with the review of each application received for sale, lease, or permit. This includes applications for activities ranging from commercial development to recreation. In 1863, the Territory of Arizona was established by an act of Congress. This act reserved sections 16 and 36 in each township to be held in trust for the benefit of the common schools. Later, the Enabling Act of 1910 allowed the Territory of Arizona to prepare for statehood. This act reserved the additional sections 2 and 32 of each township for the common schools and granted another 2,350,000 acres to be held in trust for other beneficiaries. In all, Congress granted the State of Arizona almost 11 million acres. The State was to manage those lands and maximize revenue for 13 separate beneficiaries. To meet this mandate, the State established the Arizona State Land Department (ASLD) in 1915. During fiscal year 2015, the ASLD contributed $136 million to the permanent fund, bringing the total value to over $5.1 billion, through the sale and leasing of the land and natural products which includes minerals. The current inventory of State Trust lands includes 9.2 million acres representing about 12.7% of the State.The ASLD Minerals Section manages the exploration, development, and leasing of mineral products on State Trust land. We are not a regulatory agency, but a department guided by our fiduciary responsibilities to the Trust. Our mineral programs include: Exploration Permits, Mineral Leases, Mineral Material Leases, Geothermal Leases, Oil & Gas Leases, and Special Land Use Permits. INDUSTRIAL MINERALS ON ARIZONA STATE TRUST LAND Industrial minerals fall under the category of either Mineral or Mineral Materials Leases. Common industrial minerals found on Arizona State Trust land include potash, limestone, gypsum, salt, specialty clays, zeolites, crushed stone, and sand and gravel."
